The Eyes Of Mahatma Gandhi, Harriet Tubman, And Oprah
Are human rights prominent enough to be defended? In the eyes of Gandhi, Harriet Tubman, and
Oprah, they are. Gandhi was a man who wanted to end racial justice in all parts of the world, while
Harriet Tubman wanted to help guide the slaves from the South to the North so that they can live a free
life. However, instead of taking a more direct approach, Oprah Winfreyused a public method. These three
passionate individuals stood up to enact change by fighting for human rightsand staying persistent and
determined. Mahatma Gandhi enacted change by striving to end racial injustice. He did this to show that
anyone of any race or religion should have equal rights. According to Satyagraha: Gandhi s Legacy , it
states, Gandhi developed his philosophy of Satyagraha, or resistance through non violent civil
disobedience to defend his rights and the rights of all Indians and non whites (Studysync Editors).
Gandhi himself had been faced with discrimination. However, instead of ignoring the situation, Gandhi
took a stand and did what was right to ensure equality among all people. The Studysync Editors stay, As
had been the case in the southern United States, Indians and other non white people were forced to ride
at the back of trains, use separate facilities, and were treated as second class citizens. Gandhi believed
that this was wrong . With his opinions in mind, Gandhi decided to get his beliefs out by starting non
violent protest. As the leader he was, he lead many protest that
Dietary Guidelines For America
Dietary Guidelines for Americans In previous years, The United States of America concluded that the
country needed dietary goals to prevent diseases, and to promote healthy eating habits and lifestyles. The
U.S Senate Select Committee decided that the newly found dietary guidelines would focus on energy
balance, which would prevent citizens from becoming over weight (1). Now you are probably wondering,
what exactly are dietary guidelines ? Dietary Guidelines are a series of dietary recommendations from the
NutritionCommittee of the American Heart Association (2). The guidelines were initially created to
advise advice amount calorie consumption and physical activity, in belief that this would prevent chronic
diseases. In 1980, the Dietary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 2010 DGA, Americans were asked to limit their sugar intake to no more than 15 percent of
calories a day as stated in article number four, but in the 2015 guidelines, Americans were asked to
limit the intake of sugars to less than 10 percent. Dietary fats are similar topics in both guidelines, and
both recommend that Americans limit the saturated fat intake to 10 percent. Although the percent
remains the same, the 2015 DGA believe that the advice for saturated fats, won t reduce cardiovascular
disease. In 2010 the DGA recommended that the dietary intake of cholesterol should be 300mg per
day (^4), but the 2015 DGA didn t allocate a recommendation to limit cholesterol. In the 2015 DGA,
the topic of caffeine was discussed. Lastly, the newly revised guidelines recommend drinking a cup of
coffee a day, due to its ability to promote healthy eating habits (6). Those were just a few of the
different subjects discussed in the revised Dietary Guidelines for Americans. My opinion on the
compliance of Louisiana and what steps should be taken, is very narrow. Louisiana is known for spicy
and salty food, which displays poor sodium intake. The state consumes entirely too much sodium and not
enough wheats. Due to our moist climate, we are usually responsible with the proper intake of seafood
and fruits, but we lack the intake of grains. In order for Louisiana to receive a proper and healthy
How Does Fielding Present The Character Of The Novel A...
In the novel A Passage to India by E M Forster there many different character that each reflect ideas,
some of the ideas would be relevant to a Victorian audience. There are a plenty of ideas that reflects the
attitudes and values common in the early 20th Century. Forster uses each of the characters to represent
different ideas and values towards issues like racism, which is present throughout the novel.

Cyril Fielding is a very interesting and unique character in the novel A Passage to India , because some of
his ideas wouldn t be relevant to a Victorian audience and he has a more modern attitude. Cyril Fielding
is an interesting character because he is the most associated to the Forster out of all the characters; the
character portrays Forster s attitudes and values at the time he wrote the book (1924). Amongst all the
Englishmen who are living in Chandrapore Fielding isn t very successful in comparison in developing
relationships with the native Indians. Fielding isn t a very racist character and doesn t share the same
views as characters like Rony. Fielding is an educator however he is less comfortable in the usual teacher
student environment; he prefers a more one on one teaching style. His preference in teaching style shows
that Fielding (and Forster) see the world as a bunch of unique individuals who connect with each other
through respect and courtesy for each other. Fielding s attitude towards teaching the Indians show s that
he values as intellects as well
The Rich Planter Class Of The Old South
Anyone searching for understanding of the rich planter class of the Old South would be fascinated with
James Henry Hammond and the Old South. Hammond s attention to detail regarding his plantations and
personal life gives clarity into the Old South period of American history. Gilpin Faust seamlessly guides
the reader through Hammond s life and career, leaving the reader to hate Hammond on one page, and
cheer him on the next. As president of Harvard University, Gilpin Faust s other books include Mothers of
Invention: Women of the Slaveholding South in the American Civil Warand The Creation of Confederate
Nationalism: Ideology and Identity in the Civil War South.
In James Henry Hammond and the Old South, Gilpin Faust s thesis puts James Henry Hammond as a
frontispiece of the Old South and the elite Southern way of life. Born into humble beginnings, Hammond
would go on to marry well and become one of the wealthiest planters of the Old South in South Carolina.
Hammond expected great things of himself and of his surroundings based on his ability to control them.
Attempting to realize these great expectations, Hammond became a leading political leader of South
Carolina as governor, and the United States as senator. Hammond s father instilled in him at an early age
that he would be ambitious and successful. To do so, Hammond would need to master every aspect of his
life. Hammond s inability to completely master himself and attain his lofty ambitions would eventually
contribute to
How Is Judah Alike
This paper is on the book Ben Hur and Ben Hur: A Tale of Christ. This is a wonderful story of a man
named Judah as he goes through struggles with his best friend Messala. Judah must do what must be
done to protect his family. Judah goes through many trials in the story while trying to rival with Messala.
Judah s mother and sister who have gone missing after they were taken prisoners. This paper is on the
differences between the movie and the book.

