Medieval Oppression Of Women
Over the medieval period oppression of women has been a problem and has not been solved up to
now. Various movements have taken place against these dilemmas but they still exist in our nation
and while they prevail they ve given an upswing to problems and instances of obnoxious behavior.

Women have been unjustly held back from achieving full equality for much of human history. In
the novel The Palace of Illusions , Princess Panchali said He was always trying to discourage me
from attending Dhri s lessons and he wasn t the only one. At first, no matter how much I begged,
King Drupad had balked at the thought of me studying with my brother. A girl being taught what a
boy was supposed to learn? Such a thing had never been heard of in the royal family of Panchal!
Dhai Ma denied Panchali of accessing the lessons that Dhri was learning as she believed that they
were making her argumentative and too manlike in her speech.

Practices followed during the medieval period showed us the predominant injustice of our times is
the widespread, tyrannical oppression of women. The feudal society of the time encouraged Sati
which meant self immolation of the widow. By burning herself on the pyre of her husband, she
proves her loyalty. Even the child widows were not spared from this gruesome ... Show more content

Many women face discrimination throughout all stages of their life, beginning at (or even before)
birth continuing as an infant, child, adolescent, and adult. While in the educated, urban middle class
women s rights continue to improve, there remains a strong bias against gender equality in those
societal parts of India, where patriarchal traditions prevail; her self image was torn into shreds by
the patriarchal family which denied her basic freedom. Indian womanhood was mercilessly locked in

My Porch Description
There was a tiny home invader on my porch. I came home from school to find a very large and
intimidating spider spinning a web on the side of my porch. Naturally, I quickly ran inside, i was
about to get a tissue to deposit it far, far away, from anywhere near me, but I stopped. Why was
there a large spideron my porch? It was just sitting along the side of it, completely exposed. It was
probably a good place to catch flies since it was near the trash can, but it was left completely
exposed. The side of my back porch was right by the door to go inside, Wouldn t it build a web
somewhere safer? Why here? Curious, I went out to look again, staying well apart in case it tried
to jump. The web stood out, a gossamer orb against the pale yellow of my porch. In the center the
spider a she, I suppose rested.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two elm trees growing in front of my house, giants. My house was built in 1871 and the
street, Elm Street, named before that. It s possible those two trees have been growing for
centuries. An elm tree can supposedly live to be 300. By that estimate, my trees are barely
halfway done. In the morning, the early October chill pushed me to dash from the house and get
to school without stopping to philosophize about spiders. When I got home, again there was the
similar flash of fear and apprehension upon seeing her. She hadn t attempted to jump at me, or
even crawl closer, but she was still vaguely threatening. Inside the house, in spiderless comfort, I
looked up what this brown banded little spider might be. Online I came across a picture that a was
perfect candid of the tiny home invader on my porch. When I followed the link, I had a name: the
Banded Garden Spider. Argiope trifasciata was an orb weaver, thankfully not poisonous, jumping, or
dangerous in the slightest. Their diet was commonly flies, aphids, wasps, bees, and grasshoppers. It
made sense why she was near the trash can where flies
Accurate Timekeeping At Sea
In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries clock making was a vital European technology, and
London was at its cutting edge. As a maritime nation, the British were concerned with one
problem in particular: they could make clocks that kept very good time as long as they stayed
perfectly still but not when they were shaken about, and particularly not on board a rolling ship.
If you wanted to sail, it was impossible to keep a precise record of time. And at sea, if you can t
tell the time, you don t how far east or west you are. It is relatively easy to calculate latitude your
distance north or south of the equator by measuring the height of the Sun above the horizon at noon;
but this won t let you calculate longitude your position east or west.
The problem of accurate timekeeping at sea was finally fixed in the middle of the eighteenth century
by John Harrison. He invented a marine chronometer which could go on accurately telling the time in
spite of the changes in temperature and humidity and the constant movement of a ship. This made it
possible for ships anywhere to establish their longitude. Before a ship set sail, its chronometer would
be set to the local time in harbor for the British this was usually Greenwich. You would then compare
the time at Greenwich with the time of noon on the ship, which you fixed by the Sun. The difference
between the two times gave you your longitude. For the twenty four hours in the day, every hour the
Sun moves across the sky that

2a. Steven failed to do several things as a Project Manager. He failed to deliver the product on
time and within budget, as well as managing expectations. His failures were a result of poor
planning, prompt or advance requesting of resources, and a failure to communicate with his team,
management and the end user. Steve s job as the PM is to monitor progress, ensure key stakeholders
keep their people focused on the task and prevent delays, or if delays occur communicate those issues
to management. Managing stake holders and keeping them focused on requirements and due dates
goes a long way towards preventing problems. Steve seems to have failed at this.

