Exile As A Catalyst For Self Reflection And Personal...
Exile is one of the most severe punishments, yet it is a catalyst for self reflection and personal
development. Aldous Huxley s World State is presented through the interactions of characters who
are, at some degree, exiled. Whether physically, or metaphysically, these characters find isolation
to be as punishing as it is insightful. One particular individual, John, stands among the rest of the
characters as one who society rejects. In Malpais, John was ostracized as the son of a
promiscuous, New World er . In London, John was never truly accepted by society as an equal, but
rather looked at like a piece of meat . John s position between civilizations allows him to develop a
unique position on society. Through his experiences with social rejection, John develops as one of
the most complex characters in literature. John illuminates the meaning of the work through serving
as a unique human character that the reader can identify with. His thoughts and actions, bold, as
they are self destructive, give a unique view of of a human society without humanity. John dwells not
within the society of Malpais, which rejects him for his heritage, nor within London, which rejects
him for his misguided idealism. Instead, John finds sanctum in what he learns from Shakespearean
literature. The rift developed between John and his birthplace on the savage reservation represents
his exile from a normal society to the World State s, perfect society. John s unwillingness to be with
Bioterrorism Advantages And Disadvantages
BIOTERRORISM

INTRODUCTION

Bioterrorism is the use of infectious agents that are harmful to humans as weapons of terrorism.
Agents of bioterrorism include bacteria, viruses, rickettsiae, fungi, and biological toxins.
Bioterrorism can cause high mortality and morbidity thus lead to social disruption and public panic.
This phenomenon already occur in 17 century where American revolution, colonial British military
officers gave blankets containing smallpox scabs to native Americans with serious intent to kill
them by 1763. In 1944, American and British scientists developed and produced thousands of an
anthrax bombs during World War 2. However, these bombs were tested but never actually used in
warfare. The latest usage of biological weapon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For an example, in 1996, a major cholera outbreak occurred in Penang with subsequent spread to
the other Peninsular States which results in a total of 1,182 reported cases and 231 detected
carriers. Even though there were no fatalities, the consequences of direct and indirect costs of the
outbreak had adverse implications in several sectors. While in 1997, an outbreak of The Hand,
foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in Sarawak, mainly during the months of June and July, gained a
lot of attention because of the 31 pediatric deaths cases. In 1999, a deadly emerging
paramyxovirus called Nipah virus were isolated during a large outbreak of viral encephalitis
resulted in 283 cases including 109 deaths. This was the first report of such infection in the world.
This virus has many of the physical attributes to serve as a potential for bioterrorism. The outbreak
cause widespread fear and panic because of its high mortality and the inability to control the spread
of the disease. This deadly virus, believed to be introduced into pig farms by fruit bats then spread
easily among pigs and was transmitted to humans who came to close contact with infected animals.
The virus was also transmitted to the other animals such as cats and
Harriet Tubman Thesis
Rough Draft Buddha once said, In separateness lies the world s great misery; in compassion lies
the world s true strength. By this he meant that when we are separated by the things we classify
people by in society, we are not truly happy. Only if we unite can we be all be satisfied with our
successes. Buddha is the founder of the religion Buddhism, one that focuses on suffering in life. He
tries to better the world and its people, much like Jones, Chavez, and Tubman. They were all great
defenders of human rights, but the most impactful of all was Harriet Tubman. Tubman was born into
slavery. As a child, she was neglected and treated horribly. Even when she was supposed to be freed,
her owner broke some laws and refused. Growing up, she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They all accomplished a lot in their respective fields, but Harriet Tubman had the most effect. She
used the Underground Railroad to help hundreds of slaves go free; served in the Civil War as a
cook, nurse, spy, and a military leader; and she devoted her life and what little money she had to
others. Throughout the entire course of her life, she had risked her life countless times and
sacrificed so much for the sake of others. There are several others like Harriet Tubman in our world,
but not enough. It is important for us to defend our human rights because they can make our society
Okonkwo A Tragic Hero In I Fall Apart
A tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her
own destruction, someone who works hard to achieve a goal, even if it means taking a downfall,
and a person who brings honor around them. Okonkwo from I Fall Apart , fits all the characteristics
of being a tragic hero. In the book it gives many examples/ reasoning on why i think that, to support
my statement.

