The Period Of Victorian Times
Late Victorian civilians had no hope or faith left by the end of Queen Victoria s reign. Victorian
poets either attempted to change the mind and hearts of Victorian people for the benefit of the
throne or attempted to raise awareness for the benefit of progress over the course of the era s
entirety. Nineteenth century England reached its height as a world imperial power and had
changed as dramatically as it had in all of its history combined during this time (Greenblatt 2145).
The population of London grew from two million to over six million and industrial production
techniques had a profound impact on everyone in all aspects of life in their culture (2145).
Unregulated industrialization created great prosperity for a few, but it created... Show more content

British parliament passed a reform bill that adapted voting right in order to reflect the population
growth (2146). This Reform Bill marked the beginning of a new age of political power. The 1830
1840s became known as the Time of Troubles because of industrialization which caused a domino
effect of trouble for the masses (2146). Working conditions were awful, especially in the mines
and factories and for the women and children already in poverty that were forced to work in these
conditions (2146). Literature of the period focuses on the plight of the poor and the new urban
reality of industrial England (2148). Writers often commented that there were two England s...
Wealthy England and Poor England (2149). As of 1837 just half of England s population was
literate, however that figure continued to grow because of an imperial push for education even
though in the early and mid Victorian periods women had very limited access to education until
1870 (2148).
Among the early Victorian poets is the very well known, Alfred (Lord) Tennyson who offered ideas
of hope in many of his works as long as trusted the crown and/or were wealthy. The work that stands
out the most addressing commoners is The Lady of Shalott which maintained a strong influence
throughout the entirety of the Victorian era (although written and revised in the early period). As
official poetic spokesman for the reign of Victoria, Tennyson felt called
Summary Of Driftwood By Sherod Santos
A piece of wood transforms into driftwood through the action of the winds, tides, and waves. In
Driftwood , Sherod Santos uses symbolism between the comparison of his son and a piece of
driftwood. In comparison, the son will go through changes throughout life like the wood
transformed into driftwood; the ocean s waves and tides transformed the piece of wood like the
son will experience endeavors that will transform him. Santos utilizes symbolism through
personified diction to show the comparison between the son and driftwood s similar journey s in
life. Santos compares a piece of driftwood to his son, and how their walks of life are similar.
Tumbled from the backwash of a fishing boat (Santos 1) sets up the poem: the piece of wood once
Stormont-Vail Healthcare Reflection
I have had the opportunity to grasp many wonderful and gratifying experiences over the last
several years, and each encounter left an immense impression on my life. As I indicated on my
application form, I have given over 800 hours of my time and service by volunteering in my local
community. One organization that has truly impacted my life as well as my heart is with Stormont
Vail HealthCare. While volunteering with this organization, I was privileged to provide
compassion and care to a young boy that was very sick by playing video games and puzzles with
him. At that moment, I was extremely grateful that I was there to comfort him and make him smile
and laugh. Nothing is more rewarding than to see a child laugh and smile. When I left
Link Between Sustainable Construction And Construction...
ABSTRACT

The link between sustainable construction and the construction industry itself is inextricable. The
two elements of the concept are the cause and effect. Crudely put: sustainable construction is
facilitated by the construction industry, and yet the construction industry has the greatest effect of
the core factors of sustainable construction in terms of ecology, social and economic ways.

To enable ambitions and targets listed within white papers such as the Sustainable Development Plan
(2005), the Strategy for Sustainable Construction (2008) and the Climate Change Bill (2009) there
must be a continuation of the legacy of sustainable construction as demonstrated at London 2012 and
Glasgow 2014. There are opportunities to embrace ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first principle is founded in the industry s impact on the economy. The UK construction industry
provides £90billion gross value added to the UK economy, approximately 7% of the UK economy,
whilst also supplying 3million jobs, itself approximately 10% of the total employment (Construction
2025, 2013). The construction industry underpins the UK economy, and is effectively a barometer of
the economy itself.

The tables listed below demonstrate the bearing that the industry has on both the economy and
employment in times of relative boom (the period pre 2008) and that of economic crisis / recession
(post 2008):

Listed as 2012 prices and relative to the 2012 economy.

