Mean s Search For Meaning By Viktor Frankl
Mean s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl Linda Felix Positive Psychology Dr. R. Barke
November 28, 2016 The book, in autobiographical mode, relates Auschwitz to the life of the
author Viktor E. Frankl in the concentration camps of the former Nazi Germany. It reports the
cruelty in which the SS soldiers used to mistreat the prisoners and in turn explains how the
concentration camp life in the mind of the average prisoner affected. As soon as they reached the
concentration camp, which in this case was Auschwitz, the prisoner was stripped of his personal
belongings and identity documents. They identified the prisoners with a number. Then there was
a first selection that for some would have a fatal destiny, crematoria and gas chambers. The forced
labor of the prisoners sometimes had a reward in the form of a coupon. This coupon could be
redeemed for a dozen cigarettes or a dozen servings of soup. Usually the vouchers were kept for
the soup, but thanks to them you could tell when a prisoner lost the will to live and smoked their
cigars to enjoy their last days of existence. The author divides life into the field into three phases.
Phase one, The Shock. The symptom that characterizes this phase, according to Frankl, is the shock.
As soon as they were at Auschwitz, they received a group of prisoners who spoke in every
imaginable and well fed European language. That is why the prisoners who arrived thought they
could share their situation. They adopt the state of
Similarities Between Gilgamesh And Oedipus
Heroes are extraordinary characters who carry human qualities that reassure followers of the heroes
limitations. A hero is commonly considered a god, a being with great power that is brave enough
to save whole cities. The human qualities are always their greatest fault, it comes in the image of
pride, ego, selfishness, and even denial. These flaws are represented by the heroes Gilgamesh and
Oedipus. Gilgamesh and Oedipus undertake journeys in search of a truththat will preserve their glory.
While Gilgamesh searches for immortality, Oedipus searches for a different fate, both, fearing
death. However, only one reaches their their goal. Similarly, both figures are kings; rulers of
communities which reflect their ruling. In Gilgamesh s epic, the people knew of his endeavors and
had to live with his sporadic acts because he was their rulerand accepted him as so. As declared,
Day and night his behavior became overbearing. He was their shepherd, yet powerful, superb,
knowledgeable and expert, Gilgamesh would not leave young girls alone, (199), and it is a
positive reflection of his ruling due to the community accepting his antics through their approval
of his leadership. On the other hand, Oedipus ruling was a negative concept on the fate of the
people. The people see his flaws and have their doubts of his rule once they realize he is the root of
their suffering, yet do not fully accept the reality of the situation. This god of plague guts our city
and fills the black world
Comparing Two Creation Stories In The Book Of Genesis
Some people believe that there are two creation stories in the book of Genesis. In this paper, I will
compare and contrast the events in the first two chapters of Genesis and determine if the two
creation stories theory is probable. Towards the end of this paper, I will give my own opinion on
the two creation stories theory based off of the scriptures that I read. In the beginning of Genesis
chapter one, God creates the heaven and the earthin seven days. The second verse of Genesis
chapter one tells the readers that the Earth had no form so God, an omnipresent spirit, has to bring
to order to the newly created galaxy. According to the protestant bible, God is a powerful spirit that
can speak things into existence. For example, God simply says, let there be light in the third verse
of Genesis and this scripture shows the power of God. After the first day of creation, God focuses on
dividing the waters and creating a firmament. The Bible tells the readers that the firmament later
becomes known as heaven.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before I actually took the time to reread the creation story, I thought the idea of two creation
stories was very silly. However, after I read the two chapters in Genesis, I came to the conclusion
that there are two creation stories in the book of Genesis. The truth is that the differences outweigh
the similarities between the two stories and it is hard to deny the facts when it is in the scripture.
Nevertheless, I believe that both of these stories are still essential to the Christian and Jewish faith.
My favorite creation story is the one that is told in the first chapter of Genesis because it not sexist.
Although it may sound farfetched, the second creation story focuses on a man and the woman is
basically in the Garden to serve the man. Additionally, the second story of creation does not explain
why Adam is the first human, which leads me to believe that a misogynistic male wrote this

Why Leaders Must Excel at Giving and Receiving Feedback
MBA 510 Managament Skills Portfolio

