Read the passage below and then answer questions 1 to 6.

Water is essential for all living things. It covers about 71% of the Earth's surface, making our planet look blue from
space. Most of this water is saltwater found in oceans and seas, which is not suitable for drinking or watering crops.
Only a small percentage is fresh water, found in rivers, lakes, glaciers, and underground. This precious freshwater is
what we rely on for our daily needs.

However, freshwater resources are limited and are becoming increasingly scarce due to various factors. Pollution
from industries, agriculture, and domestic waste contaminates rivers and lakes, making the water unsafe.
Overpopulation and increasing demand for water in homes, farms, and factories also put a strain on available
supplies. Climate change is another major concern, as it alters rainfall patterns, leading to more frequent droughts in
some areas and floods in others.

Conserving water is crucial for a sustainable future. Simple actions like fixing leaky taps, taking shorter showers,
and reusing water for gardening can make a big difference. Communities and governments also have a role to play
by investing in water treatment plants, promoting efficient irrigation methods, and educating people about water
conservation. By working together, we can ensure that there is enough clean water for everyone, now and for
generations to come.

Read th e passage below and then answer questions 7 to 11.

The African baobab tree is one of the most iconic and ancient trees on Earth, often called the "Tree of Life." It is
native to the drier regions of Africa, including Kenya, and can live for thousands of years, with some specimens
estimated to be over 2,000 years old. Baobabs are easily recognizable by their massive, swollen trunks, which can
store thousands of litres of water during dry seasons, allowing them to survive in harsh environments. This water
storage capacity is why they are so vital to wildlife and people in arid areas.

Beyond their unique appearance, baobab trees provide numerous benefits. Their leaves are edible and rich in
vitamins, often used in soups and sauces. The fruit, known as "monkey bread," is packed with Vitamin C,
antioxidants, and minerals, and is consumed fresh or used to make drinks and powders. Even the bark and roots
have traditional medicinal uses. Additionally, the hollow trunks of older baobabs sometimes serve as shelters for
animals or even as human dwellings, shops, or bus stops!

Read the passage below and then answer questions 12 to 16.

Learning a new skill, like playing a musical instrument or coding, can be a rewarding experience that offers
numerous benefits beyond the skill itself. When you start something new, you often face challenges and setbacks.
For instance, learning the guitar might involve sore fingers and frustrating chords, while coding could mean hours
of debugging errors. These moments, however, are opportunities for growth.

Overcoming these difficulties builds perseverance and problem-solving skills. You learn to break down complex
tasks into smaller, manageable steps and to approach problems from different angles. The patience developed
during practice sessions can extend to other areas of your life, making you more resilient when facing academic or
personal hurdles. Additionally, the satisfaction of finally mastering a difficult piece of music or successfully writing
a complex program provides a significant boost to self-confidence.

Moreover, acquiring new skills often opens doors to new communities and experiences. A guitarist might join a
band, while a coder might collaborate on projects with others. These interactions foster social skills and networking
opportunities. Ultimately, the process of learning, with its ups and downs, teaches you more about yourself and your
capabilities than just the skill itself. It's about developing a growth mindset – the belief that your abilities can be
developed through dedication and hard work.

12. What is the main idea of the passage?

A. Learning new skills is always easy and fun.
B. Only musical instruments are important to learn.
C. The process of learning new skills develops important life qualities.
D. Coding is the most difficult skill to acquire.

TASK 2: ORAL LITERATURE

Read the story below and then answer the questions that follow.

The Hare and the Tortoise

In a small village nestled by a flowing river, lived a boastful Hare and a patient Tortoise. The Hare was known for

his speed, often mocking other animals for their slowness. The Tortoise, on the other hand, was humble and

steady, always taking his time.

One sunny morning, the Hare, feeling particularly proud, challenged the Tortoise to a race. "You, slowpoke! Let's

see who reaches the big baobab tree first!" he scoffed, laughing loudly. The Tortoise, without a word, accepted the

challenge.

All the animals gathered to watch. The monkey was the starter. "On your marks, get set, GO!" he cried. The Hare

shot off like an arrow, disappearing almost instantly. The Tortoise began his slow, steady journey.

After running far ahead, the Hare looked back and saw no sign of the Tortoise. "He's so slow! I have plenty of

time for a nap," he thought, and lay down under a cool bush, quickly falling asleep.

Meanwhile, the Tortoise continued, step by laborious step, never stopping, never resting. The sun climbed higher,

and the Hare snored softly. When the Hare finally woke up, startled by the setting sun, he stretched and realized

how much time had passed. He sprinted towards the baobab tree, but to his utter shock, he saw the Tortoise just a

few steps from the finish line. With a final, determined push, the Tortoise crossed the line, winning the race. The

Hare stood breathless, red-faced with shame.

"Slow and steady wins the race," whispered a young squirrel in the crowd.

School's Morning Call

By A. Learners

The cool morning air, a soft, waking touch,

Quiet minds stirring, wanting so much.

A sweet chime then sounds, so clear and so true,

The school bell is ringing, for me and for you.

Through busy hallways, a lively, bright sound,

Where learning's old magic is always found.

Each class now begins, as teachers all guide,

And moments of wisdom drift gently inside.

From old history's pages to numbers so grand,

With sharp pencils ready, and books close at hand.

Every lesson taken, a step we can trust,

Towards knowledge that's new, and forever will last.

For each child, a journey, a challenge to face,

To give their young minds a truly good race.

The school bell keeps calling, a hopeful, clear sign,

For futures that sparkle, and truly are fine.

SEHEMU A: UFAHAMU WA KUSOMA

Soma kifungu kifuatacho kisha ujibu maswali ya 1 hadi 6:

Mchezo wa soka umenifunza mambo mengi. Mashabiki ndio wachezaji bora zaidi. Wao hawakosei kutunga bao wala
kukosa penalti.
"Asipewe nambari tena." Wajua tena kandanda!

Kupitia kandanda tunaweza kujifunza mengi muhimu maishani. Hebu
fikiria, mashabiki hupiga yowe hata timu ikishinda kombe!
mwingine bora kuletwa uwanjani.

Watoto wetu leo hawawezi kutembea peke yao magharibi yanapoingia. Je, hatuwajui watu wanaohatarisha maisha ya
wana wetu?

1. Kulingana na kifungu, ni kweli kuwa:

A. Kandanda ndio mchezo maarufu zaidi ulimwenguni.

A. Asiyehusishwa kutekeleza jambo huona udhaifu wa watekelezao.
B. Mashabiki huona makosa ya wachezaji ilhali wachezaji hawayaoni.
C. Wachezaji wachezao uwanjani hawana tajriba ya soka.
D. Mashabiki wanapaswa kuingizwa uwanjani wacheze.
D. Mashabiki walio wafalme huwatimua makocha.

maneno waliyokuwa wakiyasubiri watoto wake yalianza kumtoka.

"Nilizaliwa maskini, nafa maskini. Lakini sitaki nyinyi mrithi umaskini. Sina rasilimali za kuwaachia isipokuwa elimu

maneno hayo hayo.
