Standardize Work
Standardized work is one of the most powerful but least used lean tools. By documenting the current
best practice, standardized work forms the baseline for kaizen or continuous improvement. As the
standard is improved, the new standard becomes the baseline for further improvements, and so on.
Improving standardized work is a never ending process. Basically, standardized work consists of
three elements: Takt time, which is the rate at which products must be made in a process to meet
customer demand The precise work sequence in which an operator performs tasks within takt time
The standard inventory, including units in machines, required to keep the process operating

At Toyota workers are encouraged every single day to come up with improvement suggestions.
And as their new ideas are tested, accepted and implemented the standard worksheets are updated.
Consider as you work in your Kaizen Groups how to make your decisions visible to all, how to
prepare a standardized work form, and where the form should be displayed. http:/
/www.leanblog.org/2010/02/my thoughts on standardized work/ I ve written about many of
these ideas and themes before in various blog posts, but I wanted to consolidate my thoughts on
the Lean concept of standardized work in a single place. This is partly for my own personal
reference (and future linking), but also can prompt some discussion amongst my friends, the
Lean Blog readers. What I m documenting here is consistent with what I ve been teaching and
coaching people on in healthcare the last five years, especially. The concepts described here are
directly influenced by Toyota (especially the book Toyota Talent: Developing Your People the
Toyota Way) and, I believe, is very consistent with what s expressed in Dt. Atul Gawande s The
Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right). These points are also expressed in the chapter on
Standardized Work in my book, Lean Hospitals: Improving Quality, Patient Safety, and Employee
Satisfaction. This is a looong post, so the quick bullets: Standard IZED Don t standardize for the
sake of standardizing It s created by the people who do the
The Components Of An Effective Positive Behavior Support...
The purpose of this project is to analyze the components of an effective Positive Behavior Support
Plan and the effect a positive behavior support plan has on student behavior and academic
achievement when compared to those students who are considered high risk and not have a behavior
support plan in place. The goal is to help the students monitor their own behavior, increase their
academic achievement and eliminate the possibility of an involuntary transfer to an alternative
education setting such as continuation high school. The 1997 amendments to the Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) made functional behavioral assessment (FBA) and positive
behavior support legal requirements for schools serving student with disabilities. The 2004
reauthorization of IDEA retains the emphasis on supporting students using FBA guided positive
behavior support (Benazzi, 2006). Positive Behavior Support is a problem solving approach to
understanding reasons for problem behavior and designing comprehensive interventions that are
matched to hypotheses about why problem behavior is occurring and to the individual s unique
social, environmental and cultural milieu. A critical goal of PBS is not just to reduce problem
behaviors in the short term, but also to create long lasting changes that will have an impact on the
individuals overall quality of life (Safran, 2006). The increase of disruptive and dangerous behavior
in schools has reached alarming proportions. As a consequence,
Prejudice And Racism In Canada
I went to a high school in Canada where I graduated with one coloured student, so my ideas of
race are completely different from students here. Coming down here was a bit of a shock how big
racial issues were, it was something I never really had to deal with at home and I hadn t put much
thought into it. One of the biggest eye opening things that happened on campus what the black lives
matter march that happened last year around campus. I just happened to be going for dinner at the
main dining hall when it started out in the courtyard out front. It was a new experience because there
had never been protests or marches tribute to racewhere I grew up, I had never seen people
passionate about it like I saw that night. I wouldn t go as far to say that I was unaware of race
before this happened, I have been educated on the subject, but since I believe I have become much
more aware of it. I have started to realize discrimination as well as pay... Show more content on

