The Impact Of The African-American Civil Rights Movement
In the American Civil War, enslaved African Americans fought for their freedom and in 1863, the
Emancipation Proclamation ended slavery. Following the war, most African American still
suffered racial segregation and discrimination for a long time. The fight against discrimination
and segregation resulted in the Civil Rights Movement, which took place between 1954 and
1968. The African American Civil Rights movement, had changed the status of the black
community forever and shaped the American politics. The movement resulted in the addition of
several federal laws and Supreme Court cases. In the beginning of the 19th century, racial
segregation laws were enforced in all public facilities, from schools to parks, restrooms, public
transportation and restaurants, known as the Jim Crow laws. The laws called for separation of
the black and white community, for instance black students were only allowed to attend to black
schools. African Americans were constantly reminded of the laws with signs, such as Whites
Only . Certainly, blacks were against the Jim Crow laws and were ready to act. In 1890,
Louisiana passed a law, which required separate rail cars for blacks and whites. The law was
challenged by a man, called Home Plessy and resulted in the Supreme Court case called Plessy vs.
Ferguson. The court established that the segregation was fair if it was equal. In the following
decade, civil rights activists worked to change the system. In 1909, the National Association for the
Mrs. Andrews Mental Illness
Case study 1 Mrs Andrews is a 78 year old elderly woman who is recently widowed. She has one
daughter who is unable to visit her often due to work and her family life, she also has a teenage
grandson. On a recent visit to Mrs Andrews home I arrived to find her visibly shaken and upset.
When I confronted her about why she was upset she said that she had taken a tumble on her way
back from the kitchen and had spilt her cup of tea down herself, leaving blisters on her chest and
down her left arm which I tended to. The following week when I arrived, Mrs Andrews seemed
very withdrawn and still in her nightwear at 11am which seemed very unusual as she is normally a
very well kept lady. She explained that she had forgot about our appointment and had went back to
bed for a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could affect Mrs Andrew in the long term as she could become isolated, scared, and angry.
She could become severely depressed, her sleep could be effected more and she could even start
having suicidal thoughts and actions. My reasons to believe she is being financially exploited is
because in the time I have known Mrs Andrews she has always managed her money and bills
well, there has been no change in her income and simple bills that would usually be paid with no
worry or hesitation have become a problem for her. She is become worried about the situation she
is in which is making her stressed. The long term effects of this could be depressed and start feeling
guilty and fearful of the outcomes. Her basic care needs may be effected meaning she may not be
able to afford to feed herself, heat her home or even keep a roof over
History Of The Aztec Calendar
The Aztec Calendar was carved in 1479. The Calendar was dedicated to the sun god. It is 3 feet
thick, is about 12 feet across, and weighs almost 25 tones. The Aztec Calendar is a reflection of the
Aztecs Pharisaical understanding of time and space. The Aztecs, along with many of societies at this
time believed that time went in cycles. Now, the Calendar consists of more than just one wheel
rather it is a combination of two wheels. The first Calendar is known to the Aztecs as Xiuhpohualli.
The second being Tonalpohualli. Today I will be expanding on so of the known surrounding the Aztec
calendar.
The Aztec calendar played a big role in the complex system of religious beliefs and ceremonies that
consisted of ritualized warfare and human sacrifice
Comparing The Sea Of Monsters And The Titan s Curse

destroyed eons ago, but has recently arisen to take over the Western Civilization, and all the people

After reading this portion of my novel, I predict that Annabeth is still alive after being thrown off
of the cliff into the chasm. There are several supporting facts within the story that hint or
foreshadow that she did not die in the tragic incident. The first reason why I believe she is still
alive is because Percy had a nightmare about her when he got back to the camp. In the past novels,
whenever Percy had a nightmare, it was usually a vision of future events that were set to happen.
One can infer that because Percy dreamed about his fellow accomplice, Annabeth, that she must be
alive. This shows connections within the stories, and how the author used these visions as a
chance for the reader to foreshadow something that would occur later in the story. Additionally, in
the story, several things that Chiron said might have hinted at the fact that Annabeth could still be
alive. Chiron had practically raised her all the years she had been a year round camper, and knew
how capable she was of survival. He said, She s very bright. If... if
Tropical Rainforest Research Paper
There are several world changing events happening right now. However, many of these events are
either forgotten or rarely discussed. One of these forgotten events is the deforestation of the
rainforests. Rainforest deforestation primarily started in the 1970 s, but has since increased. Up until
recently, deforestation of rainforests was seldom talked about despite how much it has affected the
world. Rainforestdeforestation needs more attention because it has occurred for many decades
despite the environmental damage, the rainforest is important for the economy, food, and medicinal
purposes, it has many adverse effects such as climate change, and there are several projects to reduce
deforestation.

