A Sense of Belonging Comes from Having Connections with...
A sense of belonging is an essential part of every individual s life. A sense of belonging can be
created from having connections with people and places within a personal, cultural, historical and
social context. The choice of where to belong and who to belong with changes people s sense of
belonging as time passes. The Poetryof Peter Skrzynecki s Immigrant Chronicle and Carson
McCullerss novel , The member of the wedding demonstrates how a sense of belonging comes from
having connections with people and places.

The member of the wedding discuss the idea that we do not always choose the groups we belong to

Feliks Skrzynecki explores the relationship between the poet and his father, and their contrasting
experiences of belonging in a new land. The poem is written from the poet s perspective of his
father. In the first two stanzas he sees him from the perspective of a loving son and builds up a
positive and respectful image of his father. The emotive word gentle suggests his fond attachment
and admiration for his father who has raised him. This admiration was not apparent in his youth as
Skrzynecki recognises that there were cultural barriers between them that hampered the father son
relationship. This poem explores Feliks s sense not fully belonging to Australia and his son s
growing detachment from their polish heritage. In many ways father and son grow to become
strangers to each other, with individual attitudes towards belonging in an Australian context. As they
share no common cultural background, the connection and sense of belonging to each other is not
complete. Peter does not belong within the Polish culture, nor does he completely identify with
Australian culture when he was a young boy and adolescent. He experiences guilt and regret as he
cannot share his father s memories and enthusiasm for Poland. From a second generation migrant
perspective this poem provides evidence of an ambiguous stance towards belonging that comes

What College Aged Student s Thought Of The Perceived...
I wanted to conduct my own study to discover what college aged student s thought of the
perceived differences in men and women speech. I asked 10 students ages 19 21 the question: Do
you believe men and women s language is different? Next, based on their answer I asked: Do you
believe those differences are socialized or innate? I then asked: Do you think you have ever been
the victim of a stereotype due to your (gender) language? I spoke to six girls and four boys. I spoke
to them at two different settings. I spoke to all the girls at my apartment; they were either my
roommates or friends visiting us. I spoke to all the boys at my boyfriend s fraternity house. I find
this important to mention so that it is made aware the setting and nature of the conversation was
always casual and never confrontational, and all that were interviewed I knew well. Out of all the
girls 67% felt that men and women s language was different and 33% felt that they did not know.
Digressing from my formal questions the girls engaged in a discussion of how it was different.
Significant statements I found from that conversation were some of the following sentences, I don t
know I just think girls talk more than boys, and we actually like to gossip and stuff like that also,
Well yeah its different but it s not that different we just actually pay attention and so we have more
to say . My next formal questionDo you believe those differences are socialized or innate were only

Nu Jazz And Jazz Dance
Classifying report
By Bianca Wyatt

Dance was introduced by king Louis, he came up with the idea of dance at a wedding where one
of the very first dances the broccoli dance was invented, and by the the 1700s the most popular
dance was ballet. Dance originated 2500 years from today, from people that believed in a magic
ritual which broke the spell which apparently on a bewitched king. Many contemporary dances can
go back to historical, traditional, ceremonial, and even ethnic dances.

Jazz:
Jazz was created in the early 20th century in New Orleans, but the main roots of jazz originate
from the traditions of Africa and Europe. Some people even say that African and European music
is a union of jazz. Jazz is known to have rhythm and feel. The costumes used in jazz for jazz dance
performers prefer to wear a leotard and tights, the dancers prefer tight clothes because they tend to
help with techniques. Most of the time if people aren t comfortable with wearing tight clothes
they just wear jazz pants which are very similar to sweatpants except that they are a little bit
tighter, and jazz pants come in a variety of different sizes so they are very similar to sweatpants.
The music styles in jazz can be the style of electronic, soul and mostly free improvisation. All of the
above are from the genre Nu Jazz .

