King Henry VIII was a remarkable ruler apart from any other. He reigned over England from 1509
1547 (Tudor History). The English Reformation was solely his doing as he separated England
from the Roman Catholic Church and changed the country forever (Biography). He has always
been well known for his six marriages in which he treated his wives as his possessions. Many
know about what Henry VIII did through his lifetime but do not know who he was. It is
important to take a closer look at King Henry VIII s personal life to understand and get to know
who he really was as a person, rather than just as a powerful King. On September 20, 1486, King
Henry VII and Queen Elizabeth the Good were blessed with their firstborn son, Arthur. Giving birth

Throughout all of Prince Henry s life, he would have a great deal of responsibility in his hands
(Van Duyn Southworth). Such obligations came a lot earlier in his life than one may expect. His
first two offices were assigned to him at the age of only two years old (Walder 13). This is quite
unbelievable to someone of the current day and age. Two years old is much too young to be
given such high power considering he may barely have the ability to even talk! He could not
come close to understanding the responsibility he had been given. Though that was the way royal
families handled business. Prince Arthur and Prince Henry were both given a list of titles at
remarkably young ages. The income that would be brought into the family was the sole reason
for this. It was all about the money. It was important that the family received as much money as
possible, rather than it to have been given to an unrelated nobleman. Yet the work that the
positions required was done by underlings and deputy officials since the boys were obviously
much too young to handle it (Biography). In April of 1493, the young Prince Henry was officially
assigned to the offices of state, Constable of Dover Castle and Warden of the Cinque Ports (Van
Duyn Southworth 22). He was carried by his designated nurse, Anne Luke, as he was publicly
Journeys Essay with Robert Gray Poetry and Related Material
Question:
Journeys allow travelers to reflect on their own experiences because of new knowledge gained and
greater insight into themselves and the world around them.
How do composers explore this aspect of journeys?

Essay Answer:
It is presumed that journeys are uplifting experiences, with the implication that new knowledge and
greater insight allow travelers to gain wisdom and solidify a coherent view of the world. Yet,
experiences through journeys can result in new knowledge clashing with preconceived beliefs,
potentially disabling the traveler s epistemology. Furthermore, a traveler cannot ignore this
conflicting knowledge and return to his prior self at the conclusion of his journey. These themes are
explored in Robert Gray s poems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traveller embarks on a journey, backwards in time that demonstrates that the past is a more civil
place than the future. Similarly to the traveller in Flames and Dangling Wire, the journeyer in
Gardens of the Night sees that the future can be a destructive place, going against the idea that the
world will continue to advance to a better society. The extended sentences mirror the surreal qualities
of Coral City, as compared to the regimes, and the rules and the regulations of government and state
which his present civilisation is constricted by. These features of present time are listed with
conjunctions, separating the prominent issues, rather than creating fluidity with the use of commas.
On his travels, the traveller has to put on my disguise to cover the truths that have polluted the
present time. From this, it can be drawn that the traveler is ashamed of his origins, and has to wear a
disguise free of lies and destruction. Because of exposure to a civilisation that seems above human
nature, the more developed time of disputes and mass destruction is an unsatisfactory and
incongruous depiction of how the world should operate. The traveller accepts this, although he has
to cope with the disillusionment of returning to the guardianship of institutions that plague the future
world. Gardens of the Night has points of high modality, emphasising the scope of damage present in
the future. For instance, the traveller acknowledges that

Why You Should Start Shopping For A New Vehicle
With all the new 2008 vehicles rolling onto the car dealership lots, it s hard not to start thinking
about trading in your wheels for a newer model. Before taking the plunge, consider these tips for
getting the best deal. Time is on Your Side There are certain times of the year that are better than
others for snagging a great deal on a new vehicle. It just depends on what your goals are. If your goal
is to trade up to a 2008 model, the best time to do this is in the spring of 2008. Most dealerships will
still have plenty of brand new, never been driven vehiclesout on the lot. If you re simply looking to
trade up, then you should start shopping for a 2007 model now. Any models from last year that
haven t sold will be deeply discounted to make room for next year s model. Shopping during
different months can also yield surprisingly deep discounts. For example, November is historically
the slowest month for vehicles sales, new or used. Since the majority of Americans are focused on
planning for the holidays, sales slow down significantly. Sales people are more likely to come to
their bottom dollar negotiating figure more quickly during November, thereby making negotiations
easier on you. Generally, shopping in the early winter months right after the holidays is also a
good time to snag deals. If that is not enough, the day of the month you choose to shop can also pay
off. The closer to the end of the month you can shop, the better your deal will be. This is because the
Billie Holiday Strange Fruit Meaning
It s nearly impossible to overstate the significance of Strange Fruit , as its influence is still felt
today. Despite popular belief, the song was not written or composed by Billie Holiday, but by
Lewis Allan. It first started as a poem and then was later put to music. Abel Meeropol, pen name
Lewis Allan, was a high school English teacher at DeWitt Clinton who was involved in progressive
activism, communism, and the teachers union. He wrote many poems and songs, yet Strange Fruit
was his proudest (and most famous) achievement and for good reason. Published in 1937, the poem
was Meeropol s response to witnessing a photograph of the lynching of Thomas Sharp and Abram
Smith.
There is something to be said about the empathy between oppressed people. A Jewish American
white man wrote this protest song and was able to hand it off to an African American woman, Billie
Holiday. The film indicates that this Jewish composer and black artist relationship was vital to Jazz
at the time, yet none beforehand produced such weight as Strange Fruit did. This was a shocking
song, born from grotesque events, and it eventually sparked activism, becoming the anthem for the
anti lynching movement.
At first, Billie Holiday was actually reluctant to sing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its words describe the aftermath of such a hanging, with imagery dark and vivid. The text
depersonalizes lynching victims, the same way a lynch mob would, by depicting them as strange
fruit, hanging from a poplar tree. Meeropol continues by describing blood on the leaves and roots,
which could be seen as a metaphor for the United States itself. America was built upon the slavery of
Africans, their blood, sweat, and even lives. This unjust sacrifice was the very foundation of
economic growth for the South, as in the bloody roots that supply and support the tree. Alone the
poem provides a haunting

