ABSTRACT :-
In this study, an automatic water pump control unit has been designed, constructed and
tested the aim of this study is to ensure there is enough water and its continuous flow
without the stress turning on and off the pump thereby saving. In this study, an automatic
water pump control unit has been designed, time water energy and prevent the pump from
overworking provided that there is a constant power supply. After the complete design of
the system, the deviation between the excepted result and the actual result was very close.
Performance evaluation of work from the test results showed that the system was highly
efficient since and improved workable lifespan of water pump by controlling when to
switch off the water pump.
CHAPTER – 01
INTRODUCTION
Water is a common chemical substance that is most essential to man for Survival as it
forms an average of 60% of the human body. Although water forms a larger mass of the
earth, it is not readily available to man for use as result of its composition and distance
from place of necessity. This has lead to efforts to store and retrieve it when needed but the
development of various water storage schemes or systems such as dams, reservoirs, wells,
artificial lakes etc., which engage the use of an electric pump to aid its transportation
during storage and retrieval. Water is pumped from its source to where it is stored which is
then distributed to where it is needed.
Borehole is a narrowly drilled hole into the ground using a rotary drilling
technology. Boreholes are usually constructed for different purposes like extraction of
water, oil etc., boreholes are usually dug deeper than water well. Thus, its water is cleaner,
more Colourless and odourless ie borehole is more efficient and resourceful than water
well. And because of its narrow path, water cannot be raised mechanically or by hand, it
can only be extracted using a narrow submersible water pump. The water extracted goes
through pipes to A reservoir.
AIM OF THE PROJECT
1. To design an automatic water monitoring system
2. incorporate an interactive medium between the end user and the machine.
3. To prevent over labor of the ping machine and prevent it from getting bad.
4. To avoid wastage of water.
5. Since the demand of electricity is very high, automatic water level control saves energy
1.1 Objectives of the project:
The goal or objectives of which the designed device is expected to accomplish is to
build an automatic water level control with automatic control system. In this project inlet is
place at different level of the tank and with the aid of this inlet, the inlet monitor the water
level of the liquid at any particular point time.
1.2 METHODOLOGY
There are any methods of designing an automatic water level control with switching device
but all these methodologies require human assistance. In this project automatic water
level control for both overhead and underground tank with switching device is designed
using electronic control to refill the water The system designed was carefully arranged to
refill the water tank any time water get low to a certain level finally the system
automatically shut down the water pump by putting the electric pump off when the tank is
full. The approach used in this work is the modular design approach the overall design was
broken into function block diagrams. Where each block in the diagram represent a section
of the circuit that carries out a specific function. The system was designed in this method
the circuit is designed to display levels of water to monitor the inflow of water in the tank.
However these displays can be increased and decrease depending upon the level
resolution required.
1.2 ANALYSIS
The project design automatic water level control for both overhead and underground tank
with switching device is to ensure a higher rate of water monitoring the major components
used in the project design are motors, jars, as water tank, floater and PVC sheet

Literature Review
Several works have been done on the control of water pumping machine and
level indication but these systems have their own disadvantages as a result of the method
of sensing employed.
An automatic water level control detects the water level in the tank and also
ensures continuous water flow round the clock because of its automatic the level
measurement consist of determining the distance from the upper surface of a liquid in a
Reservoir or vessel or any arbitrarily chosen mark located above and below this surface by
itself the level is not an independent physical Quantities describing the state of a
substance through direct and indirect level. The process of water pumping in an overhead
tank storage system and has the ability to detect the level of water in a tank. The pump will
switch off accordingly the automatic water level monitor used in a study consists of the
following major units: motor, wires and the pump and the core work of detecting the level of
water is done by the comparator. Taking advantage of the electrical conductivity property of
water, the copper conductors are used as the water. When water touches the floater, the
floater positioned at a particular level in the water, voltage is transferred to the floater
which in turn in transferred to the comparator circuit for Further processing. The electrodes
in the tank and with a preset resistance and output a high or low with respect to the result
from the comparison.
The author concludes by saying that this research has successfully provided an
improvement on existing water level controllers by its use of calibrated circuit to indicate
the water level. This review contains the brief discussion of some recent works of water
automation of water automation for water pump controller system through android
application. A model is presented in which water can expense from a customer and detect
the leakage in the water distribution system. The advantage of this model is that it can
reduce the periodic tours of providers to each physical location to read each meter.
