The Serial Podcast, By Sarah Koenig
Adnan Syed is accused of murdering his ex girlfriend, and various factors present him as a very
likely suspect. Information put together by the state don t add up, but instead prove he is innocent.
Is Adnan guilty or innocent for his ex girlfriend s death? In the Serial Podcast, journalist Sarah
Koenig discusses the case, committed almost seventeen years ago, and uncovers new evidence that
indicates Adnan s innocence. Adnan Syed has been viewed as a boyfriend, honor roll student, and a
murderer. Many described him as a smart, flirtatious, and a likable high schooler. On January 13,
1999, his ex girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, was murdered. Investigators immediately assumed Adnan as the
primary suspect because Hae had broken up with him, a month... Show more content on

He wasn t. I was like he s a p...I m trying to conv explain I m seventeen, like He s a player! He has
a lot of girls! (Episode 2: The Breakup p. 37). Undoubtedly, Koenig asserts an exceptional point,
Adnan is popular among the females in his school and he most likely isn t completely devastated
by their breakup. Although he was a bit emotional, he moved on. Others also advocated a similar
statement, But nearly everyone I ve spoke with, Adnan s friends and teachers say he took the
breakup like anyone would. Adnan s friend Mac Francis said Adnan initially was devastated and
jealous about the new boyfriend. Said he grumbled about it in a typical guy way, nothing strange.
Everyone I talked to said some version of this, that he wasn t rage filled or vindictive. He was just
sad (Episode 2: The Breakup p. 36). Sarah Koenig asked many people and none of them
announced anything extreme between Adnan and Hae after their breakup. After analyzing these
pieces of evidence, one can infer the claim of being upset over Hae isn t verified through anyone.
Another component to Adnan s innocence would be Asia McClain and the library. Thereafter, a
witness, Asia McClain, had physically spoken to Adnan when he allegedly murdered Hae. Asia
McClain was a high schooler that attended Adnan s school and composed a couple letters to him
after he was arrested. One of these letters reads, Dear Adnan I hope I
Gary Soto La Bamba Theme
Getting laughed at or making a fool of yourself is something every person tries to avoid. Whether
it s presenting a project, trying out for the soccer team, or even starting a trend trend, we all want
everything to turn out perfect. In Manuels case, he wants to step out of his comfort zone, yet his
idea of perfection is not close to what he is expecting, he experiences many errors throughout the
story of La Bamba. The author of Manuels story, Gary Soto, uses elements such as rising action,
symbolism, and also uses conflict to support the overarching theme; mistakes are a part of trying
new things.
First, the rising action in La Bamba supports the overarching theme: Mistakes are part of trying new
things. The author, Gary Soto, explains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soto explains that Manuel gets very anxious over the talent show, he is afraid that he will mess
everything up. Soto writes, Mr. Roybal assured Manuel that he would have a good record player
for the talent show, even if it meant bringing his own stereo from home. Soto shows that Manuel
has to be assured that he the show will turn out perfectly fine. The fact that Manuel is so stressed
over messing up his performance shows that he does not understand that mistakes are common in
his situation. Another instance that Soto explains is when Manuel is stressed about his
performance is where he is about to go on stage but begins to second guess himself. The text
states, Why did he raise his hand and volunteer? Why couldn t he have just say there like the rest
of the kids and not say anything? Soto shows that Manuel is having a rough time debating whether
or not he should have joined the talent show. Again, Soto explains that Manuel is stressed out over
his performance. Clearly Manuel has not opened his eyes and realized that if he would just calm
down everything would be okay. This is how Soto uses conflict to support the overall theme of La
Diabolical Characterization In The Open Boat
In the Open Boat by Stephen Crane, the correspondent s seems to show a change through his nature
of being a cynical man from the beginning of the story to the changed man he becomes toward the
end. I believe this change was caused by the brotherhood that was formed between the four men
along with the situation of them being lost at sea, which caused him to change and grow as a
character. I will support this claim with both textual evidence from the story and my own character
analysis of the character.

