Public Defenders Essay
In the United States, the adversarial system of justice relies on ensuring a criminal defendant
receives a fair trial. The sixth amendment gives defendants the right to legal representation in
criminal trials even if they cannot afford one themselves. Each city and county in the United States
ensures a defendant the right to counsel. There are different ways cities and counties across the
United States provide representation for indigent defendants. One such approach to indigent defense
is public defenderprograms and is a popular system used by many states today. Public defender
programs have been around since the 1900 s but gained popularity throughout the years due to the
many indigent defense cases.

Subsequently, in 1972 Argersinger v. Hamlin held that defendants were required legal counsel when
faced with incarceration from a misdemeanor or felony conviction (Smith, 2004). Following these
Supreme Court decisions, most state and local governments had to develop new systems of indigent
defense or modify the old ones to keep up with the number of clients (Wice, 2005). Since Gideon v.
Wainwright, other cases have challenged the Supreme Court application of the right to counsel.
Currently, all defendants are given the right to counsel at all stages of the criminal justice process,
including during trial, appeals, and even during police interrogation.
There are three different methods that states use to provide indigent defense; public defenders,
assigned counsel, and contract attorneys. Depending on the size of a city or county usually
determines what type of indigent defense is employed. Public defender programs can be public or
private nonprofit organizations (Neubauer Fradella, 2011). Public defender programs are found
mostly in populous jurisdictions and are most effective in defending large numbers of indigent
clients (Wice, 2005). Sometimes counties or states will use more than one type of defense for
indigents. Today, public defender programs represent close to seventy percent of all indigent defense
nationwide (Neubauer Fradella,
Trash
Trash is a book written by Andy Mulligan, the book is about three kids that work at a dumpsite.
Education is not helpful when you work at a dumpsite . I want to back up this topic because it is
true that education is not helpful when you work at a dumpsite because at a very young age they
send children to pick up rubbish so educationwouldn t be helpful when you are picking up rubbish
why? Because you will not use education while picking up rubbish.
Children that work at a dumpsite are trying to make money for their family so that being said
education is not very important when you are working most of the day sifting through the trash.
Children that are working at a dumpsite are helping their family with money.
The main character in the book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a lot of people around the world that haven t been educated because of similar reason like
this dumpsite boy.
One of Raphael s friends Jun Jun (Rat) is another dumpsite boy and he hasn t had a new pair of
clothes for years and he is not educated why? Because he is the same person as Raphael both
dumpsite boys both have no money to get educated. Children at a young age is working under age
to make money to help their families.
Imagine if you are in that position and you are working everyday trying to make good money, if you
think about it education won t be helpful especially when you live in a dangerous country.
Education is not important for people who work at dumpsites because they will not use education
while picking up trash. Money can be used for better things like your family needs not education
because family matters most.
That are some reasons why education is not helpful when you work at a dumpsite. I made myself
pretty clear why it isn t important when you work at a dumpsite and have no money and you can do
better stuff with money then education, family is most important before anything take care of your
family then you can do whatever you want with your money than get
Ancient Rome, the Roman Colosseum
Ancient Rome, The Roman Colosseum

Historians have always used great structures from the ancient world to find out information about the
kind of lives they used to live. The Colosseum in Ancient Rome, Italy was one of the most famous
structures. The Colosseum in Rome gives historians a number of insights to the type of civilization
that existed during the time of the ancient empire, through the gory battles and violent games that
took place. This can be proven by the purpose of the Colosseum and the context surrounding its
construction, the political and economic benefit of the Colosseum to the empire, the types of games
which were held in the arena and the values which the structure suggests were important to the
civilization at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The construction of the Colosseum was a propaganda exercise with the aim of pleasing the citizens
which meant that the emperor kept himself in power. The emperors bought their popularity through
free entertainment and corn for the spectators which lead to the emperor buying the peoples votes
(Hopkins, 2011). The magnificent amphitheatre entertained the roman public becoming an
international emblem and propaganda tactic used by emperors to improve their political careers.
The economic benefit that the Colosseum had for Rome was enormous. The Colosseum provided
many jobs for the citizens of Rome; including work as ticket sellers, architects, merchants, slaves,
cleaners, curtain pullers, soldiers (crowd control), musicians, gladiators, animal trainers, sand
layers, engineers etc. (DeLasCasas, 2007). It also assisted the economy as it provided
opportunities for money to move around the different class levels as merchants sold many assets at
the games. Another way that money came into the Ancient Roman economy was through
gambling, people would win and lose fortunes at the games similar to the way people bet on today
s sporting events. According to DeLasCasas, 2007, when the Colosseum was closed in 399 AD the
Roman economy suffered as it meant no jobs for a number of citizens, which lead to them not being
able to provide for their families and this lead to poverty. The Roman Colosseum had a positive
impact on the Ancient Roman economy giving
Numbers In Hinduism
Chapter 11: The Importance of Numbers in Hinduism
The scriptures state that numbers ranging from 0 to 10 have a symbolic importance for Hindus.
