In adulthood, though, they will be expected to achieve independence and make choices about school,
work, and personal relationships that will affect every aspect of their future. For some young people,
the usual challenges of adolescence are compounded by difficult family situations, overcrowded
classrooms, disintegrating neighborhoods, or exposure to alcohol or other drugs. Without support
and guidance, these young people may fall victim to behaviors that place them, and others, at risk. In
our society, those behaviors include dropping out of school, running away from home, joining gangs,
and using alcohol or drugs or becoming involved in other law breaking behaviors. Some youth may
become despondent, leading to academic problems, social isolation, or self destructive behavior.

The mission for adolescent and adult community service is to develop compassion and the spirit of
service and charity in elementary, middle and high school. With that said, community service
workers provide young people and adults with hands on volunteer opportunities to help others in
their local and global communities. For instance by being a part of volunteer community service
work it can solve a few problems such as: health care, child care, literacy training, education
(including tutorial services), welfare, social services, transportation, housing and neighborhood
improvement, public safety, crime
Animal Cruelty And Its Effects On The World
Animal Cruelty The weather outside is harsh. The wind is blowing and the temperature is below
freezing. Imagine being locked in a cage and left unprotected from this weather with small
portions of food and water that has turned to ice. Now imagine being yanked from this cage and
bashed on the floor, stunned, and now skinned alive. Does this sound cruel? Does this sound like
something that no creature should ever have to endure? This is something that is experienced by
many different types of animals across the world every single day on fur farms. Animals are left out
in the cold to produce their thickest fur coat and then skinned for that fur. This process happens to
approximately sixty minks in order to make one coat (RandomHistory). It is almost impossible to
fathom the amount that this must have happened just to create all the mink coats in the world, much
less the amount killed if you include all of the other species used to make coats. The saddest part of
it all is that this is only the beginning of the multitude of horrendous things that happens to the most
innocent of God s creatures. God put animals on the earth to make man s life better and to survive
not for man to disrespect and torture them. Animal crueltyis overlooked and ignored and it s time
for people, all people, to stand up and defend these animals and be their voice. I warn anyone who
chooses to read further that most if not all of this information is very difficult to take and is not for
Nicaraguan Revolution
Research Question: To what extent was liberation theology a catalyst for the Nicaraguan Revolution?
Historical Context of the Nicaraguan Revolution Somoza García gained support from the US
through the assassination of Sandino and repression of a peasant movement and was elected
President of Nicaragua in 1936. Under the Somozas, social stability was achieved through political
schemes and brutal repression, which allowed for rapid economic growth in which the elite would
benefit the most. Under the last Somoza dictator, Anastasio Somoza Debayle, corruption and human
rights violations made the Nicaraguan government especially unpopular and led to the end of the
Somoza dictatorship as the guerrilla Sandinistas eventually took over the Nicaraguan government.

It became a concern to some Bishops in Nicaragua that the Sandinistas would actually gain power
after they overthrew the Somoza government, however if they rejected the Sandinistas movement
they would be alienating themselves from the majority of the Catholic people who supported the
Sandinistas and prevent the possibility of a relationship between the Sandinistas. So the support of
the Sandinistas by Catholic bishops was a strategic one in order for the Church to have some
influence over the Nicaraguan government. The political activism of the Church in Nicaragua was
through collaboration with the Sandinistas. Students from the Revolutionary Christian Movement
participated in the Sandinistas movement as soldiers and the clerical base leaders joined the
movement as well as they collaborated with Sandinistas to end the struggles of the Nicaraguan
Difference Between Inflation And Inflation
INFLATION
1.Inflation happens in an economy when there is a rise of level of goods and services, due to an
increase in the volume of money in an economy over a period of time. It is also referred to as an
(erosion) in the value of an economy s currency. When inflation is high, it affects the entire
economy. Consumers are not able to afford the goods and services because of the high prices.
Additionally, when the price level of goods and services increase, the value of currency reduces.
Meaning, that each unit of currency buys fewer goods and services.