Another advantage is that the hill of water usage can give based on the near real-time
expense from the previous Expense. Detecting leak support to save water resources and
energy and also reduce the cost. The paper proposes a water monitoring system by using
automatic overflow control unit. The proposal is
Designed from the perspective of setting as per the user demands using
application. The advantages of the system are the conservation of water resource,
reduction of the manual attempt and time to time changes over the situation of water
storage with the help of floater.

COMPONENTS
In this project of Development of an automatic water pump control unit we are using the
components listed below.
A water pump is a machine that is used to transfer water from one location to another
location. This can be used to transfer water from one place to be used for drinking water or
it can be used to remove water from the area to prevent damage. There are many types of
water pumps available, and we choose the submersible water pump for this project.
1.submersiable water pump
2. Resistor s
3. Realy
4. screws and wires.
5. SPST switch [single pole single throw].
6. PVC sheet.
7. Water tube.
8. Tank.
4.1. SUBMERSIBLE WATER PUMP:
This submersible water pump works differently than other types of water pumps. Because
of the pumps design the process by submerging the entire tool and connecting it through
tubes or a collection container for liquid and solids. The two main features of a
submersible water pump are the impeller and casing. The motor powers the impeller,
causing it to spin in the casing. The impeller sucks the water and other particles up into the
submersible pumps and the spinning motion in the casing sends it up toward the surface.
Depending on the pump model we can run them for more extended periods. The water
pressure from submerging it allows the pump to function easily without using much energy,
making then incredibly efficient. Companies and household owners can use them for
bigger projects because of their functional capabilities.
Water pump are a type of impulse turbine that works using a spinning wheel to convert
potential energy from pressure into kinetic energy. The water is pumped from a lower
elevation to a storage area, where it is collected until it is needed. The water is then
released from the storage area at a higher elevation, allowing the water to travel to its
desired location. There are common submersible water pumps are used.
• Sump pumps:
Sump pumps can be helpful for homeowners and business owners trying to protect
their buildings because they can fit in smaller, less accessible spaces. There are several
flood prevention and water removal methods, but the versatility and functionality of
submersible pumps make a top choice and best to use for household purpose.
Benefits of submersible pump:
When looking at various water pumps, we might find many have similar functions or
capacities. The unique advantages of using a submersible pump can help to determine if
This tool might be right for homes. Some benefits include:
1.Boosting pump efficiency.
2. decreasing priming.
3. preventing cavitation.
4. eliminating noise.
Types of submersible pumps:
Depending On the function of pumps, need to invest the different type of
submersible pump. As such a versatile tool, can find many types of submersible pumps to
meet any industry and application. Some standard versions
1. Water pumps.
2. Dewatering pumps.
3. Sump pumps.
4. Sewage pumps.
4.2 Screws and wires
A screw is an extremely useful simple machine. It consists of a circular that is surrounded
by a spiral thread. Many people picture the metal screw that is used to hold together wood,
plastic, electronics, and more. But a screw does much more than that! A screw converts
motion, but in this case, it offers a mechanical advantage by converting circular turning
motion into linear forward backward motion. A screw can hold things together, cut a hole
into or through something, works a pump, and much more.
Types of screws:
These terms refer to fasteners that are designed to be threaded into a tapped hole that is in
part of the assembly and so based on the Machinery’s Handbook distinction they would be
screws.
1. Wood screw.
2. Lag screw.
3.Hex cap screw.
4. Lug bolt and head bolt.
5. Machine screw.
Once screw turning machines were in common use, most commercially available wood
screws were produced with this These cut screws are almost invariable tapered, and even
when the tapered shank is not obvious, they can be discerned because the threads do not
extend past the diameter of the shank.
Wires :-
Electricity wire is used for power distribution to transmit electricity from a transformer or
other source to an outlet, appliances, device. Cable, switch, distribution board, socket,
and light fitting. They conduct electricity and provide a low resistance path for electricity to
flow through. Electricity wires consist of a single conductor, cables hold multiple wires
inside them. Insulation can cover the metal path of the wire so that it doesn’t make contact
with outside sources.
The structural components of wire and cable products can be divided into four main
structural components: wire, insulation layer, shielding and sheathing layer, as well as
filling components and tensile components.
Depending on the products requirements and application, some product structures
are extremely simple. Standard shaped wire is available from on-site tooling in round,
square, and flat wire products. Edges of flat wire products can be profiled with square,
rolled rounded edges, natural round edges or fully blended round edges.