The Construction Industry: Statistics and Policy, 2014

As indicated within the tables, the construction industry is also susceptible to a poor economy, thus
the basis for achieving sustainable construction is reliant on the economy it is founded upon. It can
be argued that sustainable construction strategies cannot be achieved without a stable economic
climate or one that does not show growth (Carvalho, 2001). Such is the impact of construction on
the UK economy it was listed within the first phase of the government paper Plan For Growth as
one of the 8 sectors where barriers were required to be removed to

Why I Had Taken a Break from Blogging
I feel like I owe you all an explanation. I said in my Blue Moon Cinnamon Horchata Ale Bread

I m still learning just how to be transparent to all of y all while also keeping some things private

My mind is a lot stronger than my body and I can t lie and say that it doesn t bother my state of
mind on most days. I have to fight against the pain that I feel everyday and try not to complain
about it unless it s completely unbearable at that moment. It can take a good thirty minutes to an
hour to get out of bed when I wake up because my limbs might be temporarily paralyzed or my
heart is tachycardic and there s nothing I can do about it. But once I get myself together after I
wake up, I say a prayer, think positive thoughts and go on about my day!
Because my days are so unpredictable, I literally have to take one day at a time. Planning upcoming
days can seem like an impossible feat because I never know how my body will respond. Most
bloggers are great at planning their blog schedules ahead of time and sticking to it. To be honest, I
started to develop blogger envy because I would read posts about how well other bloggers could
stick to their schedule and because of their consistency, their following grew exponentially. I was
struggling with growing my following on social networks because I couldn t be as consistent as
them. That destroyed my inner peace and I never should of let that happen because most of those
bloggers don t face the same challenges as me and I shouldn t have been comparing my grass to

Video Case: Constraint Management at Southwest Airlines
Question 1: Analyze Southwest s passenger boarding process using the Theory of Constraints.
Southwest Airlines is an airline company that has set industry benchmarks of having the best
turnaround ratios, in an industry where lead time during different operations is very time
consuming. Southwest currently boasts a rapid gate turnaround of 25 minutes or less, and it
demonstrates how attention to activities pertaining to ground operations (including cleaning of the
aircraft, fuelling and flight preparation) can help the company in being so operationally efficient.
Customers rave about low fares, exceptional customer service, and the biggest competitive advantage
that Southwest has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Constraints in the boarding process are related to the boarding sequence of passengers; in order for
Southwest to manage its constraints, they need to improve the boarding sequence of passengers to
make it as fast as possible which in turn would lead to better turnaround times (faster boarding
times).
Question 2: Which boarding scenario among the different ones proposed would you recommend for
implementation? Why?
The seven different alternate boarding scenarios that were designed were: * New family pre
boarding behind the A group of first to board passengers. This method would give priority to
passengers that are travelling with families and give them exclusive access to the aircraft first. *
Family pre boarding before anyone else, but seating choices limited on board to behind the wing.
Similar to the first scenario, this would give families priority in the boarding sequence but would
restrict them to certain sections of the aircraft. * Six boarding groups (within A B C groups)
instead of the original three A B C groups. This would allow for better division of the boarding
sequence since the groups have been doubled. * Assigned boarding gate line positions based on
both boarding group and gate arrival time. This scenario would allow Southwest to get rid of its
current single line philosophy. * Single
Poverty Of Sharecroppers And Unemployed Industrial Workers
Poverty of Sharecroppers vs Unemployed Industrial Workers Poverty has been a big issue over
the past century or so and continues to be a problem to this day in the United States. Due to the
Civil War, rural areas and industrial areas were affected by poverty. The poverty of rural
sharecroppers in 1877 was different from the poverty of unemployed industrial workers in 1939.
Even though both situations were dealing with a form of poverty, both were two completely
different situations. There were several major events that happened that caused poverty of rural
sharecroppers in 1877. Although there were various events leading up to the poverty of
unemployed industrial workers in 1939, poverty in the year of 1877 was just as bad, if not worse,
as in the year of 1939. There are several major events that happened after the Civil War that led up to
poverty. In 1865, Southern states started issuing out black codes after the Civil War. Black codes
were intended to restrain African Americans freedom. It made it illegal for an African American to
be unemployed or to quit a job, which made them slaves even though they were getting paid low
wages. In 1866, the 14th Amendment was passed by Congress, which granted citizenship for all
Americans, not just white Americans, but African Americans too. This Amendment got endorsed by
the states, which became known as the Reconstruction Amendment two years later in 1868. In 1870,
the states were obligated to enforce the 15th Amendment due the