I never saw the significance that race can play in anything, and now I m starting to see the subtle
ways it works, like it has in the case of this article. I probably would have assumed the dropout rate
was due to external factors that were not mentioned in the article. I would not have understood the
connection between lower income families being those of colour. I also probably would have
assumed that the reason that community colleges had such a high dropout rate was because it was
full of kids who didn t want to be there in the first place.
Another way my eyes have been opened about race through this course is when we talked about
images of God. I had never really considered God being any other race then my own. I didn t
realize that so many different cultures had created their own depictions of God and Mary. I had no
idea what Lady of Guadalupe was until this
Consumerism In The Hippie Movement
The 1960s Hippie movement was a major point in the American history. In the 1960s a certain
class of young people associated their lifestyles with the ideas of freedom, peace, and love.
Hippies acted against white upper middle class lifestyle because they thought it was based on the
wrong ideology. Hippies were against consumerism and American suburban life of the late 1950s
and early 1960s was embodied in itself the idea of consumerism. Hippies, on the other hand, felt
better about communal life with equal distribution of social goods. Traditional bigger share and
consumerist greed as concepts of American society were despised by Hippies. White middle class
suburban America with its traditional values and financial prosperity of baby boom generation was
ideologically unfit for the energetic American youth. Seeing half of the world starving (Africa,
India, China) Hippies considered it highly inappropriate to bath in economic prosperity and
technological progress with half of the world being deprived of basic human needs. That way
Hippies alienated them from their parents presenting an alternative lifestyle to that of consumerism.
Traditional business like lifestyle of white middle class in America was based on financial success
and economic prosperity as the features of happiness. Hippies claimed that happiness does not come
from money but goes along with peace, love, and unity (Moretta, 45). While typical American family

Examples Of Foreshadowing In Shattered Air
In my novel, Shattered Air, their were numerous literary devices in the few pages I read.
Foreshadowing, Before they departed Glacier Point, Clu Cotter bought a postcard showing a
lightning bolt striking Half Dome (page 93 Madgic). The reason why I choose this literary device
is that the narrator has been talking about how the sky s are starting to turn darker and darker.
Even the park rangers put up signs saying do not go up the summit if storm is on the way. Another
reason why I choose foreshadowing is Pippey brought his younger brothers, Hoog and Crozier, to
help steer them to the write path. Before they arrived, they had practice with CPR and other
procedure just in case something bad happened. On page 89, Hoog and Crozier we re alike
Rabies Virus
History of the Virus
The rabies virus is a major public health hazard all around the world, despite the strategies that have
been put in place to fight this infection. It is estimated that the disease kills an average of 35,000
people every year, mostly in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. It is a viral disease which directly
leads to the death of the infected individual or animal. Human beings contract the infection from a
bite from a rabid animal, but human to human transmission normally occurs as a result of organ
transplantations. The rabies virus is all over the globe except a handful of nations in which there are
effective quarantine systems, natural barriers such as rivers and mountains or rigorous eradication of
the disease. By 1995, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The remaining three include the EBLV (European bat lyssavirus) both 1 and 2 and the Australian
bat lyssavirus genotype 7. Other viruses that belong to this genus are the Obodhiang and the
Kotonkan viruses. The genotype one strain of the RABV was discovered to undergo genetic
adaptation per host and the environment. That is why in specific areas, the disease was
transmitted by only one host species (Shantavasinkul et al., 2010). Since the dog or canine is the
most widely spread carrier in the world, it explains why the disease was able to spread worldwide.
The canine is the biotype of the RABV and thus facilitated the spread of the disease. Some novel

They have had the privilege of a worthy competitor constantly driving them to be smarter, faster,

relationship between Coca Cola Pepsi is a healthy one that each corporation has learned to appreciate.
Throughout the years Coca Cola has made many pricing decisions but one might say that their
ultimate goal has always been to maximize shareholder value. As Cola consumption has decreased
in the US Colas have come to realize the untapped international market. In 2003 both Coke and
Pepsi had a solid presence in India and had each introduced a 300mL bottle. In order to grab market
share Pepsi began to drop prices (even with summer approaching, which was contrary to policy in
America).
Shortly thereafter, Coca Cola decided to drop their prices slightly, but focused on the reduced price

