1. What inspired you to become a teacher?

My character is suitable for teaching. I KNOW İT BECAUSE OF MY CHİLDHOOD. When I was a

child I used to imitate my teachers. Even their teaching style, body language. I loved my teachers
and I took them as an example. For example we had a large garden in our village house and
there was a big gate made from iron and I took chokes from the market and even if tehere was
nobody in the garden I thaught as if there were lots of students and I were acting like teaching.
Sometimes I even asked questions and it was enjoyable for me. Also I think that other jobs
require hardwork and all time study from 8 to 5 and teaching is flexible for me. If I were a child I
would choose to be a teacher again because I love my job.

2. . Which aspects of being an English teacher do you like the most? Which aspects do you dislike?
English teachers are cool. When I was a student I noticed that English teachers are different
people. They are intellectual people, they are open to new ides. Being an English teacher is like
an umbrella. Because if you are an englich teacher you can also be a translator or a guide you
can work in companies. You don’t have to limit yourself to a certain point. Another point I like
most is speaking. Speaking in another language and telling ideas in another labguage is a
pleasure for me. About the things that I dislike there are some biases about learning languages
people think that they cannot learn it easily. And it so hard to overcome prejudices.

3. . How do you build relationships with your students?

I give the first impression as somehow strict and somehow friendly. I try to be myself in class. But
in young learners it is so different because if yo become so sincere with the young learners after
a while they don’t even care you. So a balance should be found.

4.How do you motivate your students?

I start my lessons from the small and easy things and when they answer it correctly they feel
confident from the beginning. And I somtmes say things like I know if you stdey hard you can do it or I
believe that you can be successful. And another thing I do to motivate my students is to playing
games.Games motivate them. In addition I sometimes give chocolates

5.In your opinion, what qualities and skills should an effective English teacher possess?

I think English teachers should be energetic, they should have the desire to teach the language. They
should be prepared before the lesson. They should have some lesson materails that they prepared
themselves.

6. Is Grammatical correctness important for your lessons?

I myself learned English by grammar translation method. I know that gthey say grammar translation
method is not efficient enough. I believe them partly, but I learned to speak by grammar translation
method. We didn’t have access to internet or books. So it is a part of my lessons BUT OTHER SKİLLS
should be integrated as well. We shouldn’t skip grammar. Some students maybe have the ability to learn
by grammar rules.

7. . How do you react to your students' errors?

It depends on our purpose with my students. If my student is preparing for an important exam I correct
their errors and pay attention to their errors. But if it is a speaking lesson just for pleasure I don’t even
correct their errors.

8.What is your overall attitude towards CLT?

I think it is efficient but hard to implement in Turkey.

9.The teacher has several roles, including "participant" and "facilitator." What do you think about this
statement?

Sometimes teachers should be observors, as well. Teachers should direct students when it is necessary.

10. . How do you make sure your students understand you?

About this question there are some disagreements among instructors, teachers, tutors. Most of them say
that speak in just target language in your classes do not speak l1 in the class. But I don’t agree with them
because there are some students who do not even understand Turkish instructions. So, it depends on
the students level. If the class is a1 level teachers have to use mother tongue. Bcause if teachers speak
English and students do not understand the teacher then what is the point. Sometimes L1 should be
used. Or using body language effectively may also be another solution. I am on the side of using mother
tongue as a facilitator.