A wire is a flexible stand of metal. Overhead power cabling. The conductor consists of
steel (centre, high tensile strength), surrounded by four layers of aluminium (high
conductivity)
4.3 SPST switch [ single pole single thow ] :
A single pole single throw [SPST] switch controls a single circuit. Switch throw: a
switch throw describes the number of output connections each pole of the switch can
have. For example, a single pole double throw [SPDT] switch has a single pole and two
different switch output options.
A switch is called a “single Pole” because it has only one input or connection point,
the pole. This single connection point is where electrical current enters the switch,
allowing it to control the flow of electricity in a circuit. SPST NC switches are often used in
safety systems where an open circuit indicates normal operation, and any interruption
(when the switch is actuated) triggers an alarm or safety mechanism.
An SPST switch embraces a basic "ON/OFF" control of a single circuit and consists
of two terminals that serve as electrical connection points. Power the switch “ON” to
establish a connection between the two terminals. Turn the switch to “OFF” to eliminate
the terminals’ connection.
The most basic form of lighting control is the SPST (single pole single throw) switch. Since
an electrical load Apply requires two conductors to operate, we can connect a switch in
series with a single wire and use it to turn the load. There are four main types of switches:
1. Single pole single throw.
2. Single pole double throw.
3. Double pole single throw.
4. Double pole double throw.
Applications:
Single pole single throw switches find numerous applications in various electrical
and electronic systems due to their simple ON/OFF control
1. Light switches.
2. Doorbell switches.
3. Automotive switches.
4. Security systems.
4.4 PVC sheet
Polyvinyl chloride is a white, brittle solid. It is insoluble in all solvents but swells in the
monomer and some chloride hydrocarbon solvents. PVC is used in construction for pipe,
doors and windows. It is also used in making plastic bottles, packing, and bank or
membership cards, adding plasticizers makes PVC softer and more flexible. It is used in
plumbing, electrical cable insulation, flooring, signage, phonograph records, inflatable
products, and in rubber substitutes. With cotton or linen, it is used in the production of
canvas.
4.5 Water tube :
A water tube for passing or holding water. Such as a tube in some steam boilers in
which water circulates and steam is generated.
The water tubes are made of a material that can withstand high temperatures, such
as steel or copper. The water is heated until it reaches the boiling point, at which point it
turns into steam. Steam separation the steam
Rises to the steam drum, where it is separated from the water.
A hollow and typically cylindrical object, used for the passage of fluids or as a
container. A collapsible cylindrical container of soft metal or plastic closed with a cap,
used to hold viscous liquids or plastic.
While tubes vary in construction, all share the general characteristics of being
inflatable. Made of a thin, flexible, synthetic material such as rubber or PVC plastic.
A hollow, usually cylindrical body of metal, glass, rubber, or other material, used
especially for conveying or containing liquids or gases. Tubing or ibes are hollow cylinders
used for fluid transport, structural applications, or electrical sheathing. They are usually
cylindrical in shape, but may have round, rectangular, or square cross-sections. Tube is
easier to installed without the need for special tooling to cut threads. Standard spanners
are all that is required. tube is easier to manipulate, bend, because of the thinner wall
sections. Steel tubing is used throughout industrial applications, particularly for
transportation of water, gases and liquid wastes. Steel tubes are a common component of
Industrial machines, used in conveyor belts, hydraulic lifts, mills and many other machine.
Tubing offers greater flexibility in systems with fewer connections, meaning fewer
potential leak points. Tubing can usually be installed faster and cheaper than piping.
Tubing is cut to tightened onto a nut.
4.6 Water tank
A water tank is a container for storing water, for many applications, drinking water,
irrigation, fire suppression, farming, both for plants and livestock, chemical manufacturing,
food preparation as well as many other uses Water tank parameters include the general
design of the tank, and choice of construction materials, lining. Various materials are used
for making a water tank
Plastic (polyethylene, polypropylene), fiberglass, concrete, stone, steel, carbon or
stainless). Earthen pots, such as matki used in south asia, can also be used for water
storage. Water tanks are an efficient way to help developing countries to store clean water.
Water tanks can be used for storing water for many different uses These uses can
range from emergency fire suppression, irrigation, to providing drinking water and taps for
tanks. Water tank storage is a storage solution for water, used for domestic, agricultural,
and industrial purposes.
Water storage Tanks come in a range of materials, shapes, and sizes, depending
on the intended use of the tank.
The main role of a water storage tank is to store water before it is used for drinking,
washing, cleaning, and so on- but many storage tanks are more complex than they seem.
Water storage tanks are used to store water and provide faster access to a water supply.
