THE OAKWOOD MONTESSORI SCHOOL

TERM: Christmas
CLASS: Year 6
SUBJECT: Mathematics
WEEK: 8
DATE: 30 OCTOBER – 3 NOVEMBER, 2023
TOPIC: Circle
OBJECTIVE: By the end of this lesson, students should be able
to:

●Identify parts of a circle.

●Draw perfect circles
●Find the area and radius of a circle.
●Find the area of the semi-circle.
●Find quadrants and shaded portion
●Find the circumference of a circle, semicircle and quadrant.

MATERIALS NEEDED: Mathematical set

KEYWORDS: Circumference, Sector, Segment, diameter

PROCEDURE

● Welcome the students to the lesson and perform some

speed drill tasks as a review.

STARTER

● Present the worksheet on parts of a circle and encourage

the students to match accordingly. After 2 minutes, ask
them to put away the sheet and learn skills that would
help them to complete the task accurately.

MAIN PRESENTATION

● Introduce the topic and state the objectives of the lesson.

● Draw a circle on the board, ask the pupils to identify the

different parts of the circle.

● Encourage the students to draw a circle using a compass
● Instruct them to label the different parts of the circle.
Project a labeled image of a circle and ask the students to
review and edit their work.
● Play a quiz on parts of the circle to review the objective of
the lesson.
● Conclude the lesson and inform the students that they will
be learning how to calculate area and perimeter of circle.

LESSON 2: FINDING AREA AND PERIMETER OF CIRCLE

● Welcome the students to the second phase of the lesson.

● State clearly the objectives of the day.
● Review the concept of area and perimeter with a video.
● Teacher guides the students to derive the formula of the
area and perimeter of a circle.
● At the end of the clip, assign tasks to the students on area
and perimeter of circles from the textbook.

PART B

● Guide the students in finding the area of semicircle and

quadrants. Give each learner a circular sheet and direct
them to make semicircle and quadrant from the circle.
Discuss the parts of the new shapes.
● From the activities of the area and circumference of a
circle, the pupils derive formula for finding the area and
circumference of semicircle and quadrants.
● Sample a few examples with the students and then test
their independent ability to calculate area and
circumference of semicircle and quadrant.
● Review the objectives and then conclude the lesson.

AGE: 10 – 11 years

CONTROL OF ERROR: Teacher’s directed
