The History Behind The Wizard Of Oz
The History behind the Wizard of Oz Stories have deeper meaning than what they appear. Life
events such as the government, economy, or something happening to an individual can inspire them
to express themselves through writing. In the original story of The Wizard of Oz , it tells a tale far
more than people realize. The story portrays the government during the time period and hidden
symbolism within the story and characters. The Wizard of Ozwas written in 1900 by L. Frank Baum.
In America, a heavy presence of populism was upon the land. Dana Moore stated, Populism has
many characteristics similar to Socialism. The Populists goals were to free the coinage of silver
and other reforms, such as a progressed income tax on the American citizens and the election of
senators in the government. In addition, the Populist Party was formed mostly of lower class
farmers. One of their main goals was to regulate railroads due to the high price to pay to transfer
their crops. (Moore) Ranjit Dighe states in his article, New research about L. Frank Baum indicated
that he had little sympathy for the Populists or Bryan . By Dorothy, representing the American
people, wears silver shoes. This symbolizes the silver standard in America. There are other
references throughout the story that refer to money. For example, the Witch of the West summons
her minions with a silver whistle and a golden cap. USAGold.com stated, The references to gold and
silver echo the prominence of monetary
My First Day at College and the Friends I met Essay
My first day at college had a great meaning to me. It was the beginning of my dream to go to
college and to pursue a higher education.I had so many emotions running trough me , it was the first
time being in this level and the first time paying for education myself. I always wanted to be a
college student, a serious student who would decide what to be in her life. The first day at Truman
College was on August 25th, 2005. The first year of my freshman year and Fall semester. That
day I had so many things on my mind, from what I was going to wear to figure out where the class
number and the floor it would be located at. It was actually a day full of new experiences. I had just
turned 28 years old. By the time I had a full time job in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I never took a class like this before, and it was a totally different system than a traditional class that I
used to attend. I considered that would help me later in the future with other classes. Thus, I loved
the idea of taking an English class in this kind of environment, moreover, I was proud to be part
of it. In addition, I thought it was a good idea to use laptops in class since I owed one at home,
and I was able to relate with the purpose of the class. For instance, I could enter an electronic
group forum from home, so we were able to share ideas an opinions without being in the classroom.
Also, I found very handy to be able to send my homework electronically to my teacher.
On the other hand, one of the greatest experiences I had in the first day was, not only being in a
interesting English class, but being part of a diverse and cultural international class. Well, I call it
this way because to me, it was the first impression. Although, I always wanted to study abroad and to
be an international student , English 100, gave me the opportunity to meet and share experiences with
people from other nationalities. Although most of my classmates did not speak Spanish, which is
my native language, I was able to communicate in English with them. Moreover, I was interested in
learning another language; thus, I met a girl from
Violation Of Social Norms
At a very early age, children learn about social norms to help them become proper citizens in
society. Examples of some social norms that students learn are: do not yell in the library, do not
speak unless spoken to, do not talk to strangers, and close the door when you use the restroom. As
you grow older, these rules become unspoken because everyone knows how to act like a proper
individual in society. The textbook definition of a social normis something that is a rule of behavior
that society accepts. (Bicchieri) Since everyone knows these unsaid rules of society, what would
happen when someone decides not to follow these rules? What would people think and react? In
this paper, I discuss my violation of the social normdon t talk to strangers and discuss what I learned
from this experiment.
The social norm that I chose to violate was initiating conversation and talking to strangers on public
transportation. By doing this I deviated from the unspoken rule which says that you should not talk
to strangers and that you should not interact with others on public transportation because of the
possibility of them harming or assaulting you. From doing this activity, I learned that power
dynamics exist in every situation and that by violating a social norm I, as a young woman, put myself
in a vulnerable position. I chose to make this decision to talk to strangers on public transport
because it seemed relatively safe and within my zone of comfort, considering

Just because they have different coloured skin and practice a different religion does that make
them someone less than you? In the end without the color and religion barriers aren t you just a
human being so why treat each other differently? Why aren t white people bullied because of
their beliefs? Will racism ever go away? These questions also helped build some connections to
world. Some connections I instantly made to the world were about how poorly some people are
treat because of their race. In the book Muslims were forced to leave their homes and move
because of a political crisis and resettle somewhere else. This is occurring even today. Take
America for example. Trump and a larger part of America thinks muslims are terrorist and have
enforced a muslim ban. This has forced many muslims to reconsider living in USA. Another
connections to the world is of genocides. The WW2 genocide mentioned in the book, reminded me
of the Rwandan genocide and the terrible aftermath of it. This story makes a lot of connections to
the social problems that have been carried on from the 1900 s to present

