Building A Computer And The Computer
Building a computer
When people hear that some people build their own computer, they automatically decide that it
must be some very challenging task that requires a wizard of all things electronic. I will
demonstrate otherwise, by starting with what parts to purchase for a good computer tailored to
what is being planned on being done with it. Be it playing games, video editing, or just simple
internet browsing. Moving onward to an almost as essential step as putting it together: what tools
are going to be needed before we begin the actual assembly process. As one can most likely deduce
it does not matter how much is spent or what parts are purchased; if the tools to assemble it are not
gathered, getting nowhere is all that is going to get ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CPU or central processing unit is what executes the programs. It is also where a majority of the
money that is spent is going. Next, we are going to procure a motherboard which, in a sense,
connects a majority of the other components together so that they can work together. RAM (random
access memory) is next on the list. Whatever data is in operation at the time is going to be stored
on the RAM so that it can be quickly accessed. The amount one gets should be decided on what is
being planned on doing with it if just browsing two to four gigabytes if fine, but if editing or
coding is planned eight or more should be purchased. A power supply is, as you can probably
deduce, what powers the computer itself. Think about this: what happens if you try to start a car
with no battery? Well, the same thing is going to happen to a computer should we have decided it
was a bright idea not to get one or install it. Now, how are we going to plan to fit all the cool things
that are going to be downloaded once we get the computer up and running? By getting a hard
drive. It is where all of the crucial data is going to be stored. We are going to put all of this in
whichever computer case that the user has chosen. These are all the parts necessary for an average
browsing and minimal intensive program build.
Although, should one decide that a gaming or very intensive computer is necessary a few extra
parts can and should be purchased. For example: a
American Red Cross Analysis
It s amazing how far United States have come along when it comes to caring for an individual
that you don t know, yet you are doing everything in your power to save someone s life. American
Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton on May 21, 1881, but before the American Red Cross
came into America it was and international movement that was founded by a young Swiss man
named Henry Dunant. To know that 40,000 men are laying dead or alive and wounded from a
war that soldiers fought for us in the civil war, yet there were no medical attempts to save lives,
made Dunant organize local people to help wounded soldiers. The locals helped with wounded
soldiers by feeding, and comforting them when in need. In October 1868 the International Red
Cross Movement was created in Geneva, Switzerland and their duty was to provide non partisan
care to the wounded soldiers in time of war. (American Red Crosspg. 12, 2011) After the civil...

