PATTERNS
GROUP 8
ARIES JAY CABASUG
Patterns are repeating elements in
your graphic designs. In order to
have a pattern, you must have at
least two elements working in
concert with one another. You can
have a pattern that takes up your
entire design, which can emphasize
continuity and repetition, or a
pattern that simply occurs a couple
of times over the whole design.
Texture and patterns can
accomplish several key goals in
your piece. They can:
•Define surfaces
•Show or impact scale
•Convey a specific design style
•Add visual interest to a particular
area of the design
•Draw attention to a specific area
EXAMPLE OF
PATTERNS
Geometric Patterns
Geometric patterns use various shapes and combine them in
a repeated and cohesive way. The most common shapes we
will see in geometric patterns are triangles, rectangles,
hexagons, circles, and rhombuses.
By playing with the shapes and adding color, an
artist/designer can create a truly expressive pattern design
that can either be used on its own or complement other
elements.

Abstract Patterns
Abstract design patterns can add a touch of modern
art to any design and appeal to our imagination.
Whether you’re creating an ad or an artwork,
abstract patterns can help you to create a
contemporary look. Be careful, though, abstract
patterns can make a layout look super busy. So, make
sure to balance it out with other less-busy elements or
backgrounds.
ABSTRACT PATTERNS
•
Modernist graphic design patterns
Inspired by the early 20th century Art Deco movement,
these modernist patterns are all about geometry and bright
colors. The repeated constructions of symmetric shapes
create a unique visual world. These patterns are usually
elaborated to the point of perfection. They can successfully
go well by themselves as wallpapers, frames or decorative
patterns. When combined with other elements or advertising
messages, they compete for attention.

ADVANTAGES OF
PATTERNS DESIGN
1.Emotional Impact: The right pattern can strengthen the emotional impact of a
composition, adding depth and life to an image.
2. Consistency and Unity: Patterns create a sense of consistency and unity in a
design project, making it look cohesive and well-organized.
3.Attention-Grabbing: Patterns can capture more attention by adding texture and
visual interest to a design.
4.Brand Recognition: Repeated patterns can help establish brand equity and
presence, making it easier for audiences to recognize and remember a brand.
5.Guiding the Viewer: Patterns can guide the viewer’s eye to specific elements of the
design, emphasizing important parts and improving the overall user experience.
6.Versatility: Patterns can be used in various design trends and applications, from
minimalism to more complex designs, making them a versatile tool for designers.
DISADVANTAGES OF
PATTERNS DESIGN
1.Lack of Originality: Relying too heavily on patterns can lead to a lack of
originality and creativity in design.
2.Repetition Fatigue: Repeated patterns can become monotonous and cause
viewer fatigue if not used thoughtfully.
3.Overuse and Clutter: Excessive use of patterns can make a design look cluttered
and overwhelming, detracting from the main message1.
4.Complexity in Printing: Patterns can sometimes complicate the printing process,
especially if they involve intricate details or multiple colors.
5.Distraction: If not used correctly, patterns can distract from the key elements of
the design, making it harder for viewers to focus on the important information.
6.Scalability Issues: Patterns that look good on a small scale might not translate
well to larger formats, leading to issues with scalability.