In the beginning of the Open Boat, the correspondent is portrayed as a hard bitten character that has
seen it all, and believes that no joy can be found in the world. This is hinted in the brief
introduction of his character that Crane gives us, The correspondent, pulling at the other oar,
watched the waves and wondered why he was there. (Crane 1048). We meet this character when he
is rowing the boat, something he complains about doing and is shown to detest. The correspondent
wondered ingenuously how in the name of all that was sane could there be people who thought it
amusing to row a boat. It was not an amusement; it was a diabolical punishment (Crane 1052). What
the others viewed as a small form of amusement, The correspondent made opposite opinion known
when he compared it to diabolical punishment , however even though the correspondent has made
his hatred known for rowing. He is shown to be willing to do it to the point of exhaustion so he
could allow his fellow
Testing Using Electronic Transmission Systems

Introduction Public Health Departments or agencies rely on hospitals, clinics, and laboratory data to
provide timely intervention in a community when there is an outbreak of disease to prevent
additional illness. Because the conventional methods of reporting via mail, facsimile, or telephone
require active participation of laboratory staff, automated reporting from clinical laboratories has
been proposed as a means to improve the quality and timeliness of disease notification[1]. To this
end, ELR has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ?usefulness? of ELR is largely driven by public health investigation and reporting. Over the past
decades, public health institutions have made much progress in creating secure systems for
electronic data transmission to improve the quality of laboratory reporting. Public health agencies
require health information technology vendors to provide secure transport protocols capable of
meeting the requirements of MU and ELR. Meaningful use is using certified electronic health record
(EHR) technology to:
Improve quality, safety, efficiency and reduce health disparities
Engage patients and family
Improve care coordination, and population and public health
Maintain privacy and security of patient health information [5].
Interestingly, these agencies do not know whether vendors encounter any challenges in meeting the
requirements of meaningful use. To improve ELR, it is important to understand challenges vendors
go through, if any, in meeting the requirements for MU. Identifying these barriers could create an
appropriate dialogue between stakeholders to find ways that can improve the system. To accelerate
adoption of ELR, the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advanced standards for
vocabulary, format, and messaging; funded the development of software; and conducted an
extensive outreach campaign to state and local health departments to increase use of the software
[4]. To this end, Kentucky
Clostridium Difficile Analysis
Clostridium difficile is a bacterium that is found in the human colonic flora that can cause diarrhea
and more serious conditions, such as colitis. This occurs if the physiological bacterial flora is
changed or damaged due to prolonged antibiotic use and if the concentration of C. difficile increases
significantly. The prolonged antibiotic use enables C. difficile to multiply and produce large
amounts of dangerous toxins. Therapy for those who suffer from this includes rehydration,
immediate stop of the causative antibiotic (usually clindamycin or amoxicillin), and new antibiotics
to reverse the symptoms such as vancomycin. C. difficile is easily transmitted within hospital
settings because its spores are resistant to the commonly used alcohol

Gothic Art and Architecture Have you ever walked into a church with high, vaulted ceilings, and
beautiful stained glass windows covering the walls while sending beautiful tints all across the room
as the lights shine through them? Well these are styles that were mainly used in Gothic art and
architecture and further developed into buildings we now have. From 1140 1500 France and
Northern Europe provided a destination for Gothic art and architecture to wow the populations with
the different and intricate styles encompassed into the works (AA). Many of these works were
created with new methods of building grand cathedrals that allowed grander spaces and supported

