The Hackathon
On January 8, St. Joseph hosted the NYC Hackathon. The Hackathon was created by We Connect
The Dots, an organization that teaches students about technology and different ways to utilize it.
The Hackathon was a three day event in which teams were randomly put together to create a
website to tackle global issues. During the Hackathon, students from other schools stayed over the
weekend to take part in this event. Yes, we took showers. We showered in a gym next door, which
by the way was oh, so, fabuloso! The Hackathon started on the night of Friday January 8. That
night we were assigned to our teams, and completed our first activity. We built a tower out of cups,
pasta, a pencil, a rubber band, and a bag. The towers were then judged by volunteers.... Show more

I saw many teams come together to win the competition. On Saturday, January 9, we learned
about the steps needed to create a website and where to go to do so. I learned that I will stick to
writing, creating a website is a complicated process. Then the groups did other activities where
they built bridges with two teams. They had to create their own half of a bridge, then attach the
bridges together, which should be able to hold a certain amount of bags with marbles in them.
The team that got the most marbles won. Somehow, my team, or in this activity, teams , were
able to get this done. When we finished our bridge it looked like it came out of a landfill, but it
held together. The funniest part of this activity was that my team winning even though our
bridge looked horrible, and team 6 s bridge was fancy with a 3D approach, which was amazing.
My team also did a 3D bridge but not as well done, but somehow we held the most marbles,
THEREFORE WE WON! Sadly, again, no prizes. One thing I learned from the Hackathon was the
art of no sleep. When we started working on our websites we stayed up for hours. I stayed up for 25
hours. Eventually Sunday, January 10th rolled around and the projects were submitted and
El Plan Manifesto
LALS 311 Spring 2016 Reading Response #2 In El Plan Espiritual de Aztlán, was a declaration to
the chicano movement in the 60 s. This document initiated the movement for chicanos to fight for
what they believed was right, and to end the injustice of the chicano society. El Plan, calls for
chicanos to mobilize their people a demand for justice. This declaration/manifesto was split into 3
parts: Nationalism, Organizational Goals, and Actions. But, what I noticed in each section of the
manifesto was that even though there was 3 sections each section mentioned, life, family, unity,
respect. I believed that chicanos wanted to keep their values as grounded as possible because that is
how the bronze people would have liked to keep it and honestly
Hurricane Mitch
In all of the texts Memories of the Flood, Hurricane Mitch, and Teacher Rescued at Sea they all tell
and show about how people had to deal with a long term problem caused by the destruction of
hurricane Mitch. The impact that this hurricane were similar and different in each story but it was
still heartbreaking. In the article Memories of the Floodmany cars and even some houses were under
water and left many homeless. In addition the article Hurricane Mitchmany people s houses and
land were destroyed by mud, also there food population went down by a lot so many people were
left starving. Finally in the article Teacher Rescued at Sea a women has lossed her really close
family members including her three kids and husband when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One of these similarities were that in each article Memories of the Flood, Hurricane Mitch, and
Teacher Rescued at Sea something was taken away from somebody or a large a population that
they loved. For example in the article Memories of the Flood 600 acres of farming land was
drenched in water and all of the plants and crops has died, According to the text it states If the
rains did not stop, we knew, the seeds and soil would wash away. . Also in the article Hurricane
Mitch Farming property homes were destroyed by mud, mud cover acres of land across many
islands and countries, there were only a few houses left and very little food so most people were
left starving, According to the text it states Tons and tons of mud flowed down the hillsides and
covered whole towns it also states the hurricane pounded the island and destroyed almost
everything in sight. It ripped up houses, boats, docks, telephone poles, and roads. Many people
have went homeless and some have died of starvation. Finally In the article Teacher Rescued at
Sea a teacher, wife, and mother has lost her house and her children due to this hurricane, there
house has been washed away along with everybody else. According to the text it states that was
the last time Mrs. Arriola saw the rest of her family alive. The force of the water soon separated all
of them and washed them out to sea, Mrs Arriola will never overcome this problem. These
similarities show how a hurricane can take something that is so valuable and loved away from
Mansfield Short Stories
Through her short stories you feel the emotional connection within the characters. She was a
young New Zealand who was dying with a disease called Tuberculosis, dying at the age of 34.
Successfully, she wrote three books with a fourth and fifth book following after her death. There
were many trigger points that led her to become a writer, they were moving back to New Zealand,
her brother s deathin World War 1, and her sensations with how women were treated. Her stories
were described as blurred edges of personality, the poetry of feelingand the expansiveness of the
interior life. (Wilkins) One may argue that Mansfield works never romances the tragedies of modern
women, but rather sympathizes with the women she portrays as she suspends the happy ending.
The women at the store, describes the emotion of a lonely lower class woman with a young bratty
child and a mangy dog running the store. Two men named Jo and Jim ride up on the store
expressing their first impressions as the women being ugly. The men question her husband s
whereabouts, she is confused and changes the subject to avoid answering the question. One of the
men suggests she comes down to the paddock with tea, instead, she quickly responds I don t fancy
it. One may argue that her response indicates that she is not high class. Rather express the solitude
she endures every day. She exposes her night gown to the men in the motion of dropping the blanket
that was covering her. Giving the meaning she desires the

