The Effects Of Media On Body Dissatisfaction Of Young...
The media is an important aspect of the current society and is ever present to the public. With the
creation of new technology, there are more and more ways the media can be received and
displayed for people to see everywhere they go. There are so many media sights nowadays such
as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, as well as new magazines, commercials and other media
publications made every day that allow people to connect to current events and new trends.
Although today s media has the potential to have a positive or negative impact on the lives of the
people, there have been many controversial debates on the impact of the media on the body
dissatisfaction of young girls and adolescents. Body dissatisfaction can be described as the
negative self evaluation of one s own appearance and to be more physically attractive, and is fairly
common in young girls and adolescents. Approximately one hundred studies of media effects on
body dissatisfaction have been conducted with the majority of these showing at least some
evidence, (Ferguson, Munoz, Contreras, Velasquez). Many psychological experts and specialists
have explored the effect of the media on developing female girls and adolescent body imageto
conclude whether it has a significant or insignificant impact on the body image of female
adolescents and young girls. In the current media, women are idealized as skinny, airbrushed, and
flawless. The media has been harshly criticized for creating and perpetuating a cultural
The Detection Of Earning Manipulation
Professor Messod Beneish created the Beneish M score Model in 1999 in his research entitled The
Detection of Earning Manipulation. He identified that earnings management is important for
financial statement users to assess current economic performance, to predict future profitability, and
to determine firm value (Jansen et al, 2012)
Beneish tested 74 companies and all COMPUSTAT firms matched by two digit SIC for period of
1982 1992 and he use 8 variables model in the mathematical model.
The evidence indicates that probability of manipulation increases with:
1. Unusual increases in receivables
2. Deteriorating gross margins
3. Decreasing asset quality (as defined later)
4. Sales growth
5. Increasing accruals

2.2.5 Benford s Law definition
At the end of the nineteenth century Simon Newcomb stumbled upon what we now call Benford s
law. But in 1937, Frank Benford succinctly pronounced that a certain distribution law applies to
numerical data in general, but particularly to random data with regard to leading digits.
In 1881, astronomer and mathematician, Simon Newcomb, published the first known article
describing what has become known as Benford s law in the American Journal of Mathematics. He
noticed that books of logarithmic tables with low digits were considerably more dog eared; but log
tables dealing with higher digits were progressively less worn. He inferred from this pattern that
fellow scientists used books with tables of lower digits far more often than they used books
concerning logarithms whose first digit started with seven, eight, and nine.
In the 1930s Benford clarified this phenomenon. To put it simply, because of the effect of
compounding, there are greater frequencies of numbers where the first digit is one, then fewer
frequencies of numbers with first digit two, then three, and so on. Consider this example of the
number 1.0000 grown at a rate of 10%:

Analysis Of Mental Illness By Allison Martinek
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, mental illnesses affect 1 out of every 5
adults. 43.8 million per year suffer from mental illnesses, including 21.4% of teenagers.
Crestwood senior Allison Martinek has dealt with anxiety and depression since she was clinically
diagnosed at age 10. Her anxiety often times causes panic attacks and makes it difficult to focus,
leaving her feeling overwhelmed. She comments, It makes it [school] extremely hard. Sometimes
just getting out of bed is just really hard, and it s a struggle and you don t want to go to school or
see people. The feeling of people staring at you, even though you know they re not... makes you not
want to be there. Through the struggles of mental illness, Martinek has
Forensic And Age Determination Of Blood Stains
Forensic approaches to age determination of blood stains Among the many pursuits of forensic
scientists, one of the foremost attempts is that of establishing time of death of a victim by use of
whatever evidence is available. Even though some calculations for estimations are claimed to be
available to a few branches of the forensics community, such as medical examiner determination
by use of internal temperature of the body, or the onset of rigor and livor mortis, or that of the
entomologist s estimations based on the pupal and larval stages of different carrion insects, it
may be that the body is in such an advanced state of decay that these calculations cannot give an
accurate calculation, or, even worse, that a body may be absent. In light of such possibilities, it
may however be possible to use other types of evidence to establish time of death, time of
deposition, and render a partial, if not full reconstruction of events on the scene based on the age
and order of deposition of other evidence. Bloodstains represent one such potential piece of
evidence that, aside from having the possibility of providing a link to a person by DNA, may allow
investigators to determine the time of deposition, and perhaps aid in the reconstruction of the
purported events. Attempts to establish the age of bloodstains have been made since early 1900s
(Bremmer et al., 2012), but no early technique could really be established as a universal and accepted
method. One issue that most techniques
Bayeux Tapestry Primary Sources
The final scene in the Bayeux tapestry (intact). Displays William 1st defeating King Richard in
1066 at the Battle of Hastings. In all wars in the medieval period, the victors always would purge
the defeated sides perspective, especially in Williams time. The Bayeux tapestry presents only
Williams victories, because it was made Odo, his half brother. All of the scenes in the tapestry
depict William as a righteous, merciful and just leader. From the Anglo Saxon side, there are no
primary sources currently existent which support Harold II since he was the one who was defeated.
It is quite obvious that from big (medieval) historical figures, that only primary sources written by
males, are respectively preserved. The second source selected was... Show more content on

