Info: Your account is in a forbearance because we cannot recalculate your monthly payment amount at this time.
Account: EXXXXX1347
Dear BRANDI,
Your loan is over 75 days delinquent. You previously provided consent for the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to pull
your income and family size information from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for your Income-Driven Repayment
(IDR) application. In cases when your student loans go over 75 days delinquent, ED will use that information from the
IRS to direct Nelnet to put you in an IDR plan with the lowest monthly payment amount possible.
Currently this process for recalculating your monthly payment is not available and, since you are currently over 75 days
delinquent, FSA has directed Nelnet to place your account into a forbearance until such time that we can use this IRS
data to recalculate your monthly payment amount to make your payment potentially more affordable.
What does this forbearance mean to me?
• Your forbearance begins on 10/28/24 and will last until such time that we can recalculate your monthly payment
amount or until July 31, 2025, whichever occurs first.
• The time in the forbearance will continue to accrue interest and will not receive credit toward Public Service
Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) or IDR forgiveness.
• Any payments made while on this forbearance will first be applied to any outstanding interest balance and, if no
interest remains, your outstanding principal balance.
• If you would like to opt out of this forbearance, please contact us at 888-486-4722. Once you opt out your
account will be considered current and in repayment. If, once you opt out, you once again continue to miss
payments you will once again be considered delinquent.
• If you do opt out, we highly recommend you submit a new IDR application so we can get you on a repayment
plan that has a lower monthly payment amount so you can avoid future delinquency. To get on a more
affordable IDR plan immediately, you can submit a new IDR application via StudentAid.gov/idr.
If you have any questions regarding what we have done to your account, please call us at 888-486-4722.
