The Future Of Zoos During The World Of Activists Attacks
The Future of Zoos In the Midst of Activists Attacks
In an increasingly threatening environmental crisis, zoos are participating in the conservation of
species. The biodiversity of the animal and plant worlds is being deeply affected, on the one hand by
the disruption of ecosystems caused mainly by climate change and deforestation, and on the other
hand, by the globalization of trade, travel, transport, and tourism. These two factors are increasingly
reducing animals habitats and endangering many species (Keulartz 336). Even in the face of the
environmental serial destruction, animal protectionist and wildlife conservationist activists criticize
zoo s efforts to protect the animals they house. The ways zoos progresses in the future to ... Show

The Doctor Chris Parsons, former Director of the Society for Conservation Biology, explains animal
welfare groups accept the use of animals for some human interests like clothing, food, recreational
need, or scientific experiments, as long as the animal is free of stress and pain . The influential
groups, the Humane Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals,
recognize on their website some zoos are beneficial to animals supporting conservation programs,
participating in the preservation and restoration of endangered species, and promoting education
about the importance of wildlife. However, this statement holds under certain conditions. First, the
Humane Society recommends zoos to be organized around a core mission that educates the public
about the needs of the animals and the threats they face . Also, zoos should provide animals with
humane care and adapted to their physical, social and psychological needs. Finally, ASPCA
indicates, zoos should participate in tightly controlled breeding programs and their display should
stress the themes of endangered species, wild habitat destruction and reduced biodiversity .
Unfortunately, many zoos are not falling under this description, but they can act on several factors in
the intent to work towards the animal welfare activists demands.

Human treatment of captive animals and their

Vision And The Act Of Looking
The Ocular Spectatorship

Vision and the act of looking is an important and recurring theme in many horror films. In early
gothic literature, such as in Guy de Maupassant s Le Horla, the author presents vision as
definitive and universal proof and stresses the importance of seeing as well as the act of showing
gore. As a society, we are routinely told seeing is believing in the wake of any paranormal or
supernatural phenomena, placing weight on the tangible. However, as science and technology have
progressed the faithfulness of visual representation is increasingly throw into question, which in
turn has led to societal anxiety. A few years earlier, video footage of an event rarely had its validity
questions, whereas now it is easy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only does it allow the viewer to fill in the gaps and imagine what the paranormal entity may
look like but the greatest factor that allows for the audiences anxiety is that they are constantly
waiting for a revealing, which never materializes. Some argue that there is a greater fear than the
fear of the unknown. As in Tony Perrello s argument, the viewer experiences more horror watching
the victim be attacked by the monster than being confronted by the monster itself. It has been
noted that the audience will mirror the reactions of the character on screen, screaming when they
scream or shielding their eyes when the victim on screen does, regardless of the role of the
character. As in Hitchcock s Strangers on a Train (1951), the director draws the audience into
empathizing with the evil character in a race against time to commit murder or James Whale s
portrayal of Frankenstein s monster in 1931. Laura Mulvey also speaks of the spectatorship of
siding with the killer in Peeping Tom (1960). The audience simultaneously empathizes with the
victims on the screen while occupying the killer s point of view.

The Uncanny (Sigmund Freud)