2.The different types of inflation are:

Demand pull inflation This occurs when there is a high result of consumer demand. The prices
increase for the same goods and services, when consumers are trying ... Show more content on

Deflation A general decline in prices, often caused by reduction in the supply of money or credit.
Also, it can be because of a decrease in investment, government and personal spending. This is the
opposite of Inflation. (A fall in the general price level).
Disinflation The process of reversing inflation without creating unemployment or reducing the output
in the economy. It is a deliberate attempt to counter a highly inflationary situation. (A decrease in the
rate of inflation).
Nevertheless, the differences between reflation and stagflation are because reflation is a rise in the
rate of inflation while the prices were not rising and stagflation is more serious, when the economy
becomes stagnant, but still experiences inflation. In addition, the differences between deflation and
disinflation are that deflation can be both manmade and natural. Disinflation is always planned and
is based on the government policy. Deflation always emerges in the form of depression and
disinflation price level comes to normal

Financial Analysis of Hershey and Tootsie Roll

Introduction
Tootsie Roll and Hershey are two similar companies with a similar product offering, but they operate
on entirely different scales. In an effort to determine the better investment of the two companies we
will utilize multiple financial analysis ratios to gauge the health of the respective companies in terms
of liquidity (the ability to pay short term liabilities and respond to opportunities), solvency (the long
term viability of the company) and profitability (the efficiency at which the can turn it s resources
into profits). However, the snapshot picture of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Harrison Jr., Horngen, Tomas, 2013) Even though the cost of goods sold consumes $0.52 of each
sale, The Hershey Company managed to generate a profit of $0.48 for each dollar of sales.
Profit Margin Ratio
The profit margin ratio demonstrates the ability of a company to increase the percentage of net
income earned for every dollar of sales. For example: this ratio shows the percentage of each
sales dollar earned as net income . (Harrison Jr., Horngen, Tomas, 2013) The Hershey Company
was able to increase the profit margin ratio from 10 percent in 2012 to 11 percent in 2013. The
increase in profit margin from the previous year 2012 shows that the performance of the company is
increasing which means that revenue is increasing or expenses are decreasing. Furthermore, The
Hershey Company is managing their performance efficiently and this is directly reflected in profit
margin ratio.
Return on Assets
The return on assets (ROA) ratio helps measure how profitable a company is in relation to its total
assets. In the case of Tootsie Roll, the company had an ROA of .06 in 2012 and an ROA of .07 in
2013. This is an increase of close to 16.7 percent year over year. Hershey, on the other hand had an
ROA of .14 in 2012 and .16 in 2013. Hershey s rising ROA is comparable at 14.3 percent. With
change 16.7 percent and 14.3 percent being so similar, we favor Hershey s ROA at the higher rate
of .16 in 2013 as opposed to Tootsie