DORIA SHAFIQ AND HER CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ARAB WOMEN S LITERATURE
Doria Shafiq was a feminist and a philosopher. She was also an editor and a poet, and one of the
principal leaders of the women s liberation movement in Egypt in the mid 1940s meaning that she
was a women s rights activist. Through her efforts, she fought against women oppression in Egypt.
Doria Shafiq was born in Tanta in the Nile Delta of Northern Egypt and studied in a French mission

was denied a chance by the dean of faculty of literature in Cairo University with the claim that she
was too modern. In 1945, Shafiq was offered an opportunity to be the editor in chief of a French
cultural and literary magazine addressing the country s elite by the wife of Egypt s then former
King Fuad I. After accepting the position, the King s wife died in 1947 and Shafiq took complete
control of the union including its finances. Through her direction, the magazine gained regional
status and also during this period is when she decided to take the opportunity and publish an Arabic
magazine that was known as the Daughter of the Nile with the intention to educate all women in
Egypt and also help them have the most effective roles in their society. Her intentions were to
ensure that women s primary social problems are solved and included to the country s policies.
Through the union to help women, she also worked to eradicate illiteracy and in order to see this

Samuel Sewall Diary
Selected excerpts from Collections of the Massachusetts Historical Society, this source were short
part of Samuel Sewall s diary. The first one is from back 1692 and the last one is around 1693.
With reading his diary, even thought it s just some parts, you can learn a lot about people of that
time perspective at the witchcraft and how much they were afraid of it.
He talked about the court and how the judge and the jury were putting the suspect under pressure till
he or she confess that they re witches. The interesting thing is that from all the people that he
mentioned, just one of them, Dorcas Hoar, was the one who confessed that he was a witch, while
most of the people either stayed quite or said that they re innocent.

Using Online Crowdfunding Platforms And Social Media
Introduction:
Methods for sourcing donations have evolved dramatically in recent years through the use of online
crowdfunding platforms and social media. Crowdfunding is defined by Oxford dictionary as the
practice of funding a project or venture by raising small amounts of money from a large number of
people, typically via the Internet. Examples of popular crowdfunding methods are Facebook s
Donate Now button along with standalone donation platforms such as Gofundme, Kickstarter,
Crowdrise, Spot.us, Gojournalim.ca, Kiva.org, and Indiegogo.
Crowdfunding is encourages a direct connection between donors and causes, investors and startups
and peers in individual funding opportunities. I hypothesize that large scale analyses of crowdfunding

Statistically the cause campaign will be more successful if a personal network is involved. (Mollick,
2013). Fundraisers can determine if, given these factors, they are more likely to find success seeking
funding from more traditional sources like banks, venture capitalists, and foundations or by
attempting to conceive and execute a viral crowdfunding campaign.
Literature Review
This literature review investigates the current crowdfunding landscape based on the following three
components. First, who is participating and who is benefiting from a business investing, charitable
giving and peer to peer lending standpoint. Second, what factors and economic theories contribute to
the ultimate success or failure of an investment project on a crowdfunding platform. And lastly, what
are the positive reward systems and negative implications for both the cause and the contributor?
The objective of this literature review is to recognize how these components affect a new generation
of funding. I will highlight reasons why these sources are rapidly growing and postulate if they are
replacing the older, highly constrained traditional funding models.

Who Crowdfunds and Who Benefits?

Crowdfunding can be used for anything from start up businesses, research funding, citizen
journalism, independent creative projects, and non profit fundraising, to individual medical expenses,
student loans debt and even financing personal luxuries. In this review I use the term cause to refer to
Pool Descriptive Story
I inhaled the cool, fresh air, and I started sprinting towards the edge of the pool. I took the leap.
My feet pushed down on the ground, and I plunged into the deep, blue, water of the pool. I sunk
down, little by little, unable to get to the surface. I started to panic. I was sinking down, I couldn t
get back to the surface, and fatally running out of air. My brain was frenzied, I was drowning! I
couldn t get to the surface, I didn t know how! The water s greedy, wet hands consuming me,
dragging me further down. Dread was in my veins, because I was running out of air. I needed to
get back to the surface. But the water just wraps itself around my my toes, up to my ankles,
knees, thighs, neck! I have no air. I don t know what to do! The water creeps up my face, forcing
itself into my lungs. Why... Why didn t I listen... Why was I so arrogant... I think as I sink further
down into the bottomless depths of the pool. My air was gone, and I was sure my life had gone
with it.

Pool pool pool POOL!!! I chant in my head. I was four years old, and driving to my parent s friend s

Water Pollution Is The Contamination Of Water
The topic for this final paper is water pollution, water pollution is the contamination of natural
water bodies that contain many hazardous chemicals that can affect human health. This can have
devastating consequences in the lower poorer countries around the world where there is no way
for the people there to have access to fresh ,and clean water. That s why in this final essay it explains
to the reader all of the hazardous ways you or your family could and even may be at risk for water

proper filtration system and it somewhat fails and the people that work there does inform the public

is why this essay provides the reader an example of how Water
Pollution can affect everyone globally, and how there are many health issues that goes with that
issue , and how it can impact any country s economic status.
