MANAGEMENT WITH IT
LECTURER:
Agile System Development
Iterative software development methodologies that provide flexibility, adaptability,
and quick deliveries.
CASE Tools:
Tools that provide automated assistance for software development.
The goal of CASE tools is to reduce the time and cost of software development and
enhance the quality of systems.
Information Systems:
A set of devices, procedures, and operating systems designed based on user criteria
to produce and communicate information for planning, control, and performance.
ERP System:
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a software system that helps organizations
streamline broad business processes, including finance, human resources,
manufacturing, and more.
Legal Feasibility:
Determines whether the proposed system conflicts with legal requirements.
Assesses whether the proposed project complies with all relevant legal requirements
and regulations.
What are the Main Functions of Different Systems:
1. Decision Support System (DSS):
o Assists managers who must make decisions that are not highly structured,
offering information that may not be predictable.
2. Financial Information System:
o Software system that helps manage the finances and business aspects of a
company.
3. Manufacturing Information System:
o Helps collect, store, analyse and distribute critical data related to all aspects
of the manufacturing process.
4. E-commerce System:
o Facilitates the buying and selling of goods and services online, allowing
customers to browse, select, and purchase products through a digital
platform.
5. Expert Systems:
o Mimics the decision-making abilities of a human expert in a specific domain,
using a knowledge base of rules and facts to solve complex problems.
6. Differentiate between function point (FP) and lines of code (LOC) estimation:
o Function Point (FP): Measures the functionalities delivered by a software
system based on the number of user requirements.
o Lines of Code (LOC): Simply accounts for the number of lines in the source
code, measuring the physical size of the program.
7. State any three elements of computer-based information systems:
o Hardware
o Software
o Procedures
o Data
o People
8. Q1. a) State three characteristics of a computerized Management Information
System (MIS):
o Provides input for managerial decision-making purposes.
o Supports well-structured decision situations.
o Typical information requirements can be anticipated.
9. b) What is a feasibility report?
o A report that evaluates aspects of a proposed project or solution to determine
if they are viable.
10. c) Define:
o i) Cost Estimation:
1. A technique used to find out the cost estimate.
o ii) Return on Investment (ROI):
1. A widely used measure to compare the effectiveness of IT systems
investment.
o iii) System Development Life Cycle (SDLC):
1. Defines different stages necessary to bring a project from its initial
idea to development, and later maintenance.
o iv) Capital Investment Analysis:
1. A budgeting procedure used by companies and government agencies to
assess the potential profitability of long-term investments.
11. d) What is a fact-finding technique and state three fact-finding techniques:
o Fact-finding techniques are various information-gathering methods. They
include:
1. i) Observation
2. ii) Interview
3. iii) Questionnaire
4. **iv) Review of records, procedures, and forms
12. Differentiate between system analysis and system design:
o System Analysis: The process of gathering data, interpreting information,
identifying issues, and using the results to recommend and develop possible
system improvements.

19. Differentiate between system analysis and system design:
o System Analysis: The process of gathering data, interpreting information,
identifying issues, and using the results to recommend and develop possible
system improvements.
o System Design: The process of developing a newer system or a strategy to
complement or replace an existing one based on data and organizational needs.