Who Is Kitcher Inescapable Eugenics
I support the guidelines outlined by Kitcher for the use of genetic information because of their
responsible and ethical nature. I believe that future generations will benefit as a direct consequence
of these guidelines. I shall begin by defining eugenics as the study of human genetics to improve
inherited characteristics of the human race by the means of controlled selective breeding.
Chapter 8 of Kitcher s novel, Inescapable Eugenics, identifies past abuses of eugenics resulting from
inaccurate, misleading information; abuses that include dominant groups using eugenics to
discriminate against other undesirable groups.
In 1933, the Nazi s exercised eugenics as a direct way to rid individuals who were portrayed as unfit
or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the conditions above, Kitcher states one main precondition. This precondition is the ability to
form a sense of self in order to set one s own personal values and to also take course of ones future
path of life . In Kitcher s point of view, the use of genetic information concerning embryos or
fetuses is permissible if and only if Fragile X, Lesch Nyhan, neurofibromatosis, and other similar
severe syndromes prevent even a modest quality of life . Under these circumstances, Kitcher
justifies the need for the use of genetic information to restore the ability to attain a decent quality
of life and to have the ability to satisfy desires that individual s value. Kitcher rejects relying on
objective science, a science that sometimes falsely labels diseases according to society views and
biases. For example, masturbation and homosexuality were falsely labeled as disorders. The
outcomes of objective science are unreliable and bring about social prejudices instead of promoting
health and life .
A moral justification for genetic treatment is only as accurate as the justification of disease. In the
realms of objective science and the use of genetic testing, Kitcher argues that the basis for
terminating a pregnancy due to a severe syndrome can also lead to the basis for termination due to
an undesired sex or possibly even homosexuality. Ultimately, Kitcher supports only a minimalist
approach to the use of
Deep Ecology And Environmental Pragmatism
The concept of sustainability is becoming an ever more relevant and popular ideology today. Many
college campuses take great pride in their sustainability, they take many steps to ensure that their
garbage output, water usage and other various items are sustainable or working towards that goal. In
areas outside of the college camps setting however, sustainabilityis often hard to reach due to a wide
array of concepts, including deep ecologyand environmental pragmatism. I believe the two key
points (of the 8) behind deep ecology is that humans have no right to reduce the richness and
diversity of our natural resources, and that human interference with the non human world is
excessive (Naess 3). Simply put, deep ecology is a push back against our over use of resources, with
a goal to hardly use them at all. This concept occasionally goes together with the view held by many
on environmental pragmatism, but the two often collide with each other. Environmental pragmatism
involves the basic concept that humans are part of the environment and that this must be taken into
account with its management(Light 3). This means that humans historical and cultural uses of the
land must be taken into account with its management, even if it is not the best option for the land
management. These two perspectives can come together to create a more sustainable environment,
but they more often have very extreme differences of how to manage an area, and this is when
wicked problems can
Minister s Black Veil Symbolism
Nathaniel Hawthorne and Symbolism Symbolism within the Minister s black veil and the Scarlet
Letter is rampant throughout. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses several physical objects as symbols for
many things. The most obvious symbols being the Scarlet Letter and the Minister s black veil
itself. These two physical objects not only symbolize their explicit meanings but extend beyond
that meaning. Further Hawthorne goes on to use physical symbols for Chillingworth and Pearl
to say something more than what they mean explicitly. More symbols include the rose bush
outside the jail, the meteor, the house in which Hester and Pearl live in solitude, and the mark
that appears on dimmesdale s chest that we are never clarified on the actual physical appearance
of. The main physical symbol within the Minister s Black Veil is the veil itself. The most blatant
thing the veil could symbolize is hidden sin. The minister may be wearing it due to something he
committed in his past, that he is guilty of and he wears the veil as a symbol of that. The veil also
may could be symbolic for the minister s pride. He wears the veil and continues to wear it because
he has a superior attitude towards the people in his congregation. The... Show more content on

The letter explicitly symbolizes Hester s sin of adultery. It is her living punishment as she lives
within the puritan community to remind her and everyone else that she has committed this sin.
However, Hester does not let the identity of an adulterer dictate her life. She works hard to
provide for herself and pearl and eventually the symbol of the scarlet letter turns into a symbol of
Hester being able and somewhat of an angel. She becomes the symbol in a way, even years and
years afterwards when she would be able to take it off she continues to wear the veil. The town
sees her as a somewhat angelic being. (How does the black veil compare to the letter A in the
Scarlet Letter?
Dressing Up For The Carnival Analysis
A carnival is an event that entails some form of public celebration which includes a simplified
version of a circus, costumes, masks and is aught time accompanied by some form of street or
community party. With this in mind, Pulitzer Prize Winning novel, Dressing up for the Carnival
stories, written by Carol Shields, enlists the reader for getting ready to go to the carnival. However,
Shields is not getting us ready for an actual carnival, The stories that were analysed from the book
are, Dressing Up For The Carnival , A Scarf , Weather , Flatties and Keys . Each story ultimately
offered its own individual flare and highlighted how effective Shields was in captivating the interest
of the reader through the entire collection of stories. Similar to the book title is the title of the first
story; dressing up for the carnival in which Shields presents the reader with an introduction to nine
individuals of whom we never see in the story again, and for that matter, we... Show more content on

How do each story intertwin in Dressing up for the carnival. Initially Shields does not do such a
great job of establishing these ties. For example in the story Keys , the author uses the death of a
Biff Monkhouse, the man who introduced Europe to the famous bebop dance, to show the reader
that keys are often different and can have a collective meaning to many individuals: His interest
in Keys began at the age of sixty, at a time when he was recovering from a serious heart attack .
(Shields 99) But, the Keys have no ties whatsoever to this or any other story read in the collection.
So, with this in mind one must read each story individually and savor each moment of humour or
serenity from the story and when the book is completed one can then ponder if the book is worthy
of being classed as a good
