Grade Inflation Is The Biggest Issue
Is Grade Inflation Truly The Biggest Issue? Grade inflation, the belief that students are receiving
grades that they haven t worked for and therefore don t deserve. But what s so wrong about grade
inflation? When learning about this subject we also open the doors to learning about the multitude
of other problems plaguing our educational system that could use our attention much more than grade
inflation does. Through gradeinflation we re able to understand problems often forgotten about and
looked over. When researching into the topic of grade inflation one begins to see a multitude of
problems arise that have been previously ignored and have been left to continue wreaking havoc
on the educational system. Mark Oppenheimer shares a similar points of view in his article where
he discussed his opinion, that grade inflation is one of the much lesser issues and that we need to
be focusing on other things.(other things, just quote his article). His ideas are countered by the
ideas of people such as Rojstaczer who argue that grade inflation is becoming an out of control
issue that needs to be fixed (add in quotes from the book and article) In the past colleges like
Princeton and Wellesley have tried to adopt policies to help curb grade inflation. Even though it
lowered the percentages of high grades, effectively lowering the amount of grade inflation, it came
with the cost of unforeseen consequences that affected the students and staff. In his article Rojstaczer
Native American Alaska Native Cultural Project
Cultural Project: Native Americans and Alaska Natives

Introduction
The outline and presentation for this assignment generally follows the presentations from Giger s
(2009) Application of Assessment and Intervention Techniques to Specific Cultural Groups.
There are over 500 Federally Recognized tribes in the U.S., plus some additional tribes recognized
by states, plus unknown number of smaller unrecognized tribes. Many are also divided into clans
and loosely categorized into major groups. While it is impossible to totally generalize across such a
broad spectrum, the scope of this project and the focus of the information compiled are of the
generalized Native American/Alaskan Native. Where appropriate the Alaskan Native is separated ...

The history of the Native Americans after the arrival of the Europeans is a history of wars, treaties
and agreements, and broken treaties and broken agreements. As late as 1994 the governing bodies of
tribal communities have signed treaties and agreements with the U.S. (Niles, 1996). As recently as
1999 the U.S. Supreme Court almost overturned treaty rights of the Chippewa Indians of Minnesota.
By the 1800s, the lands belonging to the Native Americans were sold and purchased by nations
which rightfully did not own them. One example is the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, which
transferred 828,800 acres, encompassing 14 current states, from France to the U.S. Another example
is the purchase of the Alaska Territory by the U.S. from Russia in
Women in Oedipus Rex Essay
Women in Oedipus Rex

Charles Segal in Oedipus Tyrannus: Tragic Heroism and the Limits of Knowledge explains one of
the pivotal functions of Jocasta in Sophocles Oedipus Rex:

The second series begins with Jocasta. . . .Now Oedipus is pursuing the killer as possibly the same
as himself. . . . In this set his goal shifts gradually from uncovering the murderer to discovering his
own parents. The confidence and power that he demonstrated in the first series of encounters
gradually erode into anger, loss of control and fear (72).

The critic Ehrenberg warns that it may lead to hubris (74 75). Throughout the drama Sophocles
draws out an ongoing contrast between the godlike mastery of the king and the softer, more
balanced and selfless characteristics of Jocasta, his wife. She is a foil to Oedipus. Shortly thereafter
Creon, Jocasta s brother, is returning from the Delphic oracle with the fateful words of the god s
command: He fell; and now the god s command is plain: /Punish his takers off, whoe er they be.
Immediately Oedipus boldly launches a campaign to do what is best for his people and for himself:

I also, as is meet, will lend my aid

To avenge this wrong to Thebes and to the god.

Not for some far off kinsman, but myself,

Shall I expel this poison in the blood;

For whoso slew that king might have a mind

To strike me too with his assassin hand.

