Who Is Bartleby The Scrivener
The narrator in Melville s short story, Bartleby the Scrivener is put in a tough position as he hires
a new scrivener, Bartleby. I sympathize more with the narrator as he is simply trying to go about
his job while Bartleby s troubled state and disobedience proves to he a hassle. Initially, Bartleby
produced extraordinary work but then slowly declined to producing nothing. Being a scrivener
proved a exhausting and demanding job but when asked to look over copies Bartleby would
reply that he prefers not to . Most bosses in the position of the narrator would simply fire Bartleby
but the narrator simply stops asking Bartleby to do any work as he cares about Bartleby s well
being. When the narrator finds Bartleby living in the office he says, My first emotions had been
those of pure melancholy and sincerest pity.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being the kind person that he is, the narrator was ready to offer Bartleby a place in his home but
Bartleby simply replied that he preferred not to . Therefore, in order to protect his reputation, the
narrator had to move offices and Bartleby was taken to the tombs. In order to protect Bartleby the
narrator left him money as well ensured he would get food in prison. I sympathize with the
narrator as he was ready to care for someone who needed his help and worked to understand
Bartleby s needs throughout the story. The narrator in the story seems to be a character of good
moral and works hard to be a good boss. He appears to be someone who is benevolent and acts out of
self interest to treat his employees
A Hero Is An Epic Hero
A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of
overwhelming obstacles (Reeve, Christopher). Every culture in country across the world has their
own ideals for what a proper hero should be. Most will say a hero must have these core values
compassion, bravery, strength, humility, and integrity. However a person does not always have to
possess they traits to be considered a hero. An example of this is an epic hero, these heroes only
exist in stories and generally do not possess all of the normal hero qualities. No person could ever
be considered an epic hero, due to the complex requirements of one.
Epic heroes are born from tales of great journeys and overcoming the unimaginable. They fight off ...

Most people when asked who their personnel hero is they name a family member. This is because
a parent s natural instinct is to protect their children and put their needs first. This trait is not just
in humans, in most species this is the case. The reason of this being that the most common
definition of a hero is someone who puts others before themselves. Parents tend to do this without
thinking twice about it. Although parents aren t saving hundreds of lives they are still considered
heroes. Literally anyone can be a hero in today s society. A hero can simply be a person that is
strongly admired and looked up to.. Heroes are the everyday role models of society. They create a
path for others to follow and help them along the way. Having an affect on another human being s
life in any kind of positive way is a beautiful thing and we as a society should cherish the people who
help us become all that we were meant to be.
Every person has a different image pop up in their head when they think about what a hero is.
With a vast amount of reasons for why someone should be qualified as a hero. Most people
choose a person who makes them believe they are capable of anything just by what they could
accomplish. A hero should be someone you look up to and are impressed by all they have and can
do. That is why my hero is Deborah Speer (my mom), her accomplishments inspire me everyday.

Minotaur Hero s Journey
The Minotaur, half man half bull, lived in Crete. Trapped in a labyrinth, constructed by the great
Daedalus, the king of Crete, King Minos, demanded a tribute of seven boys and seven girls from
Athens to satisfy the Minotaur s savage hunger. But one year, Minos was deceived, for a new
hero arose, Theseus, son of Aegeus, Prince of Athens. He won over the heart of Minos s daughter,
Ariadne, and used her ball of string to venture into the labyrinth to slay the Minotaur. After a hard
fought grapple within the lair of the minotaur, the beast fell to the sword of Aegeus, which
Theseus had smuggled into the maze. Using the string, he found his way back out. The Labyrinth
went underground, void of life, never to be seen again. Almost one thousand years later, after
eons of peace in Greece, a new prophecy arose. The Oracle uttered the Great Prophecy, an omen
of the future, for no other could see the future like it. A Man s Spirit, A Bull s Body. Slain in its
own lair For the Monster still dwells beneath the ground Ever waiting, ever watching For this life is

In the secluded forests, the towering mountains and the reaching depths of the sea, it was a prime
location for monstrous activity. Their mission was to decode the prophecy, and stop the End that
the prophecy foretold. The scientists donned the mark of the Omega, and work tireless nights to
solve the problem. There were to logical solutions, no logic left in this world, only guesses hoping
to be able to determine even a slight connection to a monster. There was a missing piece, there had
to be, a single piece of information that could suddenly make everything clear. And so they waited,

