Q1. Answer the following questions: [2x15]

a) A voltage v(t) = 177 sin (314 t + 10 ) is applied to a circuit. It causes a steady-state current to
flow, which is described by i(t) = 14.14 sin (314 t – 200). Determine the power factor and
average power delivered to the circuit.
b) What will be the line current for a balanced 3-phase supply given to star connected load with
impedance 5+6j in each phase, with a 330V ac supply?
c) An air-cored coil has 500 turns. The mean length of the magnetic flux path is 50 cm and the
area of the cross-section is 10х10-4 m2 If the exciting current is 5A, Determine H.
d) A single phase, 220 /110V, 50 Hz transformer takes an input of 320 VA at no load. While
working at rated voltage, the core loss is 110W. Find the loss component of no-load current.
e) Why Transformers are rated in KVA?
f) What do you mean by synchronous speed and slip for a 3-phase induction motor?
g) Calculate the total energy consumed in one week, for a home, in which ten 500W bulbs are
used for 10 hours in each day.
h) What are the parts of cable? Mention in a neat diagram of cable.
i) What are the parts of MCB and how it works?
j) Perform the conversion as mentioned below:

k) What do you mean by p-n junction diode? Draw the V-I characteristics of a p-n junction
diode.
l) Establish the relationship in between α and β in the context of a Bipolar junction transistor.
m) Realize OR, AND gate with the help of NOR gates.
n) If A, B and C are the Boolean variables then prove that:
AB + A’ C + BC = AB + A’C
o) If F (A, B, C) = (A’+ B+ C). (A+ B’+C). (A’+B). (A+C) then find out the max terms.

Q2. (Answer any Two) [7X2]
a)
Find the current through 10ohm resistance using nodal analysis.
b) Find the current through 10ohm resistance using nodal analysis.
c) When an inductive coil is connected to a DC supply at 240 V, the current in it is 16 A. When
the same coil is connected to an AC supply at 240 V, 50 Hz, the current is 12.27 A. Calculate
(i) Resistance, (ii) Impedance, (iii) Reactance, and (iv) inductance of the coil.
OR
A balanced delta-connected 3-phase load is fed from a 3-phase, 400 V supply. The line
current is 20 A and the total power absorbed by the load is 10 kW. Calculate (i) impedance in
each branch, (ii) power factor, and (iii) real and reactive power if the same impedances are
star connected.

a) (i) Explain the working principle for a three-phase induction motor?
(ii) A 12-pole, 50 Hz, three-phase induction motor runs at 485 rpm. Find the slip for this
motor?
b) A Ring shaped electromagnet has an air gap 6mm long 20 cm2 in area, the mean
length of the core being 50 cm, and its cross-section 10 cm2. Calculate the ampere-
turns required to produce a flux density of 0.5 wb/m2 in the air gap. The relative
permeability of iron 1800.
c) For a single-phase, 50 Hz, 150kVA transformer, the required no-load voltage ratio is
5000/200 V. The full load copper loss and iron loss are 1800W and 1500W respectively.
Find the efficiency at full load, and 20% load with 0.8 Power factor.

a) Draw and explain the operation of CE, and CB modes for p-n-p or n-p-n transistor.
Draw the input and output characteristics for all the above cases. [4+3]
b) (i) If Vγ is the cutin voltage of the diode D1 then Plot the output waveform of the
below circuit: [3+4]
(ii) Describe the reverse bias characteristics of a p-n junction diode with a suitable
circuit diagram.
c) (i) If A, B, and C are the Boolean variables then Prove the following:

(ii) Draw a neat sketch the working of the centre tap transformer based full wave
rectifier.

a) Explain the need of earthing and the process of plate earthing.
b) How RCCB work and how it is different from Fuse?
Q6. (Answer the following) [7X2]
a) (i) Explain with the help of a circuit diagram how Zener diode works as a voltage
regulator? [4+3]
(ii) Consider a pn junction at T=300°K in which IS= 10-14 and n=1. Find the diode current
for vD= +0.80V and vD= -0.80V.
b) (i) Draw the circuit diagram with the help of logic gates of the below Boolean
expression: [3+4]
