The Himalayas As A Barrier For The World
One Better Village to Live for All of Us

Some historians believe that the Himalayas acted as a barrier for the last five thousand years,
separating civilized development in China from the rest of the world. (China kept much to herself
until about two hundred years ago. Then the British, using gunpowder invented by the Chinese,
forced the door to China wide open to the West, starting the most humiliating chapter in Chinese
history and the interactions with the rest of the world). Developments in China and the West
progressed at a similar pace, despite their engaging in little intellectual communications. Great
thinkers emerged in both parts of the world about 2500 years ago, paving the way for their
respective civilizations to develop culturally and intellectually, albeit taking completely different
approaches.

Confucius (born 551 BC) is the most influential figure in the Chinese history. His thoughts and those
of his followers laid the foundation, the foundation is Confucian ethics described by Fung Yu Lan in
A History of Chinese Philosophy. This is fundamentally different from the major civilizations in
other parts of the world, where traditional religions have played more dominant roles in the course
of development. We are not religious because we are philosophical, from A History of Chinese
Philosophy, for example, death often plays mysterious roles in almost all forms of religions, but not
in the mind of Confucius. When facing a question about the meaning
Stroke And Infarction With Hormonal Contraception
Stroke and Infarction with Hormonal Contraception
During one year, one in 3,000 women who are taking oral contraceptives will develop a blood clot
(James, n.d.). These blood clots can lead to more dangerous events such as a thrombotic strokes or
myocardial infarctions. Through a nursing research article from The New England Journal of
Medicine, a study was conducted in Denmark to assess the risks of taking oral contraceptives and its
correlation with stroke and infarction. The article explains the purpose, the subjects of the study, how
the subjects were protected, findings, and implications that may be used for practice. The
pathophysiology of how oral contraceptives cause blood clots and how these blood clots cause
strokes and infarctions will also be discussed.
A thrombotic embolism appears to correspond with the estrogen dosage. Estrogen/progestogen oral
contraception affects blood clotting by increasing plasma fibrinogen and the activity of coagulation
factors, thus making the blood more prone to clotting. The inhibitor of coagulation is usually
decreased as well. Platelet activity is also enhanced with acceleration of aggregation (Bonnar, 1987).
These changes that occur in the blood while taking oral contraceptives create a state of
hypercoagulability. Hypercoagulable state means there is an abnormally increased shift toward
blood clotting. The hypercoagulability state of the blood causes the formation of blood clots that
travel to the brain or the heart
Cesar Chavez Essay
One of the greatest civil rights activists of our time; one who believed the ways of Gandhi and
Martin Luther King that violence can only hurt us and our cause (Cesar Chavez); a quiet, devoted,
small catholic man who had nothing just like those he help fight for; one of America s most
influential labor leaders of the late twentieth century (Griswold del Castillo); and one who became
the most important Mexican American leader in the history of the United States (Ender). Cesar
Chavez; an American farm worker, who would soon become the labor leader that led to numerous
improvements for union workers; it is recorded that Chavez was born near Yuma, Arizona on
March 31, 1927 and died on April 23, 1993 in San Luis, Arizona. (Wikipedia) His... Show more

Chavez joined his parents to help harvest carrots, cotton, and grapes under the blazing California
sun. During this period Cesar Chavez experienced the corrupt labor contractors, extremely low
wages, and poor living and working conditions that the migrant workers had to endure. Around
this time as well, he got his first glimpse of union organizing when his father became active in
several union activities. (Ramakrishnan; Russell) It is believed that Chavez s father and uncle
actively supported unions. Therefore he learned at a young age firsthand about strikes,
organizing operations, and also picket lines. (Gale Encyclopedia) During his lifetime, Cesar
Chavez and his followers made many changes and contributions to society. While he was alive, he
had the privilege to see what his non violence actions produced; what they transpired. It is
recorded that Chavez began actively organizing workers in the fields in 1952. The California
based Community Service Organization (CSO) recruited and trained for his work. Chavez built
new chapters of CSO, led voter registration drives, and helped Mexican Americans confront issues
of police and immigration abuse during the next ten years. In 1958 he became general director of
CSO. With $1,200 of his own savings, Chavez resigned four years later, to found the National Farm
Workers Association (NFWA) in 1962. (Gale Encyclopedia) He was a very determined man; strived
in everything he put his mind to. Russell declares that by
The Rise And Fall Of Henry Ford s Forgotten Jungle City
Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford s Forgotten Jungle City

Henry Ford may be best known as the founder of Ford Motor Company and as the creator of the
first model T, but what you may not know, is that he owned 25 million acres of land in the Amazon,
where he attempted to establish the largest rubber plantation in the world. Greg Grandin, in his
book Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford s Forgotten Jungle City, talks about Ford as an
idealist who took on many projects and was determined to see them succeed; focusing chiefly on the
discussion of his rubber plantation project.

