East Of Eden Literary Analysis
In East of Eden, John Steinbeck reinforces the theme of timshel thou mayest by paradoxically
showing how characters fail to face their fates. These characters are seemingly preordained to
follow a certain path as they each fall prey to fate. With every darkening failure in the story, there
becomes a brighter hope that someone will break the cycle of sin by choosing to live freely.
Charles and Adam Trask are unmistakably bound to the story of Cain and Abel. Through their names
and their actions, Steinbeck shows how these two brothers fail to control fate. They follow the
story of giving gifts to their father with Charles being rejected and Adam accepted. When they
inevitably clash, Charles is filled with a Rage...and then a coldness, a possession of his will that
forces him to follow his fate to try to kill Adam (30). Steinbeck plainly shows that Charles
succumbs to fate. He becomes alone and scarred much in the way Cain is exiled and marked.
Adam s adherence to fate goes beyond just his relation with his brother. He consciously follows the
biblical story of Adam when he means to make a garden of [his] land ... Show more content on

It was Steinbeck s belief that Cathy Ames was born with the tendencies, or lack of them, which
drove and forced her all of her life (72). Cathy is portrayed as a monster that lacks something very
important to being human. This stark description of Cathy to an embodiment of evil and sin seems
to show that she had no choice in what she became, but this conflicts with the idea of timshel. In a
final act of desperation against fate, Cathy realizes that she missed something, and so she grew
smaller and smaller and...disappeared in regret for what she had done (554). Cathy takes control
over her fate by stopping herself from committing more sin. Although Cathy was a monster , it s
hard not to pity her inability to face fate any other way than
Porphyria s Lover Diction
I found a thing to do, and all her hair in one long yellow string wound three times her little throat
around, and strangled her. (line 37) A beautiful young woman is killed in the woods by a man she
had been seeing secretly. The killer is quite sure that there is nothing wrong with what he did. This is
the scenario that Robert Browninghas built for his readers. How can these crazy things be
understood? What are we supposed to learn about the killer in this poem, and how does Browning
show us these things? In the poem Porphyria s Lover, Robert Browning uses careful diction and
contrast to show that The Speaker in the poem yearns for control over his life. Browning uses
diction describing porphyria as angelic to stress her majestic qualities to the reader. She is capable
of making all the cottage warm and can prevent any cold or storm from coming in. She has nice
cloths, long golden hair, a white shoulder and white skin. She is clearly... Show more content on

The lake is tormented by an early storm. The speakers says: The rain set early in tonight, the
sullen wind was soon awake, it tore the elm tops down for spite, and did its worst to vex the lake.
(line 1) With the wind as spiteful and vexing it is easy to see that Browning is setting up a
pathetic fallacy, all with the simple choice of words. This pathetic fallacy is also found at the
very end of the poem as well though, although it can be noted in its absence. With lover in hand,
our speaker no longer notices the weather outside. He sees not God s attempt to prevent Porphyria
from going to the cottage in the first place, but only his current power over her. This disparity is
clear only to the reader, showing us that although Browning wishes to show us what would drive a
man to kill his lover, he does not advocate such
The Importance Of Superheroes
There are many vital roles superheroes play in people s lives all around the world. Superheroes are
iconic, fictional characters that carry superhuman powers and abilities and typically saves the world
from evil villains. Society highly values superheroes because they have extraordinary powers and
traits, a strong moral code, sense of responsibilities, distinctive costumes, a lair, a large quantity of
enemies, and many more interesting characteristics. People admire or idolize superheroes because
they obtain feelings that connect to their alter ego life problems such as financial stress, family
losses, and etc. in which relate to the basic, everyday struggles that normal humans face. Superheroes
became an eminent part of popular cultureas they became role model figures for children, American
society became obsessed with fictional characters, and the evolution or how they came to be in
the industry of movies, cartoons, and comics. Superheroes give children a perfect, utopian,
fantasy life and a heroic figure to look up to. Children look up to superheroes because they fight
evil villains also known as the antagonist, which make them so popular. Superheroes teach that
power does not corrupt if one uses it wisely. For instance; they take on bad guys in order to save
and make good choices for the world. As a kid or in one s childhood, it is important to be risk
taking and adventuresome and superheroes play a major role in their lives because of this. In order
to get away from reality, superheroes widen or bolster children s creativity and imaginations by
allowing them to have a fictional life or identity. They give children the opportunity to envision life
as a superheroand having power to do remarkable duties. Superhero movies and cartoons are both
very parental approved and age appropriate which is why they are family friendly recommended.
They teach the youth morals and values because they respect the superhero qualities that not only
children, but everyone should embody. Superheroes are popular today because they teach kids life
learning lessons in a fun, captivating way. American society has gained a superhero craze because
they make the best choices that real humans are not capable of.
Songs Of Innocence And Experience By William Blake
William Blake was an English poet and printmaker in the late 18th and early 19th centuries,
specially renowned for his poems published in a series titled Songs of Innocence (1889) and Songs
of Experience (1894) ( William Blake. ). Although in his lifetime he was considered mad by British
society and his works were neglected, today, Blake is regarded as one of the original Romantic poets
(G.E Bentley). Furthermore, his works reflect the transition between the Augustan period and the
Romantic one; a time of rediscovery, inquiry, and individuality. The evolution that gravitated away
from the Augustan era (18th century) ( Augustan Literature. ). was very much characterized by the
political and economic changes in Great Britain; in addition, the... Show more content on