Japan American Culture Essay
Culture is defined in different ways throughout the region of the world, with different
characteristics that define culture. In this paper I will define the meaning of Japan s culture and
describe Japan s common culture characteristics throughout their nation s physical geography,
military conflict history, and weather analysis. Culture is by the beliefs, customs, arts, a particular
society, group, place or time such as music, theater, painting, their habits, and traditions. Like ways
of life for their way of thinking, behaving, or working. Japan is made up of four major islands
along with over six thousand minor ones that cover approximately 234,890 square miles. The four
islands are Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, with the Pacific Ocean facing the entire
eastern and southern coastline. On the north and west side is the Sea of Okhotsk, the Sea of Japan,
and the East China Sea. With Japan being surround by the ocean the Japanese life is always oriented
toward the ocean with the currents converge offshore create fertile and varied fishing grounds. Japan
has a fascinating and multifaceted culture where the deepest of traditions date back to thousands of
years with a society in a continual state of rapid flux, with the fads, fashions and technological
development keep continually shifting that constantly pushes back the boundaries of the possible.

Teen Drug Abuse Essay
Teenagers often experiment with a variety of activities and substances. This experimentation can
lead to substance abuse and addiction. There s a lot of information that show that drug abuse is a
growing problem among teens. In addition to cocaine, Ecstasy and other club drugs, a recent
Monitoring the Future Study showed that the top six most abused drugs by teens are: marijuana
(31.5%), Vicodin (9.7%), amphetamines (8.1%), cough medicine (6.9%), sedatives and tranquilizers
(6.6% each). Without treatment, the effects of drug abuseon teens can lead to serious consequences
now and well into adulthood. Doing Drugs a young age can ruin the future for many kids that
possible have a great future ahead of them. Did you know most teens who are good at sports
either smoke weed or take steriods this is highschool and college. This could take a big role of
many citizens of the united states. I think that we should buckle down as parents and tell our kids
that focusing on school and sports or anything else could help you. I m afraid that in a couple years
that the world would go down heel because the amount of people that do drugs. Drugs could
severely hurt you or moreless kill you.
The use of drugs are quickly rising day by day i think all drugs should be banned for good. Even
though they could be used for good I think that s the only reason we should have drugs if it s to
help someone life. The education of our state is bad there are over 25% of people that are homeless
The Birth Mark By Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Birth Mark was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the story follows of a scientist who is named
Aylmer, and the scientist retires in the field of science for the search of marriage and love. When
Aylmer finds a suitable wife that he would fancy for himself, the scientist notices that his wife had a
birthmark on her face that represented a tiny hand print. This birthmark actually makes Aylmer
becomes obsessive about the mark itself to the pointof confronting Aylmer s wife. Aylmer
eventually convinces the woman about experimentation towards her face and the experiment
works but the wife had succumbed towards a fatal side effect which was death. Ending the story
with a dreadful lesson, If you love your own, then you will accept their facial flaws and
birthmarks with no pain or regret for they are everything to you even in death The story itself was
actually a realistic setting in the time that the main protagonist was in. Since the story could not
pick a time, it actually gave the reader a form of date. It was a time from last century seeing how
the scientist was now learning facial cream and dermatology against the form of birthmark. It struck
me not only accord but actually offended that the husband was that much concern over a tiny speck
which was the wife s birthmark. The constant theme that was placed underlining of the protagonist
was the foolishness of striving for perfection. An example is shown by the protagonist s desire to
get rid of the wife s birthmark in
Analysis Of Staying Awake By Ursula Le Guin
Many students in today s world are becoming lazy. As time is there, students find ways to cheat, and
lessen their work load through unethical approaches. There are multiple stories from teachers that
can just go on about the students that try to cheat the system. The ways of these students could be
that they can t read and are trying to cheat their way through the educational system. Ursula Le
Guin, wrote Staying Awake: Notes on the Alleged Decline of Reading , in this article she
emphasizes the various forms that reading is integrated in the modern world, when it really shouldn
t be a part of the reading category. Le Guin goes through the entertainment media list, from internet
to TV, during that time she gives the many reasons of how it shouldn t be associated, or compared

Malesic shares his own personal experience as an English teacher at a college just how often
students are willing to plagiarize their papers. He talks about the first time he was offended by the
student that did this, and thought that it was his fault, but as he consolidated with other teachers, he
learned that plagiarism isn t as rare as he considered. Many of his colleagues told different stories
of the times that they have caught plagiarism throughout their career. He tells his story about the
various causes of why this happens everywhere. Malesic comes up with that students think that
they know everything there is about reading and writing, however, in order to plagiarize, the
person has to have exceptional skills in English, which they often do not, and it is a dead giveaway.
Just because he was hurt by plagiarizing, doesn t mean he will do something necessary as a