They are associated with some of the key principles and gods of the religion. According to
historical records, the Hindus developed the number system so they can systematically arrange their
knowledge regarding the gods and the theories of creation. This chapter will provide you with some
examples as to how numbers were used in Hindu ceremonies.
Thousands of years ago, Indian citizens were so religious. They worshipped and prayed to different
gods on a daily basis. They believed that the ultimate goal of a person s existence is to attain
freedom from the repetitive cycle of births and deaths. Also, they thought that withdrawal from the
society and abandonment of responsibilities were never needed to establish a relationship with the
divine beings. Happiness and wealth were important for Hindus but they didn t consider these as
goals. They focused their time and effort on achieving freedom from the illusions created by Maya.
In order to attain this liberation, they lived their lives and performed their tasks without any hint of
passion. They consider the gods as their saviors, guardians, guides, and witnesses. Because they
needed to present their knowledge about the divine in an understandable manner, they invented the
concept of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Vancouver Island Eco Initiatives
TThe proposal I have selected is the Vancouver Island Eco Initiatives Request Proposals VIEI 11
02 , this proposal talks about creating a support system for the students at Camosun College. It is
economically friendly in the way that the re use, recycle method would be put into place at both
campuses. The proposalitself says that it will create financial support for students at both campuses,
but has very poor English and vocabulary, and the main point is not made clear. Of what I could
understand the individual who wrote this paper wants to set up a studentfunded flea market of sorts,
where students could buy tables from Costco that cost $20 and sell their textbooks, non
perishable food items, etc at reasonable prices to other students. I recommend for this proposal
that whoever wrote it, go back and go through spell check, as words like money were spelled
incorrectly all the way through, and that a lot of their vocabulary is very basic and hard to follow
or understand. The Plan section seems more like a budget than anything else, it doesn t tell you how
the student society will be brought into the mix as it mentioned in the Introduction, or how they will
garner the attention of students to volunteer and spend the $20.00 on the table, or how the 8 000.00
a year will be distributed among everyone involved. I recommend that the writer re visit The Plan
section and actually add in a more detailed plan, including how they plan on getting students
involved,
The Generation Of Baby Boomers
Every generation is separated into groups. Within a certain set of time, a significant amount of
information can develop or change. A few years after the Great Depression the generation of Baby
Boomers began ranging from 1946 to 1964. There were numerous inventions and improvements such
as: cars, cell phones, and computers. Through the years 1996 to 2010 Generation Zstepped into the
spotlight. Even though, start to finish there is a 64 year difference between the oldest and
youngest of these two generations, there is something that holds them together, while at the same
time makes them each unique. Between the generations there are the differences including
lifestyles, forms of technology, how their health was taken care of, and which issues were more
prominent yet having some similarities. One key difference between the two generations is their
lifestyle. From cars to entertainment, there is a considerable gap. According to my aunt who is
baby boomer, most of their entertainment came from listening to records or by playing outside
with their next door neighbors; it was hard to do something with a friend who lived farther than
you could walk (Lindsay). Cars could have helped solve this problem, however this generation
had to make do with what they had. In most cases, families had only one car, but that did not stop
people s love for cars. The automobile became a full blown romance. Drive in businesses made it
possible for customers to bank, watch a movie, or eat a meal

PRINCIPLES OF PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT IN ADULT SOCIAL CARE 1. Understand
how to reflect on practice in adult social care 1.1 Reflective practice is the ability to constantly
monitor one s own performance in a given role and make adjustments where necessary. For me as
carer, reflective practice is particularly important because no two cases will ever be the same and
it is vitally important to remain reactive and reflective at all times. Reflective practice has been
demonstrated to have significant benefits when it comes to the delivery of person centred care, and
can help me to ensure that I am able to accurately assess the needs of each resident as an individual
rather than as a case number to be merely care for. With... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Similarities Between The Garden Of Eden And The Tabernacle
Similarities Between the Garden of Eden and the Tabernacle Throughout the Old Testament, the
tabernacle was a centerfold of worshiping God for the Israelite people. This was where believers
could congregate to seek peace, sing praises, and make animal sacrifices to God. The tabernacle was
also a resting place for God to come down from Heaven and dwell with His children. Similarly, the