Importance is the state or fact of being of great significance or value. Having great significance is
what Okonkwo did. Being a tragic hero throughout a community, you ll have to be important to
the society. Having importance means being known. In the book, it reads, Okonkwo was well
known throughout the villages and even beyond (page 1). This supports that not only was he
known from his village, but other places too. He was a man of action, a man of war ,(page 10).
Actions involve the well being of others, Okonkwo used actions to show his place that he stands.
Actions speak louder than words, maybe that s why people looked up to him. One more example, He

He accomplishes the goals he sets and accomplishes what is important to him As a young man of
18, he had brought honor to the villages by throwing amalinze the cat . Doing that was hard
enough, not to mention the fact he was 18 at the time. Okonkwo works hard for what he wants,
He was the greatest wrestlers of all the 9 villages , (page 8). To be the greatest you d have to work
for it. He works for what he wants, until he achieves his goals, that s what makes him fall into this
category. Another quote to explain how Okonkwo works hard to succeed is on page 13, chapter 2.
During planting season Okonkwo worked daily on his farm until, from cock crow until the
chickens went to roost . He is successful, he likes to succeed. He works until the goal is met, and
that s exactly why he fits under the category of a tragic
The Day Of The World Country
Living in a 1st world country we never really think outside our borders, we mainly only realize
our problems in our country. Which could be anything from not being able to eat tomorrow to
my parents won t buy me the latest iPhone . Each country has their poor and their wealthy. Sure,
we see those commercials of starving 3rd world country children, who have little to nothing and
we feel horrible. We hear about wars and see the horrible tragedies they face but we will never
fully understand the horror or devastation they ve lived through until we walk in their shoes. We
always find the things we see on the news appalling, but truth is most of us won t do anything.
After Paul thanks Jack, a photographer he replies I think if people see this footage they ll say, oh
my God that s horrible, and then go on eating their dinners (Hotel Rwanda). It doesn t mean we are
bad people, we all have our own struggles and strife. We are all human, and to be human means
different things to different people. I believe that this film showed both sides of the human
condition, one being a genuinely decent human and the other showing people striped of all right or
wrong conciseness. You would always think why don t people stop this kind of brutality? and why
don t they have a sense of wrong?! The Hutus may have had parents or guardians who installed in
them that sense of hate, or someone had a way with words and persuaded them that the Tutsis were
their rivals. Just like Hitler

important economic topics. The Price of Everything is one of his five remarkable books. According
to book reviews Roberts is a gifted writer. The main topics discussed throughout The Price of

How To Get Rid Of Plastic Bags
Around the world, plastic bags are used by everyone everywhere. Some places you even will have
to pay 5 to 15 cents for them, some places where you have to pay is Boulder, Colorado,
Brownsville, Texas, and even in Washington D.C. We can all avoid this problem simply by just
switching to reusable bags. Most stores can offer you to pay for the reusable bags and you get to
keep them, and be able to use them as often as you would like, but if you would like to you could
even DIY (do it yourself), but then you have to provide materials for yourself. People don t
understand what the plastic bags can do when they re just getting rid of them and just throwing them
where they please. They re not only polluting the air, but who knows where they will
The Beauty Of Beauty
The beauty industry is estimated to be worth $445 billion, but why? Over the years, there has
been a huge increase in people buying beauty related products. Most men and women strive to
appear more attractive or to at least more comfortable in their bodies. Media has the ability to
showcase what people think is beautiful and influence others to think the same way, even though
there is not just one way to look. Media can portray unrealistic and unattainable beauty standards,
which can cause low self esteem, negative body image, and conformity. Advertising can cause
consumers to develop anxiety, low self esteem, and low self confidence. Many men and women
struggle with their bodies and how they perceive them, so when they see an ad for a new weight
loss pill with some random celebrity exclaiming how amazing it is and how they should buy it,
they can be greatly impacted by it. In a study done by YWCA called Beauty at Any Cost, it was
shown that only 30 minutes of advertising can change the way a young adult perceives their body
shape, showing how influential advertising can be. Also, in their study it was found that teenagers
who watched commercials portraying underweight models lost more self confidence and became
unhappy with their own bodies. A new trend in media includes Instagram models. Mainly found on
the explore page of the photo sharing app Instagram, these models are often paid to endorse
products like waist trainers or Fit Tea and other variations of said product.
Lil Wayne s Rhetorical Techniques Used In Advertising
2016 was the year that Samsung introduced one of their latest smartphones to their lineup of
products, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Samsung was most proud of the water resistance ability
of their new flagship phone, and what better way to showcase that ability, than too have one of the
most popular living rappers, Lil Wayne, to appear in a commercial to prove it. Samsung s Galaxy
S7 commercial not only aired on TV, but also went viral on social media sites, such as; YouTube,
Facebook, etc. Michelle Castillo, wrote in her article on the CNBC website that, Marc Mathieu,
Samsung s chief marketingofficer, mentioned that Samsung s ad agency, Wieden+Kennedy, came up
with the idea for the new ad campaign with Lil Wayne in mind as the spokesperson,... Show more