Symbolism In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market
Goblin Market tells the story of two devoted young sisters, Laura and Lizzie. Goblin men curse one
sister after offering her special fruit, and the other sister must face the goblin men to save her sister
from certain death (Rossetti 1 567). Poet Christina Rossetti employs a significant amount of
symbolism in her work, Goblin Market. Examples of symbols used in the poem include fruit, Lizzie,
goblinmen, and money.
First, fruit is a symbol in Goblin Market. At the beginning of the poem, the goblin men advertise the
fruits they are selling:
Come buy our orchard fruits,
Come buy, come buy:
Apples and quinces,
Lemons and oranges,
Plump unpecked cherries,
Melons and raspberries... (Rossetti lines 3 8)
Laura is seduced into purchasing these fruits from the goblin men. She sucked and sucked and
sucked the more/ Fruits which that unknown orchard bore;/ She sucked until her lips were sore
(Rossetti 134 136). I believe that the fruit is a symbol for sin. Laura knows that she should not be
indulging in the forbidden fruit, but her desire for the fruit prevails over her caution of the goblin
men (Rossetti 69 106). Lizzie warns her from listening to the goblin men (Rossetti lines 48 49). Just
as Eve in the Bible eats the forbidden fruit, Laura eats the fruit as well. Eve becomes cursed because
she eats the forbidden fruit, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You have much gold upon your head, / They answered all together:/ Buy from us with a golden
curl (Rossetti 123 125). I believe that the money is a symbol for a loss of innocence. Once she
pays for the fruit and consumes it, she becomes sick (Rossetti 293 298). When Laura goes to save
her sister, she offers the goblin men a coin; however, they do not take it because she does not want
to buy the fruit willingly (Rossetti
The Democracy of the Market
The democracy of the market is no more the democracy that Plato spoke off in his Republic (c.
370 BC) as a charming form of government, full of variety and disorder, and dispensing a kind of
equality to equals and unequal alike, or Aristotle in his hyperbole (c. 322 BC) condemn as when put
to the strain, grows weak, and is supplanted by oligarchy. Also which George Bernard Shaw taxed in
his Maxims for Revolutionists (1903) as substituting election by the incompetent many for
appointment by the corrupt few, not that, Hans Hermann Hoppe reveal in his democracyThe God
That Failed (Transaction, 2001, p. 96) that majorities of have nots will relentlessly try to enrich
themselves at the expense of the haves . Look how Ludwig Mises light up a near remote yet
strongly impressive daily democracy. In addition, to give a relevance to this topic, defining
framework within which present mainstream democracy is contained and hundreds of items and
books written on democracy and almost nearly all speculate a western style system which is a
harmonious relationship between markets and democratic system. This brings to, confined
functionalist point of view of democracy which overlook strong material and hegemonic forces that
serve to undermine democracy and most importantly theory of people power.

Unit 2 Scene 1 Preliminary Investigation
Scene One: Preliminary Investigation Secure Scene and Assist Victim Due the victim being
dead, the first step I would take in this case is a perimeter search. I would probably secure a larger
area than I need because I can always shrink the perimeter once I begin processing. The second
step I would do is once I found the perimeter, I would secure that boundary. And add police
officers in various sides on the outside of the perimeter to help keep people away and sabotaging
any evidence. In my head, I would do a walk though of the scene to determine the possible strategy
or motive. Preliminary Interview Focus The first people I would question would be the group that
discovered the body. I would interview them separate and keep them separate, to get the most
accurate statements. I would either keep them in separate rooms, or keep them far away from one
another in which they cannot hear each other and get influenced on what to say. I... Show more

Which means that they weren t very careful, and or didn t know what they were doing. I say this
because whoever the perpetrator is was not very careful of what he was doing or leaving behind.
For example, The uniform officers discovered a cell phone and set of keys in some deep grass
about 10 yards from the body. The keys have trace blood and a strand of black hairs clinging to
them. It seems like they were in rush to dump the body and leave or were afraid and wants to rush
off the scene. Despite whatever the case maybe I believe there were two perpetrators because
there is no sign of struggle or dragging of the victim which mean she was carried and placed. The
two sets of footprint also give me a general state of mind that my theory might be right. The killer
had his fun play before killing the victim, I believe that there was some type of assault. The gun
shot had partially blackened residue which leads me to believe that it was a close range gunshot
Football Vs Basketball Compare And Contrast
Sports have been played for centuries around the world. Two of the most admired sports are
football and basketball. They are especially popular in America; football is ranked the most
popular, and basketball is ranked the third most popular. Football became a sport in the United states
in 1869; however, basketballwas not a sportin the United statesuntil 1891. Both basketball and
football are considered to be team sports. While football and basketball have their similarities,
football has a longer playing time, has more people playing with protective equipment, and is
played outdoors with a smaller ball on a larger field. When observing the differences between
football and basketball, one cannot help but notice the differences in playing time. Football games at
the professional and college level go on for sixty minutes. They have two, thirty minute halves or
four, fifteen minute quarters. On the other hand, basketball at the professional level goes on for forty
eight minutes, and at the college level, forty minutes. College basketball has only two, twenty minute
halves. Professional basketball has four, twelve minute quarters. Football playing times at both the
professional and college level are longer than those of basketball.... Show more content on

