Instructional Plan (iPlan)
Subject: Science
Grade Level: 8
Quarter: 1
Week: 4
Day: 3
Learning Competency:
S8LT-Ig-h-24 – Describe the process of photosynthesis and identify the raw materials,
stages, and products involved.
Unpacked Competency:
Label and explain the stages of photosynthesis, including light-dependent reactions and the
Calvin cycle, and identify the products of each stage.
Learning Objectives:
Cognitive:
1. Identify and describe the two sequential stages of photosynthesis.
2. Explain the products formed during light-dependent reactions and the Calvin cycle.
3. Interpret diagrams and chemical equations related to photosynthesis.
Psychomotor:
- Label diagrams showing the stages and products of photosynthesis accurately.
Attitude:
- Show appreciation for the process of photosynthesis as essential to life.
Values:
- Value the role of plants in producing food and oxygen for all living things.
Content:
Photosynthesis – Stages, products, and overall chemical equation. Diagram labeling activity
and video presentations.
Learning Resources:
• Diagram of photosynthesis process (with stages and byproducts)
• Presence of Starch in a Leaf worksheet
• BTB solution for pH demonstration
• DepEd Science 8 Learner’s Module
• Videos:
1. How Photosynthesis takes place in plants & Process of Photosynthesis

2. Nature's smallest factory: The Calvin cycle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?

Procedures
Lesson Activity: Deciphering the Green Mystery – The Magic of Photosynthesis
1. Present the diagram of the photosynthesis process and instruct students to label the
stages and identify the byproducts of each.
2. Remind students of BTB color changes: Blue at pH 7.6 (basic), Yellow at pH 6.0 (acidic),
and Neutral at pH 7.
3. Guide Questions:
- What are the two sequential stages of photosynthesis?
- What are the end products of light-dependent reactions?
- What are the end products of the Calvin cycle?
4. Show the simplified chemical equation for photosynthesis:
6CO₂ + 6H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂ (with sunlight)
5. Discuss how light-dependent reactions produce ATP and NADPH, which are then used in
the Calvin cycle to produce sugar.
6. Present videos for deeper understanding (see resource links above).
Making Generalizations
1. Learners fill in a concept map summarizing their takeaways from the lesson.
2. Reflection on Learning: Students write a 3–4 sentence journal entry in their notebook
answering any of the following:
a. What did I learn about this lesson that I did not know before?
b. Which topic was easy for me?
c. Which topic was challenging to learn?
d. Do I understand it now?
3. Teacher may propose other reflective activities to encourage metacognition.
Assessment:
• Correctly labeled diagrams of photosynthesis stages
• Completed concept map
• Journal reflection entries
• Participation in class discussion and video analysis
Assignment/Homework:
Create a poster illustrating the two stages of photosynthesis, including inputs, processes,
and products.
Wrap-up/Concluding Activity (5 minutes):
Students share one new fact they learned today about photosynthesis with a partner.
V. Remarks
(To be filled after lesson: continuation, suspension, etc.)
VI. Reflections
(To be answered after lesson: learner performance, time management, strategies, materials,
etc.)