Garden of Edenwas once a perfect creation for God to have an earthly dwelling place to be with
Adam and Eve. That, until the age old story of sin and deception came into place. The Garden of
Eden was a perfect model of how God designed a place of worship to be, that is why He provided
Moses with specific instructions of how the tabernacleshould be built as a replica of the garden. The
tabernacle stands as a symbolic model of the original creation the Garden of Eden, through its
reproduction of several of the garden s well known features, such as the cherubim guarding the
entrance, the Tree of Life, the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, and the direction of the Garden
facing east. The tabernacle s recreation of the cherubim guarding the entrance to the Garden of Eden
is in its placement of these angelic beings sitting above and protecting the sacred Ark of the Covenant
. The ark was an intricately decorated wooden box holding a copy of the Ten Commandments,
symbolizing the living presence of God among the people. The ark, like Eden, was a sacred place
where only God could dwell and sin may never be present. After Adam and Eve disobeyed God,
cherubim were placed at the entrance of the Garden to shield His perfect creation from sin. In
doing so, He made sure that the two would not find the entrance again, ( Guarding the Gate of
Eden. ). Likewise, to protect the holiness of the ark, God ordered the Israelites to create cherubim
to protect the ark from sin intruding upon its presence. Lisa Schachter states in her article, The
Garden of Eden as God s First Sanctuary, that in both contexts [the cherubim] are the guardians of
both the literal and figurative Tree of Life discussed in the story of creation. God did not want His
perfect creation to become corrupted again, so He placed cherubim on both sides of the ark as a
Early America Essay
The colonies of Early America had many similarities as well as differences in the way that they
treated the people that lived in the community and acted towards their surroundings. An example of
the colonies that first settled in the Americas would be the Pacific, New England, the French, and
Carolinas. Indeed, these colonies contributed to the way or lives are today in many aspects. The
people living in the Pacific as well as in the French colonies chose to intermarry and socialize with
the majority of Native Americans for specific reasons. Eventually these colonies came to be known
as the ¨frontiers of inclusion¨ because they accepted the Indians as part of their society. In addition,
one of the reasons that the Pacific wanted the Indians... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since New England arrived with many settlers when they sat foot in America, they wanted to be
independent and owners of the land. Therefore, New England was prepared to get into constant
fights with the Indians to obtain what they wanted which earned them the phrase ¨frontier of
exclusion¨. On the contrary, the Carolinas thought differently from the rest of the colonies. They
knew that if they wanted to maintain the Indians under control and in their side, they should
reach an agreement. Consequently, the Carolinas gave the Indians guns since they wanted to be
better armed. In addition, New England saw this as a threat, so they also started to trade guns in
exchange for goods. They realized that it would not benefit the New England colony if they were
to cut off trade with the Native Americans. Moreover, the Carolinas intension to remain the peace
between them and the Indians was not to make an effort on making people adapt to a certain
religion and start focusing more on labor. What the Carolinas were doing was not to create the
same chaos that the Pacific had made on trying to force the Indians to convert to Catholicism.
However, in New England, church was very central for them, for they were vowed to create a ¨City
Upon a Hill.¨ Indeed, a ¨law demanded that everyone support the official Church of
Welfare Reform And The Welfare System
All throughout history welfare services have been available to the general public. While these
benefits have changed over time, the basic intentions of the welfare system has stayed the same.
The welfare system provides benefits and monetary assistance to those who qualify. Different acts
over the past two hundred years have been amended in order to try to help the poor, and while not
all have been practical and successful, many programs have indeed done an outstanding job in
aiding those in need. But, just like with all good things, there is a negative side. Even with all the
reforms to try perfect the welfaresystem there are still some holes in it. Not only is the welfare
system easy to manipulate, according to usgovernmentspending.com, eleven percent of the
federal budget is spent on welfare, leaving tax payers livid. (usgovspending.com) It s obvious
there is a need for a welfare system in the United States, but with the abuse the welfare system has
endured a major change needs to be seen in order to ensure the welfare system be used as
efficiently as possible. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, welfare is defined as a
government program for poor or unemployed people that helps pay for their food, housing, medical
costs, etc. (Dictionary) Some of these programs include; Food Stamps, Medicaid, Housing and
Urban Development (HUD), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Head Start, Medicare, Temporary
Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and Work Study.