Oedipus, in his public proclamation regarding punishment for the killer of King Laius, shows more
lenient treatment toward the guilty party if he confesses his crime: I summon him to make clean
shrift to me./And if he shrinks, let him reflect that thus /Confessing he shall scape the capital charge
. Oedipus, in his cross examination of the holy man Teiresias, shows his mastery to be more human
and less godlike: Monster! thy silence would incense a flint. /Will nothing loose thy tongue? Can
nothing melt thee, /Or shake thy dogged taciturnity? The king is confronted with

Leadership in a Global Society
Fall 2015

Culture was and always going to be alive, it never dies. However, today is different, culture is
spreading rapidly, and it became vital to acknowledge at least the basics of each culture. Due to
multiplicity of cultures within societies, not any leader could lead a group of followers, but only
prototype leaders who are needed to lead diverse organizations nowadays. Leadership becomes
difficult; it requires awareness of one s culture and skills to navigate within several cultures.
Immigrants migrates every day to a new country, marketing is becoming internationally
advertised, technology, media, all of these aspects changed the way life used to be seen. Today, it
is unprofessional for leaders to not acknowledge a little background of their followers, or at least
to be aware of what is their basic values. Therefore, for leaders to be successful in maintaining a
good relation with their followers in today s diverse society and in reaching success for their
companies, I believe that they must be characterized by five major qualities. Farsighted,
collaborative, inspirational, humble and respectful are the prototype qualities whom leaders must be
portrayed as in a diverse society.
Surely one of the common goals between leaders is success. And success cannot be reached in the
absence of Leaders farsightedness and wisdom. Regardless of how

Discussion Questions:

Starbucks is an American company who try to expend its business to other country around the world.
However, each country owned and has an identity, a history, and culture. This requires to Starbucks
to analyze the current market and adapt his offers according to the needs and mores (usages).
There are several barriers facing Starbucks to the teaching people to change their consumption habits
from tea and instant coffee. First of all, the major problem is that a cultural problem. In fact tea is
still the number one beverage in China because it is a part of China s national heritage. China has

Besides, even if in the text it is written, As if Chinese market were not enough, Starbucks is
finalizing a deal to enter India. I think that if Starbucks succeed with Chinese market they could also
enter the Indian market, with the same research realize for China.

There is response to this question in the text, but I can explain my thought. When we buy a coffee
at Starbucks we don t buy only a coffee but also a corporate images, a service, a way of thinking
and living. Starbucks create its own environment, brand value. It represents the premium coffee.
There is not only coffee, even if it is the Starbucks s specialty. Also, there is breakfast, drink, gift
card, candy, lunch, and all spin off products (derivative product or tie in merchandise). The
atmospheres of the place are a huge factor in the Starbucks experience. They want us to be the first
and the most luxurious coffee.
To respond to Americans and Europeans increasing concern for the environment, Starbucks adopted
a green marketing. They contribute to protect the environment by using recycled cup and other
things. It s a way to play with the affective (emotional) component of the consumer.
This way of thinking is true in western countries, I do not know about this fact in Middle Eastern and
eastern countries.
In order to complete my answer, I also search on Internet the other values of Starbucks (Internal
values).

The Renaissance Of The North
When I think of the Renaissance of the North, I think immediately of Albrecht Dürer. His many
various works cover a large variation of subjects, ranging from the religious and heavily symbolic
to the secular world of man. His abilities to transform any medium within which he works is
tremendous. Being one of the most well known and influential artists of the Northern Renaissance,
Durer has been in immense influence since his time. Son of an expert goldsmith (Albrecht Durer
the Elder), he was influenced artistically from a very young age. Born May of 1471, being the third
child of fifteen or more siblings, his father wanted him to take on the family business. A very
promising show of artistic talent from a young age made Durer ripe for the tutelage of artist Michael
Wolgemut. Starting in 1486, Wolgemuts teachings would later heavily influence Druer s realistic
and intricate approach to any medium. Coming from Nuremberg, Germany; he would have been
exposed to some of the finest wealth in the North, often used as a hub for publishing as well as
many other luxury markets. Sharing strong ties with Italy, this would be a perfect background for
Durer as a growing artist. Starting with woodcuts intended for book illustration, he felt the tug of
passion and destiny through his art. With an artistic hunger and ready to learn, Durer made it a
point to visit his Italian neighbors at least twice in his life, once in 1494 and again eleven years
later in 1505. This was an
Stereotypes Of Mass Murderers
Mass murderers are categorized either as organized or unorganized, and inside of each type are
three subtypes. Organized killers could be disciple, pseudo commando, or set and run, while
unorganized killers could be family annihilators, disgruntled employees, or spree killers. A
disciple killer is someone who follows the dictates of a charismatic leader, such as Jim Jones.
Jones led his cult of The People s Temple to mass suicide killing 900 of his followers. His
followers drank a cyanide ¬laced punch to commit suicide. Pseudo commandos are people who are
preoccupied with weaponry on a killing. An example is James Huberty, who killed 22 people at a
McDonald s restaurant in San Ysidro using a 9 mm semiautomatic, a Winchester pump action...

