The Link Between Idiocracy And Rituals Essay
Idiocracy revolves around a man named Joe Bauers, definition of an Ordinary American who
works as U.S Army librarian; he is selected by the force for a top secret human hibernation
experiment. The examination is overlooked when the officer in control is captured for having begun
his own prostitution ring under Upgrayedd s guidance. As he wakes up 500 years in future he finds
the society so staggeringly stupefied that he s effortlessly the most intelligent individual alive. For
this particular text we will discuss the link between Idiocracy and Rituals. In order to understand the
link between Idiocracy and rituals we must consider theories of John Beattie (instrumental and
expressive actions), Carl Jung(theory of the archetype ), Emile Durkheim (rituals and society), and
lastly Sigmund Freuds psychoanalytical theory. In Idiocracy, we see the message that the director is
attempting to depict through the main character jon Bauers, to not be so immersed in the innovation
that we stop to think and get so dumb.
The first theory that will bring us closer to understanding how the movie Idiocracy portrays ritual we
must take a look at John Beattie s theory on instrumental and expressive actions. Beattie s theory
states Instrumental activities can have an expressive component, and numerous expressive activities
can likewise be done instrumentally. Like in the case he gave in the content driving a car is an
expressive action, yet in the event that the car is enormous and
The Life Of Plato s The Republic
Throughout the early books of Plato s The Republic, Socrates and his interlocutors Adeimantus,
Polemarchus, Glaucon, Thrasymachus, and to a lesser extent Cephalus, explore what it means
to be just and why justice is preferable to injustice. This topic was brought up in a monologue
from Cephalus, who is an old patriarch that represents Greek tradition and thus offers a traditional
view of justice. One by one, all of the interlocutors attempt to define justice, with Socrates
disagreeing with at least some part of each definition. After not being able to define justice for a
majority of the early portions of The Republic, Socrates finally comes to the conclusion that [the
just man] doesn t let each part in him mind other people s business or the three classes in the soul
meddle with each other, he arranges himself, becomes his own friend, and harmonizes the three
part (443d2 6). In other words, the just man lets each part of his soul rule itself. The rational part
of our soul seeks truth, the spirited part of our soul seeks honor, and the appetitive part of our soul
seeks our more earthly desires, such as sex, food and economic success. After this, the conversation
would seem to be over. As we know, however, The Republic is not even half over. There are several
critical factors behind the continuation of The Republic, but it all has to do with unanswered
questions, continued debate and, above all, digression.. While creating the city in speech, Socrates
make several
Baby Boomer Career Trends
Baby Boomers Affect on Career Trends Change is the only constant in life (ancient, Heraclitus).
The world is constantly changing and evolving. Businesses and occupations are two of the most
malleable topics in today s economy with never ending highs and lows. A strong stressor in today
s generation is what jobs will be attainable as they grow up. Although many new occupations will
be added as this generation matures, the most will be in personal care aides and healthcare due to
the need to care for the aging Baby Boomers. Generation Y is gradually entering the world of
business with each passing year. With each adult comes a necessary occupation that must be fit for
the individual and the growing economy. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states: Among
occupations, those in healthcare are projected to add 2.3 million jobs, about 1 in 4 new jobs.
Occupations in food preparation and serving, personal care services, and sales are projected to add
another 2.4 million jobs. Together, these 4.7 million new jobs represent approximately one‐half of
all employment gains over the coming decade (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).... Show more

The need for adaptation in the job market is due to how many new occupations are necessary to
account for. Approximately 184.1 million people will have jobs within the next decade
(Marketing Charts). With millions of adults assuming jobs each year, there will need to be a form
of somewhat stable equilibrium: what the job market needs and what the incoming young adults
are willing to perform. Naturally, people will flock to jobs that are in need of employees due to
the necessity of supporting oneself and if need be, others. The growing Generation Y will need to
fill in the most occupations in the field of personal care aides and
John Coleman And The Rock House Essay
John Coleman Boyd was born March 16, 1802. He settled in Chambers County, Alabama. He
purchased land that was previously held by they Creek Indians and built a house. The original
house was built with native fieldstone by slave labor. The home was known as the Rock House.
Under the rock rooms there was room to store fruit, vegetables, and other produce. There was a
smoke house for curing and preserving meat products. These were all a necessity to survive. In
the grove there were log cabins that were the slave quarters. Today all that remains of the cabins
is a lone chimney. John Coleman Boyd had about 1,900 acres and he acquired other properties.
After looking in further it was shown that John Coleman s total estate was valued at $88,000 and
that he owned 42 slaves. John Coleman told a good friend Sam Jeter that a man should not stay
in one place too long. Because of this John Coleman went to Northeast Texas there he purchased
some land. He made his decision to move to Texas, he got the wagon train to be loaded and ready
to leave. The night before they were going to leave John Coleman suffered a stroke. During his
illness John Coleman continued to manage his Boyd Tank properties by having some slaves pull
him around the farm in a rickshaw type cart. During his illness his wife Elizabeth sold some of his
properties in Texas. He later dies on March 2, 1861. William Ewell Boyd was the first child of
William and Mary Ann Boyd. He was born October 8, 1863. Many called him
The Effects of Advertising
The Effects of Advertising

