4. The mean weight of five complete computer stations is 167.2 pounds. The weights of four of the
computer stations are 158.4 pounds, 162.8 pounds, 165 pounds, and 178.2 pounds respectively. What
is the weight of the fifth computer station?
5. The mean of four numbers is 71.5. If three of the numbers are 58, 76, and 88, what is the value of the
fourth number?
6. A student obtained 40, 50, 60, 80, and 45 marks in the subjects of Math, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry
and Biology respectively. Assuming weights 5, 2, 4, 3, and 1 respectively for the above
mentioned subjects, find weighted arithmetic mean per subject.
7. Find the weighted mean.
Source Score Weight
HW 72 15%
Quiz 80 25%
Test 94 40%
Lab 0 15%
Attendance 55 5%
8. The following table shows the marks of a student on each assessment from a math class. Determine the
student final mark.
Type of assessment Marks obtained Weight
Assess 1 98 25
Assess 2 100 25
Assess 3 85 25
Assess 4 95 25
9. The table below shows Maddie’s marks on her end of term tests. What was Maddie’s mean mark?
10. The line graph below shows the price of tea over a 5 year period.
(a) In what year did tea first average more than 90 cents per pound?
(b) List the years in order from least expensive to most expensive.
(c) Which two years showed the greatest increase in tea prices?
(d) Which pairs of years showed tea prices rise by the same amount that tea prices fell?
11. The following chart shows how a family spends its yearly income of $31,000.
(a) How much money does this family spend on transportation?
(b) How much will the family spend on food and clothing together?
12. The pie chart shows the day of a college student.
(a) What is the least number of hours spent on an activity?
(b) Which activity is the greatest number of hours spent on?
(c) What activity do we have the same number of hours spent on?
13. The table below shows the favourite pet of a number of students in a survey
Pet Number of students
Dog 14
Cat 9
Bird 6
Fish 4
Rabbit 3
(a) Copy the table and add a column to show the number of degrees in a pie chart (circle graph) for
each major.
(b) Draw a pie chart of radius 4 cm to represent the information given in the table.
14. Emma measured her plant’s growth for five weeks. Draw a line graph using the data.
Week Height (cm)
1 2
2 5
3 8
4 11
5 14
(a) How tall was the plant in week 2?
(b) How much had the plant grown from week 1 to week 2?
(c) How much had the plant grown from week 2 to week 4?
(d) How much had the plant grown from week 1 to week 5?
(e) On week 6, do you think the plant would be around 21 cm or 17 cm?
15. The line graph shows Jane’s savings in five months.
(a) How much did she save on January?
(b) In which month was the smallest amount of money saved?
(c) In which month did she save $28?
(d) How much less did she save on May than April?
(e) What is the difference in amount between her highest and lowest savings?
Answer key
1. (a) Mean = 42.57 Median = 39 Mode = 39
(b) Mean = 69 Median = 71 Mode = 90
(c) Mean = 11 Median = 11 Mode = 11
2. 62.73
3. 69
4. Sum of all weights = 167.2 × 5 = 836
158.4 + 162.8 + 165 + 178.2 = 664.4
Weight of the fifth computer station = 836 − 664.4 = 171.6
5. 64 pounds
6. Marks Obtained Weight
