Checking of attendance
Reviewing of the past lesson
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
‘’ Good morning class…’’ Good morning, ma’am.
Before we begin, may I request everyone to
stand for a prayer. “Lord our God, Father of light, with your
assistance we will study patiently and
perform our duties conscientiously. For your
greater honor and glory, grant us a bright
intellect a sound judgement and retentive
memory. Amen”
You may now take your seat.
Who is absent today? Boys? Girls? (Students respond accordingly)
Before we proceed with our lesson, let’s have
a recap of our previous topic.
Who can recall the meaning of statistics?
Statistics is a branch of mathematics that
involves collecting, organizing, presenting,
analyzing, and interpreting data to help us
make informed decisions.
Very good. How about data? Data refers to information such as facts and
numbers used to analyze something or to
make decision.
Excellent . Who can give an example of
quantitative data? (General average, number of children,
weight, annual income)
Great. Now,who can give an example of (civil status, educational attainment, age, skin
qualitative data? color)
Brilliant. All of your answers are correct.
Do you have any questions about our None ma’am.
previous lesson?
If there’s none, lets proceed with a math
game.
B. Motivation
This game was called “Human Number Line –
Find the Mean”. The class will be divided into
4 groups with 8 members.
Mechanics:
1. The class will be divided into 4 groups with
8 members each.
2. Each participant will receive a number.
3. Members will line in ascending order to
form a physical number line.
4. Add all the numbers and divide the sum, by
the number of partipants to find the mean.
5. identify the mean by pointing to its
position on the line.
6. Each group has 3 minutes .The first group
to finish with the correct answer wins.
Is the mechanics clear class? Yes ma’am.
Okay let’s start the game.
Data set : 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16
Mean: 2+4+6+8+10+12+14+16
72 dividedy by 8 = 9
After the game:
Okay and the winner is grouped____.
Congratulations. Let us give them a round of
applause and say congratulations...
Okay class you may now go back to your
seats. How was the game class? It was fun ma’am.
What values did you develop during the
activity? Collaboration ma’am.
Alright. What else? Teamwork ma’am.
Very good, class our game this morning was
related to our topic this morning.
C. Lesson Proper
Our lesson for today is about Measuring
Central Tendency for Ungrouped Data,
focusing on the mean.
But before that, here are the learning
objectives of our lesson.
Everyone please read.
At the end of the lesson, the students will be
able to:
a. Define the measures of central tendency
for ungrouped data
b. Define mean as the central tendency
b. Use formula to solve the mean for
ungrouped data
c. Develop cooperation during grouped
activity
Alright.
For your better understanding let us define
first if what is meant by Central Tendency for
Measures of Central Tendency
Ungrouped Data.
Are a single value that
attempts to describe a set
of data by identifying the
central position within the
Other term for this is: central location, data set.
typical value and center.
Now there are three measures of central
tendency. But now, we will focus in the
mean.
What is mean?
Mean is the sum of the data values divided
The mean is also known as average. by the number of values.
In finding the mean of ungrouped data, we
use the formula:
Mean= Sum of Data
Number of Data Points
For your better understanding, let’s have first
an example.
Example 1.
Data Set: 4 , 5 ,9 , 10 , 12
4+ 5+9+10+12
Mean =
5
40
=
5
=8
Example 2.
Math Quarterly Grades: 88, 90, 92,91
88+90+ 92+ 91
Mean =
4
361
=
4
= 90.25
Example 3.
Data set : 5,10,15,20
Find the mean using the formula
Mean= Sum of Data
Number of Data Points (A student volunteers to answer)
Who would like to solve this on the board? Mean= Sum of Data
Number of Data Points
5+10+15+20
Mean =
4
50
=
4
= 20.5
Is the answer of your classmate correct? Yes ma’am.
Now ,let’s apply the concept of mean in real-
life scenarios.
D. APPLICATION
Example 1:
The shoes sizes of the members of a
basketball team are: 7,9; 11, 8,8,8,7,8,9,10,8.
Compute for the mean of central tendency.
We have,
Mean =
7+9+11+8+8+ 8+7+8+ 9+10+8
11
93
=
11
= 8.4545… or 8.45
Example 2:
The scores in a 10-item Math quiz of 12 (Student volunteer to answer)
students in Grade 8 class are: 6, 8, 9, 7, 6, 7,
9, 10, 8,9,7,6. Find the mean. Mean =
Can anyone solve on the board? 6+8+ 9+7+6+ 7+9+10+ 8+9+7+ 6
12
6+6+ 6+7+7+ 7+8+8+ 9+9+10
=
12
92
=
12
Lets check you work.
Is it correct?
Yes ma’am.
Very good.
It seems that you already understand our
topic about measuring central tendency for
ungrouped data. Let us generalized our
discusion.
E. GENERALIZATION
To summarize our lesson for today, who can
define central tendency ? A single value that attempts to
describe a set of data by
identifying the central position
Alright. What about the mean ? within the data set.
It’s the average of the data values
Nice answer.
Do you have any questions class?
No ma’am.
Since there’s none, get 1/2 sheet of paper
and answer the following problems.
IV. EVALUATION