The Tangent Mind In Donnie Darko
The basic dilemma of all human existence is that each element of the psychic apparatus makes
demands upon us that are incompatible with the other two. Inner conflict is inevitable . Richard
Kelly s careful utilization of the tangent universe in Donnie Darko, as well and the characters within
it, are reflective of Freuds aspects of the human psyche, and the unconsciousness mind. Freud s
structure of the mind is composed of the id, ego, and superego and each are represented by one the
main characters in the film. At the conscious level of the human psyche emotional, physical, and
spiritual awareness is fully realized. While at the unconscious level, these aspects still influence and
drive the individual, yet the individual is unaware of their presence. In the beginning of the film,
Donnie is the black sheep of his family, a lonely outcast with no defined purpose in life. As the film
progresses Donnie s level of consciousnesscultivates parallel to development of the movie s plot, as
he fulfills his destiny as the living receiver.
According to Freud s ideology the id engages in foolish, illogical, and unrealistic thought processes,
and is disconnected from reality due to its unconscious location (Freud 17 19). Kitty Farmer the
conservative gym coach at Middlesex would represent the id. Kitty is infatuated with Jim
Cunningham a motivational author in the film, whose teachings she bases most of her classes on.

Correlation Between Poverty And Crime
Violence is one of the biggest problems in the United States, having consequences that affect not
only one but multiple individuals at a time. Crimes, such as robberies from a bank, not only affect
the bank company being stolen from but the people that kept their savings in these banks. Many ask
questions to find out whether or not a person, residing in America, and their economic status
interconnect with the number of crimesbeing committed. When trying to find out whether this is
really true, researchers have to take on the perspectives of both teens and adults. Along with these
perspectives, researchers have to collect data possible from all sources possible to find the
correlations between poverty and crime/violence. Subsequently, the factors... Show more content on

A bit less than 70 percent of Americans do not have a college degree making it harder to further
their career or even get a job. Americans that don t have a college education compete with the
immigrants coming from different countries that too did not get a college education. This factor
increases the amount of violence from people that have little to no college education making them
feel more desperate knowing they have less of a chance to receive a job and furthermore making
them revert to violence. Weinberg, an economics professor at Weinberg University, conducted a
study with Eric Gould and found that, From 1979 to 1997, federal statistics show the inflation
adjusted wages of men without a college education fell by 20 percent. Despite declines after 1993,
the property and violent crime rates (adjusted for changes in the country s demographics) increased
by 21 percent and 35 percent respectively during that period. (Weinberg) Men that did not receive a
college education had their wages cut and corresponding with this the amount of violence and crime
in the country s demographics increasing. Weinberg also states, The fact that murder and rape didn t
have much of a connection with wages and unemployment provides good evidence that many
criminals are motivated by poor economic conditions to turn to crime (Weinberg), this provides
evidence that even with other factors coinciding with extensive criminal offenses, the factor of
poverty really is the main cause of crime and violence such as robbery, burglary, and fraud, crimes
that coincide with prospects of
The Effect Of Einstein s Attack On Pearl Harbor
In Einstein s letter to Roosevelt, he talks about how the United States lacks Uranium, which is a
key ingredient to making a bomb. He knew that Germany had a strong amount of Uranium and
didn t want them to succeed before the United States. This pushed the United States even more to
make a bomb which would, later on, be dropped on Japan in Okinawa. Two years after Einstein s
letter Japan invaded Pearl Harbor, killing over 2,000 American soldiers. The attack on Pearl Harbor
is what made the United Statesdrive even harder to attack Japan.