This method can either stir up positive or negative emotions in the reader, but either way its
intent is to sell an idea, belief, a product, or to convince the reader to pick a side. This commercial
uses pathos in a couple different ways. Humor is the most obvious way pathos is being used, it is
the setting of the entire commercial. When Wayne, Max, and his friend on the phone, Kenny, are
saying, Whaaaaaat! , it is meant to be silly and fun. It is even funny just watching them pour
champagne on their smartphones. Humor promotes laughter, and laughter releases endorphins in
our brain that trigger the happy feels, and puts us in a good mood. It is well known, that if you
can get the customer to laugh, then you are more likely to sell to that customer because laughter
helps them drop whatever guard they are putting up. Another way this ad uses pathos, is by
appealing to the fear of dropping our phone in water and damaging it. We all can relate to this
type of accident, and we are always trying to prevent it, so we don t have to worry about forking
out the big bucks to repair or replace our beloved smartphone. In the commercial, Max pouring
champagne on his phone and it shorting out, is a perfect example of pathos, by showing us that if
you get your phone wet, it will damage it, unless you get the new Galaxy S7
Essay on Developing a Land Use Plan for Haida Gwaii
Haida Gwaii is a region of the Queen Charlotte Islands off the coast of British Columbia, Canada.
The First Nations as people have created a Land Use Vision which they wish to see implemented
and taken to account with the provincial land use plan in the Haida Gwaii ecosystem. The Province
of British Columbia along with representatives of the communities have come together to create a
land use plan that is intended to protect, conserve, and allocate the usage of natural resources in a
sustainable way. It seems as though the province and the Council of the HaidaNation have different
values when it comes to the decision making and therefore must work together using co

Though the canaries cannot tell the miners what is wrong the indigenous people can. First Nations
pass their knowledge from generation to generation often through stories. In the book The Boy Who
Became the Killer Whale the elders were expected to teach the younger generations how to complete
traditional methods of weaving rope and carving cedar (White, 2001).
Ontology
The First Nations people of Haida Gwaii see themselves as one with the ecosystem. They see
humans as being part of the land and believe they owe their existence to Haida Gwaii. Yah
Guudang is a term used to describe their respect for all things living (Council of the Haida
Nation, 2005). Yah Guudang is the celebration of the spirits and lives that are entwined as well as
our responsibility for the future generations. The indigenous people of Haida Gwaii believe that
they as well as everything else on the land has come up from the ocean, and have been shaped as
well as nourished by it (Council of the Haida Nation, 2005)Page 15). The people have grown and
developed with the land and have always been a part of it. The proposal instilled by the province
limits the planning process to only the land. The First nations consider the land and ocean to be
connected on many levels and a marine planning process should therefore be developed (Council of
the Haida Nation,
Saddle A Horse Saddle Analysis
Saddling a horse is not as easy as beginners think. The rider needs to have a saddle,

blanket, girth, and a pair of long or short rains to guide the horse. Knowing how to saddle a horse

correctly is extremely important because if the horse is not saddled correctly the rider can get

seriously hurt. The items listed above are the main five tack you need.