August 27, 2015

Whether a leader defines success as career progression, sphere of influence, or the continual
improvement of their management skills, there is one singular fact that all leaders must grasp in
order to be effective and impactful: they have to become great providers and receivers of feedback.
To grow in one?s ability to give and receive feedback, one ought to begin with learning to receive
feedback well by recognizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 109) of the feedback they have received. Becoming an effective leader
requires hard work, passion, and the mastery of human relation skills that make the providing and
receiving of feedback easier and more meaningful. The road to receiving feedback well is a
continuous highway whose only mile markers are the progress beyond being beholden to the three
triggers identified in Stone?s and Heen?s article, Difficult Conversations 2.0. Truth triggers are an
emotional response where the recipient chooses to ?focus on what s wrong with the feedback?
(Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 72). This decision to reject feedback simply because part of it is
incorrect?or perceived to be incorrect?prohibits a person from evaluating the fit of the feedback and
acting on the applicable, useful parts. Overcoming an evocation of a truth trigger requires the
receiver to ?dig under the label? (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 72) and seek more concrete and
definitive examples to better understand the feedback. Per Stone and Heen (2014), a relationship
trigger comes about when the recipient focuses on who is delivering the feedback rather than what
is being said. The relationship trigger tends to arise when the receiver believes the giver either does
not have the proper level of insight to give the feedback or they distrust the motives and authority of
the deliverer (Stone and Heen, 2014, p. 73).
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Branc

BRAC achieves five distinctive advantages across its enterprises:

Synergy
The integrated network of BRAC Enterprises, Development Programs and Investments together
beget a unique synergy and essentially create a 2+2=5 Effect. The surpluses generated by the social
enterprises make BRAC more self sustaining so that increasing numbers of poor people can become
self reliant.

Cross Collaboration
BRAC enterprises maximize synergy, impact and value by their targeted outreach and integrative
products and services across multiple enterprises.

Cross Subsidy
Although BRAC enterprises aim for financial returns while fulfilling the social and environmental
missions, not all enterprises are equally profitable. The cumulative surplus from BRAC enterprises

Blood Transfusions As A Mechanical Solution Essay

The Blood That Makes Me, Me

Blood transfusion are not new to the mechanical world, but now with advances through technology it
has become a much more common practice. With any advancement comes an ethical struggle to
accept, understand, and perfect. Currently, there are many difficulties when it comes to
administering blood transfusions. Blood is the basis for our existence, some believe it is more
than just what keeps us alive but it is the center of our spiral soul, and as a result controversies of
religious right, medical obligation, legal responsibility, and moral imperative. The first
experiment with using blood transfusions as a mechanical solution was in the 1600s. It was
general knowledge in the 1600s that blood was assumed to wash back and forth throughout the
body like a tide. Then in 1613, a doctor by the name of William Harvey formulated the theory of
blood circulation...and tested his theory on corpses (Murphy, 2013). Around 1639, Francis Potter
also began to explore the fascination with the idea of blood transfusions, along with several others
who were familiar with Harvey s writings. Dr. Richard Lower is the lucky one to be credited with
the first animal to human transfusion (Murphy, 2013). Though, he was not the only one during this
time performing similar experiments. In France, Dr. Jean Baptiste Denys was using lambs blood
and transfused a handful of people. As soon as it appeared to be
I Believe In Happiness And Happiness
I believe in laughing and smiling. I believe in the laugh that makes your stomach hurt, the laugh
that makes you cry and the laugh that makes you roll on the ground. Smiling is a powerful
expression in this world. A smile is contagious and it makes you feel loved and warm inside. A
small gesture like a smile can go a long way with someone. Smiling can make your day better
along with someone else s. Last year I was given the opportunity to volunteer at a local Special
Olympics event, with a group of my friends, we each worked at different events. At one event I
worked at I had to handout water bottles to the runners after they finished their race. As each
runner came to the end of the race they all had smiles on their faces. However, there was one
contestant that came in last place and started to cry as he crossed the finish line. I went up to him
to hand him a water bottle and said, You ran like the wind today. he replied sobbing, I m not
going to qualify for States with this time. I saw that he was upset with his results so I said, Cheer
up, you still have three more events to qualify. With those words I handed him my large blueberry
slushy. As I walked away I looked back and waved, he smiled back, and I could tell he was very
happy. I felt great and figured even though he was upset he lost the race a smile had changed his
day. I believe it is true that a good laugh and a smile can make you forget about the bad times and
remember all the good ones. Furthermore, I
The Hudson RIver School Of Artist Essay
The Hudson River School

The Hudson River school represents the first native genre of distinctly American art. The school
began to produce art works in the early 1820s; comprised of a group of loosely organized painters
who took as their subject the unique naturalness of the undeveloped American continent, starting
with the Hudson River region in New York, but eventually extending through space and time all the
way to California and the 1870s. During the period, that the school s artists were active (c. 1820
1870) the nation was in the process of undergoing momentous political, social, and economic change.
The works that the Hudson River School painters comprised reflected the changes that were taking

