If Robin Hood was an outlaw who did not obey the law, then why was he viewed as a heroic
character? The answer was that he stood for the common man. He was a people s hero and a
champion of the poor. Anthony Pollard reveals Robin Hood s reasoning for robbing the rich and
giving to the poor is his book Imagining Robin Hood. He explains that He does not rob the rich to
give to the poor. He robs from the undeserving and helps the deserving (4). Robin Hood is
considered a fictional character but the impact his legends had on our society is very real, and will
influence generations form many years to come.
THE REAL ROBIN HOOD When dealing with the fictional character of Robin Hood, it is easy to
get lost in the fantasy of his tale because of the additions to the story through oral tradition over
the years. However, there was a real life Robin Hood who was much different than what twentieth
century cinemas portrayed him as being. The real Robin Hood was born at Locksley in the county
of Nottingham during the reign of Henry II. It may be confusing to many people to hear that he
was a yeoman, nothing more, nothing less. The ideal supremacy from his legends depicts him as
being a knight in shining armor, but the history from his ballads tells otherwise. Although no
scholar has ever proved his existence, the setting in which most of his exploits took place was very
real.. His
Factory Girls By Leslie Chang
In her novel Factory Girls, Leslie Chang offers an insider s perspective of the Chinese export
business that ultimately exposes the true colors of factory life in China to the people of the
western society. Throughout the novel, she cites historical reasoning as to why a sudden growth in
factory workers has occurred and how it has turned into the monstrous industry that it is now.
Mainly, she credits the large migration of people from the rural areas to the cities because this
caused major political reform. The PRC were then able to move into the global economy with a
new strategy, given by Deng Xiao Ping, which consequently caused trade to open up and certain
cities to be designated as placeholders for economic development with the potential for newer
business. Most importantly, the reestablishment of the hukou system in the early sixties, preceding
the failure of Mao s Great Leap Forwardplan, affected factories in Chinaheavily. By law, every
worker in the city needed a hukou, an urban residence permit, in order to be allowed to work. This
created a huge conflict between China s urban and rural citizens as it was made extremely difficult
for people from rural areas to get hukous, which of course everyone wanted (Naughton, pg. 118).
Because of this, the urban and rural areas started to develop in very different ways since city folk
had primary access to food, even during the nationwide famine. However, even with the societal
uproar, the Chinese government did not make
The Rise Of The Roman Empire
In 448 AD, Greek writer and historian Priscus journeyed from Constantinople to meet with Attila the
Hun. Pricus wrote down the events of his journey, leaving one of the few first hand accounts of a
diplomatic meeting with the Huns. His writings can tell us much about how the Huns interacted
with other cultures and societies and how Attila specifically welcomed his guests to his court.
Europe, in the 5th century, was undergoing many societal changes. Many of these changes were
associated with the introduction of new barbarian tribes barbarian is derived from the Greek word
babblers meaning anyone who did not speak Greek. During the decline of the Roman Empire, many
barbaric tribes took the opportunity to attack. The migration of barbarians closer to Rome put
stress on an already stressed Roman government. The increased tension eventually lead to an
outbreak of wars. In 410 Rome was sacked by the Visigoths lead by Alaric and was attacked again in
455 but the Vandals( Dining With Attila the Hun, 448 ). Attacks on the Roman Empire by the Huns
did not start until the middle of the 5th century. The Huns crossed the Danube in 441, upon crossing
they sacked the city of Margus ( Late Roman Timeline ). The Huns in 442 cross the Danube again
this time sacking more cities than they had the previous year. The Roman government began to grow
fearful of the army Attila had established under his rule. This fear forced the Roman Empire to start
paying Attila and his Huns from invading

Purgative medicines are cheap in cost but children dislike the taste because of its bitterness. The
researchers came up with this project due to the desire of helping the parents of infected children
in convincing their kids to take good tasting purgative remedy that is cheaper in cost and can be
done at home. The researchers found out that pounded and boiled akapulko seeds are used as an
effective purgative agent. Akapulko is an herbal plant that can be used in curing skin, stomach,
lung, and mouth problems, and is well known for its sudorific, diuretic and purgative
characteristics. It can be ingested without having any side effect or contraindications. The
researchers thought of pulvoron, being a healthy, delicious, and attractive treat for all. The
akapulko seeds were consider as extender in place of the traditional rice crisps, nuts, or nougats in
the pulvoron. Established that akapulvoron could be an effective and safe purgative treat, the
researchers intended to conduct a sensory analysis of the product to determine if it would be
generally accepted by the public. 15 comments: Links to this post Email ThisBlogThis!Share to

Self Concept Is Our Self Identity Essay
Self concept is our self identity, and is the way that one perceives itself, it includes both attitudes
and the collection of beliefs. Self Concept also branches out into self image and self esteem. Self
image, is the way the person pictures itself. The self esteem is the way we evaluate ourselves. We
identify ourselves by our communication, and our interactions with others. In other words I think,
therefore I am (René Descartes; ego cogito, ergo sum ) If a person was to tell another person what
they think they look like, odds are that that person may view himself as what the other person thinks
/views him as. It could either raise or lower the self esteemof the person, it could also enhance the
way we view ourselves, depending on the type of people the person associates, communicates and
experience interactions with them. If a person associates himself or herself with educated people,
he or she will most likely feel respected. If he or she associates with people of less morals, odds are
that that person may just have a lower self esteem and self image compared to the person that hangs
around overall good people.
It is believed that developing a self concept is essential to perform well in the work place. A work
place involves a constant interaction between its workers and environment, communication. Believe
it or not communication and self esteem are related, we perceive ourselves based on our own
experiences and communication with others. The people one is surrounded by
Nuclear Power And The Chernobyl Disaster
The Chernobyl Disaster was not meant to happen at all, what was supposed to happen was an
experiment to see if the reactor s own electrical needs could be supplied by a freewheeling turbine
in the event of a power outage, but the experiment did not go as it was planned. This experiment
gone wrong caused so much radiation sickness to the people, which lead to death by sickness, or
death by cancer. The people who lived ended up having children with many mutations and
disabilities. The Soviet Union wanted to hide the fact this never happened, so they released false
information about the disaster to the public not realizing the many after effects this would have on
the world, the people and the environment. Nuclear powerplants may create a... Show more content

The first part of the five basic parts to a nuclear reactor starts with the core which holds the Uranium
fuel. As there are many different types of reactors each core holds a different type of Uranium.
For some examples, a heavy water reactor uses natural Uranium, which 0.7% is Uranium 235,
while light water reactors use Uranium that has been enriched, so that Uranium 235 makes up
around 3 5% of the total. The next part of the reactor is the moderator, now the moderator is a light
material such as water. The water will allow the neutrons to be slowed down without being captured.
The benefit of slowing down these fast neutrons during fission is it can increase their efficiency by
causing further fission. Control Rods are made up of materials that can absorb neutrons, such as
silver, boron, indium, hafnium, or cadmium. These are introduced into the reactor to reduce the
number of neutrons and thus stop the fission process when required to stop. Another use of the rods
is to control the level and distribution of power in the reactor. Next part of the reactor is the coolant.
The coolant is the fluid that circulates through the reactor core. This absorbs and transfers heat that
is produced by nuclear fission. Also at the same time, it maintains the temperature of the fuel within
the acceptable limits. The final part the nuclear reactor is the
