The Beauty Myth Naomi Wolf
The Beauty Myth is a reading that talked about the standard that men decide is necessary to be
beautiful. Naomi Wolf shows us how as women have become more liberated the standards of what
makes a women considered beautiful have become stricter. Throughout her story Wolf shares with us
that beauty is completely subjective in that it changes with cultures and with age. Women were
actively gaining more legal and material rights through the women s movement. Wolf states, Many
women that women s collective progress has stalled; compared with the heady momentum of earlier
days, there is a dispiriting climate of confusion, division, cynicism, and above all, exhaustion. (10
p.2) As the movement had died down women were beginning to feel that effects
A Compare And Contrast Fats Research Paper
Compare and Contrast Fats Generally, the word shortening means any group of solid fats.
Shortenings generally consist of nearly 100 percent fat. It may be made from vegetable oils, animal
fats, or both. Shortenings are used for may purposes, so manufacturers have formulated various
kinds of fats with various properties. (Gisslen, 2013)
All Purpose Shortening
Also known as regular shortening, have a tough, waxy texture, and small particles of the fat tend to
hold their shape in a dough or batter. They are called plastic shortenings, which means they are
moldable at room temperature. They have a good creaming ability. Which means that a good
quantity of air can be mixed into them to give a batter lightness and leavening power. This type of
shortening melts only at a high temperature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are also used in many other pastries, breads, and products mixed by creaming, such as certain
pound cakes, cookies, and quick breads.
High Ratio Shortening
These are soft shortenings that spread easily throughout a batter and quickly coat the particles of
sugar and flour. The are call high ratio because they were devised for use in cake batter that contain
a high ratio of sugar and liquid to flour. They also contain added emulsifying agents, so they can hold
a larger quantity of liquid and sugar than regular shortenings. Which gives a smoother and finer
texture to cake and make them moister. Commonly referred to as emulsifying shortening.
High ratio shortening does not cream well. When a recipe calls for creaming shortening and sugar,
regular shortening should be used. High ratio shortening is often used in icings because it can hold
more sugar and liquid without curdling. It is more temperature stable and will hold air better upon
whipping, improving volume and stability.
Rumours, by Fleetwood Mac Essay
In 1977, when Fleetwood Mac released their multi platinum album Rumours, I was 4 years old
and far too young to appreciate music. As I entered my mid 20s, I had acquired a passion for
music of the 1970s and fell in love with the Eagles, Rush, Led Zeppelin, but most importantly,
Fleetwood Mac. Their music had become a part of me. It had developed into my personal therapeutic
outlet and helped to keep me sane during any emotional upheaval that I might have been
experiencing. It was then that I realized that the passionate, heartfelt music of Fleetwood Mac
captured the very being of my soul and I became entranced. At any point of the day, whether at home
or driving in my car, you could catch me listening to any one of their many albums.... Show more

There was not a single song on the album that did not come to life and cause all of us to relate to
every emotion within their songs. When listening to Go Your Own Way one hears the lyrics,
Loving you isn t the right thing to do. / How can I ever change things that I feel? / If I could baby
I d give you my world. / How can I when you won t take it from me? / You can go your own way,
go your own way. These lyrics capture your soul. They speak of the pain that accompanies the
demise of a relationship. On the other hand, Don t Stop provokes feelings of hope and optimism
instead of wallowing in the past. The entire playlist of Rumors causes lovers to reflect upon their
own past heartbreak and relate. The album s ability to make that kind impression on a person s
heart makes it phenomenal. We all desire to be able to relate to others and to feel understood. Once
we make that connection, it remains with us always.
Moreover, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, Rumours was certified
platinum in America and in the UK within months of its release ( RIAA: Gold Platinum ).
Furthermore, the album spent 31 weeks on top of the Billboard charts and won the Grammy award
Album of the Year in 1978 ( Christgau, Robert. Christgau s Record Guide ) ( Grammy Rewind ).
Additionally, as of this year, it is the 10th best selling album in US History ( Diamond Awards.

Plate Armour Essay
Armour for legs and feet Sabatons (first piece of armour to be put on, covering the knights feet),
Greaves (plate armour covering/protecting the calves and ankles), Poleyns (plate armour protecting
the knee cap), Cuisses (plate armour covering the thigh) and Spurs (attached to the heel of the foot
by straps and were used to spur the knights horse).
Armour for arms and hands Basagues (small round shields used to defend the armpit), Rerebrace

A commonly used helmet was the Bascinet because of its new and advanced features listed
above. Plate amour continued to grow in popularity during the 14 century however this meant its
price began to increase. Because of this a cheaper yet not as protective type of body armour
called the Coat of Plates was made which was a collection of plates (back and front) attached to a
cloth or garment. A series of new plate amour was also added, including a breast plate, Demi
greaves (shin guards), Sabatons (for the protection of the feet) and Vambraces (covering the
arms). Knights were now almost able to own a full set of plate armour. 15th Century: The 15th
century sparked the time when medieval armour reached its full potential. Full sets of armour
were now made, carefully covering every part of the body. The helmet further developed,
beginning to look more like a helmet we think of today, with a big T shaped opening at the front.
Plate armour began to become widespread and was used by many different countries such as
Germany and Italy. Because plate armour worked so well at protecting a knight, shields gradually

Poverty And Poverty In Ethiopia
The Ethiopia s economy is predominantly based on agriculture which accounts for 41% of GDP as
per 2010/11. About 29.6 percent of the population (as per 2010/2011) lives under the poverty line
which is the minimum level of income or expenditure deemed necessary to achieve minimum
requirements of life. Poverty in Ethiopia is more pronounced in rural areas as compared to the urban
areas ( http://www.eiiff.com/economy/ethiopia/poverty.html accessed on 3 December 2017). 30.4
percent of the populationin rural areas is poor whereas in urban areas it is 25.7 percent (MoFED,
2012).