Sigmund Freud coined this term when trying to explain something strangely familiar yet unfamiliar.
It speaks to seeing or experiencing new but also takes us back to our own psychological past or
something within the material world. It is suddenly recognizing something that seems unfamiliar
and in fact, has an identity
Comparing Women In Fairy Tales And A Cinderella Story
While classic fairy tales give a solid baseline on morals, it also bases itself in the patriarchal
concepts by placing women as passive figures that need to be saved by a man and that a girl s
wildest dreams can be fulfilled with marriage. These tales instruct that marriage is the happily ever
after women are satisfied with; this may have been satisfactory during those time periods where
women typically were not allowed by society to carry much agency, but as women change, so too
should their stories.
With the rise of female power in the past century, there is a need for fairy tale adaptations that fit the
standards of modern women. An example of a tale that has recently been adapted a dozen times over
is the story of Cinderella. One adaptation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Trail Of Tears Historical Perspective
Trail of Tears, a Historical Perspective Trail of Tears is a historical event that highlighted the unstable
relationship between the United States government and American Indians. As stated in Marsico, the
trail of tears was an event that symbolized government s biasness when dealing with Native
Americans. From the viewpoint of a CherokeeIndian, the Cherokee tribes were fighting to preserve
their way of life and their land rights. The U.S. government at that time was anxious to expand its
territory to take advantage of the beautiful farmland occupied by the Cherokees. The government
could only accomplish its mission by encroaching on land belonging to the Cherokee tribes. Several
groups of people (from the Cherokee children, the United Statessoldiers to Christian missionaries)
aired their views on the trail of tears, and their thoughts continue to echo to date. The following
section is an appeal to the American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Cherokee nation is made up of five tribes that are involved in farming and have been
cultivating in the fertile areas of United States. The trail of tears event is one event that will
forever the change the lives of the Cherokee people. Although the white politicians and settlers
perceive this trail of tears as a necessary step, this event will completely change the lives of the
Cherokee people. The Cherokee people are peace loving hence they do not want to be drawn into
conflicts with other people. This has been evident from the first time a Spanish man crossed came to
the Cherokee territory and was replenished with foods and other supplies. The people of Cherokee
do not think that expansion of the United States territory is sufficient justification for the
government to take their land. The real motive is to take advantage of the forestry and mining
opportunities that exist on the Cherokee
The Nottingham Pulse Rig Towards Determining The Mechanism...
This Chapter discusses the progress made using the Nottingham Pulse Rig towards determining
the mechanism of the Fischer Tropsch reaction. A summary of the three main mechanisms
proposed in the literature was outlined in Chapter 1 but is still the subject of much debate.1 6
Generally the carbide mechanism is accepted for Fe catalysts,7 but the mechanism over Co
catalysts is less clear.1 Ge and Neurock,8 as well as Ojeda et al.,4 have suggested that the carbide
mechanism is the pathway for FT synthesis on Co catalysts. However, they disagree over the route
to CO dissociation; direct dissociation of the carbonyl bond has been proposed by Ge and Neurock,
whilst Ojeda et al. have concluded that carbonyl dissociation proceeds via an H assisted... Show

3.1.1 On the Mechanism and Active Site of the FT Process Over Co Catalysts Several studies
have investigated the effect of syngas on the structure of metallic Co catalysts.9 12 For instance,
Karaca et al. investigated the effect of syngas on a CoPt/Al2O3 catalyst using X Ray Diffraction
(XRD).9 After reducing the catalyst in H2 at 623 K, XRD peaks were observed for face centred
cubic (fcc) and hexagonal close packed (hcp) structures of metallic Co. After exposure to 20 bar
of syngas at 493 K, the fcc XRD peaks became narrower over 5 hrs, which was suggested to be due
to an increase in the particle size due to sintering of the Co metal phase. Over the subsequent 5
hrs this peak decreased in intensity and a new peak assigned to a carbide phase grew in.
Therefore, the authors concluded that deactivation of the catalyst was due initially to sintering
and then, over longer periods of time, to carbidisation. Wilson and de Groot have investigated the
surface reorganisation of a model Co catalyst upon exposure to 4 bar of a H2/CO mixture (2:1
ratio) at 523 K.10 11 The surface was examined ex situ in an Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) chamber
before and after exposure to syngas using a Scanning Tunnelling Microscope (STM). Before
exposure to CO the surface consisted of flat terraces, with a Co(0001) structure. The terrace
surfaces were separated by cliff edges ranging in size from single atom high steps
Business Writing
Improving Business Writing

