Essay on Viking Activity in the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth...
Viking Activity in the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Centuries The pagans from the northern regions
came with a naval force to Britain like stinging hornets and … robbed, tore and slaughtered … even
priests and deacons, and companies of monks and nuns
Originating from the sparsely populated, barren and virtually resourceless land of the Scandinavian
peninsulas, the Vikings set out, in the late 8th century to capture the wealth and resources of their
trading partners. Throughout the 8th, 9th and 10th centuries the Northmen brutally killed and ...

Each Viking race, striving to capture the perceived wealth and fertile lands of their European trading
partners, so different to the barren and resourceless peninsulas of Scandinavia, efficiently moved
throughout areas of Europe, violently conquering as they travelled. The Norwegians moved
towards Western Europe, invading countries such as Scotland, Ireland, Greenland, Iceland and
Newfoundland. The Danish invaded to the South, conquering areas such as the Frankish empire,
Seville and Southern Gaul. The Swedish raiders moved towards the East, invading parts of Russia,
Constantinople, Baghdad, and it is suggested moved even as far as Western China. (David M.
Wilson, The Vikings and Their Origins (New York: A W Publishers inc. 1980), 65 71) United by a
common Language, the Scandinavian people are portrayed by history as little more than violent
thieves, who used force to invade Europe, and terrorised the continent for well over a century.
The Viking attacks throughout Europe were perhaps best characterised by two things: the inhumane
violence and savagery of the attacks, and also the swiftness, stealth and incredible mobility of the
people. Many records of Viking attacks create

The Grapes Of Wrath Character Dynamic
Characters mutate more and more as the novel progresses, which makes the character dynamic. The
change that a character undergoes works to impact the overall theme of the novel. Over the course
of John Steinbeck s novel, The Grapes of Wrath, one of the characters, ma Joad has drastically
developed. She changes into a more nourishing and optimistic character.
For example, Ma Joad was initially skeptical about the idea of her family taking the journey to
California in hopes of fulfilling their American dream . At the beginning of the novel Ma says... I m
scared of stuff so nice. I ain t got faith. I m scared somepin ain t so nice about it (p.123). She
believes that the journey to california will be a waste of time, money and will not be worth leaving
everything behind. But, as the novel progresses Ma Joad s idea towards the journey gradually
changes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In doing so she ultimately is seen as the backbone and protector of the Joad family. While Ma was
in the family tent a cop came up to her and tried to keep the Joad family from settling in California
because they were Okies . The term Okie mean you was from Oklahoma. Now it means you re a
dirty son of a bitch...scum (p.280). Well, you ain t in you country now. You re in California, an
we don t want you goddamn Okies settlin down (p.291). That comment offended Ma and her
family s hopes of creating a better life for themselves in california. As a result, Ma replies If you re
here when i come tomorra, I ll run you in (p.292). At the start of the novel Ma essentially would not
have acted this way due to the fact that she was skeptical about the
Parable Of The Prodigal Son Analysis
Going to great lengths to recover what was lost and then celebrating its recovery seems to be the
common theme of several of the parables. The parable of the prodigal son has three main
characters, the kind and forgiving father who remains the same throughout the parable is a picture
of God and Jesus. The younger son symbolizes sinners and the older brother bring the religious
leaders and the Pharisees. It started off focusing the younger son who got the share of the property.
The younger son insults his father with this request (Carson, NIV Zondervan Study Bible, 2109)
because in Jewish writing explicitly discourage discussing inheritance before the person s death. The

The other half focuses on the older brother s angry reaction to the celebration of the younger son
coming back, which parallels that of the attitude of the religious leaders and Pharisees towards the
tax collector and sinners. They outwardly they lived blameless lives, but inwardly their attitudes
were rotten (Matthew 23:25) Although, it is true that the older son worked hard, obeyed his
father, and brought no disgrace to his family; his attitude towards his brother was out of rage and
disgust. Even refuse to acknowledge the younger son as his brother. The older son focuses on the
outward actions, but not inward attitude. He was to focus on himself and equality, that he fails to
recognize his brother repentance. This passage probably refers to 1 john 2: 9 11. Later the father
pointed out he has always been available to ask but never utilized the blessing at his disposal.
In the parable of the lost sheep and the lost coin, is related to the parable Prodigal Son in the sense
of when the sheep is brought back, the coin is found there will be a celebration, but there would also
be more joy over the repentant sinner than the ninety nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
(v. 15:7), like the prodigal son parable.
The underlying theme in all of them is about how we are dependent to God and although God doesn t
need us, He still goes through great
Interactions Between Fungi And DC
Interactions between Fungi and DC: How DC can be used to develop vaccines? Like mentioned
previously, DC initiates activation of different types of cells based on type of molecules/antigens at
site of infection. Hence different forms of fungi initiate different mechanisms of immunity. When
DC pulsed with fungus are introduced into mice, they can initiate specific immune response
against that antigen by activating CD4+ Th cells. The analysis of antigen specific proliferation and
cytokine production from CD4+ Th cells was done. These cells were collected from draining from
lymph nodes and spleens of mice, in which fungus pulsed DCs were introduced. Results showed in
mice immunized with conidia or yeast pulsed DCs, levels of IFN ᵞ were higher... Show more content

