Avid Strategies For Curricular Enhancement
According to the AVID Strategies for Curricular Enhancement Article, AVID is a system of best
practices in teaching and learning that has successfully helped more than 400,000 learners over the
past 30 years. The main goal of AVID is to close the achievement gap by preparing students for
college readiness and success in a global society. One of AVID strategies is the Active Learning
Methods, also known as ALMS. Active Learning Methodologies (ALMs) are strategies that AVID
teachers and trainers have used very effectively to engage students in active learning. The more that
it is being used the more quickly students continue to engage and respond. I believe an effective
teacher keeps their students engaged and responsive to the lesson that is being taught. This strategy
can be benefiting because it has an effective way to keep my students engaged in the lesson and
attentive and responsive being taught.
Another AVID strategy is the writing strategy known as the Cornell Note Taking System. It includes
recording ideas and content, questioning, summarizing, reflecting, reviewing, and assessing. It
incorporates not only how to write notes, but also how students should use the notes they have
recorded. Using Cornell Notes can be very beneficial to my students because it helps to increase the
understanding of the topic. When they are studying for either a test or quiz, the student has a

often underappreciated and hidden from the general public. There is evidence of this covering up of
the history of jazz for example in the civil rights movement. The roots of jazz started with the
bringing of African slaves to the Americas. While many do not know this origin of jazz even fewer

As we gain knowledge we gain understanding, giving us a different view of the world. In the story,
Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the author takes us through a day in the life of a husband who is
forced by his wife to meet and entertain her longtime friend Robert who happens to be blind. The
husband is not exactly excited by this visit. The author illustrates the characters development
beginning as apprehensive and jealous, transitioning to more of an uncomfortable feeling, and finally
ending with acceptance as the husband is put into a situation where he gains a new understanding of
the blindman. He ends the story with his eyes closed and a mind open to a new view of the world.
As the story begins, the author seems to portray the main character as apprehensive and jealous. As

I went to the post anesthesia care unit on February 2, 2016 for the Wilkes Community College
Nursing Class of 2017 for observation. Another student and I were assigned to this unit from 8am
2:30pm. Even though our time was cut short we still got to observe the flow and atmosphere in this
unit. It took awhile before we had our first patient, so we go to explore the area, determine what
equipment is in this area, and communicate with the nurses. We had them explain the documentation
process, and the main differences from a floor nurse than a PACU nurse. The post anesthesia care
unit is next to the operation room and pre operative patient waiting area. This area has an open floor
plan that allows easy communication with other health care members (CNA, Nurse, Doctor,
Anesthesiology, Radiography) and visually see patient while getting their medication or a drink.
They were 8 different stations in the PACU unit. Each station has equipment for any emergency that
could happen in this area. The equipment included a monitor, suction equipment, a sharps container,
oxygen, IV pole, call light, ambu bag, emebag, air valve and a trash can. This equipment was
present at each station. They were a nutritional area, medication area, and a nurse s station to toward
the back of the unit and on the other side of the unit they were a crash cart, warming blanket
machine and a large clock on the wall. This was all placed in the unit to improve transportation and

My first thoughts of Buffalo State, I had many different ideas on what I should expect. First I was
very excited to step foot in a place that I never been. I love experiencing new places. Considering I

The deaths in this war are terrifyingly close to those in the Holocaust (Heaton 1). The massive
death toll would include that of the Rwanda Holocaust and the Congo Holocaust. These deaths
include murder, suicides, starvation, poverty, and disease. The political aspect of this situation is

Differences Between Craft And Design
Intro
There have been many debates on whether craft and design are different or similar. Risatti
(2008:116) states that although craft and design are closely related, there is a distinction between
them. Crafts have been developed within cultures, but have been modified by design and both
involve a different way of thinking. So are they one and the same or different? In this essay I m
going to go through 6 different examples; tradition, innovation, method, materials, uniqueness and
lifestyle, where design has taken the simple craft and changed it to something new, proving my point
that craft and design are in fact more different than the same.
Tradition
There is a noticeable difference in how craft and design play a role in tradition. Craft is a way the
people of a culture expressed there believes, whereas design has challenged it. Figure 1 is a