The movie and the book have many comparisons from the race, to the crucifixion of Christ. Many
similarities include how Judah became a slave, how poetic justice was served, and that Simonides is
crippled. In the story, Tirzah and her mother have lepersy, they are healed by Christ, and they get to see
Judah again and live in happiness. In the movie and the book, has a man vs man conflict like Messala
and Judah were like brothers, they end up fighting and become enemies, Judah and his family are taken
prisoners. Another conflict is man vs man when Judah is taken as a galley slave, and the boat is attacked
by pirates. A note conflict is man vs self when Judah is going through an internal conflict about Jesus and
if He is the Messiah or not. When Tirzah and her mother have lepersy is ... Show more content on

The most well known one was that the book started with Messala and Judah arguing about the Roman
army and Messala is not in it yet, but in the movie, Messala was already a high rank in the Roman army
and they do not fight until Judah rejects Messalas offer to help him stop the riots against the Roman
Empire. In the book Esther had was mentioned or seen less than 5 times in the book, but in the movie
Esther has a relationship with Judah. Palm Sunday is never seen in the movie like it is in the book. In the
movie Judah and Esther touch Judah s mother and sister who are lepers. Judah returns the ring to Pilate
and tells him to give it to Arrius. Jesus does not touch the mother and
The Adventurer s Guild In Albatross
The Adventurer s Guild in Albatross is a small building due to the small size of the settlement it s
located in. It s a simple structure because no one expects much of Albatross due to its isolated location
and relative lack of natural resources. In fact the primary reason why there s a Adventurer s Guild
building in there in the first place is due to its relative closeness to areas and ecosystems filled with
monsters and demihumans. Despite the incompetent adventurers who live in Albatross, Albatross could
theoretically turn into a wealthy location if skilled adventurers appeared who could reliably capture and
make use of the monsters and demihumans who lived relatively closeby, but instead the Adventurer s
Guild had the misfortune of being
Theme Of Law And Justice In The Merchant Of Venice
In Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice, one recurring pattern is male fixation with law and justice.
Although Antonio and Shylock command most of the play s dialogues pertaining to law and justice,
Bassanio does comment on law in two separate occasions. The first occurs when he is choosing between
one of Portia s chests. He recognizes the dangers of façades and asks, In law, what plea so tainted and
corrupt / But, being seasoned with a gracious voice, / Obscures the show of evil? (3.2.75 77). This line
is significant because it deals with law before the courtroom scene takes place and provides some
foreshadowing to how the cases are presented. Shylock and Portia, especially, employ different rhetorical
devices in order to sway the ruling in their favor. In a second reading, Bassanio s observation forces the
reader to ask who is seasoned with a gracious voice and who is morally right? During the courtroom
scene Bassanio plays a less important role, yet he recognizes how the law operates. Even though he
has no say with the ruling he pleads with Portia, And... / Wrest once the law to your authority. / To do a
great right, do a little wrong, / And curb this cruel devil of his will (4.1.211 214). Bassanio has a huge
desire to help his friend Antonio and knows, that at this point, only the law can help him. Thus, it makes
sense that he asks Portia to establish a favorable ruling. Bassanio s words seem to suggest that he has a
less black and white outlook towards law: he

Why Were There Two Revolutions In Russia In 1917
Why were there two revolutions in Russia in 1917? Why did the Provisional Government exist for mere
months, yet the Bolsheviks had consolidated their authority in the country by Lenin s death in 1924?

Between February and October in 1917, two revolutions occurred due to the Governments failing to
fulfill the needs of the Russian people. With the Tsar in power during Bloody Sunday that formed riots
and Government unrest and also the Russo Japanese War and World War One that left the Russian
people humiliated and in disarray. The reign of the Provisional Government was short due to failures to
provide land and food to the peasants and also the failure to pull Russia out of World War One caused
chaos throughout Russia once more. The rise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Government corruption was immense, the Russian economy was backwards, the Tsar repeatedly
crumbled the Dumas, Russia s involvement in Russo Japanese war and World War One was disastrous,
the fact that he ignored the requests of the people, and he had no support of the military, it left him no
other choice to abdicate from power.

