Forces Simple Machine

The document is an educational worksheet focused on the topic of levers and forces, including definitions and examples of different classes of levers, types of forces like elastic, mechanical, magnetic, and muscular forces, as well as the concept of friction and gravity. It includes various exercises such as unscrambling terms, labeling diagrams, and differentiating between simple and complex machines. The document aims to enhance understanding of how simple machines work and the forces involved in physical interactions.

Simple Machine
1. Answer the following :

a) Name the class of lever used in the following: 1 st pic 1 st

class lever

2 nd class lever

b ) Differentiate between each class of levers

1st class lever has fulcrum in the middle

2nd class lever has load in middle
3rd class lever has effort in middle

c) Unscramble the following names of levers

a. a. irstf lassc lever first class lever
Hint:a sea saw where the fulcrum lies between the effort and
load

b. b. a airp of ongts a pair of tongs

Hint:a third class lever where the effort is in between the load
and the fulcrum
c. c. crumful
Hint:the point of support of the lever fulcrum

d. d. fortef
Hint: the point of force in a lever

d) Mark the odd one out.

axle load effort fulcrum axe

e ) Label 1, 2 and 3 in the following diagram.

1 = load, 2 = fulcrum and 3 = effort

f) State the two conditions by which we can say that simple

machines make our work easier?
If you want to pick a up a rock you can use a crowbar 1 st class
lever

g) Define machines a piece of equipment with moving parts that

is designed to do a particular job. A machine usually needs
electricity, gas, steam, etc. in order to work

h) Distinguish between simple machine and complex machines

simple machine is simpler to make and does simple work,
complex machines use more 2 simple machines and do complex
work

i ) What is elastic force?Elasticity is the ability of a material to

return to its original shape after being stretched or compressed.
When an elastic material is stretched or compressed, it exerts
elastic force. This force increases the more the material is
stretched or compressed

j ) What is mechanical force? A mechanical force can be defined

as a force that features some direct contact between two
objects (one applying the force and another which is in a state
of rest or in a state of motion) and results in the production of a
change in the state of the object (state of rest or state of
motion).
k) What is magnetic force?

Magnetic force, attraction or repulsion that arises between

electrically charged particles because of their motion. It is the
basic force responsible for such effects as the action of electric
motors and the attraction of magnets for iron. ... The magnetic
force influences only those charges that are already in motion.

l) What is muscular force?

Muscular force: Force which is exerted by muscles of the body is
called Muscular force. All our body activities like lifting, walking,
running, bending are because of muscular force. It is a contact
force because muscular force can only be exerted on physical
contact. Examples: Walking, running, jumping etc.

m) State the applications of force of friction.Friction finds

application when matchsticks are ignited. Motion of pistons in a
cylinder is an application of friction. It is possible to write on
books and board as there is friction between pen and the board

n) What is force of friction?

Give Feedback External Websites. Friction, force that resists the
sliding or rolling of one solid object over another. Frictional
forces, such as the traction needed to walk without slipping,
may be beneficial, but they also present a great measure of
opposition to motion.

o) Define gravity. gravity, also called gravitation, in mechanics,

the universal force of attraction acting between all matter. ... On
Earth all bodies have a weight, or downward force of gravity,
proportional to their mass, which Earth's mass exerts on them.
Gravity is measured by the acceleration that it gives to freely
falling objects.

p) Define force
A force is a push or pull upon an object resulting from the
object's interaction with another object. Whenever there is an
interaction between two objects, there is a force upon each of
the objects. When the interaction ceases, the two objects no
longer experience the force.
q) Which one of the given activities is not considered work?

1 st pic is not work

r) Describe a few necessary conditions require for work to be

done. Force applied x Distance covered, if any of these don’t
happen work is not considered to be done
s) According to science, why are the activities like reading,
sleeping and thinking not considered work? because force is
applied but there is no distance of it being applied

t) What is elastic force?

u) Do you think a boy who is sitting on his dining table and

eating breakfast is doing any work?
No he is not doing anywork

v ) How is frictional force important for the motion of an object?

Friction, force that resists the sliding or rolling of one solid object
over another. Frictional forces, such as the traction needed to
walk without slipping, may be beneficial, but they also present a
great measure of opposition to motion