When a student completes their workstation task, they get to use the iPad. The students do
workstation twice a day. After workstation, gym, snack, story time, literacy, lunch and special
activity follows on Mondays. This is the typical schedule of the class. The special activity can
includes games or exercise activities that the students can participate in. Fridays are called Fun
Fridays because the students get to watch a movie at the end of the day. Also on Fridays, the
occupational therapist pushes in for 30 minutes. She collaborates on a variety of movement
activities which include students doing yoga and meditation. She begins with a warm up where
the students stretch. Then she plays music for the students to listen to and it helps the students to
know what the upcoming steps are. Behavioral problems the students display include throwing
themselves on the floor and throwing items. John exhibits these problems, and he also pushes his
work away or he will push the paraprofessional when he does not get his way or when he feels
defeated. Sara bites, slaps, kicks, and squeezes the hands of adults when they attempt to make her
do her work and all she wants to do is use the iPad and play with her PowerPuff doll. Josie hits
herself and bites her fingers when she desires something and she is not able to attain it. In addition,

Descriptive Essay On A Homeless Place
Knock, knock, knock. I gasp as my eyes spring open to find my surroundings foreign to me, and
scan the room for something familiar. The plant on the windowsill guides me back home. Three
and a half months ago, my long journey from Cinderwoods to Twisted City came to an end as I
crossed over the city limits. Unfortunate for me, it took another three weeks before I could move
in with Alice. Despite my fate, knowing I would spend an extra three weeks on the streets, I
remained optimistic and planned for my reunion with Alice. Being raised by benevolent parents,
I felt it necessary to bring a thank you gift along with me. However, what could a homeless girl
like myself buy? Over the course of the year, I had become accustomed to begging, scavenging,
and even bargaining. Gathering money wasn t my problem, choosing an appropriate gift was. A
few blocks from the compound I lived in, was a flower shop. One day as I passed by the shop,
something in the window caught my attention. Hidden within the forest of plants, resided a small,
neglected plant. However, its beauty exceeded the elegance of its siblings. The green of the leaves
matched Alice s eyes, and the single blue flower matched my own. Of course, the decision to
purchase this plant was simple, it needed freedom from its confinements just like I did, to bask in
the sunlight and indulge in the delicious air. With only enough money to purchase the plant, I would
need to find an alternative for a saucer. Maybe the shopkeeper
The Main Purpose Of Alcoholic Anonymous Essay
The main purpose of Alcoholic Anonymous (A.A.) is to help members keep an open mind on the
subject and can stay sober. Using the 12 steps designed by A.A. assists people to break through
their denial and to see the problems alcohol has caused in their lives. The Twelve Steps are the core
of A.A s program of recovery from alcoholism. They are based on the trial and error experience of
A.A s early members and have worked for millions of alcoholics since then. In recent years, there
are about 1.2 million people who belong to one of A.A. s 55,000 meeting groups in the United States.
On October 9 2016, after the clinical, I attended the A.A meeting located at St. Patrick s Roman
Catholic Church 9511 4th Ave Brooklyn. The open meeting started at 4pm and was held with
approximately 35 to 40 attendees for one hour. The room was located at the basement of the
building but it was clean, cozy and bright. There were many chairs and one big C shape desk in the
front so some people could be sitting around the table while most of people were sitting behind the
table. One interesting thing was that there was a person who translated the entire meeting in sign
language for the deaf so the meeting looked more formal and organized. Unlike my imagination that
people would have unkempt, addicting appearances, and borderline offensive hygiene, the majority
of the members had clean and nice looking, well kempt, and healthy appearances. As soon as we
entered the room, one woman welcomed us and