With the collapse of the Tsar s Government in March 1917, the members of the Duma set up the
Provisional Government, led by Alexander Kerensky. The Provisional Government had one
disadvantage, it s leaders, who were all associated with the middle class and were not seen as having
anything in common with the working class, therefore it made the Provisional Government s job of
representing the working class a whole lot harder. There were many main reasons why the Provisional
Government only existed for mere months, with a large majority of those reasons being that their
decisions were greatly unpopular among the Russian people. A major blunder by the Provisional
Government that greatly affected their existence was the refusal of land reforms, this seemed to back up
the point that the Provisional Government did not understand the desires of the poor and didn t take into
account their living conditions. Another factor that lead to the removal of the Provisional Government
was the fact

Use Of Metaphors In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
Edgar Allan Poe loved to create many gothic literature that would provoke the readers to think deeper
to find meaning. This reality is made clear in Poe s short story The Fall of the House of Usher. In this
story, a nameless character visits his sick friend, Roderick Usher. Only to find the house(family) of
Usher to be in eerie shambles. The narrator finds the house to be producing a gloomy and depressing
atmosphere as does Roderick, who blames the house for his sickness. The use of metaphors in Poe s
short story illustrates the mirroring relationship of the house as it parallels Roderick and his family. In
Poe s short story, The Fall of the House of Usher, there is a comparison between the house and the Usher

Persuasive Essay On Animal Euthanasia
Animal Euthanasia

Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and
loyal. Difficult standards for people to live up to. This was said by Alfred A. Montapert the author of
many inspirational novels. I imagine many of you do not have a clue what the word Animal Euthanasia
actually means. According to the College of Veterinary Medicine means Euthanasia is a Greek term
meaning good death . In this context, its objectives are met when death is induced which causes no pain
or distress to an animal. Although this is not always the case in many different situations. Oftentimes
there are complications in this horrible procedure. Many of these complications cause pain and agony in
these poor, helpless creatures. The purpose of this plan is to relieve these animals that are in pain for
different reasons. This gives the innocent animal the opposite of what is thought to happen. Many people
believe that this a peaceful way to end an animal s suffering, although many times the animal ends up
dying a slow painful death because the medication did not work the way it is supposed to. Animal
Euthanasia should be illegal because the animal can suffer when the point of it is to end their suffering,
animals don t deserve to die, and some of the animals don t need to be put down. One reason that Animal
Euthanasia should be illegal is that the animals can suffer when they are trying to end their pain. Animal
Euthanasia is a
American Exodus by James N. Gregory
In American Exodus, James N. Gregory presents the struggles and misconceptions of the Okie migrant,
their defiance to cultural oppression and the change they brought. To analyze the brunt force of the Dust
Bowl and the Depression of the Great Plain region; he traces the movement from route 66, evaluates the
reception in California, and shows how the migrants both accommodated and left from the culture of the
Golden State. Throughout the book, he dismisses many of the stereotypes created by John Steinbecks The
Grapes of Wrath(1939), and Dorothea Lange s messages in photography. In doing so, Gregory presents a
social wave, from the norm of stereotyping and the defiance of culture itself by bringing about unity in the
form of narration of events and sub topics. Furthermore, this event is brought to the hands of historians
and future historians, a subject that often ignored in American history that has impacted various states
including California. The author s notion is that The Dust Bowlmigration movement teaches us about the
ways American culture is transformed through relocation. Gregory s claim is that without migration; our
sense of ideals, mannerisms, and literature would not be the same. It is through the Okies persona, morals,
and experience that an identity is established and therefore, a landmark in culture. Gregory organizes his
content in sections, Part 1: Migration and Resettlement and Part 2: The Okie Subculture to make his
point. In the first part, the
Media Influences On Our Perception, Knowledge, Attitudes,...
Media informs and influences us, as well as it impacts our perception, knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs
about certain things that take place. June 12, 2016 was a tragic night at Pulse, a gay nightclub in
Orlando, Florida. Omar Mateen, a 29 year old security guard, initiated a terrorist attack, killing 49
people and wounding 53. He used an AR 15 style rifle and a handgun to carry out the attack. The hate
crime took place just shortly before the club was supposed to close. When people started hearing
bullets being shot, they started to hide under the bar, on the ground of the dance floor, in the
bathrooms, looking for exits wherever they could. This is one great example of a tragic occurrence that
received a great amount of coverage worldwide, and it sparked a large amount of interest, reaction, and
attention from people. I want to discuss five articles specifically, published within a week s time of each
other, that are written with different intentions for different audiences. The first of the five articles would
be an article published by CNN on June 13, 2016 at 11:05am, Orlandoshooting: 49 killed, shooter
pledged ISIS allegiance. This article is very similar in context to an article published by NPR also on
June 13, 2016 at 7:29am, Orlando s Deadly Mass Shooting: What We Know Monday. Both articles had
the same availability of resources for the most part, since they were published the day after the shooting,
only hours apart. The introductions are written in the