DCs pulsed with inactive yeast cells were not able to induce maturation of DC in vitro and hence
these cells were unable to develop Th1 response in vivo. Because of this, memory cells
responsible for anticandidal protective immunity cannot be developed. Not only yeast or hyphae
of fungus, but fungal RNA too was able to develop such protective immune response in vivo. In
this case, fungal RNA from yeast or conidia could do so, but not from hyphae. DCs pulsed with
fungal RNA from yeast (Candida) or conidia (Aspergillus) could develop resistance for infections
for respective species only. One more species of fungus showed similar results for developing
resistance against infection. DCs pulsed with Cryptococcus neoformans RNA could develop
resistance for pulmonary cryptococcosis in murine model. Th1 cells producing IFN ᵞ were
increased and cells producing IL 4 were decreased in numbers in mice showing resistance to the
disease [Fig (4)]. This indicates that the antifungal resistance is Th1 dependent. This suggests DCs
can be a potential target for developing vaccines against fungal infections. Conclusion and future
prospective: As it is well known that DCs play important role in developing immune response, they
can used as a potential target for vaccine development. More species of fungal pathogens
Louisiana Wetlands Research Paper
A wetland is an area of land that retains it water on it surface as in swamps, marshes, and bogs.
Although we would prefer to keep the wetlands they are being destroyed very rapidly. Louisiana
loses about 25 35 square miles of wetlands each year. By 2050 it s estimated that the annual loss of
fishing income due to coastal wetlanderosion will be around $550 million dollars of revenue. The
wetlands are valuable in many ways. They provide fish for commercial fishing and eating. The
wetlands also act as a sponge for floodwater during storms and heavy rains. Also retaining its
water during dry spells as a flash flood preventer. When it comes to the culture of Louisiana, the
wetlands play a very large role in it, mainly in seafood. In Louisiana we are the first to harvest
seafood such as: Shrimp, crabs,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A swamp is a wetland that has a very high concentration of woody plants. The soil has a very
lackluster drainage system and retains the majority of its water that it soaks up. Swamps are
deeper than marshes (another type of wetland) which can be about 3 feet deep. You can find a
swamp on slow moving streams, rivers, or low isolated areas. An example of an area that low and
isolated would be the Everglades in Florida, which are a massive system of wetlands. Although
you may think of a swamps as having mainly trees, some swamps are completely dominated by
shrubs. Those are the two categories of a swamp: Shrubs and Trees. Swamps are a wetland, and
wetlands are known for having an abundance of animals, some of those are: Alligators, beavers,
otters, snakes, insect, bobcats, and very large amounts of birds. Swamps have rich soils for
sustaining plant life as in the cypress tree. Cypress trees have a reputation of being able to sustain
being submerged in water and not dying from it. This is most stems from the fact that the cypress
tree grows with its roots and part of its base
Vasoconstriction Research Paper
Humans help maintain their body temperature by wearing clothes. When someone is surrounded by
something that is cooler than their body temperature, like air, or water, the body will lose heat.
Although clothing and shelter helps people stay warm, our body has adapted vasoconstriction as a
way to keep critical organs warm. Vasoconstriction is the tightening of blood vessels.
Vasoconstriction causes the blood flow to reduce which conserves body heat. However,
vasoconstriction can also lead to numbness, loss of hands, fingers and etc. The human body also uses
shivering to maintain body temperature. For example, shivering increases internal heat production by
causing the muscles to contract and relax rapidly.
Heat loss from the body primarily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frostnip occurs when water on the skins surface freezes. When recognizing frostnip some signs
and symptoms you should look for are: if the skin appears red and swollen, area is still painful
and repeated frostnip in the same area. When caring for frostnip you should gently warm the
affected area. You can do this by placing it against a warm body part. However, do not rub the
affected area. Frostbite is when the skins tissue becomes damage. This only happens in below
freezing temperatures. When recognizing a superficial frostbite, the skin should be white or
grayish yellow, the affect part should be cold and numb and the skin surface will feel stiff. When
recognizing a deep frostbite, the affect part should feel very hard, blisters might appear, or if the
affected pain stops hurting. When caring for a frostbite victim, first get the victim out of the cold
and into a warm place. Next, remove any wet clothing and seek medical attention. After, if the
affect part is partially thawed, place the affected area in warm water. After thawing: treat the
victim as a stretcher case is the feet is affected. Also, protect the area from contact. Furthermore,
place a dry, sterile gauze between the toes and the fingers to absorb moisture. Then, slightly elevate
the affected area. If advised by a physician, apply aloe vera gel, this will help the skin heal. Lastly,
give the victim an aspirin, this will help limit the pain and