(Our History, 2014) Although it was founded in 1881 the United States ratified the Geneva
Convention in 1882. Barton became the first President of Red Cross, they established their first
local chapter in Dansville, NY and after that day they had their first disaster relief in Michigan by
a major forest fire. (Rosenberg, 2014) As the years pass by American Red Cross begins to grow
more, and more when it comes to helping victims during a disaster. They even started helping
victims when it came to sheltering them because their homes were damaged by hurricanes, floods
or man made disasters. Later on in the 1900 they were giving a congressional charter that
mandated the organization by translation or communicating between family s members and
members of the Military or people affected by a disaster.( Rosenberg, 2014) They played a big part
in World War II, which lead to the blood collection service in 1948 and CPR classes for the
The Great Gatsby No Name Woman Essay
Society has created an image that women should be delicate and dainty, that all women should aspire
to be mothers and homemakers. As a result, society has held women to different standards than men.
Women are held to different expectations than men in terms of beauty, loyalty, and traditional
obligations especially as subservient housewives. There is an urgent need to change the mindset of
society. The central issue facing young women in today s society is the standards that hold them to
higher expectations than men in the areas of beauty, romantic relationships, and household duties.
Society has created the stereotype that women are petite and dainty. No Name Womanemphasizes
this expectation by elaborating on the extremes that women go to look beautiful. The author
comments on the techniques used to pluck eyebrows saying It especially hurt at the temples, but my
mother said that we were lucky we didn t have to have our feet bound (Kingston 196). The
expectations that society has for women to look beautiful are unfair because men put little effort
into their appearance. In general, a woman with flawless appearance is favored over a woman that
shows her natural... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Great Gatsby illustrates a situation where society creates a different expectations for men
and women. When Tom and Gatsby are arguing over Daisy s affection, Tom says I suppose the
latest thing is to sit back and let Mr. Nobody from Nowhere make love to your wife (Fitzgerald
137). The irony of the situation is that Tom was having an open affair at the same time that Daisy
was seeing Gatsby. The double standard that applies only to men is not fair for women. How are
women expected to be loyal to their husbands, when it is acceptable for their husbands to be
unfaithful? The stereotypes that women should be loyal and pure, while expectations for men are
the complete opposite, create unjust expectations for
Rear Window Scene Analysis
The Rear Window clip that was provided to us begins with a medium shot of Jefferies looking out
of his window. Jefferies s eyes are being used as index vectors that set up the following subjective
shot of the newly weds inside of their kitchen. The shots of Jefferies eyes looking out of frame let us
know that when the shot changes we are looking from his perspective. This particular moment in the
clip represents the Hitchcockian voyeuristic theme that the film is based on. The scene then fades
out (to black) and then back in (into the next scene) by the use of dissolves. This editing technique
represents the passing of time. The scene opens with another courtyard pan but this time it is dusk
and the sun is setting. The sound for this scene... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, we see a mysterious shadow (creating with interior lighting) cast over Jefferies as he is
asleep in his chair. This is where Lisa is introduced into the film with a close up as she approaches
Jefferies and he then he grins as a way to show that he is happy to see her. His grin is friendly and
causes a shift in the audiences initial perception of the mysterious woman. The close up utilizes the
entire frame to capture Grace Kelly s natural beauty. Lisa then leans in for a slow motion, soft focus
kiss. The kiss is her way of greeting Jefferies, which in turn, immediately establishes their romantic
relationship. She then seamlessly makes her way around the apartment turning on three lights while
introducing herself to Jefferies in a playful manner. The comfortability of her movements suggests
that she is familiar with the arrangement of his apartment due to the fact that she has been there
enough times to become familiar with his place. Her movement also engages the idea of female
exhibitionism and the male gaze. Her poses and twirling movements shows that she is very
confident and likes to be looked at. Lisa s costume a beautiful dress complimented by her pearl
earrings and necklace set suits her character perfectly. She is a women with exquisite taste and
immaculate style. Their tone throughout the conversation is a playfully sarcastic way of flirting
with each other. This initial interaction sets up their relationship which is the true hidden plot of the

Popular Culture and Violent Behavior Essay
Popular Culture and Violent Behavior

Introduction

In 1871 E.B. Taylor defined culture as that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art,
morals, law, customs, and many other capabilities and habits acquired by...[members] of society. [1]

Taylor was talking about high culture, an aristocratic view of the past times such as ballet, theatre
and art. Popular culture, on the other hand, is a form of low culture and is based primarily on
marketing, mass production and revenue. Low culture is what is sold to the masses, ergo, low
culture equals mass culture. All these terms refer to popular culture, defined in the Oxford
Dictionary of Sociology as:

The question I have posed is a very contentious one, which has been debated by scholars and
graduates for some time, with many arguing that popular culture and mass media are ways of
brainwashing the masses into the ways of a dominant social order. Others believe that popular
culture is a type of folk culture which encompasses the idea of an alternative culture incorporating
minority groups, perhaps with subversive values sometimes challenging the dominant control
groups, as was scene with the advent of the Indie music scene in the mid nineteen nineties.

In this dissertation I aim to uncover whether aforementioned subversive values can be uncovered in
popular culture or whether popular culture is really a means by which the masses can direct
dominant controlling forces.

