1.0 Purpose and Scope

 The scope of this Method Statement covers all the Masonry Works for all
buildings.
 The purpose of this Method Statement is to describe the material used, work
procedures and methods of inspection to all Masonry works.
2.0 REFERENCE
 Local Code for Building and Standards.
 Specs. Section (042000) for Masonry works
 The American Standard Specification (ASTM).
 Approved S.D and material submittals.

3.0 PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

A full and detailed description of the roles and responsibilities of all Concrete Plus staff is included
within the Project Quality Plan. For the works as covered by this method statement, the following
personnel have specific duties.

3.1 Technical office Engineer specific responsibility include:


 Responsible for ensuring that the various submittals are timely undertaken
(materials, method statements, workshop drawings, subcontractors’ issues,
technical issues)
 Responsible for quotations as required (materials, subcontractors).
 Responsible for ensuring RFI’s are timely undertaken on behalf of Concrete Plus.
 Responsible for the distribution of documents within Concrete Plus site personnel.

3.2 HSE Site reprehensive specific responsibility include:


 Assisting in the production of any health, safety and environmental documents.
 Monitoring the implementation of health, safety and environmental requirements.
 Undertaking audits and ensuring that corrective and preventive actions are
taken where required.
 Liaison with the senior site staff on health, safety and environmental related matters.

3.3 Site Engineer specific responsibility include:
 Ensuring that the project is managed in a safe manner and meets the requirements of
the project documentation.
 Ensuring that subcontractors and suppliers achieve the on-site required standards.
 Shall refer to the QA/QC Department and the HSE Department for advice and
guidance when required.
 Shall ensure that operatives comply with the relevant method statements,
Toolbox Talks and general site briefings.

3.4 QA/QC Site representative(s) specific responsibility include:


 Carrying out phased inspections as required.
 Preparation of the ITP.

 Ensuring that all required tests are performed and are in compliance with
appropriate specifications.
 Maintaining a record of all QA/QC activities on site.
 Controlling and ensuring all measuring and test equipment on site is
properly calibrated.
 Controlling all non-conforming products or workmanship, and implementing
the required preventive actions.
 Ensuring that corrective and preventive actions are taken when required.
 Ensuring that the required testing is undertaken by approved
independent laboratories, and that all test results are reviewed.

3.5 Supervisor (s) specified responsibilities include


 To ensure that all operatives and appropriate subcontractors have been briefed as
to the content of the method statement and the works.
 To adequately control the works as required.
 To ensure the works are undertaken in a safe manner.
 To ensure all operatives are adequately training in their respective works.
 Reporting any un-safe practices on site to the Concrete Plus site team.

4.0 EXECUTION PROCEDURE


Mockups:
Before installing unit masonry, mockups to be built to verify selections made
under sample Submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects and qualities
of materials and execution. Mockups to comply with the Specs.
 Mockup 1200*1800 mm to be submitted for approval

Setting Plan: -

 Checkline to be applied for first coarse


 Lay out walls in advance for accurate spacing of surface bond patterns with
uniform.

Mortar and Grout Mixes: -
 Mortar for Unit Masonry: Cement-sand, lime-free mortar mix shall be 1:3-4 as
per specs 2.7.3, by volume mechanically mixing with a potable water,
Compressive strength shall be 5±1 N/mm2.
 Ingredients will be measured by gauge boxes.

Installation: -
 Avoid using less-than-half-size units, particularly at corners jambs.
 Full mortar bed to be spread well with the trowel ensuring plenty of mortar
under the bottom edges of the first course.
 Installing first course taking into consideration location of openings and
intersections.
 Anchor masonry to structural members with anchors embedded in masonry
joints and attached to structure.BY Screw Gun
 Approved Metal anchors shall be installed vertically every 3 layers. (60 cm Each)
 Approved Galvanized mesh shall be installed every 3 layers. (60 cm Each)
 Other accessories if any to be installed as per approved submittal.
 During construction all embedded conduits or plumping pipes to be installed,
also all electrical boxes will be saw cut in place after building the wall.
 Layup walls to comply with the specified construction tolerances.
 Lintels as per approved will be installed as per approved S.D details.
 fire rated interior walls and partitions to be built full height to underside of solid
floor or structure above and provide an UL-tested system for filling joint between
the head of masonry wall and the underside of the Structure above. System is to be
rated for same fire rating as indicated for the masonry assembly (wall or partition)
and shall include filler and sealant joint for joint filling at both faces of the
assembly.
 For fire rated Compressible filler and joint silicon fire rated as per approved
to be installed as per fire rated zones indicated in Drawings.

 The masonry should be kept moist for a period of 3 days to ensure proper curing.
This can be done by regularly spraying the surface with water.
Construction Tolerances: ( paragraph 3.3)

 For conspicuous vertical lines, such as external corners, door jambs, reveals,
and expansion and control joints, do not vary from plumb by more than 6
mm in 6 m, nor 12 mm maximum.
 For vertical alignment of exposed head joints, do not vary from plumb by
more than 6 mm in 3 m, nor 12 mm maximum.
 For conspicuous horizontal lines, such as exposed lintels, sills, parapets, and
reveals, do not vary from level by more than 6 mm in 6 m, nor 12 mm
maximum.
 For exposed bed joints, do not vary from thickness indicated by more than
plus or minus 3 mm, with a maximum thickness limited to 12 mm. Do not
vary from bed- joint thickness of adjacent courses by more than 3 mm.
 For exposed head joints, do not vary from thickness indicated by more than plus or
minus 3 mm. Do not vary from adjacent bed-joint and head-joint thickness by
more
than 3 mm.

6.0 QUALITY CONTROL

Quality control staff will ensure performing all work in accordance with Project
technical Specifications and General Quality Control Plan as follow:
● Each activity should be performed by the assigned employee within the organization chart.
● All materials and equipment used in the activities should be approved, inspected and
tested prior to usage.
● Work procedure should follow this method statement and preparatory technical meeting.
● All activities steps should follow ITP1.

7.0 SAFETY

7.1 Safety requirements will be addressed in accordance with the Project General Safety
Plan and contract.
7.2 Ensure that sides of excavation will be protected and soil stability of the surrounding
areas will be secured.
7.3 Barricade the excavation area with warning tapes and install Safety signs and notices to
create Safe Working area.
7.4 Tools and equipment will be inspected periodically by the Contractor to ensure that
remain in proper working order and calibration certifications is current.
7.5 During night works, a suitably trained supervisor will be on site for the full night
duration and adequate lighting shall be provided.
