Existentialism Essay example
In his 1946 essay Existentialism, Jean Paul Sartre undertakes the task of defending existentialism
against what he defines as charges (341) brought against it. Sartre begins to outline the charges
brought against existentialism and further, existentialists. Following the medieval quaestio form,
Sartre begins with the statement of the objection, a short discussion, and then his reply to each. The
first of the charges is that of quietism. First, it has been charged with inviting people to remain in a
kind of desperate quietism because, since no solutions are possible, we should have to consider
action in this world as quite impossible (341). Historically, quietism was a Christian philosophy that
advocated withdrawal from worldly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before I begin to discuss the replies Sartre provides for each objection raised, it is important to
establish what Sartre believes existentialism to be. That is, it is important to understand exactly what
Sartre is defending. Sartre begins his definition by defining the two groups of existentialists:
Christian existentialists and atheistic existentialists. Sartre aligns himself with the atheistic
existentialists for the remainder of the essay. What the existentialist philosophers have in
common, and where Sartre begins his definition, is the idea that existence precedes essence. The
reader is provided the example of a paper cutter. A designer has a plan for a paper cutter in his/her
mind and sets about creating it with the preconceived notion of its function. This preconceived
notion is the essence of the object and thus for the object (a paper cutter) essence precedes
existence. That is to say the paper cutters being is predetermined. It would follow that for essence
to precede the existence in a person, there must be an individual to conceive of the beings essence
and thus bring about its existence. However, Sartre declares that there is no God and
Malcolm X Dbq
For over three hundred years, racial segregation has existed between Caucasian people and African
Americans. During that whole time period, African Americans were on the lower end of the
spectrum when it came to being treated fairly as a race. They had been through tough times as a
race, from slavery, to Jim Crow laws, to unfair lynching and completely segregated facilities,
especially in the Southern Confederate states. Segregation had begun in the early seventeenth
century, when cheap labor was needed in order for the American colonies to flourish and the first
Africans arrived as indentured servants. The African Americans indentured servants were always
treated differently from the white indentured servants. The House of Burgesses recognized... Show

The country has gone through many changes within that period. The question is: has the country
changed for the better or worse? The answer is no. Hate crimes against minorities are still as
prevalent today as they were back in the 1960s. They have just taken on different. Malcolm X and
Martin Luther King Jr. clashed heads when it came to what they advocated, although they
ultimately were headed toward the same goal. They just had different ways of fighting for that
goal. Ultimately, as much as the debate exists for which method of rallying is better, violence or
nonviolence, no one will ever know the answers. Through general observations of the world through
the media, African Americans have a long way to go before they achieve the same goal the Malcolm
X and Martin Luther King Jr. fought

Physically Dismembered s Poem Titled
The death of a man who was brutally dismembered, lies in the hands of the narrator. The
defendant confessed to the murder, claiming to hear an unbearable noise, similar to that of a
watch wrapped in cotton. Upon hearing the sound, the narrator was unable to keep up his facade
and burst out, yelling that he was guilty. While the narrator did kill the man, he was insane and
should not go to prison; instead, he should go to a mental facility where he can be treated for his
condition. The murderer had killed a man in cold blood because of a diseased eye, tried to prove
his own sanity, and heard sounds that were made up in his own mind. Therefore, the judge should
plead him insane and place the narrator in a facility. Primarily, the accused murdered a man due to
his evil eye. There are more logical methods of ridding oneself from an object/person that agitates
them than resorting to murder. The fact that the narrator thought that the best way of freeing himself
of the eye was to eliminate the man... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author seems to explain in detail how the narrator murdered the man to emphasize that hearing
a heartbeat from him was impossible. From the reactions of the old man the first time and the police
the second, it is clear that he was the only one to hear either of these sounds. Thus, hearing a sound
that wasn t actually produced in reality, verifies that the killer was indeed having some form of
delusions. His symptoms match up closest to schizophrenia, which is a chronic and severe mental
disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. People with schizophrenia may seem
like they have lost touch with reality. (National Institute of Mental Health, Schizophrenia) It helps
that he himself states that the disease has not dulled, not destroyed, but sharpened my senses. It is
very likely these things are just delusions he has,
Why Pentecostals Want To Taproot
√ fact check....Pentecostals like Jakes, Oral Roberts, Branham, Hinn and Bentley are spirit world

Why Do Pentecostals Want To Tap The Taproot?