Since basketball and football are team sports, they have various people playing at once. Football
has eleven players on the field at a time. Because football is a full contact sport, most football
players must wear certain protective equipment. A football player s protective gear includes
things such as a helmet, shoulder pads, gloves, cleats, a mouthguard, and a jockstrap. To the
contrary, basketball has only five players on the court at a time. Basketball players also do not need
protective gear since it is considered to be a non contact sport; however, protective gear such as knee
pads, elbow pads, or a mouth guard is
Conspiracy Theories And Theories Of Life And Everything
There s many different opinions and theories to life and everything in it. The question is, which
of them are real? Conspiracy theories have been around since the early 1790 s and never have
really gone out of style since then. There are many different stories, videos and articles about
conspiracy theories, all of which really make one think. One of the most shocking conspiracy
theories came around 1972, a little after NASA had conducted the first moon landing. Many people
believed that this moon landing was fake and it was all set up with green screens and different props
( Conspiracy Theories ). Along with endless amounts of conspiracy theories comes the most
controversial conspiracy theoryof them all. The Mandela Effect all started when many people
remembered Nelson Mandela passing away when he was in prison for over twenty seven years,
when really he died just a few years ago in 2013. After this theory was sought out, more and more
people began noticing things that they misremember, whether it is a small detail in a movie, a
misspelling on a book, or even an event that they remember happening differently. To most people,
conspiracy theories are nothing more than a hoax; however, there are many facts and figures to
prove these theories. Along with the NASA conspiracy theory, there were a few other major
conspiracy theories at the time. In 1963, when president John F. Kennedywas assassinated, a
conspiracy theory came out stating that Oswald was not the only one involved
History Of Iran
Iran: Known as Persia Until 1935
Iran became an Islamic republic in 1979 after the ruling monarchy was overthrown and Shah
Mohammad Reza PAHLAVI was forced into exile (World Factbook, 2014). The Islamic Republic
of Iran is one of those interesting countries that most everyone thinks is solely an enormous desert,
but in reality it is a whole lot more than just a desert where nobody lives. Iran is important when it
comes to the definition of a culture, physical geography and military conflict history, weather
analysis, civil considerations, and people.
Culture plays a big role when it comes to visiting countries. Everything that a society should consist
of is included in the culture. According to Merriam Webster s Dictionary, culture is... Show more

The communication aspect is slowly improving. The urban areas have pretty good lines of
communication through telephones, cellular devices and internet. They are trying to expand
these services from the urban areas all the way out to the small villages. Iran was involved in the
Persian Gulf War that ended in over one million casualties total in the eight years it lasted. It was
agreed that Iran would be the passageway for Iraq to the gulf. Iran is currently involved with the
Islamic State Conflict in Iraq. Since the summer of 2014, Iran has launched air strikes against the
Islamic State in Iraq. Iran also has soldiers of their own in Iraq fighting the Islamic State. The
weather and physical geography of Iran go hand in hand.
Weather in the Islamic Republic of Iran is considered to have a variable climate. It is in the
Middle Eastern desert. Iran is known to have long hot summers, and short cold winters. One can
expect to see high humidity in certain parts of the country. Moderate rainfall throughout the year
is very common for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Some places can receive up to 100 centimeters
of rainfall a year. Iran has many rainforests and jungles in the Northern part of the country, as stated
above. The weather can make for a very difficult time to move across Iran in the heat of the day on
foot. Military personnel will have the most difficulty most across open
Essay Billie Holiday
Many jazz artists as we know it are quite talented. Their talents are unique in that they can translate
human emotion through singing or playing their instruments. Many have the ability to reach and
touch people s souls through their amazing gifts. Although this art of turning notes and lyrics into
emotional imagery may somewhat come natural, the audience must wonder where their influence
comes from. For Billie Holiday, her career was highly influenced by personal experience, the effects
of the Great Depression, and the racial challenges of African Americans during her time.
The Great Depression was a major historical event that affected thousands of Americans during the
1930s. It was a time in which economic decline left people without ... Show more content on