Gothic is applied primarily to the art produced in Western Europe from about the middle of the
twelfth century in France to the sixteenth century in other parts of Europe (chapter 13). The creation
of the styles strayed from previous eras of Classical art and are much more dramatic in appearance
and in size. Gothic architecture triumphed over others before it because of one main reason in
particular: the methods that were created to support the extremely high vaulted ceiling in Gothic
structures. One example of these ceilings is the inside of Chartres Cathedral (pictured below). It
is considered to be the greatest and best preserved example of Gothic architecture in France , with
ceilings that are nearly 120 feet tall and 45 feet wide (visual arts). These ceilings were made
possible by the new buttressing system. Buttressing allowed architects to channel the weight of the
ceilings and walls to specific points externally reinforced by heavy flying buttresses and supporting
piers , which allowed for the walls to weigh less (visual arts). Walls with a minimal load from the
buttressing allowed for the high ceilings that could be better supported and also hold materials like
glass, forming the famous stained glass windows in Chartres Cathedral as
Incarcerating Women In Prison Essay
After reading about the population of females in correction facilities, I came across the issue of
incarcerating mothers. Approximately 7 in 10 women under correctional sanction have minor
children (women offenders pg.7). Before reading this chapter, I have never put any importance to the
challenge of sending mothers to prison. For the most part, I believe that judges and juries should
consider the motherhood as a mitigating circumstance during a sentence. However, the age of the
child and the crime should also play a role in the type of sentence given to a woman.
An important issue that has to be dealt with is sentencing women that are pregnant or just gave birth.
One reason for this is acknowledging the high potential health risk a pregnant female can face in a
correctional facility. For example, a woman that is pregnant has to professional pregnancy
treatment. This means if the correction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The separation of a mother from a child can bring severe negative impacts. Depending of the
attachment strength of the mother and the child can cause for a broken social bond. The
attachment bond can lead the child to become involved in criminal acts himself. In some cases,
there are females that go to prison that were the main source of income for the home. So what
happens to child of a single mother that goes to jail that was providing for her child? Under these
type of circumstances, I believe that judges should consider of given alternative punishment than
incarceration. In my opinion, women who are pregnant don t belong in correction of facilities.
However, if the crime committed was severe, they could be incarcerated after a certain time of the
pregnancy. For mothers that have children, the process of sentencing should be accommodated
depending on the crime. The PSI report should be something significant for the judge to consider.
The PSI report gives information of employment, criminal record,
Gun Control and the Bill of Rights Essay
George Mason, a co author of the Bill of Rights, said To disarm the people is the best and most
effectual way to enslave them If this is true, why would anyone try to ban firearms in the U.S?
Guns have been a part of American history since we declared independence from Britain in 1776.
Many people believe that removing weapons from the hands of citizens is the only way to stop
criminals from shooting down people at malls and kids at schools, but this is not the case. Outlawing
guns is not the answer for effectively reducing gun crime.
According to Wikipedia, a firearm is a portable gun, being a barreled weapon that launches one or
more projectiles often driven by the action of an explosive force. The first firearms were invented in

Murder by knives was first, followed by clubs, then strangulation. It seems that by banning guns,
people used other ways to kill. On the other hand, Switzerland s gun policy is very different than
other nations. It requires all men to go through militia training at age twenty and issue an assault rifle
when they complete it. Switzerland has the lowest gun crime rates in the world, despite giving
everyone a high powered, fully automatic firearm.
Another hot topic that politicians debate about is allowing assault rifles, or select fire guns
(capable of semi automatic or fully automatic fire),which have the ability to shoot rounds as long
as you can hold the trigger down, in the hand of American citizens. Currently, eight states have
banned owning assault weapons in some sense. Some may argue that these guns are overkill, and
aren t practical for hunting or self defense, whereas other firearms fill that position well. In some
cases that might be true, but if multiple intruders enter your home armed, a pistol with a low
capacity clip may not suffice. Contrary to popular belief, gun crime has dropped significantly over
the past 20 years. Since 1993, violence involving guns has gone down 49% according to Pew
Research. The media is to blame for sensationalizing shootings and with the internet s influence an
argument that got out of hand can be seen as an all out battle. The Second
John Locke s The Memory Criterion Of Personal Identity
I think it s important to view human beings as human animals, despite the psychological aspects of
my argument. However, I don t fully agree with the Biological View because the psychology of a
human being is important in some respects. Psychology is essential when discussing personal
identity but not when discussing what makes a human animal a person. Therefore, I concede that
Locke s idea of consciousnessis a necessary condition for personal identity, but not for personhood. A
human animal, or person, remains the same animal throughout their lifetime. Their existence is
completely based on maintaining the same biological body; their physical presence as a living being
on this earth is their most important characteristic.
To reiterate, according ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think in this case, when I talk about Max Jones before his accident, I am referring to a different
person than when I talk about him Jones after his accident. This human animal became a shell of
his former self. When he woke up, he lacked the characteristics that made him the person he was.
If I asked Max Jones, prior to the accident, if he would consider himself the same person if he
couldn t remember his family or any of his life, I am certain he would say no. Instead, I think any
rational being would say, I, Max Jones, am who I am because of my experiences in this world,
without them I would be a different person. Therefore, if my body wakes up and has forgotten
everything it has previously experienced, a new personal identity will arise, and the new being will
not be me. The words I and me have different meanings post accident leaving room for multiple
identities throughout a
Brief History And Evolution Of Las Vegas
A Brief History and Evolution of Las Vegas and its Casino Marketing Strategies Angela Rossetti
Abstract Every year Las Vegas attracts nearly thirty five million tourists. What was once a barren
desert is now one of the most well known cities in the world. Known for its neon lights and
license to sin, it is no wonder that the success story of the city of Las Vegas appears to just be
beginning. This paper will look at the history of Las Vegas, various marketing strategies within Las
Vegas, and take a closer look at specific marketing strategies of some of the most successful hotels
currently in the city that lives under the famous neon lights. History of Las Vegas Las Vegas found