Reflection Of The Human Eye
Overview
Our eyes are one of the most significant organs in our body. Through it, we are able to see things
and do our errands efficiently. The human eye is a complex yet imperative organ of our body filled
with nerves, a lens, liquid and more. This organ gives us the aptitude to envisage the world in
different colors, shapes and dimensions; centered on the reflection and refraction norm. In our eye,
several major constituents work concurrently to capture and transmit the image to the occipital lobe
of the brain through optic nerves. Separate info from left and right eye is directed to the brain
through these nerve impulses. This info is then combined by our brain for determining the distance
and profundity of the image so as to envisage full three dimensional images. The upward and
downward muscular movement of the eye is monitored by superior and inferior rectus muscles,
whereas the side movement and staying in level is controlled with the assistance of medial and
lateral rectus muscles. These muscles are in turn controlled over with the aid of oculomotor nerves.
To prevent the frictional impairment from these movements, the tears are released by lacrymal
glands, which can improve lubrication, confiscate foreign objects and avert bacterial infection.
Occipital lobe is the portion of central nervous system, accountable for deciphering vision. Thus,
any impairment to optic nerve can sternly affect central vision, peripheral vision and color vision of
an individual. The functional aberration in any of the above major constituents might cause serious
eye glitches; which if overlooked, might gradually result in vision loss. Thus, there are a number of
eye conditions such as retinopathy or some forms of corneal sicknesses, which can be very
upsetting for some of the patients; where as some of the other disorders can be so subtle that they
can be routinely treated by an ophthalmologist.
Symptoms
The various symptoms of eye disorders are:
Blurry vision on objects that are in the distance.
Squinting the eye
Severe headaches or the eyes will become exhausted from reading.
It is difficult to see things that are within close range.
In kids, the most common symptom is crossed eyes.
Eye weariness.

time shows like Dallas, Knot s Landing, and especially Dynasty would dominate the Nielsen

TV shows on cable, according to the Nielsen ratings during the 1984 1985 season it come in as the

Originally the show itself was known as Dynasty II: The Colbys, with the dynasty part of the title
appearing larger than the any other font on the ads. The show was having trouble living up to the
expectation fans of Dynasty hard for the show, so it was ultimately disappointed longtime fans
and couldn t seem to draw in new ones. Even the ads themselves were not that exciting, with the
one at the bottom of the page being a prime example. The ad itself is only 3 blown up pictures of
three characters of the show as the text mentions that Jason [Colby] is torn between his love of
two sisters . A instant problem with this promotion is that Jason Colby is played by a 62 year old
Charlton Heston, a man not particularly good looking and is torn between two younger, much
more attractive women. John Forsythe played Heston s counterpart on Dynasty and he was a
much more likable and handsome man than Heston, and he was even older than Heston. The ad
doesn t necessarily drum up any excitement for the show itself, and the worst part is that this is a
promotion for the series premiere! To be honest it s hard not to see why the show failed upon when
nit was released, it was panned by critics and not particularly well advertised by the network
Athletes Paid Too Much
There is no question that sports are a big part of American culture. Almost anyone that you speak
with has a favorite team in some kind of sport. These beloved sports are not cheap, however. The
sports industry pumps out billions of dollars each year. While a lot of this money goes towards
stadium renovations, front office benefits, and marketing, nearly half of the money spent on sports
in America goes toward the salaries of the players. Daniel Roberts, a sports writer for the popular
Sports Illustrated, wrote an article entitled Fortunate 50. In this article, Roberts describes the fifty
highest paid American athletes of 2013. In order for the athletes to make the list, they had to be a

people are able to see athletes perform. Merchandise and ticket sales produce billions of dollars

The works of art that will be compared in this paper are Giotto, Lamentation (c1304 5), and Rogier

share the same topic: the story of the lamentation of Christ from the Holy Bible. The story of
lamentation of Christ can be summarized as following: due to the betrayal of the Judas, Christ was
arrested and crucified. Both drawings illustrate the scene of the deposition of Christ. These drawings
demonstrate the naturalism by using emotional effect. Giotto was an Italian painter and architect

Although she knows her son will be reborn, she still can t accept the truth that her son is dead. On
the painting, not every character s attention is on Jesus. John the disciple and another female
character supported Jesus s mother by lending her with their hand. The characters on the right
took Jesus down from the cross. All of their facial expressions show sadness. The facial
expressions make this painting look more like a realistic photo. Jesus s mother is wearing clothes
in blue, which is a very expansive pigment in that time. This fact shows that the social status of
religious is very high at that time. The functionality and color of these art pieces are different as
well. Lamentation is a fresco and its purpose is to spread the gospel and let every person know
about Jesus. The color of this painting doesn t have many contrasts. All the colors are light.
However, Deposition was an altarpiece, which means that it is for religious rites, it reminds people
of the history of Christianity. Deposition s color and facial expression are more elaborate than
Lamentation, which also shows the advancement in technique over the last 100 years. The colors in
this painting contrast each other. The color blue, red and green make a very strong contrast on the
picture. The shape of Deposition is irregular which makes it difficult for artists to fulfill the top.
However, Rogier van der Weyden