Man s small stature implies a harmony with nature as well as his place in God s larger plan. The
artists use the physical geology of America to show the vast differences between Europe and
America they do this in the form of mountains.
To Cole, the sky represented the soul of all scenery , the truly sublime in the landscape as well as
spirituality.
The lack of ruins was one of the surest signs that America was both young and new and free of the
corruption of monarchy. The corruption of monarchy was implied by the presence of ruins on the
landscape. Cole wrote, You see no ruined tower to tell of outrage no gorgeous temple to speak of
ostentation; but freedom s offspring peace security, and happiness, dwell there, the spirits of the
scene.
Storms had several different meanings. While they would eventually come to represent both the
coming sectional crisis and tension over the encroaching technology that was threatening the
landscape, their original purpose was to represent the dark and violent side of Mother Nature.
Trees came to be thought of as the true hero s of Hudson River art, thus is expressed in this quote
from Cole. They are like men...they exhibit striking peculiarities, and sometimes grand originality.
The trees of the American landscape have a primitive quality that sets them apart from Europe, and
their autumnal color surpasses all the world in gorgeousness. Water Falls came to represent
Jack London s Build A Fire
In 1910, Jack London wrote To Build a Fire with the deliberate intention of meticulously
describing the setting for this particular piece. The author intently puts all his efforts to create the
setting as an important, valuable role in his main theme. He purposely did not give a name to the
man or the dog. He wants to make sure the reader clearly understood the setting and the
importance of its role in this story. Mr. London explicitly intertwines his message on the ironic
moral reality that can fall upon each one of us. It comes down to a choice. Real consequences
happen. The irony can be seen through three different points as follows: the man s pride, the
dangers of 50 below zero temperatures, and the need to build a fire. Although the man in this story
has not been given a name, pride and arrogance loudly scream from the very beginning to the very
end. The first sign of pride sneaked out in the open from the statement, He was not alarmed by the
lack of sun. It had been days since he had seen the sun (London). The man still chose to travel on the
main Yukon trail. Do not travel alone the old timer from Sulphur Creek advised (London). Even
though the man had very little knowledge and foresight of what lay ahead on the open trail, the man
laughed at the advice cautioning him on the extreme cold. Dangers do have a way of attacking
around the corner before you even know what has hit you. Pride and arrogance protruded from the
man each step he made on this

Introduction
In July of 2007, California Pizza Kitchen (CPK), a casual dining pizzeria started in California by co
owners Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax, was faced with the decision to invest in a stock repurchase
program. Led by Chief Financial Officer Susan Collyns, the financial team of CPK was reviewing
the preliminary results for the second quarter to determine if the stock repurchase program would
provide a significant financial leverage for the company. The goal was to determine if the company
can maintain the necessary financial stability to meet the expected growth trajectory for 2008 while
utilizing debt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only would this benefit the company, but would also benefit the stakeholders who just received
the additional 50% stock dividend that CPK issued.

Financial Leverage on WACC

When analyzing which debt financing option CPK should choose, the weight average cost of
capital (WACC) will provide an approximation on how much CPK must earn in order to satisfy
the amount financed. The values of WACC for the actual, 10%, 20%, and 30% options can be
found in Appendix A. It appears that the higher the financial leverage, the lower the WACC will
be. Take for instance if CPK chooses a 30% debt to capital situation, the ROE will be 11.1 % with
a 9.2% WACC. In contrast, at the actual value, the ROE is 9% with the WACC being 9.5% and
could pose badly for CPK. As long as CPK is comfortable with the high risk of a 30% debt to
capital ratio, then it would be the most beneficial in terms of adding economic value to the company,
and for the shareholders, while providing a high financial leverage.

Financial Leverage and Cost of Equity

The effect of financial leverage on the cost of equity is prevalent in the Modigliani Miller capital
structure theory. Since the financial leverage increases the cost of equity, it can be considered one
of the disadvantages of borrowing. As shown in Appendix A, the cost of equity, at each debt to
capital ratio, increases by 0.1% as the financial leverage increases by 10%. With a higher
On an Adventure
One day Mo the fox had a brilliant idea.

I m going to go on an adventure.

It was one of those cool spring mornings with the birds singing in the trees and the grass wet with
dew. It was the perfect morning for an adventure.

So Mo packed a day bag and set out. On the way she ran into her brother Finley.

Where are you going? he asked.

On an adventure. She replied.

To the forest?

No.

The mountains?

No.

The river?

I don t know! Mo said impatiently because she was ready to explore the world. I was planning on
walking along the garden path until I got to the end.

Finley laughed at that. It s just rubbish at the end. But may I come with you?