In 1942 the Bataan Death March and Battle of Coral Sea were also events that help lead to the
bombing of Japan. The march was about 100 miles and many of the soldiers died before making it
to the end. The march showed Japan true colors on how cruel they can be and puts more hatred on
them. After the battle the United States started turning into offensive after being defensive for the
beginning of the war. This helps us grow strong as a military unit, but didn t help in the Battle of
Tarawa in 1943 because they were also offensive causing ...one of the bloodiest battles of the whole
war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of No Firemen At Ground Zero By Michael Burke
In the article No Firemen at Ground Zero This 9/11? , Michael Burke uses multiple techniques to
persuade his audience of the injustice committed against the first responders of 9/11 by excluding
them from the 10 year anniversary at Ground Zero. Burke works towards the goal of having first
responders be included in the memorial at Ground Zero, after Mayor Bloomberg claims there isn t
enough room. Throughout the piece, Burke targets his argument at the influential readers of the Wall
Street Journal in New York to get them to use their influence to put pressure on Bloomberg to get
the first responders to be properly honored. Some of the most important strategy that Burke uses to
persuade his audience is the structure of his piece, and his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Burke eventually does argue that first responders should be included in the memorial, he
makes sure to point out that denying them the privilege of coming to the memorial would deny
the first responders their due and proper honor .This would not be as impactful if Burke would
not have started his piece by emphasizing the horrors that the first responders voluntarily walked
into. By organizing the piece the way Burke did, it allowed him to shape the reader s viewpoint
of first responders before he even began arguing his point that first responders must be honored at
Ground Zero on the ten year anniversary of 9/11. Another powerful technique that Burke uses to
persuade his audience is he uses quotes. Burke uses quotes from people who were at the scene of
9/11 themselves. Burke quotes a woman who was descending from the 89th floor who said When I
saw the firemen I knew we would be all right. By using quotes like this, Burke shows the emotional
reinsurance that the first responders gave to the people involved in the attack. By showing the
emotional response to the first responders, it makes the reader clearly see the importance of the
presence of first responders on the scene and the impact they had on the victims. The first responders
altered the emotional atmosphere of the scene. This shows the significant of the first responders at
the scene and how discluding them from the memorial is atrocious . Quotes worked hand

Gaston Leroux s novel starts out with a scene in the opera house. Christine Daae was singing on
the stage, and afterwards the managers were going to have a party, because it was their last night
at the opera house. Christine happens to be the protagonist of the book. Christine fainted in the
middle of her show and was dragged off stage like she saw a ghost. Raoul, has a crush on Christine

When a person makes a claim about something, they are stating that what they are saying is true.

An opinion is how a person feels about a particular person, event, or thing.

An inference is a conclusion based on evidence or reasoning.

Claims, opinions, and inferences are all part of analyzing poetry or other texts.

Look at the chart below to help you understand each of the three elements:

Claims need to be backed up by concrete evidence and factual information. For example, if you
state that blue cars are safer in accidents than red cars, you need to be able to prove that. You would
need to provide examples, statistics, studies, or real life scenarios that can prove your statement as
true.

Opinions, on the other hand, do not need to be backed up by fact, because they are your feelings
about something. You might say that you prefer math to reading. Is there a right or wrong answer
to that scenario? Of course not! To create a valid and believable opinion, you would need to have
specific reasons
The Effects Of Effective Parenting On Children
There is no single or correct way to rear children. (Cox Demmitt, 2014) Raising children in today s
society has become more difficult than the past 50 years, but there are techniques and classes to
help parents become effective in raising their children in a positive way. I have raised two
daughters, ages 29 and 19, and a ten year old son , that I find myself using techniques that are
different, based on gender and age. Having a positive relationship with children is important and
there are suggested principles to help become an effective parent.
Principles
Effective parenting can assist in promoting intellectual curiosity, motivation, and desire to achieve.
It helps protect children from developing anxiety, depression, eating disorders, anti social
behavior, and alcohol and drug abuse. (Davis, 2004) An important trait to help with effective
parenting would be giving plenty of love and affection. (Epstein, 2010)Physical forms of showing
emotions of love would be hugging and kissing telling the children how much you love them every
day. No one knows when will be the last time you may see each other or talk to one another so it is
important for the children to feel and hear the three words of I Love You! Although it becomes
harder with teenagers and they may not want to hear the words, they still need to know that they are
loved. I always tell my children how much I love them. A couple of them won t let me give them a
hug, but they know I would if I could be

Caesar was killed by his friends for the good of their city. On the other hand, Martin was

for the assassinations didn t quite match up either, depending on how you view them. Martin was
killed because his assassin believed that what he was working towards for America was horribly
disgusting. Brutus killed Caesar for the good of Rome. Outcomes of the assassinations are mostly
similar. When Caesar died, citizens of Rome became outraged with this action. They began a war.
When Martin was killed, African Americans began to push harder and work harder towards the
hopeful future. Again, Julius Caesar wasn t the only political assassination, Martin Luther King Jr. is
