Analysis Of The Movie The Thin Red Line
The war film is a classic genre. Today, one has a wide variety of war films from which to choose.
But after watching most of them one will find that they are all quite similar. The one thing that all
these films have in common, even more so than the rather similar characters, is the way the camera
is used to portray life in war and on the front line. This appears to be the most traditional and
theatrical approach to portraying this subject, giving the audience what we think they want. Viewers
ultimately walk away saying the same thing. men make war heroic, and with that in mind these
films completely chose to ignore the alternative: that war is not heroic! War is filled with evil and
hatred, and it leaves men soulless and disturbed for the remainder of their lives. Terrence Malick s
The Thin Red Line( 1998) approaches war from an entirely different angle, literally and figuratively. I
will show how visual design speaks to the film s overall theme that war is not heroic, its unstable,
brutal, and an internal battle for the soul of men on and off the battlefield; and, furthermore, I will
demonstrate how simple aesthetic choices such as natural lighting, contrast, and color influence the
elements of this film that convey this message. The scene on which I want to focus my attention is
the ambush scene where the Americans emerge from the fog and bombard the Japanese camp. I
found that this particular scene embodied the entire film. Given that there is such minimal
Informative Essay On Halloween Costumess
Halloween costumes can be great fun even for adults. In fact, why should kids have all the fun?
Dressing up during Halloween can be equally entertaining for adults. Of course, you will not go
out trick or treat in but you can invite your friends and have a gala time partying Halloween style.
When it comes to adult Halloween costumes, you have to think a bit outside the box. The idea
here is to choose something that goes with your personality or theme. For women, it can be doubly
fun because they can easily take this opportunity to dress sexily as a fantasy or fictional character.
There are also quite a few naughty adult costumes for men and women that are sure to get a lot of
attention and/or laughs. These are great for gags at Halloween parties. Although, you have to be a
bit daring for these even though it is all in harmless fun.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if you are a great Spiderman fan, people will expect you to dress up like Spiderman
for Halloween. What they will not expect is for you to dress up like Peter Parker with the famous
Spiderman costume sticking out from underneath an unbuttoned shirt. Thinking along a different
line will often land you with a great costume idea. And unusual costumes always attract attention.
They are like puzzles waiting to be solved. An unusual costume can be a great way to start up a
conversation, no matter which side is wearing it. Adult Halloween costumes always have space for
innovation and a great way to innovate is through mixing and matching costumes. You can take
parts of older costumes and buy some new accessories to put together a custom costume based on
your ideas. This is a great way to ensure that you wear a unique costume. Nothing can be more
disappointing than finding someone else wearing the same costume at a Halloween party. It can get
especially bad if you don t like the other person and people start getting confused between the two of
What Is A Non-Traditional Family
With our rapid and perpetually changing society, we find that with time everything changes. Many
of these changes include: fashion, trends, communication, technology, and also family. It may
seem as if family does not have the ability to change, but recent studies suggest otherwise. A
family, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is a group of individuals living under one
roof and usually under one head. This definition still holds true today; however, the parameters
seem to be blurred due to rapid changes in our society. Since the mid 1900s researchers have been
seeing a trend in that our idea of a familyhas been changing. With recent events such as the
legalization of gay marriage, the term family seems to be evolving. Traditionally, a family is
associated with: a father, who is the bread winner; a mother, who is the the caretaker for the family;
and the children of the mother and father.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was raised in a nontraditional family, where my mother was everything due to her single parent
status, so I understand how the word family can be vague. Anything can be apart of one s family:
blood relatives, friends, and even pets. I, personally, think that family is defined as a group of
individuals who share some type of bond, allowing for intimate relationships. I think that family has
started to change since the 1970s, when the world began to see a shift in traditional family values,
and movements: feminism, and gay rights. Now when we think of family, the term house hold often
comes into play. I think that the main difference between the two is the relationships that are made.
A family is a more intimate relationship that involves love and nurturing, and a household consists of
individuals living under one
Cranola Diary Entry
Head Gamemaker Felix Junius
BOOM.
Cranola from Eleven stood there, wide eyed and scared, staring down the massive queen. She had
already survived for twenty one days, and her biggest competitor had just died. Now, she only had
to face one more person the weak looking boy from Six.
Her legs trembled in fear as she advanced upon the boy, who had finished the challenge mere
minutes before her, minutes that seemed like an eternity. The apprehension was clear on her face.
How strong is this boy, to survive twenty one days of fighting and of terror?
She was about to find out. They stared each other down, crude knives in hand. Six was the first to
move, raising the shiv to throw. His stance was off, and Felix saw that Cranola knew it as well. She
easily sidestepped and threw her own, striking Six straight in the chest and running away. ... Show

Felix, there is a very important issue that we absolutely need to address, came the response. The
voice sounded familiar, almost, and he recognized that, even surrounded by his clouds of
drowsiness. It almost sounded like the voice secondary to his own, the one that breathed down his

him, silvery revolver in one hand, taser in the other. The same warm fuzzy feeling overcame him,

down the President, but he now realized that his imaginary scene was much different than the real
thing.
Trying to reflexively bluff his way out of the situation, he asked, with his casual air, still blinking
away the lingering strands of sleep, Good afternoon, how are you today? His body felt heavy, too
heavy, to even bend down to reach his gun; this was his only chance, and he had to execute it
Dr. Paul Farmer In Mountains Beyond Mountains

Oedipus Rex Heroism Quotes
Greek Tragedy Paper: Heralds of Heroism Sophocles s Oedipus Cycle tells the tragic tale of a
cursed king named Oedipus, marked by a Delphic prophecy predicting incest and patricide by his
hands, which were especially illicit and taboo crimes at the time. In a doomed pursuit of knowledge,
Oedipus damns himself when he learns that he sired four children by his mother, who coincidentally,
is also his beloved wife. Classical literature instructors agree that Oedipusis the epitome of a hero,
despite the atrocities he has committed. Both in his actions and in his bearing, Oedipus can be
considered not only a classic hero, but a tragic heroof Grecian tradition. First of all, by contemporary
definition, a hero must be brave and fearless in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oedipus is shown by this quote to be very honest and virtuous, the best qualities of a king. Even
though he discovers that he was the murderer of Laius and partially to blame for his mother s/wife
s death, he carries out his promise to exile whomever responsible for the former. Oedipus inflicts a
horrid punishment on himself, preserving his honor. Other characters in general also hold the
monarch in high esteem. The Chorus exclaims that Oedipus, you have been called our King, and
have been honored supremely, holding power in great Thebes (line 1196 in The Oedipus Tyrannus
of Sophocles edition by Sir Richard Jebb). Heroes in most fairy tales hold great power and
distinction amongst their people. Oedipus is clearly in a position of such; he is recognized by all
as an honorable and noble ruler. However, with honor also comes hubris as Oedipus is compelled
to always protect his own honor, his family s honor, and his kingdom s honor, through any means
necessary. Years before his reign over Thebes, Oedipus met a stranger at a three way crossroads.
Slighted by the other man s insistence on his right of way, Oedipus unwittingly kills his own father,
displaying both hubris and a sense of honor. These two personality characteristics contribute to
Oedipus s heroism. However, compassion for other human beings is also an essential quality in a
