Basic Computer Skills – Training Note
1. Computer Hardware, Peripherals & Startup
Basic components: CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, storage devices.
Peripheral devices: Input (keyboard, mouse, scanner), Output (monitor, printer),
Storage (flash drive, external HDD).
Connect monitor, keyboard, mouse, power supply.
Turn on power switch, monitor system boot process.
Identify BIOS/booting and loading operating system.
2. Ergonomics and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS)
Personal safety: Maintain posture, avoid eye strain, take regular breaks.
Lab safety: Keep workspace clean, avoid food/drinks near equipment.
Fire safety: Know extinguisher location, unplug unused devices.
Electrical safety: Avoid damaged cords, do not overload sockets.
Equipment safety: Use dust covers, turn off properly, avoid overheating.
3. Navigating and Understanding Your Computer
Icons, taskbar, start menu, file explorer.
Launching programs and accessing system tools.
Check system specs: processor, RAM, OS version.
Input ➝ Process ➝ Output model of computer operation.
4. Operating System and Basic Software Use
Logging in, switching users, shutting down.
Navigating File Explorer.
Create folders and subfolders.
Save and organize files in logical structure.
Install and uninstall software via Control Panel.
5. Keyboarding & Mouse Skills
Home row keys: ASDF JKL; for touch typing.
Use shift, spacebar, enter, backspace efficiently.
Single-click, double-click, right-click, drag-and-drop.
Scroll using mouse wheel.
6. Microsoft Windows 10 Fundamentals
Use Start Menu to access programs.
Use Task View for multiple windows.
Customize desktop, pin apps to taskbar.
7. Microsoft Word – Word Processing
Launch Word ➝ Create/Open document.
Type text, numbers, dates.
Format text (font, size, color, bold, italic).
Create lists (bullets/numbering).
Insert tables, images, shapes.
Use Spelling & Grammar check.
Save, print, and close documents.
8. Microsoft Excel – Spreadsheets
Workbook contains sheets (tabs).
Cells hold text, numbers, dates.
Enter data and use formulas: =SUM(...), =AVERAGE(...), etc.
Format cells: borders, font size, background color.
Save and print worksheets.
9. Internet and Email
Use browsers like Chrome, Edge.
Search using Google, Bing.
Download files (PDF, images, software).
Create Gmail/Yahoo account.
Send, receive, reply, and forward emails.
Attach documents and images.
Organize inbox, identify spam, use collaboration tools like Google Docs.