10.3 Pentecostalism: 5 Pagan Inspired Abnormalities
The Pentecostal s spirit spirit possession is directly linked and genetically kin to paganism by virtue
of their Americanized version of African traditional religion and Voodoo religion. This Americanized
form of paganism has shown its own true colors through several dead giveaways. These include the
trait of unintelligible speech as practiced by Voodooist, Shakers, witch doctors, neo pagans, shamans
and Russian Molokans. With these extra biblical tongues comes other extra biblical and non biblical
traits plus other abnormalities. These include:

Effects Of Exercise On Brain Health
There is ample evidence to demonstrate that through the normal ageing process alterations to the
brain in structure and function are directly related to cognitive changes (Glisky, 2007). With an
increasing ageing population strategies for prevention of disease and age related cognitive decline
are necessary to improve quality of life and reduce the associated healthcare costs (Australian
Government Productivity Commission [AGPC], 2013). Physical exercise is known to be crucial in
maintaining physiological health; it can also be used as a means of neuroprotection and assist in
modifiable risk factors for improved brainhealth and subsequent cognitive function. This review will
critically analyse current research into the effects of exercise... Show more content on

Smith et al. (2013) took a less studied approach to improving cognitive decline by testing the
effects of aerobic exercise on adults (60 88 years old) already suffering from cognitive impairment.
After 12 weeks of moderate exercise there was an improvement of memory and neural efficiency
across all subjects.
As discussed at the Alzheimer s Association International Conference [AAIC] (2012), elderly people
who had reduced cadence, velocity and stride length of just 1.7cm were seen to have greater declines
in cognition, memory and executive function. These gait related restrictions were associated with an
overall smaller brain volume (Bridenbaugh Kressig, 2013). Having reduced mobility results in an
accelerated cognitive decline as being in the same environment regularly provides little stimulus to
keep the mind active. Gait restriction can be improved through physical therapy and although it may
not increase lost brain volume it can assist in reducing the effects of further decline (Patla, 1991).
Due to the inconsistency between studies there is no definitive exercise dosage or type that can aid
in protection against dementia. However, from the evidence provided it suggests that higher levels
of exercise can be used as a neuroprotective mechanism to prevent the onset of
New Grad A Program Assignment
New Grad A has begun orientation on a geriatrics unit. She has developed a good relationship
with her preceptor over the past 7 weeks and feels confident in her progression on orientation thus
far. Unfortunately due to the preceptor s abrupt illness, New Grad A will have to complete the
last week with another preceptor. From their first shift together, New Grad A feels that the new
preceptor has not been welcoming, supportive, or engaged in teaching and providing learning
experiences and skills need for the completion of orientation. While caring for a patient, New
Grad A failed to recognize a patient s confusion as a result of a catheter associated urinary tract
infection. The preceptor scolds New Grad A on the inability to notice subtle changes in patient
behavior and symptoms and expresses her reservations about hiring new grad and the need for
longer orientation for slower grasping new hires . New Grad A immediately feels incompetent,
and ill prepared by her initial preceptor. New Grad A confides in her clinical instructor that she
thinks she should resign and that maybe her previous preceptor did not prepare her appropriately.
You know her preceptor is an excellent clinician and experienced teacher. What would be your
advice to New Grad A and the preceptor on settling this crucial conversation? During the crucial
conversation between then preceptor and new grad, the stakes are high, in light of the preceptor s
seniority and the new grad s inability or courage to