The traits are either physical, psychological, social, emotional, or sexual. Physical traits include
their age, sex, and skin color. For example, Bonnie was a 23 year old white female and Clyde was
a 23 year old white male. Paranoia, depression, narcissism, suicidal, delusional, and substance
abuse all fall under the psychological category. Dylann Storm Roof is a 21 year was the
perpetrator of the 2015 Charleston church shooting in which he killed 9 African Americans. He
later stated that he hated African Americans so he killed them out of hate and that he was trying
to ignite a race war (Navarro). The next trait is social, which include being anti social, failing at
love or school, or being bullied. Christopher Sean Harper‐Mercer was the gunman at the Umpqua
community college shooting in Oregon. After the shooting, his neighbors reported that they
never saw Mercer with any friends or girlfriends and that he would always sit outside on the
balcony with very little light (Mai Duc). In the emotional side, they see themselves as victims and
they have no remorse or regret. For instance, Hitler. Violent fantasies and the desire to be intimate
are part of the sexual traits. Elliot Rodger killed 6 people before taking his own life on May 23,
2014. His reasons were that he wanted to punish women for rejecting him and to punish sexually
active men for living a more enjoyable life than
Hotel Choice Decision Is A Holistic Concept
In addition to tangible and intangible attributes, previous studies also suggest that hotel choice
decision is a holistic concept that may go beyond the simple combination of these attributes.
Utilizing the concept of brand personality, it was suggested that customers may link their perceived
hotel attributes associated with the brand and develop a sense of loyalty and preference when
making their hotelchoice decision (e.g., Lee Back, 2010; Li et al., 2014).

Brand personality is defined as the set of human characteristics associated with a brand (Aaker,
1997, p. 347), and it can serve as a set of traits inferences used by consumers to trigger a specific
pattern of attitudinal and behavior responses (Fournier, 1998). In her work, Aaker (1997) creates a
scale to measure brand personality and extracted five dimensions, including sincerity, excitement,
competence, sophistication, and ruggedness, and received empirical support from succeeding
studies (i.e. Aaker, Benet Martinez, Garolera; 2001; Ekinci Hosany, 2006; Lee Back, 2010). In
general, theses studies found that customers do perceive brands differently, and such differentiation
enables customers to have a reference to make comparisons more easily. It also enables brands to
create their own niche and identities to gain competitive advantages, such as emotional attachment to
the brand that result in trust and loyalty (i.e. Fournier, 1998; Lee Back, 2010). It was also suggested
that trust and loyalty will

No 10: Tonight (Ensemble)
Maria, Tony, Anita, Riff, Bernardo, Jets and Sharks

In this number, all the participants talk about the eventful evening they feel is ahead, each with their
own thoughts on what will happen.

There are three trains of thought:

1Riff and Bernardo thinking (in terms of their own gangs) of the fight arranged for later that evening
2Anita thinking about her nocturnal activities with Bernardo after the fight
3Tony and Maria more romantic love, idealised, though Tony has to agree with Riff, in exasperation,
to be present at the fight

Each group/individual states their case with their own line (Anita s is related to Riff/Bernardo but
adapted) and then the different melodic lines are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film version plays on this a little just after the Prologue where the Jets laugh as heartily as the
Sharks at a joke made by Bernardo at the expense of the common enemy the police.

