Class 9 Physics – Motion Test (No

Graphs or Derivations)
Total Marks: 50

Time: 1.5 Hours

All questions are compulsory.

Section A – Very Short Answer (1 mark each × 5 = 5 marks)

1. 1. Define average speed.
2. 2. What is the SI unit of velocity?
3. 3. Can a body have zero velocity but non-zero acceleration? Give an example.
4. 4. What does negative acceleration indicate?
5. 5. Define displacement.

Section B – Short Answer Type I (2 marks each × 5 = 10 marks)

6. 6. Differentiate between distance and displacement with examples.
7. 7. A body moves 10 m north, then 10 m east. Calculate total distance and displacement.
8. 8. A bus increases its speed from 20 km/h to 60 km/h in 10 seconds. Find its
acceleration in m/s².
9. 9. An object is thrown upwards with a velocity of 19.6 m/s. How long will it take to
reach the highest point?
10. 10. An object covers 12 m in 2 seconds and then 24 m in the next 2 seconds. Is its
motion uniform? Why or why not?

Section C – Short Answer Type II (3 marks each × 5 = 15 marks)

11. 11. A scooter moving at 10 m/s is stopped in 5 seconds by applying brakes. Calculate the
acceleration and distance covered before coming to rest.
12. 12. A train moves with a uniform acceleration. It attains a speed of 72 km/h in 30
seconds. Find the acceleration and distance travelled.
13. 13. A car travels with a uniform speed of 72 km/h for 15 minutes. How much distance
does it cover?
14. 14. A ball is thrown upwards and returns to the ground after 4 seconds. Find its initial
velocity and maximum height.
15. 15. Explain how motion in a straight line differs from circular motion. Give one example
of each.
Section D – Long Answer Type (5 marks each × 4 = 20 marks)
16. 16. A train starting from rest attains a speed of 108 km/h in 1 minute. Find:
(a) Acceleration
(b) Distance travelled
(c) Average speed during this time
17. 17. A vehicle moving with an initial velocity of 25 m/s is stopped in 20 seconds.
Calculate:
(a) The acceleration
(b) Distance it travels before stopping
(c) Whether the motion is uniform or not
18. 18. An object falls freely from a height of 80 m. Find:
(a) Time taken to reach the ground
(b) Velocity just before hitting the ground
(c) Is the motion uniform or accelerated?
19. 19. A body moving with uniform acceleration covers 150 m in 5 seconds and 320 m in 8
seconds. Calculate:
(a) Initial velocity
(b) Acceleration