Henry Ford controlled most of the raw materials he needed to manufacture his cars. This included
lumber, coal, and iron oar to be made into steel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the case when Brazil was the number one exporter of rubber, but the boom of rubber
production in Asia was so considerable, that Brazil could no longer compete.

In 1927 Ford sent a botanist named LaRou, to survey the land in Brazil and find a suitable
location for rubber production. He was responsible as well for reporting the condition of the
rubber tappers in the area, who were fever stricken ... [having] horrible wounds and sores on their
legs and feet. They [were] always nearly naked, covered merely by rags (p.88). Upon hearing of
the poverty of the workers, it became more of a social project than an economic one. Besides
establishing a profitable rubber plantation, his objective became to establish model towns . His
mission was to civilize the people, while having them obey his rules.

Ford acquired 25 million acres of amazon forests along the Tapajos River. The town that he created
is now known as Fordlandia. In that town, he funded the building of a hospital, as well as a water
purification plant to provide the employees with clean drinking water. He also tried to improve their
nutrition, teach them proper hygiene, and teach them to be economical while paying them decent
wages.
Institute of Contemporary Art
Institute of Contemporary Art

How do you make a building for contemporary art that stays contemporary in the future without
stooping to a neutral language? And how do you attract a big public without compromising the
selfish, private, exclusive time we all want to have in a museum? These questions, put forward by
Elizabeth Diller of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, represent the urbanistic motivation supporting the
construction of Boston s Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). In such a manner Boston s ICA
engages, not only with the urban citizen, but also the urban landscape in which the site is located.
The ICA conveys the idea of architecture as art in itself. As a presenter of art to the urban citizen and
because of its open design, the inside allows the citizens to not only appreciate the art within the
building but also see the art of the building s natural environment and setting.
Boston s ICA situated at Fan Pier in South Boston represents a shift from preconceived architectural
constructs to more innovative forms. The building s position in the middle of a currently
undeveloped urban landscape gives it a striking entity that engages the viewer in a way that
facilitates its various functions as a contemporary art museum. Furthermore its structure and location
alter the population s understanding of museum architecture as it has traditionally been defined, that
it is a shell that contains significant artistic work. A visual paradox becomes evident between
What Makes Warren Buffett Successful
Success can be measured in many ways, not the least is ones net worth. Money is certainly a
driving factor for many in business and if used as an indicator of success, Warren Buffett
unquestionably would rank among the most accomplished. Born during the depression in 1930,
Buffett started out selling chewing gum and Coca Cola door to door, later finding work in his
grandfather s grocery store. Investing his savings, Buffett now serves as the chief executive
officer (CEO) of a multinational conglomerate called Berkshire Hathaway. Among the more well
known company s held by Berkshire are GEICO, Heinz, Coca Cola and American Express. With a
market capitalization of $314 billion, Berkshire is now America s fifth most valuable public
company, behind Apple, Exxon Mobil, Google and Microsoft. Managing of company of this size
would be a daunting task for many, but Buffett has made it abundantly clear in both his own words
and those who have studied his success, the key lies in good leadership. According to Buffett, a good
leader must have a keen understanding of the industry he leads; strong character and integrity is
vital, and lastly, a good leader must have a profound understanding human nature. Buffett hand picks
his managers and trusts them to administer company affairs. Buffet has surrounded himself with
likeminded managers and the results have been impressive. In his annual letter to the shareholders of
Berkshire, Buffett communicates his vision and gives
Common Estate Case Study
When closing an estate, most states that use a formal probate process, allow for an informal closing
for common estates. These states simplified the probate process for estates that are straightforward;
not complicated or contested. Fortunately, Massachusetts is one of those states. In Massachusetts,
closing an estateusing the simplified probateprocess involves the following tasks:

1)Complete a final inventory of assets.

2)Using the inventory of assets in the final accounting, complete the final accounting.
3)Under cover of an assent form, send copies of the inventory of assets and the final accounting to
each beneficiary.
4)After receiving the signed assent forms from each beneficiary, the executor must sign the form
called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3)Schedule C Schedule C is the remaining balance of the estate. In common estates, the balance
should be zero. Simply put, the total in Schedule A must equal the total in Schedule B to produce a
zero balance in Schedule C. Furthermore, filling in these schedules with the appropriate values is a
collaborative effort. At times, throughout an estate administration, there are legal matters that the
attorney must handle. If these matters produce income or expenses for the estate, the attorney should
enter those values on the appropriate schedule. So, if the account doesn t balance in the initial
attempts, the attorney will most likely step in to help find any discrepancies if needed.

Once the final accounting balances, then the attorney will continue with the rest of the closing
process mentioned above. At this point, the only remaining task for the executor is to distribute the
rest of the property in the estate after signing the account form.

