Tecumseh s Speech Address To The Osages
Shawnee Chief, Tecumseh, in his speech, Address to the Osages , provides a proposal to the
Osages tribe. Tecumseh s purpose is to convince the Osages that by working together alongside the
other tribes, they would be able to drive the white colonists off the land. By using a series of rhetoric
strategies, Tecumseheffectively achieves his purpose.

Tecumseh begins his speech by referring to the term Brothers to address the Osages as a form of
repetition throughout the whole oration. He appeals to his audience by making it known that he
sees them as equals who belong to one family [and] are all children of the Great Spirit . The term
brothers implies that they are all a part of one cohesive unit. Using this term expresses a sense of
togetherness and unity that Tecumseh invokes in order to first establish a connection between the
audience and himself. By doing so, he is able to better reach the thoughts and emotions of the
audience and convince them of his idea as well. The more trust that the audience gains in Tecumseh,
the more likely they are to follow along with his plan to halt the encroachment of white settlers. ...

A Latina In Academia By Carmen Lugo Analysis
College: Where Business Thrives and Racial Injustice Lives
Today s society sees college as a very fundamental step to obtaining success. Carmen Lugo Lugo
argues that instead of being focused on education, college is beginning to convert into a marketplace
and a business. She states that colleges are now more interested in making a profit from their
students than the actual education they are there for. Due to this mindset, the flow of the classroom
environment and how students treat professors is affected. She also makes it known how prevalent
systematic racism and racial profiling exist and tells the readers by her first hand accounts. In her
essay A Prostitute, A Servant, And A Customer Service Representative: A Latina in Academia ,
Associate Professor in the Department of Critical Culture, Gender, and Race Studies, Carmen Lugo
Lugo uses emotion and language to communicate her claim. Throughout her writing she
demonstrates strong emotion evoking words, and hyperboles.
Through her personal experiences, Lugo Lugo reels in her audience by connecting with them
emotionally. She recalls many stories of when she was a victim of discrimination due to her race
and sex. As a professor, students viewed her differently from her colleagues, due to the fact that
she is Latina and a woman. On the first day of classes Lugo Lugo explains one of the incidents that
took place in her classroom, Student: I do not feel like being in the classroom today, and since my

From 2006 to 2007, Japan s inflation rate took a rapid increase from negative inflation in 2006 to
positive inflation rate in 2007. This sharp increase in inflation rate was likely to be due to the
world s shortage of rice crisis. As rice is Japan s main source of stable food, the rice crisis push up
rice prices globally, causing the inflation rate in Japan to rise sharply. Currently, there are
speculation that Japan s inflation rate may rose at the fastest pace in the decade as companies facing
the global economic crisis may pass higher costs to consumers.

Prices of daily necessities rose while pay stagnated, causing a sharp increase in consumer price index
and thus the increase in inflation rate.

3. Unemployment Rate

Japan s unemployment rate was 3.9% in 2008 and worsen during the global economy recession.
The ratio of jobs to applicants worsened, sliding to a two year low of 0.97. Currently, Japan s
unemployment rate rose to 5.2%, as the number of jobless rose to nearly 3.5 million. The total
number of jobless people climbed by 770,000 from a year earlier to 3.47 million in May,
according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in its monthly report. Those with
employment fell by 1.36 million from the previous year to 63.42 million, as quoted by TOMOKO
A. HOSAKA Jun 30, 2009. It is expected that Japan s unemployment rate will rise to a new record
since its last peak in 2002 (Refer to Annex 2.31) This increase in unemployment
The Discovery Of The Space Station
Someday, somehow, Clarke knew that she would witness the beauty of Earth. She would be able
to feel the sun warm her skin, and have the wind kiss her cheeks as she walked through a forest.
Maybe she would watch a rabbit hop out of a bush, or follow butterflies as she wandered carelessly
around the ground if those creatures were still alive from all the radiation. Her father had always
told her stories about Earth, visualizing it as a heaven for the living. It had been nearly ninety seven
years since the last humans touched the Earth s surface, and only a couple hundred thousand had
survived long enough to make it to the Arkthe space station where the last human beings have been
living in since the nuclear bombings. Had the humans not been at conflict with one another, then
maybe they would still be inhabitants of Earth. But war brought distrust, and distrust in the other
countries led to nuclear warfare. While watching the old documentaries of the last surviving
humans retelling their stories of Earth, Clarke realized how different the Ark was, and how she
would never live to her fullest until she was on the ground. The Ark was always cold, and empty,
and the oxygen she breathed felt, if she could describe it in a word, fake. Surely, Clarke had never
before breathed oxygen from the ground, but its as almost as if her mind knew the oxygen she
breathed wasn t right. As she sat against the stone wall of her small cell, she stared at her drawings
of Earth. With only a
Juvenile Punishment In The Juvenile Justice System
Breaking the cycle of recidivism among chronic and habitual juvenile offenders is one of the
major issues encountering the juvenile justice system. Millions of dollars are distributed each year
by state and county officials for custodial care, treatment, and rehabilitation for juvenile offenders
(Albert R. Roberts Michael J. Camasso, 1991). Analyses presume that punishment plays a major
role in shaping the behavior of people. This process includes children of all ages, students in a
school setting, employees in the work place, and citizens in the community (Cherrington, 2007).
Punishment has been a part of society for many years and people are divided on the punishment
concept. Child rearing is viewed by some as a form of punishment and some states just as California
has debated that spanking is illegal (Cherrington, 2007). Spanking being a form of punishment is
viewed also an effective and timely way to alter behavior. Some studies reveal without punishment
homes, schools, and the communities will decay. The big question is if punishment works and if it
does works how can it be proven. Punishment and its effect have been researched and studied
through child rearing, work place management, and in the field of criminology(Cherrington, 2007).
An example of punishment in the work place would be placing an employee on probation for
excessive tardiness, grounding a teenager for not cleaning his or her room, or sentencing a criminal
offender to prisonfor committing a crime.
Byronic Hero s Journey
For the past century, feminist narratives have inspired existential viewpoints and movements that
ignite social change. Writers have formed a foundation for societal progress, which has so far given
the marginalized a voice, brought attention to discrimination, earned women a right to vote, and
given femaleperspectives on issues. However, today s narratives have been subtly deteriorating the
progress of feminism, although hidden by distracting tropes such as the supernatural, science
fiction, or horror. The popularity of such narratives has led to a disdainful and disrespectful view of
feminism, as well as many feminist goals to be counteracted. A novel that exemplifies this, the
Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer, has developed an enormous fan base who idealize traditional
genderroles and feminine autonomy, romanticize abuse and emotional manipulation, and glamorize
a static, incapable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a stereotype that feminists are passionately attempting to refute as it regards gender roles
with a hierarchical and inequitable standing. However, the popularity of Twilight idealizing this
literary and social cliche opposes feminist ideals of nonhierarchical relationships and domestic
equality. Edward represents what can be identified as a Byronic Hero: a manipulative, elitist
character with a dark past, similar to Mr. Darcy of Pride and Prejudice or Mr. Rochester of Jane Eyre
(Borgia). These stereotypical characters similarly profit from their own egoistic dominance, using
abuse and manipulation to transform their relationships into a hierarchy that benefits them. The idea
that this fictitious pop culture icon can be easily compared to abusive characters in 19th century
novels demonstrates the regressive and conservative role Edward represents, including the abuse that
is associated with these
