Analysis Of Gone With The Outsiders
1. When Ponyboy awoke in the church he felt stiff, sore, scared, hungry, and confused. Ponyboy was
also panicky because at first he forgot where he was, and Johnny was not there. Pony tried to
convince himself that what happened last night was a dream, but he could remember every detail of
the whole night.
2. Johnny cared for Pony by buying Pony s favorite book, got supplies for the two of them, bought
bleach to disguise Pony, comforts him, tells him not to smoke too much, and lets him sleep on his
shoulder.
3. The boys changed their hairstyles because they needed to disguise themselves from the police,
so it would be less likely of them being caught. This was hard for them to do because their hair is a
part of who they are, it identifies them as a Greaser.
4. The boys passed time in the church by reading Gone With the Wind out loud, playing cards,
smoking, talking, and watching the sunsets.
5. Johnny feels that Dally is sort of like a hero, like the southern gentle men in Gone With the Wind.
Johnny really loves Dally. Johnny feels this way about Darry because he is cool and calm in scary
situations.
6. The information Dally brought the boys was Cherry became a spy for the Greasers, the
Greasers and the Socs were going to have a big fight, and the policemen were looking for them in
Texas because Dally told them that s where they were.
1. I think Johnny enjoyed reading Gone With the Wind because it is about the Civil War and the
fight between the Socs and Greasers is sort of
New Fern Homes Analysis
In my last post I discussed my visit to New Bern to select and photograph homes. The next part of
my research process was to select houses that I would analyze in Williamsburg. Initially I thought I
would be able to compare homes of very similar ages but this turned out not to be the case.
Although I had selected the oldest homes in New Bern, most were still built significantly later than
those of Williamsburg. The homes in New Bern were built in the latter part of the 18th century,
while many homes in Williamsburg were built in the early or mid 18th century. Additionally, the
New Bern homes were all grand in size, most having two or more stories. In contrast, the majority
of homes I researched in Colonial Williamsburg were more modest in size. After choosing several
homes in Colonial Williamsburg, I again met with Mr. Klee, the architectural historian for the
Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, who I discussed my findings with. For starters, I had hoped to

Taliferro was also responsible for repairing and renovating the Governor s Palace and may have
been working on both projects at the same time (Whiffen 175). In 1755 George Wythe married
Elizabeth, Richard Taliferro s daughter and then moved into the house. When Taliferro died in
1755, the house was deeded to the couple. The brickwork of the exterior is of high quality with
artistic touches seen in the flayed brickwork above the windows (Whiffen 175). Perhaps the most
notable aspect of the house s construction is the use of ratios and symmetry to appeal to the viewer s
eye (Whiffen 88). All four exteriors of the house are symmetrical, with the interior only symmetrical
along the east west axis (Whiffen 175). Outbuildings and kitchens were removed from the main
structure, as was typical in colonial Virginia (Whiffen
Gender Differences In Video Games
Aggression is behavior intended to harm another individual who is motivated to avoid that harm.
(Anderson and Bushman 354). Being that a connection between aggression and violent video games
makes the statement, males have more aggression after exposure to violent video games than
females true in every aspect. Identifying the absolute fact behind the claim defines the clear purpose
of the argument. With connecting school shootings, different types of video games, and overall
statistics of the male verse female relation, will make the conclusion stomp on all beliefs as well as
only provide the upmost reliable truth to the claim. Leading in with school shootings forms the
starting point.
While examining all information on violent video games ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More than half of the video games purchased are from underage children. The sheer scope of media
choices renders futile any effort to rein in content through regulations. Regulations which nobody
seemed to follow or obey. Occasional pixilated displays of violence or sex can be found in some
games that are sometimes sold to children. These comprise a tiny part of the total array of media
content freely available to anyone. (Koffler 51). Further, hearing from Mark and Keisha Hoerrner,
parents allow the exposure to violent video games, without even checking the industry ratings.
Victims susceptible to increased aggression learn that violence is acceptable to solve problems,
and they perfect the art of shooting as though the virtual gun was a real weapon (39). Hoerrners
concede that parents need to be aware of the inappropriate content that is viewed, as well as inform
the players reality to socially acceptable behavior in the real world. The Hoerrners and Koffler agree
to such statement that violent video games don t have any further effect on aggression, due to the
fault of parents and the video games stores themselves. Even though such belief is valid in the sense
that parents have to have a watchful eye, but in order to make the statement true, more information