These first lines in the song portrays the longing and loneliness she felt. Further into the song she
sings, Soft winds blowing through the pinewood trees, folks down there live a life of ease. Here,
Billie sings about life down south and refers to Baltimore where she grew up. The soft winds
blowing through the pinewood trees can be construed as Baltimore. Folks down there live a life of
ease, compares the difficulties she endures in Harlem to the care free life somewhere else.
In 1933, during Billie Holiday s early years of her career, The Depression was now underway. The
few playing gigs in the music industry were taken by whites, and blacks faced insurmountable
odds. . . against achieving any sort of recognition without help. (Jackson, pg. 86) Billie stopped
working as a prostitute and began singing at night clubs and speakeasies in Harlem. The New York
nightlife is where John Hammond would discover her. He introduced her to many prestigious jazz
musicians and promoted her unparallel sound. Billie Holiday played on the radio where she
became recognized as a female singer within the jazz industry. Without the help of John Hammond,
Billie may not have had a chance as a singer. He is widely credited with having discovered many of
these artists, and while the use of that ambiguous word
Seamus Heaney Conflict
While great wars, murders, and crimes continue to pervade our society today, the atrocities of the
past seem to loom over these in the present and reopen years old wounds that threaten to turn into
scars. This is especially true of the Northern Ireland conflict. Although a timeline may tell a person
that the conflict lasted from the 1960 s to 1998, supposedly ending with the Good Friday Agreement,
the turmoil and healing in Northern Irelandis nowhere near its finality. Seamus Heaney, an Irish
poet born a mere 20 years before the conflict began, was deeply affected by the conflict and the
impact it had on himself and his family. Many of Heaney s poems reflect upon the Troubles ,
which no doubt influenced many of his other pieces, but generally did not make any explicitly
aggressive statements of a political nature toward the Northern Ireland conflict or other incidents;
he merely saw himself as a poet who reflected on what he witnessed and lived through. However,
Heaney himself stated that All of us probably had some notion that a good poem was a paradigm
of good politics , a site of energy and tension and possibility, a truth telling arena... (Jensen 18). He
believed that there was an element of politics involved with writing poetry. However, he
continued to say it was not a killing field (18). In other words, he did not believe that it was his
duty as a poet to be political. His own words defied him in the writing of one of his poems
Punishment , which is about the
Aristophanes Is The Father Of Old Comedy
Aristophanes is the father of old comedy (K.J Dover). Cicero speaks of him as the most facetious
poet of the old comedy . Aristophanes wrote in a specific genre of literature that Vector Ehrenberg
named Old Attic Comedy (1) which was composed and performed in Athens during the fifth and
fourth centuries BC. The exact beginning of the Attic Comedy(1) is scarcely known but the word
comedy is derived from a Greek word komodia that means singing and dancing. In the introduction to
Aristophanes3, Ralph M. Rosen has explained the origin of this word: Komodia means a komos
song where the komos refers to a group of men, often costumed, who entertained audiences with
song and dance at various festive occasions (9). He seems to have been the first to transform
comedy, which was still wondering erratically in its early stages of development, into something
more morally serious and worthwhile (23).
Aristophanes extant comedies are a social, political and literal rendering. Although tragedy was also
performed at that time, it does not tell us about socio political matters because of its formal structure
and extravagant diction. Comedy performed that function conveniently. Rosen indicates comic
diction was far less formal and stylized than tragedy. Old comedy, therefore, could reflect ... Show

During 405 BC, Athens was demoralized by the effect of war, and democracy had taken birth in
their society. Peloponnesian war was an ongoing issue and Athenian people had lost their heroes
such as Pericles. Among his eleven surviving comedies The Frogs was basically concerned with
morality and amalgamation of subtle lyricism and crude lewdness. Comedy is flexible genre and
has ability to mold the situation and events to show the other side of reality. Comedy allows to
cross the limits and to see the picture with entirely different angle. The Frogs is a reflection of

Normative Development
In the latter part of the 19th century, psychology began to separate from its previous philosophical
standing, emerging more as a scientific discipline. Abstract laws were devised, and objective and
quantitative measurements of isolated variables analysed. Theories of development emerged and
have continued throughout history, providing organization, and a lens through which researchers
can interpret and explain any number of specific facts or observations (Sigelman amp; Rider, 2012,
p. 32). In postulating what is seen as normative development, these theories provide a model or map
from which scienceand society are largely influenced.
Normative development implies an individual will grow, experience and behave in a similar manner

The revolutionary thinking of Sigmund Freud and his psychoanalytic approach of the early 1900 s
challenged existing human nature and development and inspired offshoot theories that continue to
be applicable to healthy development in modern day society. Bandura s social cognitive theory, for
example, was devised in response to Freud s philosophy regarding the conscience (Peterson, 2010).
Bandura s theory asserts that individuals will behave similarly across the lifespan through modelling
or imitation. This behaviourist based theory explains human behaviour in terms of a reciprocal
interaction between cognitive, behavioural and environmental factors (Sharf, 2012). In observing
other people, the learner pays attention to and perceives the other model, constructs and remembers
the behaviour, and retrieves and reproduces this behaviour subsequently, dependent on motivating
factors (Archer amp; McCarthy 2007). An individual is said to be motivated internally, as in
achieving a personal goal, or vicariously, when the learner observes the consequences of the
behaviour in the model.
In his parameters for healthy development, Bandura gives no credibility to collective stages, rather
offers the process as being gradual and continuous in a generation of learning (Sigelman amp; Rider,
2012). Principles of learning can be seen to operate throughout life, and can be used to describe