Why is writing important in business? Writing is essential in any form of business. We use writing
in all types of communication such as: email, facsimile, letter writing, etc. Writing skills are
important to the business professional because it prepares the workplace for well written business
communications. The three topics I will cover can serve as an outline for improving writing skills in
businesses. The topics are principles of business writing, how to write an effective business letter,
and how to improve business writing within the company. These topics will aid in examining and
improving our company s employees writing skills.
First, there are four principles of writing: Empathy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following the Attention Line is the Body. The body contains detailed information about the
topic. The body includes the introductory paragraph, one or more body paragraphs, and a
concluding paragraph. Finally, there is the closing. The closing is usually ended with a
complementary closing and signature. A list of examples include: Sincerely, Cordially, Best
regards, and Yours very truly. Remember to capitalize the first word in the complimentary
closing and end it with a comma. After the closing, there is a copy line. When the copy line is
used, other people know who will be receiving a copy. The copy line usually includes a symbol: c:
for copy, pc: for photocopy, and bc: blind copy (used only to limit readers of other copies). The
names of the recipients should follow these symbols listed in organizational rank (Writing@CSU:
Writing Guide, 2004, p. 1). All of the components discussed above are effective ways to write an
effective business letter. An effective business letter speaks to a specific reader. Therefore, the right
type of business letter must reach the reader. The most common types of business letters are: 1)
Acknowledgement Letters, 2) Adjustment Letters, 3) Complaint Letters, 4) Inquiry Letters, 5) Order
Letters, and Response Letters. (Writing@CSU: Writing Guide, 2004 p. 1). These type letters helps
guide the reader to understanding what the writer intended. Nothing can be more
Diversity In Israel
Diversity is one of the main things that separates people from each other in society. There are many
ways diversity can be seen, either by, culture, nationality, status in society, or by gender. A visible
diversity many people commonly see is culture diversity. Culture is simply, people s way of life.
Cultureis what distinguishes people; some may say it creates an invisible line between people.
Many cultures are not accepted due to the fact that their beliefs, traditions, or practice are different
from others. Many people believe that with diversity comes adversities. Many people are unaware of
the importance of different cultures, even though it may be different to their custom. Growing up as
a first generation Nigerian American was hard,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Diversity is what unites people, without diversity, society would be like a dystopian society; same
people, same cycle, same routine, going on and on. With diversity we have a wide range of
options, different people; you re able to understand how other live. For a while, I didn t understand
what diversity meant, why people traveled. But when I was able to travel to Nigeria and understand
the culture, I fully understood. Through the Cultural Fair, Let the Nations Rejoice, and my stay in
Nigeria, I now fully understand the importance of diversity, and the need for my fellow peers to be

Building A Small Town With Its Own Life
Wangshu said: I want to build a small town with its own life, which could once again, wake up the
latent memory of the city.
Under the trend of globalization Chinese architects are always struggling in how to engage in the
trend of globalization and keep its unique culture and tradition. There are a large of numbers of
cities in China undergoing a delirious wave of development. Traditional dwellings are demolished
everyday replaced by high rise commercial high rise buildings which has no characteristic. The
image of cities became similar and lost their identity. There are normally two ways to deal with
this identity crisis. One way is to build landmark to display it character which always ignore the
tradition of the city. An example is the Galaxy Soho designed Zaha Hadid, which as a giant out
space invader intrude in a historical area of Beijing Hutong area without any considering the
surrounding texture and culture. The other way is considering the tradition but in fact it just
superficially make a direct reference to tradition forms. For example, on the street of Xi an the first
capital city in China, there are a lots of buildings topped with a pitched roof on high rise to structure
or Shanghai Museum which directly mimic a form of traditional cooking vessel. Those buildings
always as kitsch for their superficial mimic.
Ningbo History museum is an exception which designed by considering the relationship with the
past by using contemporary techniques and becoming a
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ipo

public. This process of equity offering is followed by the companies under the rules and
regulations or the guidelines prescribed by Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI).IPO is the
major source of capital for firm to raise their capital for their business Replacement, Expansion,