The three main things the rider has to have to saddle the horse is the blanket, a saddle,

Roxana Quotes
Roxana is the cause for the loss of her children, because she continues to stay with her husband
when he becomes an irresponsible, poor man, indicating how she is a selfish mother. She talks
about the different chain of causes, which leads her to the loss of her children. In the beginning of
the novel, she talks about how his business started to decline and that he had to shut down his trade.
With five children, they began to struggle, especially him. Instead of him buying a house and
providing for his family, he neglected it, liv d on as he did before, kept his Horses and Men, rid

Roxana always wanted him to leave, but she thought that if he did, he would starve his family, and
he did. She says, ... I was dreadfully frighted at last, and the more when I look d into my own
Circumstances, and considered the Condition which I was left; with five Children, and not one
Farthing Subsistance for them, other than about seventy Pound in Money, and what few things of
Value I had about me, which, tho considerable in themselves, were yet nothing to feed a Family,
and for a length of Time too (52). Here, she noticed that he is really gone, and now she is scared,
because she cannot take care of her and her children without him. This chain of event connects to her
husband s negligence. Since she made the decision to stay with her husband, despite the hardships
that he placed his family and himself in, he left her. So, she cannot take care of her nor her
children because she is not familiar with being an independent woman living in a male dominant
world. This cause could have been avoided if she were to leave him when she realized that he was
becoming broke and irresponsible; however, she was dependent on him because he made the
money and she worked in the private sphere. Overall, this connects to Hobbes philosophy of the
chain of events, because her husband s negligence and him leaving leads to the next event that
brings us closer to the loss of her children the will, and, because of her husband leaving her, she had

Reducing The Federal Minimum Wage
The topic of increasing in the federal minimum wage has been hotly debated in Congress and
between politicians and activists since the most recent increase to $7.25 in 2009. The Fair
Minimum Wage Act of 2013 proposed a $10.10 federal minimum wage increase but failed in
Congress, while a more recent proposition, the 2016 Raise The Wage Act, hopes to put wages at
$12 per hour by the year 2020 (14). Propositions like these seek to allow lower income working
families to earn a living wage but they have faced resistance by conservatives. Stagnation of
wages has caused various cities and states to spearhead minimum wage increases at a local level,
with twenty nine states now having wages higher than the federal minimum (13). Raising the
federal minimum wage to $12 an hour would correct for years of deteriorating wage values and
would pull hard working families out of poverty while lessoning income inequality and boosting
the economy from the bottom up with minimal costs to businesses. The current federal minimum
wage is too low to allow people to earn a living wage and has failed to keep up with increases in
inflation, productivity and economic growth in recent years. Wages have been fixed at $7.25 an
hour since 2009, resulting in a 40 hour work week that allows one to earn only $15,000 a year, an
amount that lies just barely above the poverty line (13). If the worker is responsible for children
and works full time to earn this amount, they drop below the poverty line. These low

Fishing for Answers

Overfishing to deplete the stock of fish in a body of water by too much fishing. Overfishing can be
defined in many way, all of them leading to the same conclusion: Catching too many fish is bad for
the environment. Overfishing is an unsustainable use of the oceans. Overfishing occurs because fish
are captured at a faster rate than they can reproduce. Also advances in fishing technology and an
increased demand for fish has led to overfishing, causing several marine species to become extinct.
Despite counter arguments, overfishing is harmful and needs to be stopped because we are depleting
our fishing industry, impacting the food web, and creating economical dangers. Without creating
stricter regulations, the fishing industry will continue to diminish. Due to advances in technology,
fishermen can access places that have never been fished. At first, it was the creation of the simple
trawler boat which had a minimal impact on our environment. It was the creation of the factory
fishing vessels that have taken over and led to mass amounts of overfishing. These boats use
down scan sonar, side imaging, and GPS giving them an unfair advantage over the fish they are
after. Using nets that are 50 meters wide and able to hold a weight greater than two medium sized
planes, the boats trawl depths of up to 170 km deep. On board, the ships are processing plants.
These plants process, package, and serve as