Essay on Effects of Maternal Employment on Infant...
The topic of this paper is the debate of whether or not maternal employment has any effect on infant
development. Research on this described topic has recently become popular due to the rise of
working mothers over the past several decades. Their increasing numbers in the workplace and
decreasing numbers as stay at home moms are creating a number of different issues to be studied.
The effects of maternalemployment are determined by a number of factors that include, the mothers
job satisfaction and drive, amount of work, and the mothers opinion of quality versus quantity time
with children. The main concept at hand here is the importance of an attachment in the first few
years as being vital to a child s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometime later referring to at least after the child s second year of life; this is due to research that
has also shown that children that began full time care for 30 hours a week in their second year
functioned just as poorly as these children whose care was initiated in their first year of life.
These studies have been examined by many researchers, each of them varying and being put
together a little better than the last after taking in to mind the criticism for each. After Belsky s
research was criticized another similar study was done but also took into account the background
information of the child, mother and the family. The National Longitudinal Survey of Youth was
used for these studies which also lead to there being a more representative sample of children.
Their research broke up the children, 4, 5 and 6 year olds, into three separate groups so they
could be compared on the emotional and social functioning being studied. There were two groups
differing by when their non parental care started, either the first or second year of life, and a third
for those children that had mothers that were employed less than 10 hours per week or not at all
employed. The results were similar but they did distinguish that a shy child would be more likely to
be affected by non parental care, having trouble coping

He described this relationship as a marriage of the body soul unity, where the body constituted
being the wife. The two substances should be in perfect harmony, however, they are two entirely
different things, one you can see, while the other can be seen as a spiritual aspect. The metaphysics
of Plato and Descartes were similar to that of Augustine s, however, Augustine did not give too
much depth when explaining the metaphysics of the soul and body. One s body is intricate which
is made up of four elements and the soul is a single unified state, the soul can be seen as conducting
reason and operating the body. The soul is ultimately superior to the body, which contributes to our
intelligence and reason. Augustine s work: In the City of God, his interpretation of Genesis
suggested that God created everything in the universe not in seven calendar days but rather
simultaneously. The structure of creation in Genesis signifies a logical framework and it should
rather be seen as a spiritual than a literal meaning. He comments that once new information surfaces
we should be open minded as the interpretation Genesis one is problematic in some aspects.

Societal Views on Interracialism Throughout American History
we are all complicit and we all carry a certain responsibility for America s original sin: racism. David

Half breed , Mulatto , Octoroon. All of these terms at one point served to describe individuals of
mixed race, particularly African and Caucasian. The controversy of interracialism has transcended
generations, as well as cultures. It is a subject that, historically, has held the potential to incite savage
racial discrimination, loathing, and violence. Indeed, even in today s significantly more enlightened
and politically correct views on race, interracial relationships and individuals still possess the
potential to make many uncomfortable.

Despite their controversial nature and subject matter, both achieved wide success and popularity. The
two plays were also manipulated in pre production to better suit their audiences and produce a more
box office friendly show.

In analysis of the texts of these plays, it becomes evident that both periods and cultures suffered from
similar types of problems with interracialism, though to a slightly greater and more violent extent in
the latter piece of Hughes s. However, merely analyzing the texts sketches an often incomplete
picture, as these plays were, to a large extent, created for the purpose of protesting and attempting to
manipulate the very attitudes they presented. Therefore, in order to truly consider how the nature
and extent of attitudes towards interracialism had evolved from the pre Civil War to the Harlem
Renaissance, one must look not only at the texts of the plays, but also to their critical commentaries,
manipulation in pre production, and audience responses. These sources outside of the texts greatly
contribute to the conclusion that although discrimination, maliciousness, and brutality were
problems that accompanied interracialism in both periods, they were slightly increased in intensity
and nature in the Harlem Renaissance of the 1930 s compared to the late 1850 s.

Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay, and red, and he placed them on separate

Social Issues of Poverty and Class Distinction during the Enlightenment Time Period Introduction
Candide takes the form of a classic journey story and Candide must endure a series of misfortunes
and trials before he can be reunited with his beloved and regain a qualified kind of redemption. It
is in the misfortunes that Candide and others suffer in the novel that Voltaire cuts through the
pretensions and hypocrisies of the Age of Reason (Cohen). The philosopher Pangloss, Candide s
tutor, insists that they live in the best of all possible worlds and maintains that view through
various sophistries, but reality tells a different story. Candide meets characters who view the world
quite differently, most notably Martin, who asserts that he has scarcely seen a town that did not
desire the ruin of the next town, nor a family that did not wish to exterminate some other family
(pg. 56). Early on, Candide wanders into a war ravaged village, where he sees old men riddled with
wounds . . . their wives lay dying, their throats cut, clutching their children . . . young girls in their
last agonies, disemboweled after having satisfied the natural urges of various heroes . . . (pg. 8). This
juxtaposition of brutality shows the difference between human and human behaviors. Nonetheless,
the novel depicts that man is capable of clever philosophizing, but superstition and ignorance still
rule the day. Voltaire Voltaire is the non de plume name of François Marie Arouet; a French
The Rio Grande´s Controversial Situation
The Rio Grande
Many people think that having a river near their city can always be good as they can make a good
usage of the river, just like San Antonio made their river very profitable. What people never think
is what problems or controversies the river can create. Almost always a river may have its
advantages and disadvantages and it is no different with the Rio Grande. The Rio Grande is not as
profitable because two countries own the river. Instead if it was own by only one country then the
river would be more useful. The Rio Grande creates many problems between the United States and
Mexican Government, it is also very useful for both governments and for human beings, the water
itself has many issues, and should the water not be used anymore.
Many problems arise do to the Rio Grande between governments especially, between El Paso and
Ciudad Juarez. Although there have been several treaties concerning this river, one government
is never happy and always wants a bigger part of the river. Both governments believe the river
only belongs to one country, that is because they are greedy and just do not want to share the
water when they believe they should be the owner of all the river. For example, in El Paso and
Juarez the water should be split in half, but instead El Paso takes nearly all of the water. Before,
Juarez would get most of the water even though El Paso did get a great quantity. A few years back
El Paso decided to construct a path that would lead all the water to

The Police Powers of Search, Arrest, and Interrogation Essay
The Powers of Police

Individuals have civil rights; people are entitled to be allowed to move freely and to have their
person and their property respected. However the police must have sufficient powers to investigate
crimes. Therefore Parliament has given the police special powers that can be used in certain
circumstances. These powers include the rights to stop and search suspects, to arrest and interview
people when necessary and to take fingerprints and samples (blood samples) for scientific analysis.

Without the police having these certain powers then it would be nearly impossible to investigate any
crimes. But it is also important for the police to remember that, at the same time, they ... Show more

To use this power under PACE the police officer must have reasonable grounds for suspecting that
the person is in possession of or the vehicle contains stolen goods or prohibited articles, such as
items of offensive weapons, and articles for use in connection with burglary or theft.

As these powers are very wide there are safeguards in that the police officer must give his name
and station and the reason for the search. If he or she fails to give reason for the search, then the
search is unlawful. This was shown in the case of Osman v DPP 1999, where the officers did not
give their names and station. The Queens Bench Divisional Court held that this made a search of Mr.
Osman unlawful and so he could not be guilty of assaulting the police in the execution of their duty.

If the search is in public, the police can only request that the suspect removes his or her outer coat,
jacket and gloves.

The code of practice A contains details and guidance on when these powers should be used. In
particular it stresses that police officers must not act just because of a person s characteristics.

Paragraph 1.7 of code A says:

Reasonable suspicion can never be supported on the basis of personal factors alone. For example, a
person s colour, age, hairstyle or manner