Advertising is considered a paid communication through a non personal medium in which the
sponsor is identified and the message is controlled. Variations include publicity, public relations,
product placement, sponsorship, time shifted advertising, underwriting, and sales promotion. Every
major medium is used to deliver these messages such as the television, radio, movies, magazines,
newspapers, the internet, and billboards. Advertisements can also be seen on the seats of grocery
carts, on the walls of an airport walkway, and the sides of buses, or heard in telephone hold
messages or in store PA systems nearly anywhere a visual or audible communication can be
placed. (Wikipedia, 2006) Advertising can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is absolutely no way to avoid it. For instance, a 1987 survey conducted by the city of St.
Louis found twice as many billboards in black neighborhoods as white. Almost 60% of the
billboards in the black neighborhoods advertised cigarettes and alcoholic beverages. In another
study of seventy three billboards along nineteen blocks in a black neighborhood in Philadelphia,
sixty advertised cigarettes or alcohol. In a 1989 survey by the Abel Foundation, 70% of the 2,015
billboards documented in the city of Baltimore advertised alcohol or tobacco products. Three fourths
of the billboards were in predominately poor African American neighborhoods. In fact, the Center for
Disease Control estimates that billboards advertising tobacco products are placed in African
American communities four to five times more often than in white communities. Furthermore, the
advertisements are usually for menthol cigarettes, which are more popular with African Americans
and which have additional significant medical effects. (Randall, 2005) According to an article found
in a Washington DC newspaper, minorities, particularly blacks, have been disproportionately
targeted by the tobacco industry giants. The internal company records of R.J. Tobacco Company
and Brown Williamson Tobacco Corporation show how they ran advertising campaigns in
magazines, on billboards, buses and other media to attract blacks to mentholated brands such as
Salem and Kool. Also, a 1978 corporate memo profiles the

You can greatly increase creativity and problem solving with the use of cross functional teams
because of their composition. Members of cross functional teams come with a diversity of
experience, expertise, and knowledge. This diversity can help broaden perspectives and create
synergy, where interaction of the members create a greater effect than the sum effects of each
member acting alone, leading to a high level of creativity.
Cross functional teams are not without disadvantages. The team can take significantly longer to
develop cohesion because members come from different experiences and backgrounds. Moreover, a
team leader must take care managing team relationships carefully because there may be a high level
of conflict in these teams due to unit rivalry, egos, and possible conflict between the interests of the
various parts of the organization represented by team

The Impact On The American Youth During The Jim Crow Era
Section 2: Investigation In America there has always been two debating sides when it comes to
the subject of races, the fight between racist Americans and oppressed people of color ,have made
a mark in American history through the Jim Crow era. Jim Crow, or Jump Jim Crow, was the name
of a minstrel practice performed in 1828 by its author, Thomas Dartmouth ( Daddy ) Rice, and by
many imitators. The term came to be a derogatory epithet for blacks and a designation of their
segregated life. During the Reconstruction era, carpetbaggers from the north moved to the South and
formed a coalition with freedmen (freed slaves) and whites who supported Reconstruction. Together
they politically controlled former Confederate states for varying periods.
From the late 1870s, and the end of Reconstruction, Southern state legislatures, no longer
controlled by carpetbaggers and freedmen, passed laws requiring separation of whites from persons
of color. These laws were called Jim Crow, which became a derogatory epithet for blacks and a
designation of their segregated life. Anyone of color, or of probable or strongly suspected black
ancestry in any degree, was a person of color. ( Jim Crow Laws Were Meant to Enslave) The effect
on the youth during the Jim crow era was seen as early as the separation of ethnicity in schools. The
schools for white children and the schools for negro children shall be conducted separately.

Short Acting Barbiturates
Like alcohol, barbiturates also bind to the GABA A receptors to continuously arouse the
neurotransmitter GABA. This causes the inhibitory effects of the neurotransmitter to be excessive,
which causes the drug to be a depressant. Large amounts of this drug being consumed causes the
respiration rate to be reduced. Unfortunately, this can contribute to death because breathing can be
stopped completely. The drug is usually consumed to treat anxiety and causes users to become calm
and relaxed. There are two types of barbiturates called short acting and long acting barbiturates.
Short acting barbiturates causes rapid onset and the effects span for about two or three hours.
Barbiturates that are considered long acting will have a slower onset, but... Show more content on

The victim will experience a level of intoxication that will not allow memory of the events that
