26088lab Report

The laboratory investigation report for Mr. Deepak Kumar Agarwal, a 65-year-old male, includes a lipid profile analysis with total cholesterol at 117 mg/dL, HDL cholesterol at 36 mg/dL (low), and triglycerides at 78 mg/dL. Key findings indicate low HDL levels and a high TG/HDL ratio of 2.2, which may increase the risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Recommendations for further testing and treatment goals are provided based on the National Cholesterol Education Program guidelines.

Interpretations_ _ _ :
1. All above biological reference intervals/ranges are in accordance to the recommendations of The National Cholesterol Education
Program(NCEP) Adult Treatment Panel III (ATP III) Guidelines providing the most desirable targets of various circulating lipid fractions in the
blood. Lipid level assessments must be made following 9 to 12 hours of fasting, otherwise assay results might lead to erroneous
interpretation. NCEP recommends the assessment of 3 different samples drawn at intervals of 1 week for harmonizing biological variables
that might be encountered in single assays.
2. Low HDL levels are associated with increased risk forAtherosclerotic Cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) due to insufficient HDL being
available to participate in reverse cholesterol transport, the process by which cholesterol is eliminated from peripheral tissues.
3. NLA-2014identifies Non HDL Cholesterol (an indicator of all atherogeniclipoproteins such as LDL , VLDL, IDL, Lpa, Chylomicron
remnants)along with LDL-cholesterol as co- primary target for cholesterol lowering therapy. Note that major risk factors can modify
treatment goals for LDL &Non HDL.
4. Apolipoprotein B is an optional, secondary lipid target for treatment once LDL & Non HDL goals have been achieved.
5. Additional testing for Apolipoprotein B, hsCRP,Lp(a ) & LP-PLA2 should be considered among patients with moderate risk for ASCVD for
risk refinement.
Fried Ewald Equation is not applicable for calculation of LDL & VLDL. Hence the calculated values are not provided for such samples.