Those who showed high level need for power have a strong need to work in positions that allow
them to lead and influence others. Lastly, the need for achievement want to take personal
responsibility for their success or failure. High n achievement tend to become entrepreneurs or
small business owners. If employers where to implement this theory in the hiring process people
would be working jobs more suited to their needs in turn rising the level of productivity.
McClelland Theory help me realize what truly inspired me was achievement. Ever since I was
young I always worked better alone because the only way I felt comfortable failing was when it
was fully on my own account. Entering high school from grade 9 11 I was very focused and was
a well rounded student. I did extra curricula s and maintained a 3.45 grade point average and I
always set a high standard for myself. In Grade 12 I moved back to Canada I struggled I went
through depression because I wasn t achieving what I wanted to achieve. I was down about
myself and in addition to that I was adjusting to a completely new school. At that time, I was
taking high school courses in the sciences and I was receiving very mediocre grades. Through trial
and error, I realised that business was an area that genuinely interested me. I had to look at
achievements through a different lens. Achievements can be smaller and less substantial for
example, asking myself if I am learning and If I am progressing. In addition

Serena glanced up at the ceiling as her feet dangled below the freezing, cold water below her. She
spun in circles, jumping up from the water while the bright, beautiful blue dolphins circled
around her. Serena jumps up one last time, falling on her back as she hits the water. I can not
believe I am here, she thinks to herself. It s a wonderland, a paradise in fact. I love it here. Serena
still facing the ceiling begins to slowly stray away from her previous spot in the water as the
dolphins follow along side her. Her head turns towards the football field on her right and then
turns to the soccer field on her left. She admires the fields and begins to hear band music over
powering the loud noises coming from the active games going on. Serena s eyes start to close as
she drifts into the deep end of the pool. She continues to take in the band music as it the pace starts
to slow. The dolphins form around her to keep in away from the sidelines. Serena now in a trance
falls into her dream. She is back in the city following the signs that lead her to the swimming pool.
The signs all pointed to it; everywhere in town there was a sign aiming towards the new sensory

Ponce De Leon Biography
Juan Ponce De Leon was a Spanish explorer. In addition to being an explorer, he was also a
soldier, governor, and farmer. Ponce De Leon s exact date of birth is not known. Many believe he
was born around 1460 to 1474 in Santervas De Campos, Spain. He died in July, 1521, in Havana,
Cuba. He died after he was shot by a poisoned arrow from the Indians who were trying to protect
their land. Like most explorers, Ponce De Leon explored for the fame and fortune. He needed a
job because he worked as a squire for a knight until the war ended. After the war ended around
1492, there was not a job for him so he had to find something else to do. Ponce De Leon also
became an explorer because he wasn t the oldest child in his family. This meant he wouldn t
inherit wealth or land when his parents died. Ponce De Leon had to go out and find a way to earn
a living. Ponce De Leon was one of about 1200 men who went with Christopher Columbus on his
second voyage to Hispaniola in 1493. Columbus had left on his first voyage to search for a new
trade route to Asia and ended up discovering new land. Trading for jewels, spices and silks was
very important to Spain and a new trade route was needed. When Columbus returned to Spain, he
told everyone about the new world he had discovered. Columbus planned a second voyage to the
new land and had a lot of people interested in going with him to search for riches. Ponce De Leon
was one of them. They had seventeen ships on the second voyage. King Ferdinand

experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.
All of us, at one point in our lives, have to make the difficult decision of the goals we want to
work towards. We all have certain goals, standards, and expectations of ourselves. Not everyone
will figure out what they want to be right away, and some will know from the very beginning. My

Free University Education
The essential and the basic level of education should be made free for all and sundry as it plays one
of the most important roles in life of every human being in establishing and polishing his

world has changed and moved so much that without education it is really tough for someone to live.

However, there are also some advantages of free education in the universities. Although
scholarships are intended for the disadvantaged few, the disadvantaged are just few. Scholarships
help only a handful, for others providing free education would come as a great relief. There is less
stress on students including the work and paying the tuition fees, which is truly good for their
general health, as they are already enough stressed for social life and exams. There will be a
higher number of students learning and that increase the literacy rate of the nation will probably
reduce the quantity of young people who are involved in wrong or the bad activities such as
getting addicted to drugs, gambling, etc. Students who come from a low family background
would have a lot of time for their studies, for them to relax and for themselves as they won t be
working for hours and fighting for extra shifts in order to pay their fees. There would be equal
opportunities for both the rich and the poor students as not now and the poor students won t blame
their fate. There would be better governance. Educated people would not only just better choices in
electing their representatives but also are better equipped to question corruption and misuse of
power. There would be improvement in the quality of life. Free schooling would lead to more
