Time: 1 Hour

SECTION A – Objective Type [1×6 = 6 marks]

Choose the correct option. Note: In some questions, more than one option may be
correct.

1. Which quantity has both magnitude and direction but is not a vector?
A) Distance B) Speed C) Displacement D) None
2. SI unit of speed is:
A) m B) m/s C) km/h D) m/s²
3. A car covers the first half of a distance at 40 km/h and the second half at 60 km/h.
The average speed is:
A) 50 km/h B) 48 km/h C) 54 km/h D) 45 km/h
4. Which of the following can never be negative?
A) Displacement B) Velocity C) Distance D) Acceleration
5. The acceleration of a body is zero. The body:
A) Must be at rest
B) Must be in motion with constant velocity
C) Must be moving with changing speed
D) Must be moving on a circular path
6. An object moves with an initial velocity of 20 m/s and comes to rest in 10 seconds.
Find the uniform acceleration.

SECTION B – Short Answer Type [2×4 = 8 marks]

7. A bus moves with a uniform acceleration of 1 m/s² for 10 seconds. If its initial speed
was 5 m/s,
b) Calculate the distance covered.
8. A bus travels 120 km in 3 hours and then 180 km in 2 hours.
b) Calculate the average speed.
9. A cyclist moves in a circular path of radius 50 m. After completing one full circle in
100 seconds, find:
a) Distance travelled
b) Displacement
10. A car travels the first 60 km of its journey at a speed of 40 km/h and the next 90 km
at a speed of 60 km/h.
a) Calculate the average speed for the entire journey.

SECTION C – Long Answer Type [4×3 = 12 marks]

11. The minute hand of a clock is 6 cm long.
a) Calculate the displacement of the tip of the minute hand after 15 minutes.
b) Calculate the displacement of the tip of the minute hand after 30 minutes.
12. An object is moving in a straight horizontal line with an initial velocity of 5 m/s and
uniform acceleration of 2 m/s².
a) Calculate its velocity after 8 seconds
b) Calculate the total distance covered in that time
13. A car moving on a straight horizontal road with an initial speed of 20 m/s sees a
speed breaker 200 meters ahead. The driver applies the brakes and the car comes to
rest just before the speed breaker.
a) Calculate the uniform acceleration of the car.
b) How much time does it take to come to rest?