Sure.

So Mo and Finley walked down the long garden path beautiful spring flowers stretching tall and
swaying on each side of them, the heads of vegetables and the beginnings of herbs, it was a
wonderful smell.

Suddenly, they heard an angry, Squeee!!!

Pig. they both said in fear. They hugged each other and shivered.

The bushes in the distance started trembling. The ground started trembling too. Then they saw a
dark round shadow and heard snorts, very loud snorts. They really wanted to run but they were too
frightened and now they were at the edge of the garden path. It was an open field with a pile of
rubbish in the center just like Finley had said.

Addy, the lone wolf was walking around the field.

The fox siblings were scared and didn t know if they should run from the wolf or the pig when they
Customer Relationship Management ( Crm ) At Harrah s Company
Harrah s Company has taken the Hospitably Industry to a whole new level. Companies want to get
more information about their customers behavior and build a lifetime relationship. After a long
research, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) at Harrah s came to consist of two elements
to implement marketing tools and programs across all Harrah s properties; Database Marketing
(DBM) and the Total Gold Program.
Harrah s established Database Marketing in 1997. Under this program customer will get a Gold
Card to be used while making any transaction at any Harrah s properties. The question rose, is the
marketing program successful? After analyzing the exhibits at the end of the study case, I
concluded that the program was successful. From Exhibit 1 it seems clearly that the profits nearly
double from year 97 to 99. From Exhibit 2b, it seems that 50% of the new customer that were giving
the card came back in the next three months. From exhibit 2c, the loyalty customer visiting the
casino more frequently after receiving offers. Also, from exhibit 2d, the loyal customers spend more
hours and spend more money after receiving offers.
Using CRM in the gaming industry as marketing tool can account for strength and weakness. Some
of the strengths under the data collection through the programs are: customization of customer
service, Coding Customers, Targeting Customers, sharing customer information within the
organization, improving cost management and increase profitability. One
Persuasive Reflection Paper
I never really thought about the problem that was going on until it happened to me, it was a block
hour at my old school classes 6 12th grade were together. It was a normal day just like every other,
we did everything we were supposed to. We all gathered in the gym to do our group study thing that
we always did on Thursday.
We were asked to stand up to do the pledge, when suddenly, I noticed that some people were not
standing. When it was over, we sat back down and I turned to my friend and asked what was going
on and asked why they did not stand, she looked at me and said that it was because of the Black
Lives Matter thing that was going on and because Colin Kaepernick had kneeled during the
anthem. I really didn t know how to feel, I was more upset than anything because I was always
taught to stand for the pledge and respect the flag cause many people have fought and risked their
lives for it everyday. People were disrespecting it for a reason they don t even know simply
because they saw it on T.V. and want to join the bandwagon. I went to my principal after that and
told her what had happen and how I didn t think it was right. Therefore, the next day when I came to
school they were all dressed in black and were wearing the african garments. I at that point knew
what they were doing. They were going to protest in school the whole day. I was getting really
dirty looks and things were said behind my back, but I wasn t the only one. Another girl also had

Independence
Abstract This paper looks at the recent history of Ghana and explains the series of events that led up
to Ghana s independence in 1957. The paper specifically discusses the effects of colonization in
terms of economic and social development and the cultural tensions and tribal divisions in the newly
independent Ghana. The paper then looks at the current population and government and concludes
that while Ghana is still very much a developing country, Ghana is significantly better off than its
West African peers. From the Paper The country of Ghana was the first dependent African country to
achieve independence. Various factors contributed to the effective push for independence. These
factors included constitutional reform as a means by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As already demonstrated above, violent conflicts have erupted and will continue to erupt in areas
where traditional states, traditional land tenure, chieftaincies are collapsing or there is a
fragmentation of communities. Examples of such situations are shown by many young nation states,
e.g. Nigeria, Ethiopia, Pakistan and Rwanda, which have been shaken and partly divided or
destroyed by power struggles caused by ethnic and religious conflicts. Education and Development
in Nation Building Lack of education is one of the most serious factors hindering development in
nation building. This fact was realized in the early days of nation building in Germany. Also, when
Ghana became independent in 1957, the first President realized the need for the promotion of
education in Ghana. In the case of Germany, for instance, it can be said that: From 1763, against
resistance from the nobility and citizenry, an enlightened absolutism was established in Prussia and
Austria, according to which the ruler was to be the first servant of state . The economy developed
and legal reforms were undertaken, including the abolition of torture and the improvement in the
status Jews; the emancipation of peasants began. Education was promoted (Wikipedia, History of
Germany, 2008: 12). In Ghana