Various studies have been found on the concept of under pricing phenomena of IPOs.
Peng (2008) described the long run IPO performance, the Shanghai Stock exchange index was used
as a benchmark. These studies analyzed the aftermarket performance by using the cumulative
abnormal returns (CAR) and buy and hold abnormal return (BHAR). It showed that IPO over
performance in six months ofter listing day and recorded under performance after six months of
listing.
Mishra (2009) studied the performance of the Indian IPOs from April 2001 to March 2009 for the
long run. Results show that there exist positive returns on the listing day. It is found that the down
market is a major cause for the poor listing day performance of the negative group, whereas a
positive group does not gain anything from an up market preceding the IPO. With respect to the
average holding period return, for the negative group (starting day 1, not day 0) becomes significant
only after four years, while it is positive throughout for the positive group. The study concluded that
IPOs in the long yield a return equal to the market, when initial return is
The Link Between Social Networking And Digital Technology
Instagram is an online social networking app that allows people to share photos and videos to the
public. Also it connected with other social networking platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter etc.
(Instagram. Com 2015). People can use Instagram to take photos at anytime and editing it with
filters, and share their life moments in a visual way by taking photos and videos. Moreover, the
additional services on Instagram, such as Instagram message, Hashtag, Filters and Like button etc.
Those features reinforced the connection between social networking and digital technology.
According to Goldhaber (2006) Attention is a system that revolves primarily around paying,
receiving, and seeking what is most intrinsically limited and not replaceable by anything else. It
indicated that the overflowing information on the Internet created an attention economy, people are
desired to receive information as much as they can. However, the overabundance of information led
to the loss of attention. Especially when the developed technology allows people to access to
information in multiple ways, multi screen and multi task became a social phenomenon. Thus social
interaction with the social networks services creates new channels for distributing attention. Hayles
(2007) stated that the shift in cognitive styles can be seen in the contrast between deep attention and
hyper attention. Deep attention is focus on a single object for long time, however, hyper attention is
a switching focus on multiple
Comparison Of George Washington s Administration And Legacy
Washington s Administration and Legacy

George Washington was a key figure in American history, who shaped America into what it is today.
Washington struggled at times, but managed to pull through and do something great. By siding with
Alexander Hamilton insted of Thomas Jefferson at the time, was a good decision. By siding with
Hamilton, Washington furthered his partisanship and warned the nation. By doing this, Washington
knew it was his biggest failure as president.
Owning slaves lead people to criticize members of the generation. Attempting to free slaves,
Washington suggested a plan adopted for the abolition , but he couldn t go through with the plan
because of legislative authority for its conception and execution. Even though Washington didn t free
slaves in his lifetime, he wrote in his will to let them go. Historians everywhere believe that ... Show

Washington s restraint, solemnity, judiciousness, and nonpartisan stance illustrated a presidential
greatness and dignity that dominates the office even in present day. President George Washington
was a man who would have been a great king, but refused a crown and saved the republic and the
people.
In the time of the inauguration, Washington was described in glorified terms by the national presses.
By the end of his first term as president, newspapers everywhere non stop attacked the
administration s domestic and foreign policy. Even in Washington s second term they got very
personal and were worse than ever.
Washington s proclamation in April of 1793 claims that the United States would stay neutral in the
contest between Revolutionary France and Great Britain provoked a firestorm of protest. The
fiercest critics were united by a pro French orientation with regard to foreign policy rather than

Essay on Acid Test
1) Title of Book: The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test 2) Author: Tom Wolfe 3) The grounds on which
Thomas Wolfe created this documentation of the Merry Pranksters is that he attempts to re create
both the mental and physical atmosphere of their adventure and exploration across America. 4)
Specific evidence in supporting the aforementioned thesis can be found in the Author s Note section
of the book but also in the writing style used to develop this masterpiece. Writing in a basic journal
style, Wolfedocumented the extraordinary life style lived by the Pranksters through personal
experiences with them as well as transcribing their adventures that were captured on both film and

This novel, which originally started out to be a novel discussing Ken Kesey s (author of One
Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest) life as a fugitive wanted for drug possession living in Mexico, from
there developed into this journal of Kesey s band, the Merry Pranksters, and their tripped out
adventures. 8) One of the most outstanding features of The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test is the
simplicity of it to read. The journal style writing Wolfe used allows the reader to be absorbed into
the LSD fantasy world the Pranksters were living in. Also, Wolfe s meticulous attention to detail
adds to this effect and carries out his thesis of re creating the atmosphere in which these acidheads
existed. 9) Although it provides and interesting documentation through the use of journal form
writing, Wolfe probably failed English class due to the multitude of fragments and disregarded
sentences. (This may have also been a trippy effect, too.) Another disappointment is in the author s
note; Wolfe tells how much of the book was written through the use of viewing film. It takes away
from the first hand experience developed and slightly challenges the authenticity of the material.
But, it s only a disappointment if you actually read the author s note. 10) The Electric Kool Aid
Acid Test is a must read, but not in lieu of it being a well developed literary masterpiece.