Similar to Blake s Songs of Innocence and Experience, the poems selected in themselves consist of
differences in the manner human life is evaluated on earth. William Blake s The Echoing Green ,
published in Songs of Innocence, conveys the ultimate effect that old age and maturation has on
human happiness, and the innocent voice of childhood undisputed by the experienced voice of a
veteran. Moreover, Blake further enhances the importance of human growth by alluding to the
correlation between human life and the renaissance of nature, and develops the theme of Nature and
its similarity with the human life cycle. In contrast, London , published in Songs of Experience,
presents a different calculation of human life. The restricted manner in which the individual leads
their life under urbanization directly impacts their satisfaction; the lack of communion with nature
and pureness enhances the sense of misery in the midst of a city. Furthermore, the similar literary
devices used in contrary poems will be examined in how different messages are conveyed but
ultimately allude to a mutual theme: the negative effects that industrialization has on human life, as
it is directly related to nature. It is important to note that although Blake praises nature for its purity
and nurturing, he
Essay on Meet The Simpsons
Meet the Simpsons
Over time, the definition of what exactly quot;family quot; means has changed with time. Usually,
what constitutes making up a family is relative to a specific culture, but as always, there are
exceptions to the rule. Ever since the golden age of television had sprung upon American culture,
television has tried to mimic the quot;ideal quot; American family through it s programming. Even
as early as the 1950 s, television producers made programming that would represent what exactly the
ideal American family was.
Take for example the show quot;Leave It to Beaver quot;. While I am not going to go in detail about
each character, I am going to summarize the family structure and the ... Show more content on

Also according to the consensus, the average married couple has approximately 2.6 children per
household (U.S.
Consensus, Household Characteristics p.1). Since there cannot be six tenths of a child, I will round
up to three children, in which the Simpson family has: Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Also, the average
American is a blue collar worker. The father figure, Homer, meets this factor with his job at the
nuclear power plant within his hometown of Springfield. So according to the statistics, the Simpson
family could be considered an average American family.
In the next part of the essay, I will look at each individual character of the Simpson family, and try
to relate how that individual could be considered a typical American. I attempt to avoid using
stereotypes, but nothing is full proof. I will look at some of the character s traits and try to relate
how that is a parody of an American.
First, I will begin with discussing the character of Homer Simpson. As you might know, Homer is
the father figure of the household, whose responsibilities include financially supporting the
household, since he is the household s primary source of income. He has his flaws like any person
would, but somehow he and his family tend to work it out. Some of his mishaps are very similar to
those that most of us have had to face. For example, he leaves the keys in his door to the house quite
often (Hall, quot;The
Homer File quot; p. 2). Another example, would
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Gaming Laptops
As a general rule, gaming laptops are not cheap, they are usually the most expensive laptops you
can purchase. If you go with a fully loaded high end gaming machine from the popular brand name
makers you will likely have to dish out 4 to 6 grand for the top rigs.

However, since all laptop prices have been falling at a steady rate in recent years, if you shop around
you can find a half decent gaming laptop at a reasonable price. Here we re still talking about $1500
to $2500 for a good quality gaming laptop. Although there are probably cheaper ones to be found if
you look in the right places.

Now, the main reason gaming laptops are so expensive is because of the high end components and
high end specs that s needed to produce a superior gaming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Supportive Employment
The Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1986 was a revision and extension of the Rehabilitation Act
of 1973 that was then further revised in 1992. The main purpose of this revision was to define and
establish supportive employment as a replacement for the previous practice of sheltered workshops.
Supportive employment is competitive work in an integrated setting that aligns with the strengths,
priorities, abilities, and interests of individuals being employed. This type of employment enacted
the service of assisting people with disabilities finding, obtaining, and maintaining employment
(King and Olson, 2014). The three main elements of supportive employment are (1) paid work of
more than 20 hours per week; (2) placement in employment where no more than eight other
employees with disabilities; (3) twice monthly follow along assessment of the employee in their
place of employment (Shafer, Tait, Keen, and Jeisolowski, 1989). The amendment provided grants to
fund supportive employment special projects and programs to help state agencies establish and
implement supportive employment (Shafer et al. 1989). The increase in... Show more content on

This contributed to the increase of vocational education with the goal of being incorporated into the
workforce (NLIHC 2014). Occupational therapy played a vital role in the preparation of clients for
work based rehabilitation due to the focus of occupational therapy. According to the Occupational
Therapists in mental health, school setting, and rehabilitation settings all promote work as an
important goal in the occupational intervention plan (King Olson, 2014). An additional outcome, and
possibly one of the most significant, is the fact that the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1986
initiated the ideas and practices that developed into Occupational therapists becoming a advocates