Atmospheric and pressurized water storage tanks are available, and atmospheric tanks are
more commonly used for outdoor, large scale applications, while pressurized tanks for
indoor applications. Water storage tanks have a variety of uses across a number of
industries.
Water usage and purpose of use are both considered when determining the appropriate
size of a water storage tank. There must be enough water to meet demand at all times, and
sizing too small may result in a temporary water shortage as the tank refills with water.
Specific information, such as flow rates, needed when sizing a well water storage tank.
Manufacturers can support homeowners in deciding on the right-sized tank for an at home
water storage.
Storage tanks have a range of uses in commercial, industrial and residential applications.
In the majority of situations, if water needs to be stored, a water storage tank can be used.
1. Argiculture.
2. Irrigation.
3. Household water storage.
4. Fire suppression.
5. Industrial manufacturing.
4.7 Relay
Relays are switches that open and close circuits electromechanically or
electronically. Relays control one electrical circuit by opening and closing contacts in
another circuit. As relay diagrams show, when a relay contact is normally open (NO), there
is an open contact when the relay is not energized. When a relay contact is Normally
Closed (NC), there is a closed contact when the relay is not energized. In either case,
applying electrical current to the contacts will change their state.
Relays are generally used to switch smaller currents in a control circuit and do not
usually control power consuming devices except for small motors and Solenoids that draw
low amps. Nonetheless, relays can “control” larger voltages and amperes by having an
amplifying effect because a small voltage applied to a relays coil can result in a large
voltage being switched by the contacts.
4.8 LED
• The light emitting diode is two – lead semiconductor light source
• In 1962 Nick holoyak Has come Up with idea Of light emitting diode He was working For
the general electric company
• LED is a special Type of diode and they have similar electrical Characteristics of PN

• Hence the LED Allows The flow of current In forward direction
• And it’s blocked the current in reverse direction
• LED occupies the small area .
• The application of LED Used to make various electrical And electronic project
4.9 1 k Resistor
• A1k ohm resistor is passive electric components that has resistance of 1000ohm.
The “k” in1k stands For killo.
• Which is prefix the Means of1000. The value of a resistor Is expressed In ohms.
• Reduce current Flow : This can be prevent Damage To sensetive component.

WORKING
The device to determine the level of the water in the tank we must know the
corresponding height of the tank. This value will enable us to calibrate the tank.
CONSTRUCTION:
For this development of an automatic water pump control System we are using
DC source for working
The construction of this system is simple and easy. This system contains a
submersible water pump and it fixed to a tube to fill the tank the pump and it fixed to a tube
to fill the tank the pump one terminal is connected to battery and another terminal is
connected to SPST switch than the SPST switch’s other terminal is connected to the NC
switch at the upper side of the tank. The NC switch construction had changed to burn
requirement the bar at the NC switch is attached to a floater at the tank. The NC switch
other terminal is connected to submersible water pump
WORKING:
The working of automatic water pump control system is easy and simple.
The submersible water pump which is submersed in the water in the container will
start the pumping water into tube which is connected to the tank the water will deliver into
tank from container by activation of submersible water pump with DC supply at the top
level as the tank NC had arrange an NC concept switch to cut off the motor.
After filling the tank whenever the tank gets filled the floater in the tank get to top of
the tank and the bar connected to it will break the NC condition so due to the cutting of
power supply for the motor and the motor will be turn off.
CHAPTER – 07
TECHNOLOGY
The automatic water pump has a water level regulator circuit and is a simple
technical structure. Depending on the water level in the tank, it can automatically turn on
and off the pump kit. You can implement this motor driver circuit at home or in college
using cheaper components. An automatic water pump controller is an intelligent and
economical system designed for water pressure management. It helps prevent delays,
minimise vibrations, and allow for precise and accurate control of your water supply. The
water level controller designed in this project can be used to control water flow However,
there is no way of knowing whether the source of water, which in this case, actually has
water or not. If no water source is present, then the submersible pump would start running
unnecessarily and overhead itself. This could be taken care by implementing another
process. Also the rate of water input must always be equal to or greater than the rate of
water output. To make this happen we could use a speed regulator. If these issues are
taken acre of then a more efficient and reliable performance can be achieved.
Benefits of water pump control unit :-
In this present day, where working for water conversation is very important and the
need of the hour, our services totally comphasize over contributing in it. Our product water
pump level controller is the best and most convenient way to help the environment with
affordable and reachable ways. Although the motive of installing water pump is primarily
the water conservation but the benefits are much more.
1. The device doesn’t require physical controls. It can be functioned mechanically with
the help of timer switches.