A hemiola effect with orchestral tutti chords every three beats. The characters are getting in their
excuses ( well they began it ) first with a particularly childish version of the theme heard at 38
both quickly observe that their gangs will be the ones to stop the opposition (once again in unison
and with the same lyrics. Sondheim is careful to have no references to Jets or Sharks when both
leaders are singing). At 50 the Tonight motif is heard again. At 50 slinky, glissando saxophones
announce musically the arrival of the alluring Anita for her verse. This sort of sax writing has been
used in innumerable films and television programmes to signify a particularly alluring or sexy

Musically a return to verse one but Anita s snaky, swinging triplets in the vocal part make more of
her suggestive nature (rather than the rather direct and unsubtle quavers of Riff and Bernardo)

Anita s Tonight motif overlaps with Tony s tonight on the anacrusis. Again there is a change to A

Social Risk Factors Affect A Human-Being
Social and psychological risk factors can effects a human being in many different ways. Let
discuss a child, for example when dealing with social risk factors you must include these events
which can change a child to a delinquency; early peer rejection, parental and family risk factors,
antisocial peers, school failure, poverty, drug abuse, single parent household, domestic abuse and
physical and emotional abuse. Psychological risk factors are a little different than social risk
factors because a human being is dealing with a low IQ, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder,
conduct disorder, and oppositional defiant disorder. (Curt R. Bartol; Anne M. Bartol, 2014). These
are most of social and psychological risk factors that are associated with violence, crime of today s
society and delinquency.
Aggression is indeed the dark of human nature. Aggression can have the angry feeling or
aggressive thoughts and can be intentional rather than accidental. (Bushman, 2017). A person who
has aggressive behavior can cause physical or emotional harm to others which can range from
verbal or physical abuse. Aggression behavior can be category as social and psychological risk
factors. (What Is Aggressive Behavior?, 2017). The reason why aggression behavior can fall under
social risk factors because of the physical health, mental stages, poor family and friend relationships,
work or school environment, poverty, stress or frustration, socioeconomic factors and life
experiences of a person.
Systems Thinking
Why is systems thinking critical in developing solutions to sustainability challenges? Systems
thinking is a method of thinking that looks at the interconnectedness between different elements
rather than a linear cause and effect approach and sees patterns of change rather than fixed
snapshots . In essence it is a view on the whole picture (Anderson, R 1994). Peter Senge and Andres
Edwards expressed the importance of system thinking in that it is necessary for understanding the
dynamic complexity of a situation , anticipating the unintended consequences of proposed actions
and implementing lasting solutions (Higgins, K 2014). Obesity is a wicked problem we face today
where systems thinking is necessary as it is a sustainability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Perhaps the scarier fact however is that children are being affected too with 10% of school aged
children around the world being overweight, and a quarter of these children being obese
(Lobstein, T et al 2004). Heart disease, certain cancers, gall bladder disease, osteoarthritis,
endocrine disorders, hyperinsulinaemia, poor glucose tolerance, type 2 diabetes, hypertension,
sleep apnoea, social exclusion and depression and other obesity related conditions have been
found in young adult populations, and their need for medical treatment may last for the rest of
their life (Lobstein, T et al 2004). With the obesity epidemic trend and its health consequences on
the rise (Walley, A et al 2006) there is a dire need for developing better solutions and taking action.
Contrary to belief, obesity has no clearly defined solution. Many believe that it is a chosen
lifestyle and that by just exercising more and eating healthier the problem will be solved. This
false mindset is at the core of the problem as portrayed in the iceberg model and addresses just the
tip of the iceberg . There is in fact a bigger picture at play. Other characteristics on an individual
level like physiological and psychological factors are also a major influence. Obesity is one of the
most genetically predisposed traits (Walley, A et al 2006). Genetic studies have shown that
heritability estimates for obesity are high (typically gt;70%), which parallels with other polygenic
diseases like
Sarcoidosis Is A Rare Multi-Organ Granulomatous Inflammatory
Sarcoidosis is a rare multi organ granulomatous inflammatory disease that can affect virtually any
organ in the body. It causes the immune system to become heightened and damages the body s own
tissues. The archetypal feature of sarcoidosis is the formation of granulomas which are essentially
microscopic clumps of inflammatory cells that have grown together.( Foundation for Sarcoidosis
Research, n.d.) It is universally characterized by T lymphocytes and mononuclear phagocytes of the
granulomas.(Houston Mukherjee, 2014) CS occurs when the formation of granulomas and

When considering infectious agents and environmental exposures such as insecticides and

groups contend there is no clinical, pathologic, or microbiologic