Sixty six slot machine licenses were issued to store, restaurant, and club owners by the city that
year. Las Vegas was now on the map. Its slow but steady growth resulted in newly paved roads,
new construction, and an increase in tourism. A controversial law allowing divorce after the
shortest required period of residency in the country brought considerable income to the city as
well as thousands of new residents hoping to get unhitched. Construction of the Boulder Dam
began that year as well. Workers and their families flocked to the outskirts of Las Vegas with
nothing but time and extra money from their new jobs. Construction workers comprised the
majority of the gamblers for this town early on. Despite the bad press that the workers were
bringing to Las Vegas, their gambling losses provided the revival that the city so desperately
needed. As the completion of the construction of the Boulder Dam neared, the city launched an
advertising campaign to promote tourism in Las Vegas. Flyers were distributed across the
southerwestern states. Advertisements were posted in train, airline and bus ticket offices across the
nation. The town continued to diversify through water and nature events at Lake Mead, sporting
events, rodeos, and the like. These events were promoted via talk radio in surrounding states. Las
Vegas welcomed a new wave of tourism with open arms and began to see growth like never before.
While divorces helped sustain Las Vegas financially,
E Mails From Your Boss And A Man Named Paul Allen
Today, more than ever we rely on computers and staying connected. We use them at work, school
and for entertainment. E mails from your boss, write a paper for school, or play the latest games.
In fact, even the most technologically illiterate person can run a personal computer. This was not
the case in the early days of Microsoft, IBM, Apple and other technological innovators. In 1975
Bill Gates and a man named Paul Allen had the idea to form a small partnership they called
Microsoft with the idea to put a personal computer in every home in America. Computers up until
this time were massive, requiring more space and power than the average house could handle,
which made this seem like a pipe dream at best. Gates and Allen had been hard... Show more content

Windows 1.0 was radical in its time, as only the second operating system in existence with a GUI.
Windows 1.0 also used a mouse to click instead of requiring the user to type commands. The
mouse was such a new concept for users that Microsoft even included a game called Reversi to
teach consumers to use the mouse. Windows 1.0 also came preinstalled with some now iconic
programs like Calculator, Paint, and Notepad. In 1987 Windows 2.0 was released with some
recognizable changes. There were now Desktop icons, and improved graphical support, keyboard
short cuts, and also included the ability to customize the screen layout. Another key feature was
the addition of Control Panel. Windows 2.0 was also the first operating system to require updates
as hardware improved. Microsoft released Windows 3.0 on May 22nd, 1990 and then Windows
3.1 on April 22, 1992. Microsoft hit the nail on the head with Windows 3.0 and sold 10 million
copies in two years and became the most widely used operating system. Windows 3.0 and 3.1
were the first windows operating systems to use virtual memory. Virtual memory is a feature of an
operating system (OS) that allows a computer to compensate for shortages of physical memory by
temporarily transferring pages of data from random access memory (RAM) to disk storage. It also