2. It works both ways that is when the tank is empty or when it goes full.
3. Not only it saves water, but also power, time and money. It also helps you stay
stress- free about the tank overflowing.
4. The special equipment and timer controllers are in pumping the water level to its
maximum before the peak hours. It also maintains the water level throughout the
day.
5. The acceptance and usage of these devices have risen steeply as it helps to save
power, water and life of the pump
CHAPTER – 08
MERITS
An automated water level controller is a sensible technique to monitor and regulate the
water level in the tanks. It is a must have item in Today’s household. Apart from the obvious

CHAPTER – 10
Result and Testing
The automatic water level controller has been successfully designed and
developed. The motor is turned off and on according to the water levels. Compared to other
conventional methods, the automatic water level controller shows excellent performance
with its reliable technology and it is cheaper and durable. The automatic water level
controller is a promising controller in terms of system response in water level control with
respect to the non-linearity introduced by pumps. The experimental model was made
according to the circuit diagram and the results were as expected. The motor pump
switched on and when the OHT was about to go dry and switched OFF when OHT was
about to overflow.
The water storage tank was made of”a transparent container in this experiment.
When the system was connected to 9v DC supply, water was below our pre-set minimum
water level so the pumping machine was automatically switched ON, and the water to the
maximum level during a time duration of 18 seconds. When the water to the maximum
level, the pumping machine was automatically switched OFF.
As each of the floater switch can be assembled at home as they are identical to
each other but except for their lengths are different. Based on the depth of the water tank
from top to the opening of a water pipe cab be taken as the length of the minimum level for
the sensing unit. The depth of the water tank from top to the level where max capacity
reached or lesser than that is taken as the length of the maximum level sensing unit. The
leaf switches are fitted at the top of the tank.
When the water reaches the set limit level, the floats stop and want to go up more than the
required distance for pushing the moving contact of the switch to the normally open
position or else the pressure on the float may lead to failure of the switch itself. The length
of the rod is set accordingly for the purpose. It should be attached to the metal/thermocol
float using some glue. Digital point provide the best home automation
As in this time of automation is the future to a better lifestyle. Almost everything around us
is being depended on automation where all the latest technology fixed in it as the name
tells Its an automatic device that can be used to control or check the level of water at all
times and our motor or pumps can be managed accordingly.
Conclusion :-
The main aim of this project is to provide an autonomous system that will
prevent a water pump from syphoning air and maximize the efficiency of water movement
from one tank to another. After working on this project, we were able to better understand
the difficulties of people face when trying to prime a water pump after it has stalled. The
AWPC will prevent the water pump from syphoning air and it will be always ready to transfer
water to the secondary tank whenever the undergoes tank is full. The AWPC will be great
device to have in those communities where water is scarce and the need of storing water is
a necessity. Automated water pump systems have gained significant attention due to their
ability to regulate the operation of water pumps based on specific circumstances such as
water pressure or level. They help in reducing energy use and water waste while ensuring
effective water distribution, making them increasingly important in agriculture, irrigation,
and domestic water supply systems. There is a substantial amount of research on
automated water pump systems, highlighting their benefits over traditional manual
systems, including enhanced effectiveness, decreased energy usage, better water
management, improved pump performance, automatic faults finding and repair, and long-
term cost savings. However, they also have drawbacks such as higher upfront costs,
complex installation and design demands, reliance on a trustworthy power source, and
technical expertise and knowledge needed for maintenance and repair. Automated water
pump system come in various types, including pressure -based level – based, variable –
based, and remote monitoring and control- bead systems. Each type has its own strengths
and weakness, making the choice of automated water pump system dependent on the
specific applications and requirements.
Future scope:-
The automatic water level controller has a great future scope. By adding wi-fi
module through which it can be controlled through mobile application by doing so it can be
used in big building, offices, malls. It also has a bright future in agriculture sector. It helps
to control the valve by turning water flow on or off as required. The automatic water level
controller minimizes the need for any manual switching and human interference. The
machine helps to detect level of water or any liquid. For this ultrasonic sensor is used.
Population growth, lifestyle changes, development, and agricultural practices will
contribute to an increasing demand for water during the next 20 years. Global water use is
likely to increase by 20 and 50 percent above current levels by 2050, with industrial and
domestic sectors growing at the fastest pace. Water challenges of the 21 st century require
innovative water management techniques to ensure a sustainable future. The techniques
include water harvesting, desalination with renewable energy, water reuse, smart water
management, and BGI, each of which has the potential to transform the way we manage
