STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Course- Masters in Biomedical Engineering

University- University of South Florida

I am Suneela a graduate in Biotechnology from India, born in Andhra Pradesh. We are a family
of 4 members living in Vijayawada, India. My Father Mr. Satyanarayana Reddy is a Farmer, in
Vijayawada. My Mother Mrs. Lakshmi is a home maker. My Father will be sponsor to my
course study and all the expenses for education in USA. My family members have been
encouraging me and ready to provide any kind of support for my higher studies. This sort of
encouragement and discipline has always been a benefaction to me to chase my ambitions.

I completed my schooling at Shoghi high school a SSC board school known for its values and
principles, the foundation for my social and academic skills and achieved 9.5 CGPA in 10th
grade conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education in 2016. In 2019, I completed my
senior secondary education from Sri Chaitanya Junior College, under Board of Intermediate
Education securing 9.14 CGPA in the stream of BIPC specializing in Botany, Zoology and
Chemistry as major subjects. I have always been intrigued by the human body, the complex
machine which adapts and survives flawlessly to numerous endogenous and exogenous factors.
“Our world is built on biology and once we begin to understand it, it then becomes a technology”
and I enduringly believe in it. The need and necessity of biotechnologists in country’s
development turned my interest into passion and this made me to choose Bio-Technology stream
in Bachelor of Technology at K.L. University located in Vijayawada, where I have excelled my
laboratory skills in Microbiological experiments and new Gene innovations along with
communication skills and achieved 8.43 CGPA as final graduation score in 2023 till my 7th
semester.

USA is dynamic, vibrant, harmonious country with energetic and friendly people. It is currently
ranked third in education for international students among English speaking world. USA is
known for the standard of living it offers. Indians and other international students after getting
graduation from USA are acknowledged globally and are propounded for higher opportunities to
entrench their skills in their field of choice. The system of education encourages one to be
innovative, creative and to think out of the box. All the institutions deliver practical, and career
orientated training so graduates can be self-assured they have all the skills demanded by
employers. So, I embraced the opportunity to study in USA which contributes to strengthening
my foundation and in obtaining better opportunities when I return to my home country. By
travelling as an international student where I could experience to get dipped into diversified
cultures around the world meandering myself on the shores of tradition.

The skyrocketing tuition fees and cost of living in countries like Australia and UK which makes
it impossible for many international students to undertake higher education. Many surveys
conducted in the past few years revealed that international students are facing racism and
violence in other countries like UK and many universities are blacklisted due to high crime rate.
BIO-MEDICAL Engineering is undergoing geometric progression and humongous significant
changes in India over past decade and yet they lack proper infrastructure, equipment, and
advanced laboratory facilities to provide practical knowledge apart from theoretical science.
Desolately, there isn’t any favorable course in India which provides skills about microbiology
like how to produce an Antibiotic and to synthesize the disease-free food products or genetically
modified crops. This is why I chose USA to expand my education in the field of Biomedical
Engineering to get dominance over my colleagues in procuring high standard jobs.

“Personalized medicine is presented as future of patient care”. Both in USA and globally BIO
Medical Engineering are expeditiously up surging field and there is demand for qualified
professionals in a vast array of its areas. For example, one application of Biomedical Engineering
is the directed use of microorganisms for the manufacture of organic products (examples include
beer and milk products). Another example is using naturally present bacteria by the mining
industry in bioleaching. Biomedical Engineering is also used to recycle, treat waste, cleanup sites
contaminated by industrial activities (bioremediation), and to produce biological weapons.
Bioinformatics (also called "gold biotechnology") is an interdisciplinary field that addresses
biological problems using computational techniques and makes the rapid organization as well as
analysis of biological data possible. The compendious range of tasks and skills of Biotechnology
comprises developing new test procedures utilizing both conventional and innovative methods.
Since my graduation I have aspired to get into Biomedical Engineering, to expand my horizon
and to move ahead in my career ambitions. I sonorously believe that a master in Bio-Technology
bestows me with wide spectrum of knowledge and aids to fortify my clinical skills and creativity
with better understanding of science and to expand the perspective of my thought process for
greater future.

“Always go with the choice that scares you the most, because that’s the one that is going to help
you grow”. Generally, we dream a lot during our college years. We are often taken far by our
idealism, and we tend to expect many things from our course. This is very true, especially for
students who have taken up Biotechnology and life sciences in India or abroad. My career plan is
to obtain master’s degree in biomedical engineering at University of South Florida along with
practical and theoretical skills in this field. After completing my study in USA, I will return to
India to pursue my Ph.D. Truth be told that the scope of Biotechnology in India after Ph.D. is
developing rapidly. But doing Ph.D. in Biotech can be challenging but it will open a lot of career
options for me. There so many top-notch research institutes in India where I can pursue my
doctoral studies in Biotech by clearing National level Ph.D. Entrance exams like CSIR-NET,
JNU PhD Entrance Exam, GATE, NIPER PhD Entrance Exam. While doing my doctoral degree
I will apply for a job in research and development. R&D is also one of the best career options for
Biotech. Despite the fact that R&D is an interesting job, the bitter truth behind it is that it’s not as
high-paying as we think. But fresh graduates basically start with a minimum pay and will
probably get their first salary hike after four to five years of working in the industry. Moreover,
my parents’ lives in India and me being an elder of my family I have the responsibility to look
after them.

Thanking You,

SUNEELA.
