Staphylococcus Aureus ( Mrsa )
Introduction
Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram positive coccal bacterium which is estimated to have colonised 20
30% of the human population.1,2,3 S. aureus is normally found in the anterior nares and mucous
membranes of these individuals. For the majority, this is not a problem as these people are
colonised, not infected.2,3 However S. aureus is an opportunistic pathogen and if it contaminates a
breach in the skin or mucous membranes, it can go on to infect any tissue in the body.3 Infection
may lead to serious life threatening diseases such as pneumonia.4 Over time strains of S. aureus
were able to develop resistance to antibiotics, resulting in strains known as methicillin resistant
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
1.1 A brief history
Before the discovery of penicillin, infection with S. aureus had a fatality rate of approximately 70%.
After penicillins discovery and development, treatment of S. aureus infections became routine
resulting in the death rate falling to 25%.5 However, penicillin use provided an inadvertent selection
pressure which resulted in the bacteria mutating and becoming resistant to its effects. The penicillin
resistant S. aureus strains produced enzymes known as penicillinases which break penicillin down.
In 1959, the antibiotic methicillin was developed to battle penicillin resistant S. aureus infections. At
first it was effective, but with increasing use of methicillin S. aureus once again acquired resistance
through the process of natural selection
The Issue Of Team Self Management Essay
Literature Review: Self Management
The issue of team self management is one of great interest in today s complex environment, it seems
many businesses are restructuring themselves in an attempt to modernize and stay relevant. Some of
the most successful organizations in modern times were nothing more than an idea a decade or two
ago, with names like Facebook and Zappos. Part of this successful startup culture includes
decentralization of decision making, often leading to a more flexible and employee friendly work
environment. More traditional organizations are taking note of this trend and studying it or
implementing it themselves.
Other common terms for the idea of organizational decentralization include: team self management,
self management, shared control, distributed leadership (Lambe, Webb, Ishida, 2009) and holacracy
(Robertson, 2007). While these terms may have small differences they all describe the common
theme of distributing power across organizations. Several concepts help to explain why
decentralization and the encouragement of teamwork throughout an organization are often superior
to traditional management structure.
Many types of studies have been conducted and share the common outcome that performance is
often better within the workplace when outcomes are judged as a team rather than specific
individuals. Additional studies have been shown than teams are more likely to come up with
effective and necessary management tactics than appointing a
Pros And Cons Of Coal
Many places are known for many things, and West Virginia is known for its coal. As much as a
television remote needs batteries, West Virginia needed coal in its early statehood. Coal has
recently been the subject of chaos in many circles around the state. Many believe we should bleed,
breathe, and breed coal. While others realize that coal is dangerous and is on its way out the door.
As everything else in the world coal has its Pro s and Con s. For example, coal is a cheaper
alternative to creating heat which maintains electricity. Though you may pollute the air with a high
concentrate of sulfur in which coal releases. As for me, I believe coal is on its deathbed and
rightfully so. Coal has taken far too many lives, such, as young men, grandfathers,... Show more

Many miners believe that in 2001 coal regulation took a turn for the worst. Instead of the state
inspectors coming to give the mines plaques for various achievements such as employee not
being hurt, they come now to fine and attempt to shut down these mines. According to a set group
of individuals, the reason for this is, the UMWA now only covers around 15% of all miners. With
the lost revenue, the UMW is now targeting these mines. The response, giving by the UMW is far
too many lives have been claimed due to negligence s and they are tired of hearing stories like this:
Over the years, these mines have produced the wages for many a coal miner to buy his daughter a
doll house at Christmas, a new family car or a trip to Florida during a miners vacation, such as my
father had first done for our family in 1949. They also took their share of coal miners lives. My own
grandfather was one of those who was taken early in life when he was killed in a rock fall at the No.
6 mines in 1936 when my dad was just a boy. The grim statistics of those lost lives have helped
forge new mine safety laws which have saved countless others.
For that reason, I believe coal is dead for good. The biggest clue we have is that the states that
rely on coal heavily are now in debt. For many states, they look at the national debt, yet we are in a
crisis of our own. This is evident by our recent 300+ million dollar budget cut. Even with plans such
as the rainy day funds

Friday Night Lights
Is High School football a sport, or is it more than that to some people? Recent newspaper headlines
include such items as coaches abusing student athletes; fathers of athletes murdering coaches, and

The Theory Of The Natural Sciences
Knowledge, to me, can be defined as information that has been verified, either by self or by the
group and is something that we know and believe. Information on the other hand is not necessarily
known by us as individuals, but nevertheless, it does exist. The sum of all information is therefore
our total potential knowledge. This prescribed title not only implies that the only knowledge
possible is shared knowledge , but that knowledge itself is impossible for an individual to attain.
This in turn discounts hunches, suspicions and theories which are all seen as being forms of
personal knowledge . This title must be used in context for it to hold meaning. In context of the
natural sciences, this title holds true as greater society is not so naive as to believe as fact the
thoughts of a single man. But when the thoughts and ideas of a single man are put through a tried
and tested method, such as the scientific method, tests are carried out, criticism is allowed and
improvement is made, only then, with the relative evidence to back up this solitary man s claim,
do we, the group, begin to accept his claim as knowledge . On the other hand, knowledge of what
we deem ethical and morally right, whilst we can gain this from interaction with the group, is not
typically verified by the group, but rather is verified by ourselves, within our own heads. An
important question to ask in conjunction with the prescribed title is How does knowledge creation
differ between areas of
The Career Choice Of Video Editing
I am a guy that likes a lot of different things and I could never just pick one thing that I liked the
most. That is why it was extremely hard for me to choose what I would like to be, I thought long
and hard about what were my favorite thing to do I felt like high school for me was like a big
whirlpool of me trying to figure out what was OK for me to do. (Donald Glover). I came across
two things which were watching movies and listing to music so I chose video editing to be my
main career choice because video editing has to do with the film and audio Why, if someone is
good in one field can they not be accepted or given the slightest opportunity to express and be
creative in other fields? (Kanye West), to me I feel like I could put my creativity in to this carer
and really enjoy what I am doing Sometimes it s the journey that teaches you a lot about your
destination. (Aubrey Drake Graham) . I usually like working with others so we can put our ideas
together and create something that is unique and has different flavors of ideas. I have always
liked seeing what great things I could create with people who think like me and people who think
nothing like me. Ever since I was young I always wanted to be something useful in life like
helping someone or saving someone. I had always dreamed of becoming a neural surgeon or a
fireman even paleontologist. Now that I have matured a bit more, I have now realized that I don t
want to be any of those things. I also don t want to be
The Problem With Today s Police
Is there really a problem with today s police? When the U.S. retreated back several years ago from
waging constant battles in Iraq and Afghanistan, the mindset of war continues to remain unchanged.
The current administration now hands out military surplus gear left and right, gearing local police
officers to wage war in the neighborhood of America s residents. Officers looked ready to fight a
war, when donning their new policeuniforms with a discreet black or camouflage pattern along with
the latest and greatest military advancements in weapons and tactics. The level of tactical superiority
provides only short term relief to the situation, but on the contrary creates a significant amount of
long term problems in deteriorating public support of police. Through the public support of ending
the 1033 program, change the culture of the police, and the need of community centered training.
These steps guarantee the disseverment of police militarization due to the duty of the citizen to take
the law into their own hand and account. The major solution in solving the case of police
militarization deals directly with the current mindset of the citizen. The need for ending the 1033
program, which grants police department numerous military grade equipment from transportation
vehicle, camouflage clothing, and firearms. There calls for public support for the matter in ending
the program and returning the equipment to the state and recycle the material for different uses. The
removal of