The Informal Closing of an Estate

Although an estate may close informally, it doesn t mean that a probate court won t request
information at a later date. Therefore, the executor should hold on to the original documents related
to the informal closing. In addition, the executor should retain supporting documents related to
entries in the final accounting such as receipts, bank statements, and brokerage statements. Basically,
all an executor needs to do is store all the documentation used to produce the
Shakespeare s Othello Essay
In Othello, William Shakespeare creates a devious character, Iago. He is a very educated young
man, who lacks ethics enabling his character to deceive those around him, disguising his true colors.
With audience perception, and opposing character perceptions, Iago portrays a brilliant, manipulative
villain who is concealed with false sympathy, integrity and empathy. William Shakespeare, is widely
recognized as one of the greatest writers in English language and the world s pre eminent
dramatist. His plays were written in a style with elaborate metaphors and rhetorical phrases that did
not always align naturally. He was more of a free flow with his words, primarily used a metrical
pattern consisting of lines unrhymed. Over the course... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Iago considers himself a man of true respect and dignity. In Act I, he declares, I know my price
(I.1, 3). He is admitting to Rodrigo, how frustrated he is over the fact of Cassio s promotion. He
explains to Rodrigo has he had served front line of the war, and his experience proves him as a
better candidate, than young Cassio. He sees it as an unbearable, and shameful that he has been
regarded with such insignificance. I am not what I am, (I.1, 65) Iago stated. This is interpreted as
I am not what I seem. The writer gives us a hint with this quote from Iago, is telling us he is not
the person we see him as. This character as a very well honest, respected man, but he is the
complete opposite. He is a liar, he makes promised he has no intention of keeping, and he tells
stories in order to trap people. Awake! what, ho, Brabantio! Thieves! thieves! thieves! Look to
your house, your daughter and your bags! Thieves! thieves! (Iago, I.1, 82) The first four words,
we see Iago waking up Desdemona s father, Brabantio. He is to awake him because of the thieves
that are in his house. In reality, we see it as one of his tricks he is playing. Desdemona, is with the
thieves running towards Othello, but Iago secretly is manipulating it as somebody has come to rob
his house, that way he is still loyal to Othello. To the readers/audience Iago s evil nature is revealed
for a significant portion of
Othello As Symbol Of The White Upper Class
Desdemona becomes a symbol of the white upper class to Othello. In this sense, by killing
Desdemona he is revenging the power the white society exercises over him. Shakespeare writes:
OTHELLO It is the cause, it is the cause, my soul Let me not name it to you, you chaste stars: It is
the cause. Yet I ll not shed her blood, Nor scar that whiter skin of hers than snow And smooth as
monumental alabaster Yet she must die, else she ll betray more men. Put out the light, and then
put out the light If I quench thee, thou flaming minister, I can again thy former light restore,
Should I repent me; but once put out thine, Thou cunning st pattern of excelling nature, I know
not where is that Promethean heat That can thy light relume. When I have plucked thy rose, I
cannot give it vital growth again, It must needs wither: I ll smell it on the tree He kisses her O
balmy breath, that dost almost persuade Justice to break her sword one more, one more! [He
kisses her] Be thus when thou art dead, and I will kill thee And love thee after one more, and that
s the last. So sweet was ne er so fatal. I must weep, But they are cruel tears: this sorrow s heavenly;
It strikes where it doth love. She wakes. (Shakespeare, 5.2.1 22) At first glance, Othello is
explaining his feelings about killing Desdemona. However, if one reads in between the lines, this
becomes a metaphor for the racial problems of the Renaissance. First, Othello does not explain his
reasons to why he
The Israeli and Palestinian Conflict Essay
The Israeli and Palestinian Conflict Many Questions, Few Answers Unless the Israelis and
Palestinians could not compromise, negotiate and come to an agreement, peace is impossible in the
Middle East and even the security fence that Israel is now building will not solve the conflict nor
stop terrorist actions by Palestinian extremists. The Israelis and Palestinians need to compromise and
negotiate, as suggested by the words written on that wall, Peace comes (with) agreement not
separation. The leaders of both sides of the conflict should think of the future generations. They
should agree to disagree meaning that they should come to terms and pour out all their grievances,

In order to pacify the Arabs, they instead limited the number of immigrants and then totally stop
Jewish immigration to Palestine. They also disclaimed any intentions to create a Jewish state, which
infuriated the Zionist movement. They proposed the partition of Palestine into two states, Arab and
Jews. They would give the Palestinians, accounting for 70% of the population, 47% of the country
and the rest to the Jewish people. Both the Palestinians and the Jews rejected the British decision and
proposal. The Zionists response was to increase the Jewish immigration illegally and assassinate
leaders of the British government. A small group of Zionist extremists committed series of politically
motivated murders against British leaders. They also massacred Arab villagers without any
provocation. They increased their offensive tactics, terrorizing the Arabs and destroying their
mosques. With all the violence in Palestine, Great Britain decided to end its mandatory role in
Palestine and handed over the Palestine problem to the United Nation. A United Nations resolution
had the same proposal as Great Britain, to partition Palestine into two states, Arab and Jewish, with
an economic union and a government to be administered by the United Nations. But months before
the envisioned partition and the end of British mandatory role, the Zionist movement moved to
establish control over more territory. They