Ethiopia s urban population has more than doubled in the past 20 years, from 7.3 million in 1994
to an estimated 16.7 million in 2014. The rates of population growth between the census periods of
1984 94 and 1994 2007 were 4.4 and 3.8 percent, respectively. Over the past 30 years, Ethiopia s
annual urban population growth rate has been higher than the average in Sub Saharan Africa (which
itself is among the fastest urbanizing regions in the world). While Addis Ababa remains the largest
urban area, other cities and towns have also grown rapidly (Ethiopia urbanization report, 2013). The
average household size is 4.7 persons, which is slightly slower than the average of 4.8 persons per
household reported in 2000. Urban households have fewer members than rural households (https:/
/www.unicef.org/ethiopia/ET accessed on 30 November 2017) In urban areas, the average
household size is 3.6 persons, compared
Roman Religion And The Roman Empire
The Roman Empire is one of the most well known countries in recorded history. And this is primarily
because it continues to awe people via it s architecture, military, art, philosophy, and technology. But
one of the greatest footprints Ancient Rome has left for us to study and admire is its culture. As in
any society, culture in the Roman Empirewas of great importance. The Romans had many beliefs,
behaviors, and customs, but one of the things that stood out the most in their culture was their
religion. Roman religion is no longer in practice (Scheid and Lloyd 1). However, the enthusiasm that
it s followers had still exists today. Ever since the time that Roman religion was just the religion of
one city in the Mediterranean region (Rüpke 3), people have always been marveled by the interesting
and spectacular uniqueness of Rome s religion that has survived throughout the decades of human
curiosity.
The Roman religion, as most other religions, was based entirely on the gods. Therefore, to
understand the Roman religion one has to understand the Roman beliefs concerning the gods. Out
of all the gods in the Roman religion, Jupiter was the most important one (Cavazzi). Jupiter was
the ruler of the gods and the major god of the Romans, and was known to hold thunderbolts which
he could use as a weapon from the sky (Cavazzi). Next to the most respected entity was Juno, or
the wife of Jupiter, she was known as the goddess of women and as the goddess of fertility
(Cavazzi). A
Social Culture Of The Pawnee Tribe
The Pawnee tribe is a Native American tribe that was originated from Nebraska and had very
unique cultural elements. The cultural elements I chose to go more indepth are Social
Organizations, Customs and Traditions, Language, and Religion of the Pawnee tribe. For the Social
Organizations I will discuss the social classes, and the political organization of the tribe. For
Customs and Traditions I will examine the rules of behavior, as well as the food they consumed. For
LanguageI will discuss the written and the unwritten language as well as the common language
with the other bands. Lastly I will talk about the Religion and go into more details on their rituals,
and their beliefs. I believe that the longevity of the tribe was directly related to the way they lived.
The social organization of the Pawneetribe consisted of the social class, and the political
organization. The Pawnee tribe was divided into four main bands the Chaui or the Great Band ,
the Kitkahahki or the Republican , the Pirahauerat or the Tappage and the Skiri or the Wolf
Pawnee . These four bands made up the political organization. The Chaui are generally recognized
as being the leading band although each band was autonomous, that is until outside pressures from
the Europeans and neighboring tribes saw the Pawnee drawing closer together. (Legends of
America) The Pawnee s social classes were set up in a series of hierarchical divisions. The highest
class consisted of chiefs followed by warriors,

The Influence Of Digital Media On The United States Army
The Influence of Digital Media on the United States Army Digital media has integrated itself into
nearly every facet of the modern United States Army. For many years, the Army has increased its
dependency on the use of digital media in day to day operations, training, communications, public
relations, and administrative tasks. Some people claim that we are too dependent on these
technologies for our own good. However, it has helped keep us the most powerful fighting force on
the face of the planet. This case study will look at five functional areas that digital media has
improved the Army: Administration, Training, Communication, Public Relations, and Warfighting
Capabilities. In each of these functional areas, we will explore how... Show more content on

This meant the signed copy then had to be scanned back into the computer and then emailed or
uploaded into a database. Of course, the original paper copy still existed, so the Army had not
met the goal of being paperless yet. Finally, around 2012 the Army acquired the technology that
included the digital signature that would allow them to truly go paperless. The technology had
existed for five years, but the Army s slow procurement and distribution process was one of the
many lessons learned: in the digital age, the Army had to move faster and be more flexible to
change. This paperless platform would allow the Army to overhaul all administrative systems. The
Publication Directorate stopped printing paper copies of manuals and regulations, and posted the
digital copies to an online library, where changes could easily be updated. Evaluations could be
completed online, signed online, and submitted online. Leave forms and award recommendations
could go from one user to approver with the click of a button across the world if needed. And
promotion boards no longer needed to flip through endless reams of paper to select candidates just
click through digital copies of a file for a potential promotion candidate. The Army is positioning
itself for the future by reducing the number of people it needs to do the administrative work of the
past and train the future administrators in computer applications for the future. A company 20 years
ago traditionally had two
