Types of Rocks:

1. Igneous Rocks – Formed from cooling of magma/lava

o Examples: Granite, Basalt

o Intrusive (inside Earth) vs. Extrusive (surface)

2. Sedimentary Rocks – Formed from deposition of sediments

o Examples: Sandstone, Limestone

o Often contain fossils

3. Metamorphic Rocks – Formed by heat and pressure on existing rocks

o Examples: Marble (from limestone), Slate (from shale)