A Re look at the America Funeral Process
Funerals are some of the most difficult activities for most individuals to experience, especially when
they involve the death of a loved one. Over the years, there has grown a common and yet distinct
American custom when it comes to how funerals are perceived and conducted (James 348).
However, most Americans still hold unto the traditional funerals as opposed to modern ones.
Unfortunately, the American funeral customs put a lot of more emphasis on some activities that turn
out to be very costly. Worst of all, the economic burden that this traditions put on the bereaved
families is even more detrimental.
Most of the old folks are the greatest defenders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identified by the majority as funeral directors in America, these specialists have transformed the
twentieth century experience of death and body disposal. On the flip side though, this does not
mean that they have made things any easier.
Since the funeral expense plans have become a part of the American funeral custom, here is a
look at how this plans may not be a good investment after all. First of all, such plans usually accord
the client negligible interest of their money, and in some cases the interest goes into their pockets
therefore meaning that they do not over individual the control of the money they have invested in
them (Nash). Secondly, the funeral plans will always cost more than they claim that it will cost for
them to offer their services fully during the death of an individual. In that regard, I would like to
point out that this is my utmost to both funeral homes and American funerals since the two are
intertwined. According to Nash , most commercial on American televisions currently advertise the
services of funeral plans, saying that it costs just around $6,000 for and individual to get a full
cover. However, this is a huge lie. This could have been true a few decades ago, not today.
When factoring in additional expenses that funeral plans do not often disclose, the total figure of an
entire funeral process ends up doubling. Nash

The Issue Of Discrimination In America
So here are the facts: According to national poll commissioned by the Episcopal Church 98% of
Americans feel that there is some type of discrimination still alive in America today. 7/10 Americans
feel that African Americans are directly discriminated against. But it can happen to anyone
whichever race. Journal Science states that Many people unconsciously harbor racist attitudes. But is
that an excuse for hostility?

With an African American voted into office many thought things would change but there are still
combined issues that act out America s problem with race. Although, we have come a long way
from where we used to be. The phrase If you work hard, you can be anything you want to be, no

Textual Codes Essay
Possibly one of the most prevalent codes in daily living all across the world is how people dress.
The cloth people choose to cover their bodies with on a day to day basis says a lot about the
individual and about that society. It can serve as a clue to what that person believes morally, what
part of the world they come from, and even a message they are trying to send. According to Daniel
Chandler in his book Semiotics: The Basics, Semioticians seek to identify codes and the tacit rules
and constraints which underlie the production and interpretation of meaning within each code
(Chandler 2007: 148). Chandler goes on to discuss three different types of codes within his book
consisting of social codes, textual codes, and interpretive codes. The variety of styles worn across
various cultures reveals something about the social codes. The textual codes can be seen in how
clothingis advertised, and what this means across the various cultures whether it serves to

American Christians hold true to their modesty, they have adopted the popular slogan, modest is

the styles they want, but still remain modest in how they dress. Those who are found to be wearing
clothes of a more revealing nature are said to not be aligned with beliefs regarding modesty and the
Christian faith and could potentially be labeled as living in sin, as stipulated in Biblical
Stephen King Gothic Elements
Stephen King s The Boogeyman was my favorite piece of gothic literature that we read. I was
trying to figure the story out all the way until the end and had to re read some of it to fully
understand. It was suspenseful, scary, but also had a good story to listen to. The Boogeyman was
full of gloomy settings, monsters, characters in distress, and intense emotions. These 4 things are
just a couple elements that make up gothic literature.

The first element of gothic literature that I noticed in The Boogeyman was the gloomy setting.
The way the man described his house was chilling. He made it sound cold, haunted, and all
around gave the house a bad vibe. He says, I heard a noise in there one night. And then she
screamed. I opened the door real quick the hall light was on and. . . she was sitting up in the crib
crying and. . . something moved. Back in the shadows, by the closet. Something slithered. Here he
is talking about his own daughter s room and how something was in there and he did nothing. I
couldn t believe that, his own child was in distress and he was too full of pride to admit to his wife
that he wanted to protect or baby their child. Her room was described as creepy enough without the
monster. The gloomy setting helps show that this is gothic literature.