percent of third world countries food intake comes from rainforests which puts their diet at risk (

My Vision Is Turning Out At Michigan State University
My vision is turning out to be twofold because it concentrates in achieving an advanced degree
from Michigan State University. At this time, I am not sure what degree I will end up getting. At
one point it I was dead set on a law degree, but time and experience have taught me that I have not
found exactly what I am passionate about, but I do believe that I will find it with time. I do know
that I regret missing out on a traditional college experience and am now working toward pursuing
an advanced degree in the most traditional way possible. This means that I do not want to work
during the degree so that I can participate in graduate campus life and sports events. Until recently,
I never really wanted to go to college and maybe that is why I never really fell in love a particular
school and waited so long to get my undergrad. Now, I have fallen in love with Michigan State
over the years and truly want to experience everything that the school has to offer. It is important
to me to make the school my Alma matter. Additionally, the pursuit of knowledge and achieving a
post graduate degree has become incredibly important to me. It is my current dream to become a
master in a vocation that I am passionate about and that fulfills me. This is why I have made the
decision to wait on school at this time. Originally, I had wanted and hoped that my graduate degree
would lead me to my passion, but I now know and understand that for me the right choice is to try
and find my passion
Evil And Dark Desires Of The Subconscious
In the play Othello by William Shakespeare, the audience encounters characters that are
manifestations of evil and dark desires of the subconscious. This theme is portrayed through the
characters of Iago and Othello. From the start, Iago s malicious intents are clear. Because of his
feelings of incompetence, particularly to Othello, he succumbs to very humanemotions like jealousy.
However, his proceeding actions seem to lack awareness and thought for others. Iagomanipulates
Othello until he too becomes mad and overpowered by envy. Both characters are immersed into
their sinister roles because of accessible motives, but they experience fluxes of instability that
ultimately dehumanize their characters. At each of these transitions, the motif of bestial and
monstrous themes are present to mark the characters demise. The most effective way of
portraying a character s greatest fears is to make the audience see it themselves. By doing so, the
audience feels connected to the character and is subsequently more understanding of his motives.
Shakespeare uses bestial imagery early on in the play so that the audience may see what lays in
the subconscious of the characters. Iago is plotting against Cassio in Act 2, and he reveals to the
audience that his plan will cause Cassio, to be as full of quarrel and offense as my young mistress
dog. His desire for Cassio to be represented as rowdy animal indicates the power reversal that Iago
is scheming about. The disparity between
Slavery During The 19th Century
During the 1800 s to 1850 s, slavery was undergoing a huge development in which helped the nation
to grow into what it is today. The United States was split into two sections, the north and south, over
the dispute of slavery. The south sought to further slavery while the north was in favor of abolishing
slavery. Around 1858, Abraham Lincolnand Stephen Douglas, two politicians with completely
different views on slavery fought each other with politicians trying to win the presidency election of
1860. This was known as the Great Debates of 1858 .
Slavery during the late 1800 s was at its highest peak; almost 1 out of 4 citizens had slaves.
Slavery has become very popular in the southern states, working them to the very death as laborers,
maids, sex, etc. but slavery in the northern states there were no slaves due to the slave act of 1850.
The nation was at a brink of war when deciding how to handle states with slaves and states with no
slaves. The northern states wanted to abolish all sorts of slavery throughout the nations although
there were very few northern abolitionists. The southern states wanted to spread slavery throughout
the nation. But then came a compromised called the Missouri compromise which states that
anywhere up of latitude 36 30 are Free states and anything down from there can be slave states.
This gave the nation peace for a couple of years however the north still wanted the abolition of
slavery. During this time there were two politicians who sided