The Charge Of The Light Brigade Figurative Language Essay
The Charge of the Light Brigade by Tennyson is full of very strong figurative language. The
figurative language helps to fill out to poem and bring it to life. Anaphora is heavily used
throughout the poem. Theirs not to make a reply, Theirs not to reason why (lines 13 14), is an
example of an anaphora that shows the plight of the soldiers riding to their death. They blindly
follow orders because that is what they were trained to do. They have no choice in the matter. All
they can hope for is an honorable death. Another example of an anaphora occurs in lines 18 through
20. Cannons to the right of them, Cannons to the left of them, Cannons in front of them, . This
portrays the imminent doom of the brave soldiers charging headlong into battle.... Show more content

Tennyson uses anaphoras in order to build suspense in the reader. He reels the reader in with them
and gets them hooked on the poem. A third example of anaphora is exhibited in lines 24 and 25.
Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of Hell, shows the extreme duress the light brigade had to
endure. No one expected to come out alive. Tennyson compares their charge hell and there are very
few things worse. Tennyson portrays their ordeal as the worst of the worst, and this helps to
show the amazing courage the brigade had. To face death with determination is one of the bravest
acts there is. The final example of anaphora is in lines 27 and 28. Flash d all their sabres bare,
Flash d as they turn d in the air, This shows the brigades iron will. They are charging headlong into
cannons and gunfire with no regard for their own lives. They will die for their cause with no
qualms. Alliteration is also widely used throught the poem. One example occurs on line 22. Storm d
at with shot and shell, shows the raw firepower that the brigade faced. They rode headlong into a
swirl of death and destruction, knowing what the outcome would
War In The Pacific
The Leyte Operation American involvement with the war in the Pacific may have begun with
the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but it quickly escalated to the shores of the Philippine islands.
Battles were hard won and bitterly lost throughout the push in the pacific. Yet, one loss carried
significantly more agony for General Douglas MacArthur than all the others. MacArthur was
forced to abandon the Philippine islands under direct orders from President Franklin Roosevelt in
March 1942 (History 2010). With bitter disappointment MacArthur vowed he shall return. As the
war raged on it became clear that the Philippine islands was key in the strategy to penetrate the
Japanese hold in the Pacific. However, another defeat in the Philippines would have crippled the
momentum of the Allied forces in the pacific. Japanese offensive abilities were significantly
reduced in June 1942, after its defeat at the battle of Midway. Suffering the loss of four aircraft
carriers, Japan was forced to take a defensive posture to protect what land it held in the Pacific (U.S.
History 2008). This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
MacArthur s plan for taking the Philippines started with an assault on the island of Mindanao.
However, aerial reconnaissance reported the island of Leyte was a softer target and would
strengthen the assault on the Philippines, so the plan was changed (Derks n.d.). On October 20,
1944, following two days of bombardment, the largest amphibious landing in the Pacific hit the
beaches of Leyte (Leyte 198). A few hours after troops had landed, General MacArthur made his
way ashore and sending a radio broadcast, People of the Philippines, I have returned! making good
on his promise several years earlier (History 2010). MacArthur may have won a large personal
victory that day, but the battle for Leyte was far from
Literary Techniques Used In The Arctic Refuge By Jimmy...
Throughout his text, US President Jimmy Carter applies many types of literary devices, and
persuasive elements to help strengthen his point view as well as appeal to his audience. He also
displays his logical appeal in order to strengthen his argument. This is shown through his personal
anecdotes, facts, as well as the personification of the nature and his choice of whimsical diction. As
the passage begins, Carter begins to paint a picture for the audience, using emotional appeal to
describe his time in the regions of the Arctic Refuge. He introduces his own personal experience
regarding the topic. Through sharing his own experiences, Carter establishes a personal bond with
the reader, which in turn would aid in the persuasion of his opinion. He continues on by mentioning
one of the most unforgettable and humbling experiences of his life where him and his wife had
witnessed the migration of caribou. By revealing that one of his most unforgettable experiences was
also linked to the Arctic Refuge, he highlights the importance of these experiences for others to
have. By establishing a personal connection with his audience, Carter is not only able to grasp their
attention but also builds his credibility easily, through his use of facts and examples.... Show more