The main way I will do this is through my research into violent behaviour and the impact that
popular culture can have on individuals and groups in society mainly adolescents and young children
by looking at susceptibility, attraction, reactions and influences. Figures from the internet highlight
the capability television can have to influence an individual:

There are 7.5 violent acts per minute on television in the United States
Simon Sacrifice In Lord Of The Flies Essay
Sacrifice of the Innocent
At the end of chapter nine in The Lord of the Flies, William Golding utilizes figurative language
to establish Simon as a Jesus figure, who dies and becomes released from his suffering. After
Simon s realization that what the boys believe is the beast is instead a dead man with a blue
parachute, he returns to the other boys to tell them that the beast they imagine on the island is
fictitious. During a stormy night, the boys create a barbaric circle where they repetitively dictate a
chant in order to summon the beast so that they have the opportunity to kill it. Because they mistake
Simon as a beast as he attempts to tell them of his discovery of the dead man, Simon is forcefully
pulled into the center of the boys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Golding associates Simon with goodness and gives him an angelic demeanor, to the extent that even
the environment Simon spends his last moments on land has a phosphorescent aura and pearls
covered the rocks around him, much like how heaven is depicted in the Bible. Golding purposefully
amplifies the religious facets of Simon s death, because the sins, or stains, seep from [Simon s]
broken body... , as well as the line of his cheek [silvers] and the turn of his shoulders [becomes]
sculptured marble (154). Simon, like the statue of Jesus, is in a way forming into a silver, tone
like figure, in order to somehow preserve the memory of his innocent suffering. His body lifts and
opens as the sun shines upon him, and morphs into almost a duplicate of Jesus with his arms out
in a cross like position. Around his head many strange attendant creatures (154), or flies, busy
themselves and form a sort of halo, much like a halo on the heads of angels. The tide is much
calmer than it has been since the brutal killing of Simon, and the deep ocean imbibes him, as well
as somewhere over the darkened curve of the world the sun and moon [are] pulling, and the film of
water on the earth planet [is] held, bulging slightly ...

Divergent Essay Identity
Everyone is special. Each person is known to present a zeal of individuality, each specialising in a
unique set of traits while learning from them to create new ones. Moreover, Veronica Roth has
written a novel called Divergent. The novel takes place in a world composed of the ideology of
identity where each person is divided into factions , places that tell how they think and behave. All
things considered, the story identifies many components of self identity and symbolises it into a
new take on how the human perceives individuality. The story is followed by many characters,
Four, a young man empowered by an ugly past, and Tris, a teen with a gift she is forced to partake.

Likewise, humanity can find themselves like Tris, where she is baptised with dangerous and
unexpected titles in Divergent. The term Divergent is an impact of the life of the society in the
novel. Divergents are described to be people with a diverse set of emotions, possibly bring
unbalance to their orderly utopia. Tris never expected to be Divergent. However, she represents
how human beings usually cope when faced with a disorderly circumstance. She describes her trait
of diversity as if ‒someone breathed new air into my lungs. (Roth 442) Insignificance, acceptance
is a huge step to recognising self identity. Tris has learned to define herself according to one of her
most doubted moral. For instance, it was a huge breath for her to fully embrace her Divergent mind.
Similarly, men and women can learn from this as a life lesson as the unexpected can be the most
beneficial on how they perceive themselves. Nevertheless, Tris also relies on the brave and selfish
persona as a Dauntless initiate. Despite lived in a brave new world of adventure she realises the true
definition of her bravery and bravery among others. Beforehand, Tris used to live in a complete
opposite of dauntless where those dwelling lived upon pillars of selflessness. In a mature talk with
Four about her experience in Dauntless, she states ‒that selfishness and bravery aren t all that
different. (Roth 336) Even when traits have a reasonable contrast, those opposite contracts. For
instance, Tris finds similarity between a discrepancy. Thus, it symbolises that believing that each
emotion of one s life builds upon each other creates a personality that can overcome the greatest of
odds. In her time in Dauntless, Tris creates a friendship among many people, especially Christina.
Christina was known as Tris first actual friend, due to the boundaries in Abnegation, her last faction.
Over the course of the book, Tris and Christina