Armed Force Case Study
How would you determine the size and composition of the armed forces in order to protect the
interest of the U.S.?War may be a necessary evil. However, when Jimmy Carter spoke these words
he added that We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other s children . This
belief, I believe is what many Americans including myself now think and preach as the image of the
military has taken a downturn over the last few years. This downturn can be attributed to the various
mistakes that the congress has made regarding military spending in particular. In my determination,
the military should be at a smaller, efficient size than it is now while maintaining an advancing,
mighty grasp of power and security. When it is suggested that the military should be cut down to a
smaller size,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To amend the inefficiencies, we have to develop better methods of managing the Department of
Defense s spending. The DOD has too many employees that aren t essential. Totaling over
800,000 workers, 100,000 more than the amount at the peak of WWII, a war that cost involved
over 40% of the country s GDP. The DOD also needs to fix the weapons manufacturing sector
which approves weapons to be built before full evaluation and testing. This leads to substantial
waste when the developing weapon system fails due to bad planning such as the Crusader cannon,
Comanche helicopter, Future Combat system, EFV vehicle as a few. The DOD also has a large
amount of extensive infrastructure that isn t being fully utilized such as the 4000 bases we station
troops at around the world. Many have fewer than 100 troops. This lead to the second thing, our
current foreign policy stretches our troops thin across the globe so we can play world policeman
and this is an expensive, negligent strategy. This maneuvering of troops causes many dispute that
could be avoided and has become too expensive for the little payoff it
Understanding The Dynamic And Empowering Leadership Process
Every day we interact with a variety of people in different situations. Understanding the dynamic
of others can help us improve these interactions. We are all different in our own ways, yet at the
same time were are all very similar. To be an effective leader, it is important to understand these
similarities and differences. Chapter five of Exploring Leadership by Komives describes how
differences need to be understood in order to create an inclusive and empowering leadership process.
One of the first steps in understandingothers is learning how people build relationships. People
build relationships off of commonality. We group upon similar interest, a club, or a characteristic.
These relationships create associations. According to Maslow s hierarchy of needs, people need
to feel a sense of fulfillment and need to feel like they belong. Relationships help to form this
fulfillment. But more importantly, relationships are built off of a common purpose. As leaders, I
feel it is very important to understand others so you can adjust your behaviors in order to include
everyone. This type of inclusiveness build relationships and helps a leader to serve his goal or
purpose. It is also important to recognize groups contain differences. These differences could be
caused by genderor culture. Males act and react differently than females. Sometimes we confuse our
sex roles for gender roles. For example, women are not the only sex to be nurturing of children.

Military Self Assessment
The military has shaped me in countless ways, and while everyone is born with predisposed
personality traits, many other characteristics are honed through experiences and environmental
factors. As a leader, it becomes important to understand and assess how life experiences and the
environment affect organizational behavior, personal interactions, and individual behavior. One
element of self assessment involves understanding individual strengths and weaknesses through
introspection; the Army requires its leaders to continually assess their strengths and weakness. My
three greatest strengths, emotional intelligence, ability to think critically, and work ethic, are a mix
of natural ability and learned behavior from my upbringing in rural Alabama.... Show more content

Early in my Army career, I noticed the most universal trait that always seemed separate an
individual s performance was hard work working, and those people that cared about their
contribution to the team. To this day, those valuable lessons from childhood my childhood on the
farm make my professional endeavors easier to achieve. Generally, hard work indicates a caring
for something greater, and this translates into a dependability and flexibility that grew from my
strong work ethic. As a senior in my university s Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program,
I was nominated to hold a senior leadership position, and I received the nomination because of my
compassion, work ethic, dependability, and flexibility. My work ethic is the most important
strength I possess, and it has served me well in my personal and professional life. I have succeeded
in the Army in part due to three of my strengths: emotional intelligence, critical thinking and hard
work. The lessons I learned in early childhood and my predispositions fostered a capacity to engage,
analyze, and follow through with tasks, and while no one gets to where they are by themselves, my
three greatest strengths have separated me from my peers. Furthermore, I am confident these skills
will enable me to stand out as a student at the graduate level once I am granted admission into The
Asymmetric Warfare Is An Inherently Relational Concept
The asymmetry in asymmetric warfare is an inherently relational concept. It refers to a relative
dissimilarity between opponents in battle, derived from a difference in relational strength amid
warring sides. This asymmetry has tended to be in terms of status and organization; means and
resources, goals and objectives; and strategies and tactics. The relationship between the belligerents
in today s conflicts varies in many tactical, strategic and operational levels, which has come to be
perceived as changing warfare. This popular perception is that with the rise of asymmetric warfare,
conventional warfare had transformed from a customary and symmetric exercise into an irregular,
avant garde, asymmetric experience. In contrast to this perspective, the main argument here is that
asymmetric warfare is not a new genus of warthat has risen in the twentieth century as a distinct
revolution in military affairs, but rather, asymmetric warfare is a perennial characteristic of warfare,
or set of distinct conflict dynamics in warfare that occasionally surface out of asymmetric strength
between opponents in war.

At the foundation of this essay is a question calling for the analysis of the rise of asymmetric
warfare . However, after analyzing the history of asymmetric warfare and the changes and behaviors
that have taken place through this time as this essay will do my perspective is critical of the
assumption in the question that asymmetric warfare has risen . Warfare, in