By describing his experiences as magnificent and timeless , he implies a whimsical and original feel
to the Refuge. He continues by personifying the elements of nature, painting a picture for the reader
as he describes the lichens that hugged the tundra he animates the situation for the reader to relate.
Through this personification Carter solidifies his emotional appeal and personal
Formal And Informal Education In Saudi Aramco
Education systems comprise of three main parts, formal, nonformal, and informal education. To
understand why informal education is getting more and more relevant today, one must first be clear
as to what the definitions of each is. The problematics of formal education are giving way to non
formal/informal educationso a distinction must be made first and foremost. I will then go on to
discuss the example of Saudi Aramco and how it integrated education as a prerequisite for its
employees and even non employees. I chose this topic because, first and foremost, my father has
been and still is an employee at Saudi Aramco for the past 33 years, but also because the particular
company has not left a stone untouched when it comes to encouraging self development . This is a
word I used to see all the time growing up in Saudi Aramco, where I was born. I never really knew
how important this term was until I came to AUB. Also, my father spent the first 10+ years at
Aramco teaching employees everything from Chemistry to Math and English and even how to type!
But first, definitions:
Formal education, the most common and obvious type of education, ...corresponds to a systematic,
organized education model, structured and administered according to a given set of laws and norms,
presenting a rather rigid curriculum as regards objectives, content and methodology. (Zaki Dib
1987:1) It requires students to physically attend classes a minimum number of times and is
administered with a rigid
Blueberry Pancakes Alternate Ending
Mio watched the shape in the corner, from the corner of his eye. It writhed, a mass of navy
sludge, melting and folding upon itself like monstrous blueberry pancake batter. Mio fucking
hated blueberry pancakes. He hated all foods that combined blueberries and pastries; they ruined
both the delicately tart sweetness of the fruit and the fluffy decadence of baked goods. The
berries always ended up mashed, and ended up making the rest of the thing soggy, but only in
patches, so it was only partially ruined. And that, in a sense, was the worst kind of ruined. If
something was completely and utterly destroyed, it could be tossed out without a second thought,
like your ex girlfriend s corpse after you erased any identifying factors from it and carved it up
like the Thanksgiving turkey, satisfied that the police would never find her. But he didn t do that.
And confectioneries with blueberries were only partially destroyed. But by being only partially

Mio picked up his phone and opened up the music application, and pressed the shuffle button
before placing it back into his pocket. The lyrics were slightly muffled through the fabric, but he
could hear them clear enough. He smiled, leaning back in the armchair, this is my favorite song,
he commented, noticing that the goo in the corner seemed to be collapsing along to the rhythm
of the song. His smile faltered slightly as he thought about just how blue it was: deep, drinkable,
and dark as the bottom of the well where he d fallen down as a kid and gotten stuck for days,
eyeing the sky through its reflection in the water as he pulled his knees to his chest. He d always
been scared of drowning and heights ever since then. The mass undulated. Mio shuddered as he felt
a nausea rise in his lungs, that slowly swelled to encompass his entire
Voltaire and The Enlightenment
The eighteenth century was a crucial changing point in the European history because of The
Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was revolutionary because of Voltaire, a writer that used his
ideas to attack the established Catholic Church, and to propagate the freedom of religion, scientific
thoughts, skepticism and experiential philosophy.
Voltaire was born in 1694, a year that was under the regiment of Louis XIV. At that time, the
aristocracy ruled France in an extreme way that most commoners were struggling in poverty. From
a middle class family, Voltaire did not like the political environment of France and the aristocratic
system. As a well educated and intelligent student from the college of Louis le Grand, he became a
secretary for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By this storyline, Voltaire wanted to tell the French aristocracy that they did not have any heritage.
Once they were expelled from their current positions, they needed to live as commoners, or maybe
suffered more because they had never done anything in the castle.
Even though Candide was expelled, he was still very happy because he always believed in
optimistic philosophy. He learnt the philosophy from his teacher, Panloss, a parody of the
contemporary philosophers in the seventeenth century that always argued about the metaphysics,
which had no use in the real world. Also, the optimism was a satire from the philosophy of
Leibniz, a popular philosopher around that time. The optimism was widely used in the Christian
churches to tell people that life was always full of happiness because the perfect God created the
world. Human beings suffered in the world because they did not see the greater purpose from God.
The sufferings were only trials and in the end the human being would still deserve ultimate
happiness. After the Lisbon s earthquake, which killed more than 30,000 people, many of who died
because they were just praying to the God without actually doing anything, Voltaire was very angry
about the situation that the priests in the church did not help people, but led them to sit in the church
and pray. Therefore, he wanted to attack this philosophy, so in Candide he described the horrible
